My husband and I stood at the ElConquistador in April. The private island is not private! Boats pull up to the beach and dock there and anyone can use the beach. There was a private party one night and the pool was closed to the guests of the hotel. Citigroup took over the pool and paying hotel guests were told to leave the pool. Forget about trying to get a drink at the poolside bar. You are ignored! You are treated as a nuisance rather than a guest of the hotel. We were pelted by plastic Easter eggs from hotel guests (brats) and when we called the front desk to tell them about it they said they had not been aware of this situation. I suggested that they go outside and look at the eggs on the ground and maybe try to send Security to look for the little darlings throwing the eggs. That was impossible was the answer I got. The food was overpriced. The guests of the hotel were all on ego trips and full of themselves. They should have paid as much attention to their little brats running around the hotel throwing plastic eggs at people and running around in circles at the bar as they did to primping and posing for eachother! It was an out of control day care center for over indulged adults who really have no clue as to what a nice vacation or hotel is. |

My husband and I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. We had a different room each night. The rooms at the front are slightly more, but you get a bigger room, bed and a balcony. The interior is eclectic, with lots of old fun furniture. Ponce is a great place to spend some time. Try the Classic Delights bakery for breakfast. It's on calle Marina and Comercio, just off the plaza. Coffee and pastry are the best. Only complaint of the hotel, no water pressure in shower. |

Our stay at the InterContinental Resort in San Juan, PR, was wonderful. The grounds were beautiful as well as the pool area. The rooms were large and comfortable and well maintained. Don't forget to eat at Ruth Chris Steakhouse. The casino was fun too. |

Our family of five stayed at this resort. The resort was clean, and the pool was large and impressive.
However, the beach was not impressive. The ocean floor was mainly seaweed and rock. We drove to Old San Juan to experience nicer water and a larger beach. No one could direct us to a 'beautiful' beach, though. We also tried the public beach five minutes away. It was nothing but a waste of time, though. |

I stayed in the King suite. It must have been the oldest room in the hotel. It looked like Grandma's furniture was moved into it.
It had a kitchen, and a few plates. However, there were no utensils.
Don't waste your time and money here. They charge you for parking, Internet service, and use of the safe. I suggest you spend a little extra, and stay at a casino hotel. That's the way to go! |

My husband and I spent our last two days in Puerto Rico (out of seven) at the Luquillo Beach Sunrise Inn. We found such amazing hospitality at this hidden away inn on the beach!
They offered excellent restaurant referrals and perfect directions for the Bio Bay and catamaran ride in Fajardo. We had an easy time finding our way around in the rental car because their directions were so accurate!
Also, we cannot say enough about the wonderful morning breakfast they offered! We would recommend this inn to singles, couples, families and elderly people. Thanks for making us feel welcome! |

I highly recommend this place. Luquillo is probably in the list of top three beaches on the island.
At Luquillo Sunrise Inn, they have a warm friendly atmosphere, too. Marsha and Gary are great hosts.
The rooms are very clean, and the staff is very open and conversive.
El Junque rainforst is minutes away (inside- La Mina falls is a refreshing and exhilarating experience). This is one of many trails within the forest.
The overall feel is native island one. I have been to San Juan four times before - I love El Morro and Old San Juan. However, when you're ready for a different kind of experience, try this. I return to work rejuvenated and refreshed. |

My husband and I had a good experience at the Belgica Hotel. We were here for one night from May 22-23.
We arrived almost 10 pm to check in, and the lady at the front desk was very nice. She was not able to direct us properly to the hotel when we called earlier to ask for directions. However, she turned out to be so apologetic and sincere, that we did not even think of the inconvenience we had driving to the hotel.
The facilities were excellent, as well. We had a balcony, and had a good view of the street and the quaint buildings. The bed, the sheets, the sink, the toilet, the TV - the whole room was beautiful. I loved the preserved windows and trimmings of the room. They even had breakfast in the morning.
The personnel was polite, and the hotel was very clean. It was very nice!

This was my third visit to Puerto Rico. My girlfriend is from the island, and her parents live here. I have the advantage of learning about the resort through relatives, and it was the best we have had.
We left the resort (via rental car) for food and refreshments, but enjoyed the entertainment several nights at the resort. To experience Puerto Rico, you have to visit numerous places on the island. It is only through this experience that you will truly come to enjoy Puerto Rico as I have - nightlife in San Juan, shopping at the market, eating at small (but very good) mom and pop restaurants, visiting the rain forest, the casinos, clubs, and excellent beaches. These are only a few of the things you will come to enjoy.
Whether you have small children, are honeymooning or visit by yourself, this is one of many places to enjoy - and it is truly excellent. |

This is the best site for destination wedding, with the best view on the island.
It is under new ownership, and has been under renovation. They have two pools, and a restaurant. All the rooms are ocean front, with the sound of the waves, and great views.
They also provide good service and a clean room. |

This bed and breakfast is a wonderful find, and a great respite from greater San Juan.
If you're looking for a little peace and quiet, with not too many "frills" within 30 minutes of the airport, try Luquillo Sunrise. The rates are reasonable, and the staff is super friendly. |

This is our favorite inn. It is pure Puerto Rican. It gives one a chance to get away from the e-mail, television and hectic pace.
You have all the amenities you need: clean beds and shower, refrig. and cooking utensils, and air conditioning. You can walk to open air restaurants, and enjoy a stroll around town.
The locals do not want cruise ships, chain restaurants, or high rise hotels. I hope they keep it that way. It's easy to catch a van to the beach at the front door. |

This place was absolutely what I wanted. It was not the Ritz, nor was it the "try-and-save-a-buck" inn.
The people at this place bent over backwards to insure that my interests and stay met my expectations. I told them what I wanted, and they made sure I knew every option available.
It was a boutique guest-house, slightly off the beaten path. Unless you rent a car, you have to travel by taxi, so bring your wallet, and make sure you know the address. But that goes for wherever you stay here.
Our friends stayed at the Ritz. All they ended up doing was spending more money. Oceana Hostal Playero was like the "hole-in-the-wall" bar you like to go to when you just want to sit back and not have to deal with pretentious people and (just plain stupidity). |

Coqui Inn, San Juan traveler review
This was a traveler's nightmare! Visited: February 2008 |

We arrived at 11:00 pm, and they made us wait 45 minutes to check in because they were counting their till! Check-in took 30 minutes because they kept interrupting the process to sell candy and pop.
After 12:00 am, when we finally went to our rooms, I discovered within minutes there was no running water! The toilet had flushed once, but the tank had not refilled: it was unusable. When I went to tell them, there were other guests complaining of no water all day! The entire hotel was without running water, so we could not be moved.
By 1:00 am, I had secured two rooms elsewhere. I told them we could not stay at The Coqui because of the situation, and I requested that they issue a refund. After refusing a few times, the clerk said I needed to fill out a form and call the manager on the next day.
Then, she gave me a form stating ” I am knowingly canceling my reservation without sufficient notice and agree to pay all charges”. I refused to sign it, and demanded the correct form. I filled out the correct form, and spoke with the manager the next day. He was apologetic. He agreed to credit my card for the full amount of $204.92, but said it might take a few days “to go through”.
A week later, I called my bank and I discovered that instead of crediting my account for $204.92, they had charged me $204.92 for a second day! I'm still trying to dispute the charges with my credit card company!
This place was horrible! They were rude to us, and they were incompetent and dishonest. |

Dont Stay Here! Visited: April 2008 |

Do not come here! Condo’s need a major reconstruction, we where unable to sleep in the condo because the AC unit was too loud! Even worse you could not sit outside because the exhaust vents out HEAT onto the small balcony. The Rio Mar Realty was no help because the condos are privately owned. Nothing is included, No Bar, No Beach umbrellas, Hot tub was broken, No amenities and don’t forget to bring your own Toilet Paper.
WhereToStay.com comment: Mike, sorry you had a bad experience renting from Rio Mar Realty. If you had rented from WhereToStay.com you would have had a very different experience. The villas we represent, like the one pictured, are impeccably maintained, newly remodeled, and even have a concierge to help you. The villas have a full kitchen and you have full access to the hotel next door and all its amenities. You are correct AC units do produce heat. You might want to turn of the AC units when you are outdoors. This is one of the most popular villas on the site and everyone we send loves it. Many repeat guests. Sorry you had a bad experience. |

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Parador Costa Del Mar for five days, and four nights in late April 2008.
The hotel was very clean and comfortable, and the staff was knowledgable and helpful. The pictures tell no lies. It really was that beautiful - especially if you have one of the rooms facing the ocean.
The morning breakfast was delicious and quite unexpected. It was not the usual continental breakfast, but rather a full menu with varying selections.
The hotel did not have beach access; however, it was within walking distance. A car is necessary for this area, as public transportation really doesn't exist.
My only complaint was that the cable went out intermittently, but that is a problem throughout the island. Plus, who needs cable when you are in Paradise! I loved this place. |
