Timothy Beach Resort is very simple and very nice. Visited: April 2006
Posted by queennbm
I have been wanting to go to St. Kitts for seven years, and I just got back two weeks ago. The Timothy Beach Resort was perfect for me. It was the best location on the island - honestly.

One of the only public beaches was right there, so guests could swim at their leisure without having to make a trip just to get there. The snorkeling right off the rocks on the beach was fantastic.

The staff was excellent - they went above and beyond. It was service like I've never had in the states. Anything we needed - they got it for us. We didn't have to call for anything - rental car, taxis, nothing - they did it all. It was great.

The hotel was simple, but perfect if you want a relaxed vacation with affordable rates. I will be coming back to Timothy Beach! Make sure you eat at the Shiggidy Shack right next to the beach. It had the best food and prices on the island!

Here is a student's perspective of Timothy Beach Resort. Visited: September 2005

We stayed here during a field course to conduct research on various aspects of the island. Although it was not as fancy as the over priced hotels here, it was superior to them in many ways.

First and formost, the staff was unbeatable. They went above and beyond the call of duty regularly for us. The beach was beautiful with great snorkeling. Just don't sit in the white lounge chairs, a guy will try and charge you for it.

The pool was nice, but the ocean was perfect. If you want to go body surfing, the Atlantic Ocean was only a ten-minute walk away. The beach had several places to dine, or relax and drink a Carib beer.

The in-hotel restaurant and bar was also very good, but out of my budget after the first dinner.

If you don't need to pay $400 a night for the Marriott, I highly recommend Timothy Beach Resort for peaceful relaxation, great views and amazing staff.

It was quiet and simple - just right! Visited: June 2005

I recently returned from a six-night visit as part of a group of four couples. We have all traveled together several times to the Caribbean, and all found this trip to be great.

Timothy Beach Resort was certainly not a fancy, plush resort. So, if that is what you are looking for - look elsewhere. What you will get here is a clean, and comfortable place to stay that has the best location on the island.

By staying here, you are on the Caribbean side, which is calm and safe for swimming. There is no way I would stay at the more plush Marriott or the neighboring properties for this reason alone. They are on a very rough stretch of the Atlantic, that is about a 15-minute walk away.

The resort is well maintained, but there certainly are some areas that could use a little refurbishing, as there are some areas that are a little worn. The landscaping and variety of foilage surrounding the premises is very well maintained and beautiful.

Also, by staying here, you can choose among several places to eat that are all fine. These include the hotel restaurant (only had breakfast here - a little pricy but very good), the Shiggidty Shack (lobster, chicken, etc in a rustic, but beachfront atmosphere), and the Monkey Bar (simple, casual outside dining).

If I return to St. Kitts, I will only stay at the Timothy Beach Resort.

Nice Resort Needing Some Updating Visited: April 2005
Posted by billysalus2
As a first time visitor to St. Kitts and Timothy Beach Resort, we found the island to be very laid back & relaxing.

Timothy Beach Resort was nice but needed some updating. We stayed in a first floor suite with a modern full size kitchen. The room was very spacious with a full size kitchen. However this was mostly offset by a very very very small bathroom (smallest I have ever seen in the entire Caribbean!), dark wood trim, loud A/C wall unit, no in-room safe (deposit boxes are available at the front desk but all were being used. We were told we could place our valuables in the resorts general safe that was being used by the hotel and other guests) and not much lighting. The view from the patio was obstructed by vegitation which needed a good trim. Additionally, at check-in there was a problem with the door lock, but it was fixed the very next day.

The pool area was weathered and needed updating. The pool water was always cloudy.

The beach was very nice and enjoyed the snorkeling. However, Timothy Beach needs to invest in new chairs. Most had broken straps and needed repairs. Also beware Timothy does not offer Beach Umbrellas. If you want an umbrella (strongly suggested) they can be rented from Shiggity Shack or Monkey Bar.

Breakfast at the Sunset Bar was poor and expensive. For a good & reasonable breakfast buffet (costing the same as Sunset), I suggest walking to the Sugar Bay Resort.

Some positive points of Timothy Beach Resort: Friendly staff, great location, awsome sunsets, wild monkeys and centrally located to restaurants/beaches/casino.

Compared to other Caribbean Islands, we enjoyed St. Kitts - Nice beaches, good snorkeling, very friendly people, safe - no crime, easy to get around, the fort was awsome, natural landscape, nice views of Nevis & other islands, not built-up, non-commercialized (except for the ugly Marriott) and beautiful botanical gardens.

Only two disappoints in St. Kitts: First - Compared to other islands the food was good but rather expensive for the quality and types of food. Rams & IGA prices were higher than those found on other islands. Second - Someone on the island tried to use my Visa several times. Car Rental Company charged my card three times for the same amount. Numerous charges for "fifty cents" made from multiple locations starting appearing. Luckily Visa froze the card before to many charges were made.

All in all we enjoyed St. Kitts and would definately return!

It was very quiet and beautiful. Visited: January 2005

We are back from a four-day stay at Timothy Beach Resort. We had a one-bedroom suite. We loved the room, in particular the balcony which was perfect for lying in the sun.

Though we walked a lot to the Marriott for dining, we loved Timothy Beach more because it was quiet and non-commercial. It actually felt like an isolated Caribbean island resort, rather than a big tourist resort that could be anywhere.

The staff was friendly, and the rooms were very comfortable. The hotel sat against a big hill which made for a cozy tropical feel. The beach was great.

The only negative was the food, which was alright for some meals. However, lots of options were nearby and it gave us a chance to explore the island.

Timothy Beach Resort on Frigate Bay is a nice relaxed hotel with a very friendly and accommodating staff. However, when I arrived I was extremely disappointed to learn that a hurricane had destroyed the beach on Frigate Bay three years ago. Travelers beware! The pictures of the beach have not been updated! If it’s sun and the beach that you are looking for do not stay here! You will end up spending $15 US per day just to go to the beach.

Timothy Beach was an excellent place to get away from it all. The rooms were clean and spacious. The staff members were courteous and gracious.

One caveat--The Frigate Bay area (where Timothy Beach was located) was experiencing frequent power outages when we were here. Matches and a candle were provided in case the generator did not kick in (which happened our second night here).

There were some great shack bars on the beach and the pool was wonderful to lounge by. Be sure not to miss the monkeys during the morning or late afternoon. We would definitely recommend Timothy Beach for the budget-conscious traveler.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The monkeys come down the hill and onto resort grounds every morning and evening. It is the best place on island to enjoy the sunset. Also, a small bouquet of fresh flowers are placed in your room as a "welcome". The hairdryers work, and it is in a good location with a nice beach and good snorkeling. We had a great vacation!

It was outstanding in every way! Visited: December 2002

We just returned from a two-week stay at Timothy Beach Resort. As we have extensively traveled throughout the Caribbean over the last 28 years, we feel qualified to review and highly recommend this property.

We (my husband, our 16 year-old daughter and me) booked a one-bedroom condo, and had more than enough room. The condo was clean, well appointed, nicely decorated and had a fantastic view of the Carribbean and a view of the Atlantic! Sunsets from our balcony were fantastic. Our maid, Donna, was pleasant, friendly and did a fine job - a nice touch was the fresh flowers she left in both the bedroom and living room every day!

The property was well cared for thanks to the excellent manager, Richard Boon. Although the beach was somewhat washed away by the last hurricane, the resort added a wonderful large new seaside patio with lounge chairs, picnic tables, umbrellas for shade, and steps to enter the sea for the wonderful snorkeling right off the patio. There are also plans for the restoration of this beach by the St. Kitts government.

The Sunset Cafe restaurant had good, friendly service and an excellent varied menu at very affordable prices. Even the cost ($25 US) of price fixed 3 course Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners were not inflated as they usually are at other hotels throughout the Caribbean.

The pool was clean, and also afforded a nice view over the Caribbean. The grounds were beautifully landscaped.
As an added feature, there were several families of the Vervet monkeys who lived on the hill behind the hotel that came down and scampered through the property. No need to trek all the way to the rain forest to see them. They were friendly, quite gentle, very communicative and would eat right out of your hand! We made several trips to the local grocery store to buy oranges and bananas for them.

The Kittians were very friendly and helpful. There was no begging on the streets or harrassment to buy any local wares as you might find in other islands. we felt safe, even in the poorest areas. The island itself was gorgeous - many beaches, mountain ranges, rain forest and a volcano.

We sampled many restaurants and never had a bad meal. Our favorite was Sprat-Net - the owners caught their own fish. They had huge lobsters for $19 US, huge portions of freshly caught fish (grouper, snapper, mahi-mahi) or ribs for $9 US . It was open-air, very plain but right on the sea. Bring your own flatware as it was challenging to eat a hot grilled lobster with only the plastic fork they provided.

The catamaran day trip to Nevis via Blue Waters is recommended. I hope that the new Marriott hotel with its 900+ rooms will not ruin this island.

We'll be back and will definitely stay at Timothy Beach again!

Timothy Beach Resort was a good choice. Visited: November 2002
Posted by beanne
I just returned from a one-week stay, and it was an excellent choice.

The room actually turned out to be an apartment, including a full kitchen, which you could close the door to and really cool off the rest of the space; a dining area, a living room (with a sleeper sofa, coffee table and two large chairs); and the bedroom, with a king size bed and a sliding glass door leading to our patio that had two chaise lounges and a dining table and chairs.

I've never seen so much wildlife in one week as I did on St. Kitts. In the morning (6:30 AM - 7:30 AM), about 25 monkeys came down from the mountain behind the hotel and would feed. What an experiece that was! I actually fed one a banana. You will also see cows (on the road), bulls, goats, sheep, pigs, horses, turkeys, chickens, mongoose, lizards, salamanders and weasles.

Snorkeling in the morning right off the beach was terrific. Bring your own snorkel gear. Swim slowly and near the rocks and just hang out for a while at any particular spot and let the fish swim around you. Wait until you see the colors - it was incredible.

Also, it's shell heaven. The beach had been badly damaged by the last hurricane so there really was not much beach to speak of.

If hanging out at beach bars is your thing, you will not be disappointed. One of the most popular beach bars was right outside the front door (on the beach). It was more like a hot dog cart with picnic tables and bar stools, but it really brought in a crowd every night.

A few feet away, there was a tiki hut type reggae bar and at the far end of the beach there was another hopping beach bar/restaurant that had a huge bonfire on Saturday night. Despite all the drinking action, you don't hear any of the noise from your room.

Do not miss Turtle Beach and bring your camera (Monday seemed to be great day to go). Also, shopping and lunch in town was great. Window seats at Ballyhoo were a blast - watch the street scene below - all the locals just doing their thing. A day trip to Nevis is recommended. Call Teach Tours for an island tour including all the plantations - it was well worth the money.

Also, walk over to the Atlantic side (5 minutes from Timothy Beach) and walk down to the new Marriott and then across the street to Frigate Bay Beach Resort for some gambling action, and on your way back stop in at PJ's for pizza.

Dinner at the hotel was great, try the Caribbean chicken for an appetizer and the grilled lobster for dinner - yummy! Have fun and patience, don't forget, you are on Kittian time.

Timothy Beach was a wonderful and scenic resort.

We had a mountain view room with a balcony and a view of the north side. It was so peaceful and romantic. The maid service was excellent, the restaurant was very good and prices were awesome!

Timothy Beach Resort was clean and comfortable and was located in a gorgeous part of St. Kitts. The sunsets were spectacular from the beach and from the restaurant.

The staff was very professional and friendly. We planned our return before we even left! It made a great and romantic honeymoon. :)

And we will go back again and again for sure! Visited: April 2001
Posted by jdean1
We just returned April 25th from a 7 day stay at Timothy Beach Resort. This time we stayed in unit 32, which is a very nice one bedroom suite on the first floor to the left of the driveway. The location was perfect.

The front had a patio rather than a balcony and had 2 chaise lounges and a nice table. The inside was beautiful. The suite was quite large with a huge bedroom, large bathroom and large living/dining room area. The only disappointment to this particular unit was there was no oven, only a stovetop, so we could not broil steaks or anything else you would normally cook inside an oven. Other than that, the unit was superb! We loved it!!

We found the staff to be much better this year from our entrance to our exit. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a nice note from the Management and the staff welcoming us to the resort. There was also a beautiful basket filled with fruit, cheeses, and flowers in the refrigerator. It was such a wonderful welcome. On the dining room table each and every day were fresh flowers, individually selected by hand from the grounds of the resort and placed in a nice shell. I looked forward to what would be in the shell each day.

The entire staff were much more friendly than our last stay, not that our last stay was disappointing at all; but we did notice a change on this trip and it was definitely for the better. The staff was extremely attentive and the restaurant staff was much more friendly than last time.

A special thanks to Norla who was the housekeeper for our unit. She is a wonderful lady and so very nice to talk to each day. I looked forward to our short talks every day. She kept the room spotless and took care of us very well.

The Sunset Cafe was, as always, very good. The Marlin was especially good and probably the best thing on the menu. The Tequila Lime Chicken was also well liked by my husband. The chef is such a great guy too. In addition to doing his cooking duties, he comes out singing away and always stops at each table to see how everyone is doing, which I think is a real nice touch. He has a very friendly personality and sings quite well too!

We really enjoyed our stay once again at TBR. We will surely be back again and again. If they keep this going, they will surely get 5 stars from me!

A big thanks to the Manager, Richard, and his wonderful staff of great people!

My girlfriend and I loved it here! Visited: January 2001

This was our first visit to the Caribbean, so I didn't have a lot to compare it to, but I have to say that I loved St. Kitts, and I loved the Timothy Beach.

The staff was very nice and helpful. We never really had any problems with our condo, so the hotel staff was never "tested" for their service. But when we needed help or advice regarding where to go, what to do, where to eat, and which beaches were best, the staff gave us good advice every time.

The restaurant was decent and affordable. I will stay here again. All in all a great trip.

The only complaint about the whole trip was the poor customer service from the American Airlines staff, when they lost one of our bags.

Some advice- wear aqua socks when you go out in the water at the beach! Sharp stuff is just below.

My Fiancé and I went to St.Kitts to have a civil marriage. I found this resort on the WhereToStay site and I thought I would stay there. Since it is not so costly, I did not expect anything, but when I got there I was pleasantly surprised.

The staff was very friendly, especially the Asst. Manager, Sandra Fleming. She was wonderful. The accommodation we had was a one-bedroom apartment. It was great. The room was very clean. The Air conditioning was perfect and the staff was very accommodating.

Sandra did not let us have a wedding in the Court, instead she asked up to pick a spot on the lawn of the resort. She arranged everything there and made an Arch. It is said that marriages are made in heaven; it is true. We had a marriage in heaven. We had a great wedding and Sandra was wonderful.

I will go back to this resort for sure.

My new husband and I have been to SK four times since our wedding in September of
1999. I love this island and our most favorite resort is definitely the Timothy Beach
Resort.

Last year, we had unit 25A. It is a very rustic studio with cathedral-like ceilings. The room
is huge with a queen-sized sofa bed, which was made up every single day. The room is
also equipped with full kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave and all of the dishes,
glasses and utensils anyone could ask for. It has a large 19"+ cable tv with all channels,
even HBO! We left a couple of dishes in the sink and they were cleaned when we
returned. We did not expect anyone to do this for us, but it was a very much appreciated
gesture.

The bathroom is large enough for two people to move around comfortably and is
equipped with ever-so-white towels, large bars of soap and a built-in hair dryer.

The food at Sunset Cafe was very good. To this day, my husband still talks about the
swordfish dinner he had there.

This resort is the only place to stay directly on the Caribbean waters. Right outside your
door and a short walk away is all the snorkeling and swimming you could want. Mr. T's
Water Sports (not affiliated with TBR) is right outside the property and he has all the
water sport gear you need. We brought home over 40 lbs. of shells from the beach!

The service is outstanding, the rooms are immaculate, and the office staff is right there to
assist you in any way morning, noon and night. We are going back to St. Kitts in three
weeks and are once again staying at the Timothy Beach Resort. This time we’ll be staying
in a One-Bedroom Suite, and we just can't wait! I highly recommend this resort and have
many times over. You cannot ask for a better place to stay at a better price.

Very nice stay at Timothy Beach. Visited: February 2000

I just returned from a one week vacation at the Timothy Beach Resort, St. Kitts. We had an awesome time! The accomodations were clean, comfortable and spacious. Guest services from the front desk department were outstanding. They were able to arrange for excursions on the island and provided a safety deposit box to keep valuables in. The pool was beautiful, the beach was nicely kept and the snorkeling right off the beach was very good. Many other resorts were shuttling their guests to Timothy Beach because the surf on the Atlantic side was too rough to swim in.

Timothy's beach is the only resort right on the Caribbean. The restaurant (Sunset Cafe) was nice and the service was adequate.

St. Kitts is an amazingly beautiful island. We would highly recommend the catamaran trip to Nevis and to spend some time on the Southeast peninsula. Also, be prepared to convert your currency to Eastern Caribbean currency. If you don't, local merchants will overcharge you.

Wonderful three weeks at Timothy Beach Visited: November 1999
Posted by psmith3
I just returned from a three week stay at Timothy. The staff is wonderful, friendly and very helpful. Beach chairs and beach towels are complimentary for guests of the hotel. Next door to the hotel, Mr. X's water sports offers chair rentals to non-guests as well as rentals of jet skis, snorkel equipments, etc. Everything you need is right there.

The rooms at Timothy are adequately furnished, but if you need anything (iron, additional kitchen equipment), the staff will have it there for you immediately.

I found the food at the Sunset Cafe to be very good. The Marlin was delicious.

Timothy Beach is not luxurious, but is the best value for your dollar and it is the only resort on the Caribbean side of the island.

We rented the two bedroom townhome and found the unit to be spacious, immaculate and with an abundance of closet space. The staff were unbelievably pleasant and accommodating -- akin to what you would expect from the most expensive 5-star hotels in the world.

The food at the restaurant was freshly prepared, very good and reasonably priced. The location can't be beat with the beautiful Caribbean beach (Frigate Bay) right outside and the lovely pool area overlooks it also.

The air-conditioners worked well in all three rooms and there was plenty of hot water for showers day and night. I looked at many properties on the island, but for the best bang for your buck you can't beat Timothy Beach!

Super hospitality, facilities, and beach! Visited: November 1999

We recently returned from two weeks at Timothy Beach Hotel. As we have been coming to St. Kitts since 1993 and own a home on St. Kitts, we have had the opportunity to stay at several hotels on the island.

Timothy beach has the best beach & best snorkeling of all of the resorts. The staff is most accommodating. Timothy Beach has a valuables safe deposit system that makes you feel that your valuables will be there when you want them. The restaurant has excellent "jerk chicken" and a wonderful Tuesday night guest welcoming party.

The only negative, and that is a positive is that many of the units have "solar hot water heating" to conserve energy. Take your daily shower, if you need one, in late afternoon. Change your US dollars to Eastern Caribbean at a local bank, otherwise the local merchants will charge you for the inconvenience of changing your dollars.
