Papillon was excellent and relaxing. Visited: January 2006 |

This was our first time in the Caribbean, and we were not disappointed! The hotel was really nice, and the staff was very helpful. We were in a party of 15 people which included three young girls under 11, and a 15-year-old boy. That's not always an easy mix!
The evening entertainment was excellent, with steel bands to 'funny money' roulette, and crab racing to choose from. It was great fun.
Be careful when ordering your cocktails and drinks at all of the bars, as the staff did not appear to understand measures! You can end up three sheets to the wind in a very short space of time!
Our friends got married during our stay, and the organization went really well. Although, it did rain on us. We thought that this was a bit of our Cornish weather come with us.
Altogether, we had a really relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We will hopefully go back in the not too distant future. |

I was totally satisfied with my stay here. Visited: November 2005 |

We came here to get married on the 18th of November. We came with our six-year-old daughter and four friends.
The hotel was excellent, the food was superb, and the staff was friendly and helpful.
The wedding was better than I could imagine, thanks to the co-ordinator, Doreen; the videographer, Peter; and the photographer, Patrick.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone no matter what age as the entertainment provided by the guest services staff (Kerry) was fantastic. It was a totally excellent holiday.
In addition, the town of Rodney Bay was close at hand, and the local people were really friendly. The food was good, and the boat trips were fun. Also, go to the Chill Grill and ask for Tony or Terry.
We're booking for next year - I hope. |

We went to Papillon with a party of nine to get married. The ceremony was everything we wanted and more. Also, the staff was lovely, and the location was beautiful.
We would recommend it to anyone, though it would be best to go with a group of people to get the reception feeling. We stayed here two weeks, and wished it could have been longer. |

We were very disappointed. Visited: August 2005 |

We recently returned from our so-called 'honeymoon'! We found the food to be inedible. The fish and chicken were half cooked, and that could actually cause food poisoning.
We paid for an upgraded room, but from the dreadful condition of it, we wondered what a standard room could possibly be like!
Excursions were cancelled last minute with no alternative offered. And we experienced loads of hidden surcharges.
Entertainment was okay if you like karaoke or crab racing. I think that would be okay at holiday camps, but not in at a Caribbean resort.
It was very disappointing for us, considering the amount of money we paid. |

I can't believe or understand the negative reviews. Visited: August 2005 |

I absolutely cannot begin to understand the negative reviews that have been written about this resort. I have to admit after reading the reviews, I was a little bit nervous about how our vacation would be. But, after going, my husband and I were more than satisfied.
First of all, the country of St. Lucia was absolutely breathtaking. It was mountainous, plush, well kept, and very green. The color of the sea was crystal blue. It was gorgeous all around.
The food was nothing extravagant, but it was very very good. There were more than enough options to choose from at every meal, and anything we chose was satisfying.
At the Rex St. Lucian, there was the Oriental food restaurant. This was absolutely excellent. I recommend this to everyone. It was a little bit of an extra charge, but they did give us a very generous credit. The staff was extremely generous with the amount of alcohol put in the drinks, too (especially with the rum). So, if you do not like your drinks stiff, tell them before hand.
The staff was friendly and very efficient. They were somewhat slow paced, but they were very friendly and this made up for it.
The rooms were simple, but very clean and tidy.
The only complaint was that the air-conditioning never seemed to be as cold as we wanted to be. However, it wasn't that big of an issue because it did work and we were always comfortable.
I definitely recommend going on some of the tours. The "Land and Sea" tour was magnificent and very entertaining. You will get to see a good majority of the country both on land and on sea.
The snorkeling tour was also great. Paul was the tour guide and he was wonderful! On our tour, we got to see a sea turtle, eel, rock fish, and many beautiful fish. Watch out for the jellyfish, though.
The entertainment at the hotel was fantastic. The steel band group was a must see. Definitely do not miss it. They were great!
The beach and water were gorgeous. While on the beach however, there were many vendors that approached us. It could become quite annoying. Although, they did have some very nice things to offer. If you come across a man named Michael selling bird feeders made out of a coconut, give him a chance. What a wonderful person he was - and very generous, too.
If you decide on the Rex Papillon, you will not be disappointed. We definitely weren't. |

I was bored, robbed and bitten during my stay. Visited: May 2005 |

I have recently come back from my brother's wedding in St. Lucia, and stopped in the Rex Papillion. I can only say that I was very disappointed.
My main complaint would be so called "security staff", who didn't seem to be there to protect us, but there to rob us. After befriending us within the first couple of days, they extracted enough information from us to pick their date and time to do the deed and they also have the perfect getaway.
My other complaint was that the food wasn't brilliant, and breakfast appeared to be reheated each morning, The complex was dated, and was more like run down holiday camp in the UK.
All-inclusive didn't mean what should mean. Watch out the little surcharges on your wallet.
The other complaint would be the boredom factor. The bars closed early, and the entertainment finished at 11:00 pm. They didn't seem to have any coordinator to get people involved in activities. So, if you need entertained, don't come here.
My final complaint was the insect problem. If you don't like being bitten by insects, keep well away.
The good points: most of the other staff was friendly; and the beach was nice, but looked to be man made. |

It was fantastic - we could not fault it in any way. Visited: November 2004 |

My husband and I returned from The Rex Papillion on December 3rd , and have vowed to return again.
We had a beachfront room which was superb. The food was truly wonderful, there was not a single meal when we struggled to find something good to eat.
The staff was extremely helpful (especially Lillian and Imran in the bar and Roger on front desk). Also, our Virgin rep., Mark, was extremely good. If we asked for something, it would be done immediately. We asked for two extra pillows, and by the time we got back to our room, they were there.
We tended to use the bar at the Rex St. Lucian in the evening only for the simple reason that it was on the seafront (the Papillion was by the pool).
A five-minute walk down the road, there was a host of shops, restaurants and a bank for changing your money (although you could change it at reception). There were the usual gift shops at the hotel and an ice cream parlor, a salon and a vendor's market selling all the local souvenirs. The sun went down at 5.30, and it was really nice to walk along the beach and watch.
Guests could catch a water taxi (about 5 EC dollars (£1.)) into the yatch marina if they were interested in boats, and the hotel ran a taxi service into Castries and Port Serpahine (for your duty free) at about £10 return journey for 1-8 people). One good thing about this is you could purchase the duty-free booze and collect it at the airport.
We took one trip, which was Virgin's Surf and Turf. This was a morning coach trip showing the various sights of the island, lunch and return on a catarmaran. It was well worth it.
I would recommend that you book through Virgin, as their "check-in, chill out" service is brilliant. Guests come to the hotel on the morning of their departure, and they will check their luggage in for them, and give them a boarding card. Then, when they get to the airport (just an hour before departure), all they have to do is go via customs.
The only down side to a holiday in St. Lucia is the one-and-a-half hour coach trip around extremely winding roads from the airport to the resorts. If you really hate it, you can book a helicopter trip back for £80 per person, but do book it as soon as you arrive because it gets booked very quickly. |

This was our best holiday ever Visited: August 2004 |

This is our third Caribbean holiday, but it was the best by far.
All the staff and locals were extremely friendy and would stop at nothing to help us. We changed our room once because there was no view, but Lesley, the assistant manager, had no problem in up-grading us for free. He was extremely helpful and friendly.
All the bar staff and waiters were always upbeat and made some of the best drinks we have ever tasted. The food was delicious and we always had a variety of things to choose from.
We treated ourselves to a night in the Oriental restaurant. There was a great selection of food there, also.
The evening entertainment was teriffic. There were local steel drum bands some nights, and piano or trumpet players on other nights.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at the Res Papillon St. Lucia. |

We went as a couple (August 2004) with the expectation of sun, sea, friendship, decent rooms, food and entertainment. The latter was not brilliant, but we enjoyed crab racing, steel bands, and reggae.
All other expectations were fully met - from air conditioning in rooms, to general atmosphere and welcome. The staff was extremely helpful and we were not disappointed in any way.
Some equipment was aging (e.g. sun lounger chairs - but there were plenty - no race with towels, ice cream charged - but for those with kids the free cocktails and no alc lager made up for that).
The bar closed 12:30 - a little early for some, but we were too tired by then. The location was superb for nightlife, local shops and bars. Also, the hotel was best for child-friendly couples or families.
We felt totally safe, and the beach was top drawer. It was the best ever. We would go back. |

My family and I recently stayed at this hotel, not ever having done an all-inclusive holiday before. It was fantastic. And all the staff was friendly and couldn't do enough to help us.
The food was very good (it had to be, my teenage daughter tends to be a little picky on the food front!) The soft drink cocktails were great, especially the 'Royal Navy'. We liked them so much so that I have brought back all the soft drink cocktail recipes to try here at home!
I would only have one gripe - the vendors on the beach. But they did not detract from what was a great holiday. Even the fact that we did not have a TV or radio in the room, it was good to get away from the world's woes. We would definitely give that holiday a big thumbs up. |

We had a lovely holiday and wedding here. Visited: March 2004 |

We went to the Papillon Hotel in March 2004. I wish I was back there! We went to get married at the resort and took ten of our family members with us - what a great time we had!
The restaurants were average and there were some nice places to eat. If you really want to push the boat out, try the chic restaurant which is situated in the Royal hotel. It was out of this world - definitely a treat!
The Monarch restaurant was bland at times, but the barbeque nights were great. The staff was friendly, and everything was very spotless throughout the resort. Our wedding went without a hitch, and the weather was lovely.
There was a safe in our room, and one behind reception. Also, we recommend the Swedish massage by Len Roy. It was on the beach, and it was the most relaxing one I've ever had. It was only £20.00 and all the family had one!
The helicopter ride back to the airport rounded the holiday off nicely. You can book this via reception.
The rooms were cleaned each day and fresh towels were provided daily. Also, there was no need for beach towels, guests could hire them at no charge daily.
You must stay here! It was a lovely wedding and honeymoon for us. We hope to see all the staff soon. A great time was had by all, and we will definitely go back!

We had an amazing holiday! Visited: February 2004 |

We just came back from the Rex Papillon last night. I just have to submit my opinons because I can't believe the negative reviews on this site about this resort.
To start, the food was amazing. The last night we were here we had roast turkey, lamb chops, baked fish, roasted potatoes and vegetables. I honestly don't understand what anyone would have to complain about.
The night before that, we had beef wellington, before that steak, before that pork roast - there wasn't any night that the food was not good! The staff in the restaurant was very effecient, pulling out our chairs, laying our cloth napkins across our laps and asking if we would like a drink from the bar. Yes, it took patience at some times, but we were on holiday and no one was ignoring us on purpose.
The staff was very friendly, most attentive and some were very entertaining. Breakfast was always good, eggs were done however we wanted. Lunch was also good at the oceanfront or the buffet. The drinks were plentiful and very strong, almost too strong for my liking, not at all watered down!
St. Lucia was very free and liberal with the rum, they used a shot glass but overfilled it at least three times - maybe more - for every drink
Also, the beach was georgous, white sand and crystal clear water.
Keep in mind it was not a five star, but as far as I'm concerned that was only because it was a smaller resort and not as elaborate as some. But don't get me wrong - the grounds were beautiful and well tended to.
Our room was number 108, a stone's throw to the beach, bar and restaurant. We had a patio and could sit out all evening in the warm breeze, bug free and we were close to everything.
I would definitely recommend this holiday to anyone. I believe people will complain about anything. We loved it! |

My wife and I entered a competition in our local newspaper and won a six-night, all-inclusive trip to St. Lucia. From our departure in Trinidad to our reception, and throughout our stay and our eventual departure, we were treated in the most magnificent way that we hadn't expected.
My highest gratitude to the staff - especially one receptionist who made sure we met the assistant manager at the welcome party. Also, thanks to Roger at the check-in counter. Hats off to everyone at Rex Papillon. Thank you! |

This was just the best holiday we have spent. The staff was really friendly and there was a great atmosphere in the resort. The meals were good and we particularly enjoyed the themed evenings. One night we treated ourselves to dinner at the Oriental restaurant at Rex St. Lucian - it was wonderful.
They also had a lovely beach and we look forward to returning again. |

My husband and I are still reeling from our experience. In a nutshell, the staff was surly and the food, awful. There's no water pressure and the air conditioning didn't work. The booze was watered down; you couldn't get drunk if you tried. The outside bar smelled so bad, I still have it in my nose. I wrote to the hotel to complain and received no response, which shows how much they care about getting repeat customers. Please, please don't waste your money or your time here. |

My worst experience Visited: January 2003 |

This property was by far the worst place I have ever stayed. I do alot of traveling. Our room was changed 4 times in a week do to airconditioning problems. They have 2 open air restuarants, which means no air. There was no where you can go to eat or drink and be cool. Bar service often out of ice and where very slow to replenish. Food left alot to be desired. The island was beautiful and there where alot of nice resorts. But this one I do not recommend. |

When I checked in I was told that I wasn't suppose to arrive until the next night. Even though the rest of my party was scheduled for the right date and I had a written confirmation from the travel agent. It took them hours to find me a room. The service was poor and the food left a lot to be desired. The pool bars were always out of ice and service was always slow. They also need a new system for handing out clean towels at the pools. If you weren't there first thing in the morning they had no towels left for late risers. I've been to other all-inclusives and by far this was the worst. |

I have traveled to many resorts and this resort was by far the worst place I have ever stayed. The resort was a disgrace and not worth the money we paid. Our room was changed four times in seven days because of air conditioning problems. The food and beverages were the worst. They were often out of things and were very slow to replenish. Service was also terrible; they would yes you to death and never comply. The restaurants were open-air, which meant there was no air at all. They had no place that was air conditioned to just sit and relax. The island of St. Lucia was very beautiful and a nice island to visit, but I would strongly recommend choosing another resort. |

This was the worst place that I have ever stayed. The food was very bad. The help was rude and of no help. You have to pay extra for air conditioning. I was moved three times and the air conditioning was broken in every room. I left things in the first room by accident and never got them back. All in all, the trip was a disaster. |

There was a party of eight people who took this trip. Our flight was delayed and upon check-in one group was given a room with someone already occupying it. Others had rooms where the water pressure was poor. Food was redundant and most times awful. Bacon was almost raw and the sausage was awful at breakfast and dinners were also bad.
Another in our party had to be moved three times. The air conditioning didn't work and then they put them in a room without air conditioning. I tried to get a duplicate key and after three days, I finally told them to forget it.
When I was checking out the phone rang and our flight home had been cancelled. I had to take a 20-minute cab ride with all of the tickets to get new flight plan, then take a cab back to hotel and then to the Airport. We had three calls from home that the hotel never told us about. |
