Just visited for a weekend (3 night) trip to propose to my (now) fiance. It was a wonderful resort. The people were incredible. They were super friendly and helpful. They remember your name, your favorite drinks, and even personal info that you thought was just small talk. Maybe it's because I've been in New York for too long now, but sheesh, it was almost weird how genuinely nice they were.
We stayed at the beachfront cabana which was pretty nice. The beach itself was great and wasn't very crowded (for some reason, everyone hung out at the pool). The beachfront was lined by a nice grassy area with palm trees, gazebos, hidden speakers playing soft music, swinging benches, etc. It was very romantic and peaceful.
The food was fine, nothing great but nothing to complain about. This was the first time I had been to an all-inclusive resort, and I am hooked on the concept. It completely changes the tenor of your days when you don't have to think about food or money. You can focus on the important things and just grab food and/or drinks whenever you feel the urge.
Having the water activities included was also a boon. There was a large selection of equipment and activities, and it was a kick walking only 2 minutes down the beach to get on a surf bike, or go out on a mini sailboat, or hop a ride to a bay for some snorkeling. Ultra, ultra convenient.
As a final note, let me make an observation about Halcyon's virtues versus the other Sandals in St. Lucia. Halcyon is much more intimate and romantic, and there is a lot to be said for doing activities in small groups. As an example, our snorkeling/scuba boat had about 5 couples versus the other Sandals' boat, which was packed with people. We basically never waited in line, and we never felt a need to hurry to sign up for something.
Overall, I was very happy with the experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend Sandals Halcyon to others. |

The nicer one of the two in St. Lucia. Visited: March 2000 |

Sandals Halcyon St. Lucia is one of two all-inclusive Sandals resorts in St. Lucia. Halcyon is the smaller of the two resorts. The tallest building is only two stories high. The staff is very friendly and knows everybody by name. The rooms are very clean and well kept. The food is good, but small portions forced you to snack throughout the night. The entertainment is enjoyable to watch, but ended a bit early for my taste.
Sandals Halcyon is small and intimate, and you can walk to everything the resort has to offer. This is not true of Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa. There, you need a shuttle bus to get to dinner from some of the higher category rooms. The Halcyon property is also greener, fuller, richer, and more appealing to the eye as compared to the much larger and impersonal Golf Resort. The upside to the Golf Resort are the restaurants. The choices are better and more filling. There is bus service between the two Sandals resorts so you can enjoy them all. The entertainment seemed to be the same. Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa and also features a European Spa, which seems nice but is an additional charge.
There are 2 airports in St Lucia, an international airport and a little building with a runway. The international airport is a 1½-hour bus ride away, on the other side of the island. The little building with a runway is only minutes away, and you never hear the planes flying overhead!
I prefer Sandals Halcyon to Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa. |
