We were very disappointed! Visited: January 2004 |

We arrived at 6:45 on Saturday night tired and hungry. The Plantation restaurant was closed. So, we had to get back in the car (lucky we had one!) and go down to the beach resort restaurant, where we were the only customers the entire time we were there (I admit, the food was good).
Some of the lights in our room didn't work, one of the windows in the (one) room that had A/C didn't close, and there was no hot water. In addition, the TV controller did not work, and we thought the decor was awful.
The next morning, we were told that we couldn't use the Plantation restaurant for breakfast, we had to go back down to the beach. We argued and prevailed, but the restaurant was a disappointment as well. Again, we were the only customers.
The service was very slow, the blaring music was Country Western and wasn't changed despite our complaints, and the coffee we were served was a pot of hot water and packets of instant coffee! Also, the swimming pool was dirty. We left after only one night here. |

We stayed at Still Beach Resort, which is rather different to the Plantation. There are not many rooms and it’s a little basic, but you won't find a cheaper place that boasts air conditioning, a beachfront, and such high levels of cleanliness and service.
Don't bother with restaurant, though; Soufriere has better options. The Mirage is an excellent expert-run eatery in town. Don't forget to try one of the Jalousie restaurants at least once during you stay. We rented a car and combined a few days at Still Beach with a few days at a resort on the other side of the island. We highly recommended this combination, as it allows for you to see all of the sights.

We stayed at The Still Plantation and it was unbelievable - a step back in time. We felt that this was the real St Lucia, as it has been for centuries.
Each morning we watched the ebb and flow of plantation life - workers drying cocoa beans, processing copra and tending the citrus and banana plantations. We saw the fish cultivation ponds and one day saw them netting the fish (and the Crawfish-yummy.)
Touring the plantations whether on horseback or by foot was always an adventure. Herons, parrots, doctor birds and endless varieties of flowers, trees and fruit abounded. Who can forget a fresh Guava picked ripe from the tree or seeing the nutmegs with their purple mace bindings?
Early mornings, we sat on our balcony with our first cup of fresh coffee and watched the hawks soar down the valley as the sun rose.
Our two story apartment was huge, and we enjoyed fresh flowers and fresh fruit in abundance. It was a truly memorable experience and one we intend to repeat. |
