The location was stunning. Visited: June 2006 |

I recommend you do not take the helicopter transfer, but take the taxi. The helicopter company lied to us stating the airport transfer was 15 minutes long, and another guest was told it cost $70 US/person. Once we took the flight, it was only five-minutes and cost $125 US/person...sticking guests with a bill for less of a service and higher price than promised.
When we all addressed our concerns, they either ignored us or said that they would try to work something out (then not get back to us as promised). Basically, they had our money already so they didn't care!
As for the hotel, the location was stunning. But having to take the shuttle to go anywhere in the resort (due to steep hills and distance), was a bit irritating.
The dinners were great, and the scuba diving and snorkeling was excellent! Don't take the trip to Castries, there was nothing to see there (not even good shopping). The view of the Pitons from the resort and beach was absolutely magnificent!
You must eat at Dasheen's at the Ladera Resort right above Jalousie Plantation. They had great food and a fabulous view! |

Not the premium hotel it suggests Visited: May 2005 |

I just returned from a week long vacation at the Jalouise Hilton. It was nice but definitely not the premium hotel that Hilton suggests it is.
Pros:
- Location. It does have a great view of the pitons.
- Plantation Restaurant. Excellent food, presentation, and service.
Cons:
- Rooms. Definitely needs upgrades. We had bug infestation, no hot water, construction next door, lamp almost caught on fire, and broken furniture.
- Staff. Not very helpful unless it is about spending money at resort.
- Price. Rooms, meals, amenities are all very expensive for the quality that you receive.
About St. Lucia...
- Great views, very beautiful place.
- People are extremely friendly.
- Suggest renting a car since taxis are expensive and it takes a while to get to anyplace due to the winding roads. But do NOT rent from Cool Breeze rental. They overcharged us even though we had proof of price, made rules up that were not in contract, and made us pay for damage already on car that we mentioned when we picked it up.
-South of the island is more picturesque. North part has more activities.

Jalousie provided a great location, great staff and great fun. Visited: October 2004 |

The hotel's location was fabulous, located between the two Pitons. The sunsets were fantastic and could be seen from all of the bars in the hotel.
The staff was great, with Rosina the concierge organizing anything that we needed. The restaurant and bar staff were all super. The watersports staff, especially, Jay, Don and Curtis were excellent. also, the diving was excellent and the dive boat was fast, fun and well equipped.
In addition, the food was all excellent and was very reasonably priced. The Spa facilities were very good, as well.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this resort to anyone. |

Escape to ecstasy. Visited: August 2003 |

If you need stillness and serenity, this is the place to be! This escape was a total mental break for me.
The mountain views were stunning. The ocean was absolutely gorgeous. The flowers and greenery were plentiful. The mixed aroma of the mountains, ocean and flowers was unbelievably incredible!
The walk down the mountainous resort lead directly into a glorious ocean with open arms.
The Plantation Restaurant was totally exquisite and served delicious food. I did not like the food at the Pier Restaurant at all. Café Beau served a decent lunch. The Bayside Restaurant served lunch on the beach or by the poolside, which was very good. Definitely go to Dasheene’s at Ladera, the view was romantic and food was magnificent (must go before sundown). Food was very expensive.
Most of the waiters and waitresses did not crack a smile at all, which was a pity.
Snorkeling, kayaking, sailing and horseback riding were fantastic.
Do not expect nightlife, dancing or gambling because there was none. It felt just fabulous doing nothing at all! |

Jalousie is great for families! Visited: August 2003 |

We were here for a full week and did it all! Accommadations were quite comfortable, they offered facilities for watersports, a child center, etc. - all on the premises.
The staff went out of their way to be helpful. If anything could be faulted, it was the food. It was good, but not up to the level I would have expected from this otherwise perfect resort.
We spent a lot of time with watersports, and the divestaff and dive sites were great. I would highly recommend this resort for a family vacation |

Beautiful, tranquil, breathtaking....just a few words to describe the Jalousie Hilton. Having been to St. Lucia before ...and having driven the windy roads....we took the helicopter to the hotel. (F-Y-I The Hilton is the only hotel on the island with a helipad) It was my first time and I was a bit nervous, but the pilot was excellent and the view was spectacular! We took the helicopter out, too.
We booked a room without a plunge pool, but were offered an upgrade at a discounted rate. We really didn't miss it. The beach was gorgeous with plenty of huts for shade, and the pool was very nice.
The rooms were all separate villas - very quiet and secluded. But all of that seclusion came at a price - you have to take the shuttle everywhere. During rush-hours (breakfast, late afternoon) the wait was as long as 20 minutes. The complex was not walkable, unless you're in very good shape.
The gym was serviceable, with treadmills, stationary bikes and weights. Check out the jaccuzi and cool pools on the mountaintop after your workout - they were very refreshing.
I had a very good massage from Gabila. All of the staff was very nice - a bit slow, but you are on island time, right?
Food at the resort was very expensive (we spent about $700 for seven dinners). And for some crazy reason, you cannot even buy a soda at the gift shops. Everything had to be ordered to the minibar in your room. A large bottle of water went for $4 and change.
The casual Pier Restaurant was very good....check out Italian Night. Taxis to Soufriere were $30 for two, round trip. So eating out to save money sort of defeated the purpose. But we really liked The Old Courthouse on the outskirts of the city. The Mango Tree at the Stonefield Estate was great and so romantic. Bang, just off the Jalousie grounds, was good (and your only moderately priced option). Owner Lord Glenconner was a character.
All of the restaurants accepted US currency, but you'll get change in EC. Bring travelers checks because there's no ATM on the resort...or anywhere nearby.
Breakfast at the hotel was overpriced ($14-$16 US dollars). Watch out for the birds stealing your food when you go to get more off the buffet.
So many have raved about Dasheene at Ladera...the view of the Pitons was unparalleled, but the food and service was awful. I got sick from the filet mignon and it was very expensive.
I would recommend Jalousie to those who are not on a budget who are looking to get away from it all. I would definitely go back. |

We had the perfect honeymoon. Visited: July 2003 |

We just returned from a week at the Jalousie Hilton. This was the perfect honeymoon destination. If you have any doubts of where to stay, book the Hilton now.
Do not even consider taking a taxi from the airport. The road was undergoing major construction and was 2.5 hours of winding bumpy road. We took the helicopter both ways. It took seven minutes and was an exhilirating experience.
The staff couldn't have beeen friendlier at Jalousie. We were offered drinks and cool towels upon check-in. Also, they offered everyone a discounted upgrade to try to sell you the more expensive room. There was no need. We had an oceanview villa with a plunge pool and loved it.
The restaurants were very expensive, so be prepared to tack on an extra $500 a week or so for meals. The restaurant Bang (which technically was not part of the Hilton, though it was attached) was an enormous waste of time. Dinner took 3.5 hours, it was horribly over-priced and the entertainment was cheesy and boring. Do not waste your time there!
The Jalousie can also book all your tours for you for the town of Soufriere and the rainforest - also Botanical Gardens, volcano (Sulphur Springs), mineral baths, and the diamond waterfalls. The rainforest hike was very exhausting, but the swim in the waterfall made it well worth it.
The Jalousie Hilton was the nicest, friendliest resort I've ever visited. We will 100% go back for our next vacation and I cannot recommend it enough. If you want quiet, seclusion, and picturesque beauty, stay at the Jalousie Hilton. |

It is relaxing, but do your homework before going. Visited: July 2003 |

We went to the Jalousie at the beginning of July. I will be brief and leave out the extraneous details.
Do not go all-inclusive unless someone else is paying. Ero line grocery store in Soufriere had all booze, beer and snacks at normal prices. Find another couple and split the cost to town.
Don't go to Dasheen after 6:30 and request an edge table. Get room 303 if all possible. The view is the best on the resort. Bring a small collapsable cooler and ice your own drinks on the beach. The service is slow.
The staff is exceptionally friendly, but not overly helpful. Don't bother leaving to see rest of island, it's kind of commercialized and provides very little actual Caribbean culture.
Take the helicopter in but not out, they require you to leave two hours before the flight leaves and you sit in the airport that whole time. Take the taxi out, because you don't need to get there far in advance when leaving.
Eat lunch on the beach. They have good sized portions and good convenience. Get up and get your palapa before 10:00 a.m.
This resort is in a great dramatic location. But it is quiet with no nightlife. Use a can opener to turn up the refrigerator first thing. And the water is totally safe - don't sweat it. |

My husband and I planned our belated honeymoon to St. Lucia in June, 2003. This forum was so helpful, I just had to add my two cents to help all those other trip planners.
1) The food isn’t anything especially spectacular, but it is very good. If you’re expecting the best meal of your life, lower your expectations. If you want a good variety of tasty Caribbean fare, you’re looking in the right place.
2) After all the warnings we received about the costs, my husband and I were very apprehensive. However, while the trip wasn’t cheap (if you want a bargain – go on a road trip), the hotel is not expensive. You pay about the same that you would at any Hilton in the US.
What makes this trip spendy is the fact that it’s difficult to get off the resort, and to do so you have to take a costly cab ride. This generally negates the purpose of getting out to save cash. We got out of there with a cab ride to and from the airport, to and from Soufriere, drinks, food, and spa – for $1300 (seven nights, two people).
3) Don’t leave the resort, period. That will save you a ton in taxi charges. Gas there is over $3.00 a gallon (USD) and they have to replace the tires every three months. The costs for rides follow that kind of upkeep. There’s enough to do at the resort for a weeks worth of fun, but not really much more.
All the non-motorized water sports are free, and they have various dance and exercise classes throughout the week. If those who you travel with enjoy games, and the games are easy to pack, you might want to bring one. I have no idea how many cribbage games my husband and I played.
4) Okay…so leave the hotel once. Go to Soufriere’s local grocery store Eroline’s (about $40 round trip), and stock up on food for light meals.
If you plan on drinking, buy alcohol there and don’t drink during dinner and on the beach. We bought bottles of (good) wine for $3.50 and a nice bottle of Italian sparkling wine for $6.00. Beer was about $.75 a bottle, for good St. Lucia beer.
My husband and I would watch the sunset, and drink a glass of wine or two. By the time we went to dinner, we’d had enough to drink and were satisfied with a coke. Also, when we wanted a drink at the beach we’d head up to our villa and have our drink on our verandah. This made the trip so much more affordable.
5) Watch out for the service charge and sales tax. When all is said and done, you have about 15% extra on your bill, keep that in mind when you buy.
Most of all, have an outstanding time…and relax. You’re on island time. |

We enjoyed a romantic honeymoon spot in an unbeatable location. Visited: June 2003 |

My husband and I just returned from the Hilton for a ten-day honeymoon. We wanted a place that was romantic and uncrowded, yet on an island that offered activities when we wanted to go on excursions. We got all of that and more at the Jalousie.
We stayed in an oceanview villa that had a breathtaking view of the ocean and the mountains. This resort had a great combination of a beautiful location and the luxury that you would expect from a Hilton.
Upon our arrival late at night, we were thrilled to find a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us in our villa. It was a great beginning to our honeymoon and we never wanted it to end.
I am so glad I chose the Hilton rather than some of the other resorts where I would be one of dozens of other newlyweds. The Hilton staff was attentive and friendly.
The resort had a decent gym that I went to a few times. I also got a soothing massage that was very relaxing. This was definitely a must for the weary traveler!
There were a few things to note, though. The food was very expensive. For the budget traveler, this may not be the best choice if you plan on eating at the hotel all the time. Dinner (with drinks) typically ran around $60-100 for two people for the Pier, and over $150 for two at the Plantation Room.
Also, we found the housekeeping schedule inconvenient as they would not come until mid-afternoon. Typically, we would leave our room in the morning and return between 1-3 p.m. and the room still had not been cleaned. This was a pain at times as we often went to the beach and were ready to take a shower when we returned only to have the maid come and we would have to wait for her to finish.
Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a romantic resort with all of the amenities. We cannot wait to return! |

We just returned from a thirteen-day stay at the Jalousie Hilton. What a fantastic honeymoon! We were upgraded (paid a discounted rate) to an oceanview villa suite. It was amazing. There was a proper pool on the patio, not just a plunge, and we sunbathed there every day! We didn't want to go to the pool or beach area.
The staff was very friendly, but not the most responsive. The concierge was frustrating. We loved Dashene's restaurant, the Plantation Room, the Old Courthouse in Soufriere and the Palm Court Candlelight Dinner.
Do not go to the Calypso Friday night buffet - bloody awful food at an astromonical price. Wednesday night at Bang was okay. The gymnasts were something else, but the food was so poor it almost ruined the experience (it really was shameful).
We had a great honeymoon - the view, the solitude, and the sun were all fantastic. Do not go all-inclusive, you will be stuck eating sub-standard food and drinking low quality drinks for a top rate price.
Also, take the helicopter both ways. On the way back, the helicopter people have your suitcases sent separately. Do not allow a porter to take the case when you are identifying which one is yours. |

We got married at the Jalousie last month. What a fantastic experience!
The staff was the friendliest and they went out of their way to make our stay really special. We cannot wait to return!
We had an ocean villa with plunge pool, which was perfect. It was great to jump in the plunge pool when the heat got too much! Go all-inclusive if you can. The food was amazing, especially the Plantation Restaurant where we had some fantastic meals.
We tried the spa, too. We had an all-over body massage before the wedding and it really relaxed us. Judy, the wedding co-ordinator, made sure everything ran smoothly on our big day. They only have a few weddings there, so there is no conveyor belt treatment! It was just magical.
We hired a car for a few days and toured the island. The roads were very bendy and full of potholes (especially in the south of the island), but it was great to see what life was like outside the resort - even if the locals did keep trying to sell us drugs!
We had a great time at the jazz festival. We went by watertaxi from the Jalousie. Earth, Wind and Fire was performing - it was brilliant. All in all, it was an amazing holiday with many very precious memories. We will be back! |

The Jalousie Hilton was "the business"! Visited: May 2003 |

Our expectations for the Jalousie Hilton were very high, and I'm pleased to say that all of them were met, and in many cases exceeded.
Our stay was for seven nights in a Mountain View villa with the all-inclusive meal plan. The hotel staff was friendly and attentive the staff. Sure, the views were all very nice, but unless you feel welcome, your experience will be unrewarding.
Everyone from the staff in the Plantation restaurant and the ladies in the beach restaurant to the maids and pool cleaners were very friendly and seemed to be genuinely pleased that we had chosen to holiday in St. Lucia.
The food was of a very high standard. Although, you'd better be prepared for up to, and exceeding $50 per head for meals if you're not part of the meal plan. The rooms were superbly furnished (at least ours was) with attention to detail and nice touches like ornaments - which is rare in your corporate hotels.
If you're reading these reviews, you already know about the setting. Having arrived in the dark, I was very impressed when I woke up, looked out the window and saw the Pitons. My only small complaint was that given the size of the hotel, the actual areas to sit and relax were limited to the beach and the pool.
One last plea: given the calm and tranquility of this lovely hotel, please try and keep your whooping and hollering to a minimum as it ruins an otherwise very calming experience. Oh, and try and be nice to the staff as it will certainly be reciprocated.
Ignore the bad reviews. If you want a peaceful holiday in fantastic surroundings, then the Jalousie's the business. |

Exorbitant prices and poor food. Visited: March 2003 |

The rooms and property were absolutely beautiful. Most of the staff (excluding the restaurants?) was very nice and very helpful. Gillian was especially nice and truly tried to make our vacation enjoyable.
I have never paid such exorbitant prices for such horrible food in my life. The minimum meal cost $20 per person and was of a quality not even comparable to a Chili's, Applebee's etc. Along with the horrible, over-priced food (all restaurants at the resort) the restaurant staff was awful. I waited over 15 minutes for a refill on my water while I continually asked for another glass! This is completely unacceptable! Do yourself a favor and eat at Martha's Tables. I spent $20 on a cab ride back and forth and actually got full. The Hilton won't even give you more garlic bread at their Pier Restaurant. I did not get full as a result of any of their meals. It was a complete rip off and ruined my stay there.
Also, the Hilton takes a cut of the taxi fare (minimum $15 anywhere you go), so do not use them to get a ride. Get a taxi driver's card and call him directly.
I was so frustrated with the food, service, and exorbitant prices that I even tried to change my 6-night stay to 3 nights. Unfortunately, I couldn't.
I was extremely disappointed with Hilton. If you have guests paying $400 a night and $100 per meal then they should not have a single complaint let alone a complaint at every meal. I would recommend staying away from this hotel due to exorbitant prices and poor food. |

If you're looking to escape form the craziness of everyday life, this is the place!
Although the resort does not compare with the five-star ambiance of the paradise offered in the Asian retreats found in Bali or Phuket, the Hilton St. Lucia is not a 36-hour plane ride away.
Don't get me wrong, we had an amazing and relaxing vacation and would unquestionably go back. However, this was no Four-Seasons or Ritz Carlton. This resort was an excellent getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city with the amazing peaceful beauty offered by the beautiful Caribbean sea and calming surroundings.
Without question, take the helicopter ride in, it was an exciting seven-minute hop versus a 1.5-hour winding car ride, one you want to avoid after a long flight in.
I would however suggest taking the cab ride back as it will give you a chance to see a bit of the island as you ride through various villages and get a glimpse of everyday island life. The other alternative was a water-taxi ride which could be equally as enjoyable, sans the dizzying roads.
Note to the budget traveler, activities and everything else on this retreat was not cheap! You could stock your fridge up by taking a trip into town. If you're looking for a ride into town or a half day/day tour of the island, book a taxi directly versus going through the hotel travel desk.
The guy to call was definitely Walter. While we did book everything through the travel desk/concierge, we realized later that having booked Walter directly would have been half the price. He was an amazing and trustworthy guide who was friendly and eager to please.
We booked Walter through the hotel for a half day tour of the island, which was a must - rainforest, Volcano, Castries, etc. We later booked Walter directly to drive us to the airport and get our last minute shopping done.
All in all, this was a fun trip. Again, this was the best resort on the island. The villas were large and spacious, and the people were very friendly. This was not your average over-commercialized Bahamas-style resort. The Hilton was quiet, relaxing and a vacation for the realities of your 9-to-5. |

The Jalousie is situated in one of the most beautiful locations you could imagine. The grounds are superb and accommodations are excellent. The restaurants and food are only average - but satisfactory.
Yes, it is pricy, but you pay for the ambience and location. We stayed in oceanview suite. We had plenty of room and seclusion. However, we did get frog visitors.
Watching the humming birds by our plunge pool was special. This resort is excellent for relaxation and catering as much for those who value their independence and privacy as those who like their vacations organized like a summer camp. |

We had a really great time at Jalousie. We had planned to go to Anse Chastanet up and until about a month before our trip, and we think we made the right choice. We visited Anse Chastanet while we were here and it didn't compare to Jalousie.
Jalousie was really beautiful, the food was good (not great) and people were very pleasant. The villas were very nice and the waterviews and mountain views were spectacular. There were lots of things to do by boat, also.
The specialty nights were okay; but not anything special. It was a good change of pace, though. The helicopter ride was fun, although the taxi drive wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. We went each way once.
Dasheen was very nice with a great view. The Bang was okay but nothing special. It was right next to the Jalousie.
All and all, it was a great vacation spot and we'll probably go back again. it was the best spot we have visited in the Caribbean so far. |

My husband and I returned from a week at the Jalousie Hilton; what a wonderful trip. It didn't hurt that we had 22 inches of snow back home!
The resort was more beautiful than any pictures we had seen. We took other's advice and went in via helicopter. What a beautiful view.
Our villa (#307) was perfect. We enjoyed the meals and entertainment and also tried Dasheen (wonderful) and took a water taxi to Castries. (Had fun bartering for gifts.) We spent many relaxing hours on the beach, swimming, snorkeling and walked through the resort; despite the hills. The flowers were so pretty.
I enjoyed the spa and the morning stretch class and water aerobics during the week. All the people we encountered were great; taxi cab drivers, staff at Hilton, etc. The mix of visitors from all over the world made it very enjoyable to talk to others staying during the week.
We enjoyed taking the cab back to the airport so we could see more of the countryside. The roads weren't that bad. And what a gentle and kind people we met all during our stay.
A little tip - take a trip to a market and get some food for your fridge. We didn't feel like eating all our meals out, so sometimes a small meal was perfect. The fridge in the room was very convenient for this. We are already trying to figure out when we can come back. Definitely a 'well kept secret'. |

My boyfriend, my kids and I spent a weekend at the Jalousie and it was wonderful. We had one of the largest rooms, which had a large plunge pool. This room was not connected to any other and had a great view of the ocean.
Jalousie was recommended by a family member who said that they had an excellent time when they visited. Our kids loved the kids' center. What they enjoyed most was the kids night, with movie and dinner at the Jwen Sa Mula.
The staff was helpful in every way, nothing was to much to do. Victorius at breakfast, Leon at the bar, Anice from reception, and Vilma from the Kids club were particularly nice.
Places you must are the botanical gardens, sulphur springs, and ladera.
Also, if you are looking for good St. lucian cooking, ask for Heavy D. Taxi and he will take you to Martha's table not to far from the hotel. |

A secluded resort vacation, but expensive food! Visited: November 2002 |

My husband and I spent our anniversary at the Hilton in St. Lucia. It was off the beaten path and not very touristy, which was a nice feature.
The cottages were set in the mountains, and the landscaping was lush and tropical. The beach was small, but beautiful and was big enough for the guests. Water sports were nearby, and the pool was refreshing.
The cottages were cozy, although we were a little disappointed in the "details", considering that the resort had just undergone a renovation (stains on the couches, the blinds had a missing piece, etc). It was a nice resort, but not the nicest we've stayed in for the price range.
Our biggest disappointment was the food. The restaurants were overpriced. For example, there was only one option for breakfast: the buffet, which was $16 per person. And that was the best value for meals! It certainly was not a good value for the food.
I would recommend that visitors take a taxi to the local grocery mart or visit a store after leaving the airport and bring food to eat in the room for some meals. (There was a mini-refrigerator in the room.)
The Plantation Room had very good food (although pricy), and Dasheene Restaurant (off-site) was very good as well. Our best meal was up in Castries at the Coal Pot. The shrimp and lobster were great and the ambiance was so relaxing. We received great service at the restaurants and the resort.
Everyone was very accommodating and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay comfortable. We took a rainforest walk with Ricky Alexander, who gave "Environmental Presentations" at the hotel, and that was worth our time. The street party on Friday night in Gros Islet was also fun.
If you're going to the craft market in Castries, it should be noted that it closes by 5:00 pm in the afternoon. Also, be prepared for delays and possible over-booking of flights out of St. Lucia. |
