5.0 stars This was a beautiful spot on a beautiful island. Visited: May 2005

We stayed in the Orchid for five nights from May 3rd through 8th. We had awesome views and vistas, and were very comfortable. Meals were outstanding (if you love bananas, you need to have the Banana Jelly). Also, the staff was very helfpul and friendly.

Without a doubt I would come back here and probably will in the near future. Hopefully, they will add a few more shuttles and expand the resort closer to the beach in the future.

One thing I would mention. If anyone reccomends "Bang" to you - skip it. It was a ripoff, and the only thing I would have done differently on the whole trip.

We loved the accommodations and staff at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. Every member of their staff made us feel right at home and helped with any inquiries we had.

We particularly loved the staff of their restaurant, The Mango Tree. They were friendly, friendly and more friendly. Side trips to different sights on the island were easily arranged. We stayed in Casaurina Villa, which had awesome views of the Pitons, as well as ocean views.

The villas were set in old plantation grounds with the most exquisite tropical landscape one could imagine. Also, we rented a car and toured the island, and this part of the island was the most beautiful by far.

It was quiet, relaxing and beautiful beyond words. We will return to Stonefield and encourage anyone who wants a relaxing, beautiful place to stay, to make your reservations here.

We can't say enough good things about our stay here. If you decide to go to St. Lucia, make the Stonefield Estate Villa Resorts the place you choose to stay.

4.0 stars Stonefield offered a great location at a great value - we didn't want to leave! Visited: November 2004

My sister and I returned a week ago from a lovely three-day stay at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort.

We found Stonefield on the internet, and found that they had some of the best rates, most interesting rooms, and fantastic views of the pitons. When we arrived we were not disappointed.

Having had trouble making to the island because of issues with our plane, we were a little worried if our transfer would be waiting at the airport. We had arranged this through Stonefield. No problems there - they tracked our flight and made sure they were there to pick us up when we arrived. The taxi ride really was an hour and a half, through very wild, tropical landscape - a distance of only 26 miles. It was some of the most beautiful, wild places I've ever seen. ($80 for the transfer)

Knowing that we'd be arriving late (although we had no idea just how late we would end up arriving!), we arranged through Stonefield to have some meat, cheese, bottled water and bread stocked in our fridge for our arrival. As soon as we'd checked the place out we sat down for a lovely midnight snack (our dinner) serenaded by a chorus of tree frogs.

Then we slipped into bed, a lovely high king bed, lovely hand-carved four-poster bed encased by mosquito-netting. Very simple decor. The room had high timbered ceilings with a fan, a small kitchen area, and the windows were thickly shuttered and had screens to keep out the little buggies.

It was nicely private. High fences in the right spots lent themselves to the ultimate privacy; leaving open the view of ocean and Petit Piton.

The housekeeping staff was exceedingly efficient and discreet. We never saw them. The office staff was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend utilizing shuttle service to the Jalousie Hilton. Although close, I would not recommend walking there unless you're in the mood for a good hike.

The Mango Tree Restaurant - great smells constantly wafted down the hill. Everything we had there was lovely. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We had a great, great view! There was live music on Saturday night - very nice. Try the Cocoa Tea. It is a unique experience if you've never had it. Yum!

The atmosphere at the restaurant was nice, and the trees were close enough to hear the tree frogs in the evening. If you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of small lizards chasing moths. And during the day, birds flit through the dining room.

Stonefield Estate Villa is not for everyone. Make sure you do your homework first. If you must have phone, tv, room service and air-conditioning you may not like it here.

My sister and I agree that this was the best place we've ever stayed. We really didn't want to leave. This is our "room with a view".

This is the place in St. Lucia! The villas are excellent with perfect views of the Caribbean and Petit Piton, from everywhere on the property.

We had a private plunge pool, which was a must since there was no beach on sight. And it added to the privacy by not having to go to the main pool, which was very nice, also. Bugs were not an issue, the night sounds were incredible.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the management went out of their way to make guests comfortable. We wanted to see the lighthouse prior to flying home, and they were nice enough to have Albert (Yellow) take us there after dropping off some other guests at the airport, and then he drove us back for our flight. It was very nice service.

And the views were the best on the island! We were looking at a time share purchase in Marigot Bay, but it was no comparison to Stonefield so we declined the offer. We have been to Curacao, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas and Hawaii and next to Molakai Hawaii - this is the place. We will be going back to St. Lucia and Stonefield Estate.

5.0 stars This was a truly extraordinary place that was beyond my expectations. Visited: September 2004

We have traveled quite often in the Caribbean, and I don't think any other place beats St. Lucia. There may be a couple of islands with more beaches, but this island more than makes up for it, with an open volcano, scuba, gardens, etc.

We checked into a one-bedroom deluxe at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort....wow. The view from this georgeous villa, the ocean and the magnificent petit piton, was incredible. What's more, was that it was totally private. There was no one next door to listen to.

When you spend this much time looking for a hotel and it exceeds your expectations, you know you have made the right choice. We woke up the next morning to birds singing and buzzing around us. The whole resort was so naturally contoured with each villa having their own privacy.

Swinging in our hammock sipping cocktails made our stay. The garden showers were a different experience....seeing the moon from our shower really made us wonder why we would want to go back home. This was true paradise.

The villa was exactly what we saw on the website and all the information was true, too. Oh, and if you think the pictures on the website may be over the top, think again. They did not do the place justice. Pictures cannot begin to describe this place.

The staff was really friendly. And the restaurant, The Mango Tree, was breathtaking. We felt really special - like it was all done up for us and us only.

Staying in a small hotel was definitely the way to go. We wanted to explore other hotels simply to confirm to ourselves that we did in fact choose the right place. We visited the Hilton, Ladera and TiKaye, and we decided Stonefield was it.

We must admit though, from a critical stand point, that Stonefield was not on a beach. However, the resort did have shuttles as advertised, which took guests there three times a day with return at good intervals, so it worked out great. What was better was that we got snorkeling equipment free as we stayed at Stonefield.

Even without a beach, I would definitely go back there. I highly recommend it to everyone.

My best friend and I decided to go away on vacation together to St. Lucia, and we decided to stay at Stonefield, where we had a villa with two bedrooms. Soon as we went into the villa we both looked at each other and said "Wow". It was way nicer than either of our homes, and bigger too. We had two verandahs, we each had our own outside shower and a big living room and kitchen. We spent our vacation chatting, doing some sightseeing, suntanning, eating at the villas' restaurant (and partaking of many of their cocktails, which are really much better than the watered down stuff that passes for drinks in bars and restos up here). It was a great way for us to catch up, we both have stressful jobs and haven't spent much time together in the last few years. Anyhow, it was a great trip and if you go to St. Lucia you should definitely stay there.

4.0 stars I want to go back - now! Visited: April 2004

After lots of research, we chose this location to get married in April 2004. We arrived at the airport and the hotel driver was kind enough to stop at the local grocery and help us shop a little since we were staying for ten days.

Then, we drove what seemed like forever on these incredibly bumpy roads, through the small town of Soufriere and finally to our villa at Stonefield. We were anticipating to be let down as everything in planning for our wedding had gone way too easy!

Our communication with Shanna and Francesca at the hotel was perfect (Shanna is the wedding coordinator). The website was so good that we almost thought everything had been touched up in some form or fashion! Here is the great news.. this place was better than we could have anticipated.

We stayed in the Plantation House, with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a formal dining room that seated ten easily. It also overlooked the bay and the pool, had a private full size swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen (even a blender!), flowers and mangos everywhere, pet lizards by the pool, a huge TV (never had time to use it), stereo system, VCR, five-disk CD changer, and no phone - which was just perfect!

They also had a shuttle to the beach as it was easy to walk down to the local beach, but the walk back could hurt you! It was very steep terrain and, though we did not use the public beach, we heard it was not very clean.

The shuttle took guests to the Hilton where you could access their beach. Guests also had use of all the snorkeling equipment for the wonderful coral garden at the bottom of the Petit Piton Mountain, which separated Stonefield from the Hilton. Guests could purchase food at the Hilton, but must pay cash (or credit card).

The Mango Tree was good, and on most nights they had entertainment. They seemed to try and accommodate guests for whatever the needs were. The service was relatively slow, but hey, you are on the most beautiful island with the most incredible views, what’s the hurry anyway? It helps you get on island time.

Please remember, there is no air conditioning and the accommodations only have plantation shutters. There are lizards (never saw any in the bedroom), bugs and birds would fly through the kitchen and living room. We made the mistake of leaving some food items on the counter and thought they would be taken away by all the small ants that attacked it! We learned that every food item must be put in the refrigerator or in the oven for safekeeping.

We loved this place and have plans to return soon! It was the most relaxing vacation in that we could do tons of sight seeing or absolutely nothing at all but stay by the pool or beach and you don’t feel like you missed out!

Stonefield Estate is highly recommended, highly missed!

5.0 stars Stonefield Estate Villa Resort was truly Paradise! Visited: December 2003
Posted by nicolacozier
We just returned from the most fabulous vacation at Stonefield Resort.

Our villa was amazing! It was an ocean view that had lots of room and a fabulous outdoor garden shower. The incredible view from our large porch was of Petit Piton (a landmark mountain) and the sea; especially when being enjoyed on our hammock that actually took the two of us.

We would spend our days lazing by the pool which also had the most amazing view - it was similar to the one from our villa. We did tours to the rainforest, visited the volcano and swam in a waterfall.

Dining would sometimes be either in our villa where we would dine on our porch, or sometimes we would go to the Mango Tree Restaurant (it was actually on the property). The food there was great – really tasty. They had a lovely local band that played on BBQ night – but they needed reservations to get them there, so it was worth booking. The prices were in US, but they used the bank rate to convert it. Oh, and the sunsets we enjoyed whilst sipping on rum punches were just storybook perfect.

Mosquitoes and insects were not really a problem as we expected, and in any case there was netting around our villa and the four poster bed had a mosquito net.

The resort was nestled into the mountainside which made us feel that we were in our very own tropical paradise. Around the property were local flowers, trees and vegetation. There was no beach, but some excellent beaches for swimming and snorkeling were close by. A complimentary shuttle was provided and snorkeling gear could be obtained at no extra cost. There was even a parrot named Abdul. The staff was always very helpful and friendly.

The general manager showed us around the property explaining some of the history about the estate. He showed us the new villas with private pool that were just completed at the beginning of December. They were fabulous. I think we will consider this the next time we stay here.

We planned this holiday in the hope of total relaxation and to experience something new. We visited their website and after reading about it and seeing the pictures, we decided to book. Stonefield Estate Villa Resort definitely exceeded all our expectations and more.

4.0 stars We were very pleased with our stay. Visited: December 2003

My husband and I were married on the front porch our gorgeous villa. Our view was of lush tropical trees and a background of the Pitons. The villa was open and even had an attached open shower. We loved this. It was the perfect way to relax in nature and just take time to look at our surroundings. When we were hungry, we were supplied with great food from the Mango Tree Inn and helped by the staff with endeavors we wished to pursue.

The beach nearby was not too difficult to get to unless you didn’t like taking hikes or warm weather. At the Joulise, you can arrange for free snorkeling for an adventure. It is a must to at least snorkel. We went scuba diving and could not beat the views at any of the other islands we visited.

Taking excursions with guides was expensive; however, it may be a toss up as to whether it’s worth it to do it yourself. The roads were very hard to handle, and if you are the driver, you miss the scenery (or fall off a cliff pretty much if you don’t watch the road). Also, you may get hassled less by any locals wishing to sell you guides and trinkets if you are accompanied by a guide.

Also, make sure to bring plenty of water as the days were hot and you may not run into places to purchase it all the time. ATMs were somewhat difficult to always find, so it’s best to plan ahead a day or two as to cash flow.

All in all, we were extremely pleased with our stay at Stonefield. This accommodation was our favorite out of the five hotels we were at while in the Caribbean.

5.0 stars The best vacation experience is at Stonefield Resort! Visited: November 2003
Posted by corplimo
My husband and I are both avid travelers, so when a friend recommended Stonefield Resort in St. Lucia we decided to make it our next stop.

We were amazed! From the moment we entered the resort property we felt like we were in paradise. The combination of lush greenery and bright tropical flowers was breathtaking. We were greeted by the hotel staff and shown our villa, a one-bedroom suite that was fully furnished with beautiful island decor.

One of the highlights of the villa was the enclosed outdoor shower. It was wonderful to shower in a natural environment with the warm air all around.

The view of the Pitons from any vantage point on the resort was incredible, our favorite was the view from our villa balcony. The villas were equipped with a fully functional kitchen which we used for breakfast or a light lunch. But most of the time we enjoyed our meals at the Mango Restaurant. The food and the service were impeccable. The menu changed regularly which allowed us to taste a wide range of Caribbean dishes.

The staff of Stonefield was very accommodating and made every moment of our week-long vacation stress free. Their knowledge of the island made our decisions regarding excursions very easy. We were extremely happy that we chose Stonefield Resort and recommend it to our friends as the perfect vacation experience.

5.0 stars Stonefield was the perfect place for a wedding. Visited: November 2003

I just got back from a week-long wedding/honetmoon at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. It was like a dream come true.

We went with an ocean view villa. We got a kitchen, a bedroom, living room, garden shower, and a huge porch with a hammock overlooking the Petit Piton (mountain) and sea. The view was so spectacular, we never wanted to leave.

The villas didn't have air conditioning, and the breeze came from celing fans and wooden slat windows with screens. We had a lizard or two in our villa, but bugs were really not a problem. Just bring insect repellant with you if you decide to do a rainforest tour or do some other type of hiking activity.

The resort was in the hills overlooking the ocean, so there wassn't a beach right off of the property. But they had a shuttle service which took guests to the Hilton next door which did have a beautiful beach. We loved it. It gave us a chance to experience two resorts. And if you are a diver like we are, you will like to know that the best diving is located in that area of St. Lucia, and the Hilton had a dive shop.

The only thing about Stonefield was that they didn't have air conditioning and the food service was slow. Plus, either you go with the shuttle times or pay for a taxi, which was expensive in St. Lucia.

Also, there wasn't any nightlife on that part of the island, so besides a live band playing at the resort two times a week, guests will have to take taxis to get to other resorts with things going on. We loved the peace and quiet, though.

The resort was family owned, and the personal attention we received was great. They knew our names after the first day. And I loved how the atmosphere of the resort made us feel like we were part of the beautiful nature surrounding us. We really got away from it all.

Plus, we got married here, and two hours before the ceremony, I was swimming in the pool. Talk about non-stressful. It was perfect.

Our staying at Stonefield was like living in paradise. The staff was so friendy and met our every need no matter what it was.

The food was delicious and everything tasted fresh - and the restaurant setting was peaceful, cool and with wonderful views.

My favorite was the outdoor shower at our villa - just delightful. The rooms were decorated to match the natural environment and were very spacious.

I can't wait to go back to Stonefield - we checked out the larger villas hoping to also go with extended family.

We stayed for seven nights at Stonefield and just loved it. The villas were great; our view was amazing and everything went really well.

Our meal plan was really complete and the variety was incredible. I would recommend this hotel for honeymooners and people wanting to rest. As another review reflected, this is not the ideal hotel for a beach holidays, but we found that with a beautifull pool and the free shuttles to the Hilton Beach, you can make the most of it.

This destination is a must to visit for everyone at least once in this lifetime. The people, the privacy, the food, the experience are all amazing.

I am not a world traveler, but I can bet that this is paradise on earth. I will forever keep my memories of this wonderful island in a place I visit within myself when I need to "get away".

We spent our honeymoon at our own villa at Stonefield, and the experience was nothing less than magical. The bliss of being in love added to our journey, but Stonefield Villas and Estates made our destination everything we had imagined.

The outdoor shower, the attention to detail, no phones, no television (this was actually a wonderful feature), and the friendly manner of everyone was much enjoyed. Many will soon catch on to this hidden treasure.

If you choose to experience paradise...make sure you say "hi" to the little dog Cocoa for us and give a hug to Jade, the new little baby of the couple who manage Stonefield. Once you stay here, you will always daydream about when you will return. No worries.

3.0 stars If you want a beach vacation, do not stay at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. Visited: July 2003

My husband I just returned from our honeymoon at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort in St. Lucia. The property is in a beautiful location, the pictures are true to life. We had a beautiful view from our villa, although it was not
the villa we originally were told we would have.

The pool is nice with an incredible view of the Petit Piton. Both the
pool and the restaurant were never crowded. We spent a lot of time in
the hammock on our large porch and at the pool.

We purchased a vacation package, which we now realize was a mistake.
Many of the excursions involved getting a ride to the location and being
dropped off (they are expensive excursions). You would be better off
if you rented a car and did the sightseeing yourself. Furthermore, the
hotel takes a percentage for anything they refer you to, so if you
arrange it yourself, it costs less.

If you want a beach vacation, do not stay at Stonefield. The beaches
were difficult and expensive to reach. The "close" local beach was
misrepresented as a short walk away; it is a grueling walk back to the
hotel up a steep incline. Also, the local beach, although secluded, is
rocky and you will be subject to harassment by the locals, which
happened to us. The daily shuttles to the beach are inconvenient, as you
have to go by the shuttle schedule, which is not necessarily when you want to leave. The shuttle takes you to the Jalousie Hilton, which charges
you $10 U.S. per beach chair. The taxi ride to the beach costs $10 each
way and it is expensive to eat at the Hilton, so the costs add up if
you go to the beach everyday (Hint: The food is less expensive if you
order on the beach than in the restaurant.)

We had numerous problems with bugs at Stonefield: gnats, mosquitoes,
fleas...The management "aired out" our mattress and room due to the
severity and frequency of the insect bites.

The massage was excellent, I highly recommend it. The management staff was friendly. The food is decent at the Mango Tree. Beware that the hotel quotes you in U.S. dollars and then converts it at a rate favorable to them, which could end up costing you extra.

Overall, we were disappointed by our trip to Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. It was a lot less than we had expected. We definitely would not return in the future.

4.0 stars This place was so relaxing! Visited: June 2003

My husband and I came on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. The island was beautiful.

Stonefield was perfectly situated to enjoy the views of the southern portion of the island. It was a bit more rustic than we were expecting. The open air resulted in lots of bugs in our room at night, which sometimes made us feel like we were simply upscale campers. However, it was worth it to feel the fabulous St. Lucia breezes and see the fantastic views.

The staff was very accommodating. We were in a one-bedroom villa and it was wonderful to not be stuck in just one hotel room. We spent most of our time on the hammock, making pina coladas in the blender they provided. Definitely, the kitchen was a big plus as restaurant food on St. Lucia was quite expensive.

The only downside of the Stonefield was the restaurant. Although the views were gorgeous and the restaurant was really cute, the food really fell short.

All in all, I would definitely recommend Stonefield. You certainly do not experience the luxury you would at other resorts, but considering the dramatic price difference between this place and others (not to mention the money you save by fixing your own drinks/cooking own meals once in awhile), it was definitely worth it. We had a perfect honeymoon here.

Although scenery from the patio was breathtaking, we experienced horrific bug- and spider-filled nights and awakened to consruction of new condos next door.

Spiders the size of tarantulas inhabited our bath towels, while moths the size of hummingbirds bounced around the ceiling in the evening with our lights on. This was going to be where I proposed, but my girlfriend (now wife) was so worried about the spider that crawled down her leg, we simply had to change locations.

We were charged a one-night penalty for switching, but it was well worth it.

My wife-to-be and I spent many months researching Caribbean resorts for our honeymoon. After visiting dozens of websites and chatting with travelers from all over the world, we chose Stonefield and we are so glad we did!

The resort was simply the most beautiful place we've ever seen--prettier than Bora Bora or Moorea, Hawaii, you name it.
The accommodations were huge, luxurious, tastefully decorated and wonderful. We could not believe what a bargain it is compared to many of the other places we considered.

The food was excellent, the views were superb, the staff was spot-on.
Our only complaint was that we can't live there forever.
