Heaven, St. Lucia traveler review
Heaven in Paradise Visited: June 2008 |

The roads to get to Heaven were awful - steep, narrow, and very bumpy. We used four wheel drive to get up the steep parts. Once on the top of the hill the view was spectacular. You could see all of Rodney Bay, Pigeon Island and the Northern end of St Lucia. At night you could see the lights of Martinique in the distance.
The villa was comfortable but hot. There was only one stand up fan in the living room. There was some breeze but the house was not designed to catch the breeze. The bedroom had great air conditioning! The pool was wonderful and the grounds beautiful. We got a tour and a tasting from the gardener - sour sop and jelly coconut as well as limes and other fruit.
Lydia was a sweetheart and made our stay extra special. She made a great lunch of pumpkin soup, shrimp and rice, and bread plant fritters.
Heaven is in a good location. Occasionally the noise from Smugglers Cove would drift up the hill. There were several beaches close by and Rodney Bay with shops and restaurants very close by. I would recommend getting a car since it is at the top of the hill. A taxi ride up and down into Rodney Bay was 70 ECs.

Coco Palm, St. Lucia traveler review
Great Hotels don't have to cost a lot Visited: June 2008 |

We arrived in St Lucia the same time as Virgin Air. 1.5 hours later we finished going through customs. Then we had the long drive north and got in rush hour traffic. We landed at 1:00 and arrived at the hotel at 5:30. It was a terrible introduction to St Lucia and we were exhausted.
Coco Palm quickly soothed away our weariness. It was adorable and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We had a great corner room with a view of the pool -worth spending a little more. Great air conditioning! The pool was wonderful especially in the evening when we had it to ourselves. It was nice to have a bar and restaurant on the property. The Pina Coladas were the best. We ate dinner and breakfast and enjoyed both. They had a tremendous Jazz band on Tuesday night out by the pool and the restaurant.
The hotel was in a great location. You could walk to Reduit Beach and great restaurants.
We love Coco Palm and highly recommend it. It was a great surprise!

Great experience Visited: June 2008 |

Four of us returned from 10 days of sailing in the Grenadines to Sunset. It was great to stop moving and have a full size house to move about. Desi picked us up at the airport and delivered us via very steep and bumpy roads. Very intimidating! The drive was worth it. Sunset's views were incredible - day and night – all of Rodney Bay and around to the Atlantic.
The house was comfortable with great open areas and a view from each window. Patricia was there to great us on her day off - which we appreciated - especially with the number of keys it took to unlock the doors.
The wind blew continually so you could always find a cool place. The bedrooms were air conditioned but not well - okay for sleeping.
Patricia was great and cooked breakfast and lunch. She even had dinner ready after our day of touring the island. It was a good chance to try island recipes.
We rented a car (delivered to the villa) and soon conquered the terrible roads. Road Harbor is very close and the car was great to have to go to the beach and the store.
Desi gave us a wonderful personal tour of the island and was always available to take us when we didn’t want to drive.
We had a wonderful experience and would return to Sunset.

Rendezvous, St. Lucia traveler review
It was an amazing experience. Visited: July 2008 |

I just returned from a week-long vacation with my boyfriend in St. Lucia, and we stayed at Rendezvous. I must admit, I can understand why some reviews I read rave about this place while others don't.
The true reason is, if you are looking for a posh hotel that wines and dines you and has six restaurants, this is not for you. Rendezvous has a relaxed atmosphere where you can come from the beach and grab dinner without changing.
All dining is steps away from the beach, and the food is good. Again though, you have to realize you will not be dining at a five-star restaurant.
The staff is friendly, and activities here are lots of fun. We would play volleyball with the other guests sometimes for three hours. I enjoyed the laid back, island feel to this resort, where you can drink and relax all day. Since that is what I expected when I came to Rendezvous resort, I loved it and would definitely return. |

Vicki was my personal tour guide. She was very accommodating. It was a very relaxing accommodation. Breakfast options provided included freshly squeezed juice from the tree outside, local fruits, and a good variety of options. Service was al fresco with a lovely view of the marina beyond the patio. |

Ladera Resort, St. Lucia traveler review
It was spectacular. Visited: May 2008 |

We spent the first two days of our honeymoon at Ladera. It was beautifully appointed, and the view was unbeatable. There were lots of honeymooning couples--some quite young, which surprised me.
They had good live music, although it started rather late in the evening. The food was excellent, and the service was superb. The spa was not a five-star, but the massage was pretty darn good!
Also, Dasheene Restaurant is the best on the island, so if you are wondering whether to choose the all-inclusive option - do it.
We would love to return and spend more time.

This was truly the most beautiful view in the Caribbean. Visited: May 2008 |

After spending the first two days of our honeymoon at the Ladera Resort next door, my husband and I spent five days at the villa. It was an amazing, well-appointed home with the most spectacular view you can imagine.
We had hoped that we would be able to cook for ourselves. That was not possible. While the kitchen was fully functional, the grocery store in Soufreire offered little in the way of food you would want to cook while on vacation (seafood, meat, fresh vegetables, or fruits).
The property manager turned us on to the farmers' co-op which was close by, and open on Tuesday afternoons. We were able to buy some fruits and veggies there. However, because there were limited groceries, we were not able to cook as much as we had hoped. At the grocery, expect to be able to buy milk, juice, eggs, cheddar cheese, crackers...just the basics.
We didn't have the same experience with the caretaker couple that others have. We saw Fabrice the day we arrived and the morning we left.
Shaka came to cleanup the house every morning. She cooked breakfast on a couple of mornings and it was fine, but her repertoire is very limited. We tried to teach her how to make an omelette, for example. She was perfectly nice, but not all that much help with directions, information, or food.
While the Jalousie beach was closer, we preferred the Anse Chastenet beach -- food and drinks were much better. There were no piton views, however.
We will return, but with more realistic expectations. |

Zandoli, St. Lucia traveler review
The negative outweighs the positive here. Visited: May 2008 |

They have a beautiful view from the deck, and spacious open floor plan.
However, be aware that road access is treacherous. The road is very steep in places, and completely covered with large rocks and deep ruts. It knocked a hole in the underside of my rental car.
Also, the driveway to the house is a 45-degree angle down with a hairpin turn. The house is not fully screened, so mosquitoes are a big problem inside.
In addition, it has southern exposure, and there is no AC anywhere in the house. It is difficult, but not impossible, to walk to the beach.
WhereToStay.com comment: Mia, I wish you had rented with us as we only let our clients arrive in 4WD cars at Zandoli. People often love the seclusion and the road is not problem in the appropriate vehicle. Our rental agents always note that this villa is very open. It has a beautiful design with amazing views but as there is no AC its not for everyone. |

We got married at Crystals. The place was charming - the kind you can't get at the Marriott if you follow me (been to one, been to them all).
Monica and Martin and the girls couldn't have been nicer, more helpful or more fun.
If you go, rent a car. The roads are rugged, but you must drive the island. And, if Monica recommends somewhere or makes a face when you mention it, listen to her.
Some places on the island rated highly, and just didn't deserve it. If you can, stay in the villa - it's the most perfect setting I have yet to see. |

We had heard great things about Windjammer Landing. However, when we got here, we ran into some problems.
1. Travelers cheques: We booked through Expedia, and decided to pay the all-inclusive with travelers cheques in person. It seems St. Lucian banks give businesses a hard time if the signature is not spot on.
I don't know about you, but not every single one of my signatures look identical - especially when you're signing 24 pieces of paper in one sitting. So, Windjammer scrutinized every pen stroke to match signatures. It took an hour and a half just to check in! Use a credit card or cash!
2. Comfort: It was just too rustic. If you are in for the night and want to watch some TV before dozing off - forget it. The TV was in the living area where there was no AC. So, it was too hot. Also, there were holes in the walls, so bugs and creatures you only see on the Discovery Channel can come into your villa. Insect repellent is a must!
3. Accessibility and convenience: The resort was on a mountainside, and was beautiful. However, it was slightly annoying having to call a shuttle for pick up just to go eat, and then get taken back to the villa. Unless you are in excellent shape, trying to walk up and down steep hills could put you in the hospital!
4. The food: I have had better food at IHOP. There was not much local cuisine available.
5. Packages: We found that all-inclusive was not worth it. If you aren't a heavy drinker, and not big on water sports - don't get it.
However, all in all, the country and the people were beautiful. We won't be going back any time soon, though. |

The Palm Haven Hotel was very accommodating, and guest services was very welcoming.
It was in a great location across from the Rodney Bay Marina, therefore the market and beach is a short distance away.
The hotel was very clean, and I felt very comfortable and relaxed throughout my stay! |

We just returned from a week’s stay at BodyHoliday. We loved everything about the resort, and tried to take advantage of all they had to offer, but that was impossible.
we tried: scuba shore dive, tubing, sailing lesson, snorkeling, and many workout classes (body stretch, body burn, yoga, meditation, tai chi, body circuits, body attack, martial fun, pilates). We also tried all the included spa treatments, intro to golf, intro to archery, and morning walks.
The spa treatments were pre-scheduled. You can change them, but it is difficult. It worked well for us. We also had time to relax on the beach and at the pool and catch some rays.
The resort lagoon had its own reef that was also used by the Sandals resort. We saw octopus, rockfish, flounder, moray eels, squid, and numerous varieties of fish and coral.
We loved the food at Deli, Cariblue and Tao especially. Cariblue had great breakfast and lunch buffets with many options. Book at Tao early, as it fills up fast. We never tried an entrée that cost extra, as we found the included selections to be enough.
A very few of the entrees on the Cariblue menu were just so, so; but, it was obvious that they would have brought another for us if it wasn’t to our taste as the service was excellent. We always found we had plenty to eat, and this wasn’t necessary.
We got a renovated room and we were very pleased. The mattress comfort was okay, and furniture selection was not well thought out. The leather cushions were nice to look at, but not all that comfortable.
The grounds were gorgeous. |

Crystals, St. Lucia traveler review
We had a refreshing tropical adventure at Crystals. Visited: April 2008 |

This was not our first time at Crystals, but our first to write in a review. We thought we should share our memories with others who are looking for: adventure, relaxiation, a unique experience, and St. Lucian hospitality.
No, we are not family members - but we feel we are, and for sure we have been to Crystals enough times that perhaps looking into building our own holiday home here.
St. Lucia is a marvelous island, and Soufriere is (in my view) the only part to be in. It is unspoiled. To some, this is off putting perhaps - but for us, it is perfect.
There is no factory here, no large supermarkets, motor ways, or signs. However, there is great fresh air, and there are great people(when you get to know them). Life is slow, and we love it.
Crystals captures part of this life, and yet the cottages are very comfortable and unique. The staff, from the security to Monica and Martin, are all friendly.
This is the only place I would stay. There are things to do, too. We loved the day sail, the piton hike, and the rain forest.
As for resturants - we cooked in most of the time, but liked the Mango Tree at Stonefield. Enjoy |

The pictures on the Internet are wonderful, but when you get here and walk in it actually takes your breath away. The beauty of the house and the view of the Pitons from every room was fabulous.
The staff was wonderful, too. We all felt like we had known them for years. Then, having to leave it felt like we were moving away from family.
Shermaine's cooking was absolutely the best. When we got here, she had cooked us dinner even though we didn't ask for it. Don't go out to eat - let her cook! All of her dishes were wonderful, and full of flavor.
Catherine, the housekeeper, kept the house clean and fresh. She decorated our beds each night with flower designs.
And Casey - what a happy person! I think he had us laughing just as much as we had him laughing. He climbed a coconut tree for us - which was amazing to see. And with no shoes on! He just climbed right on up like the tree had stairs. They all said how much fun they had with us, and that they were truly going to miss us.
The construction next door really wasn't a problem. They did wake us up in the morning, but I really didn't care because I don't want to waste my time on vacation sleeping anyway. Besides, these are island people, and they work slow and take lots of breaks.
All in all, it was an amazing vacation. The house, staff and the island were fantastic. I will miss Shermaine, Catherine and Casey. The house was perfect, and they made it even more perfect.
And thanks, again, to Shawna. I will be sure to use your web site again! |

I suggest you stay away, as we were harassed and had our money stolen.
Also, the room we were staying in had mice in it. In the middle of the night, they came in and ate the bits that we had left out in the kitchenette.
I do not advise you to come here, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Please stay away.

At first, this place seemed nice - people and all. However, in a short while, I realized this woman, Sheryl Skeete, seemed to have an attitude problem (and a money allocation problem).
We had a long stay here (six months). During that time, we couldn't get a warm (let alone hot) shower - that was until a hotel reviewer came to stay for a couple of days. When the water warmed up, the light came on!
We then found we had been charged for her electric bill for six months. Our bill was considerably lower when we found out about it ($1,200 lower). We found that information out through the electric company. When she learned of this, she promptly evicted us and kept our damage deposit.
The place was cramped, and the plunge pool never warmed up. However, it would be a good place to keep your drink cold!
Buyer beware! |

Crystals, St. Lucia traveler review
This was our honeymoon dream. Visited: March 2008 |

Our stay was just wonderful. We had spent nights over the Internet looking for that special hotel, and quite by accident came across Where to Stay. This is a great site, I must say it helped us find Crystals.
First, I have to say the Crystals site was nothing like the property. I agree with other reviews sent in. This property's only problem is the site they have. In fact, I asked Monica why she does not get a better one. She said she agreed, but for now they do not have a problem with booking, as most is word of mouth anyway.
This property is not for everyone. If you like nature and camping, you will love Crystals. If you are the type who is picky, you will not.
Do not think this property is primitive - far from it. The cottages and villas are superb. It's just that you are in the rain forest.
For us, it was wonderful. We split our stay between two cottages - both were great.
I enjoyed the use of the jeep, and this I agree is a must. First of all, you save on the taxi rates, which cost a small fortune. Second, you are free to tour the island. We went up to the Cap Rodney Bay area and down the the south Labourie. I came to the conclusion the Soufriere area is far the better. It is lush, and less populated - and of course, there's Crystals.
We love to walk, so we did the rain forest, the Gros Piton, and the waterfalls. It was a great stay. Cheers to all at Crystals, and a special thanks to Arlette and Monica. |

The house had really great potential - the views were absolutely amazing. Furnishings weren't really top of the line, but it was big and spacious (giant kitchen) and we lived on the long great porch. The master bedroom was excellent, though.
We enjoyed ourselves overall. The pool was great, and Dragon kept it spotless. The house was comfortable. It was not a five-star, experience, but it was a very nice week. |
