Q: We are trying to choose between the Sonesta Maho and the Great Bay in St. Martin. I am having a hard time making up my mind. There seems to be alot of negative reviews about both. Have you been to these resorts, Appreciate any help you can give me. We have gone to the Almond Beach Village in Barbados for the past five years and have loved it. No I am getting nervous about going to ST. Martin and wondering if we should just go back to Barbados. Thanks Answer

A: Great Bay has a great beach and is close to Philpsburg(walking distance). Lots of activity in town and at resort.
Sonesta Maho is nice but you need to ensure that you get to stay in the newer tower. The older rooms are not as nice. If you want a direct beach on the ocean, this is questionable. The pool area is great. Maho offers a lot of entertainment and shopping but it can be very noisy with the jets flying in and the late night beach bar music. We just recently stayed in the Sonesta for 1 night due to a flight cancellation. Didn't get much sleep due to the noise.

A: I've stayed 2 times at The Great Bay Beach Resort and love it due to the close walking distance of town with shopping and great restaurants. I work for an airline and many families I know stay at Maho - Great Bay Resort was VERY quiet the 2 times I went. Love it!

A: Either of those hotels would be fine, but if you are expecting the same quality of experience that you have had in Barbados you will be disappointed. Barbados is more developed and has better quality of service than you will find in St. Maarten.
