We encountered major beach erosion during our stay in March 2008. Visited: March 2008 |

The beach was washed away in the March storms. I suggest you check the status before booking here if you want to spend any time at the beach.
Our stay was not very enjoyable. We stayed one night before/after our other accommodations were available.
Apparently, it is key to be in a remodeled room, which we were not. Our room, in the main building, fifth floor, was very dated and not comfortable at all.
I would not recommend this to anyone looking for beach time or a "resort" feel.
One positive aspect was that it was close to countless wonderful restaurants. |

This property is in the process of being renovated, and the improvements are great!
Make sure you get a Premier Ocean View, and that you don't overlook the back of the hotel - bad view there.
We had great views and a great time. We went all-inclusive, and enjoyed it! It was definitely worth the price! |

This is a nice resort, but some of the property was not open.
The staff was a little rude, and the food was not fabulous. We were glad we didn't do all inclusive.
It's in a good location, and the room was excellent, though. We would return. |

We have been to the Maho eight times in four years. We enjoy it very much. Every resort has its downfalls, and you have to make the best of it. We have had our issues with the Maho, but it always seems to work out. I have not met one person on these trips who had a terrible time - maybe a little disappointed, but you can't please everyone.
The island was great, the service and the food were good, as was the staff. Sometimes the attitude of a guest sets the mood of a staff member, like a bad day at work. Get over it, and have fun. It will work out.
Watch the planes, go to Phillipsburg, rent a car, and have fun. We're going back! |

This is a beautiful resort. Visited: May 2005 |

A group of eight of us stayed at this resort for the first week of May. We found it to be very clean, and the staff was wonderful. Also, the food was great and a wide selection of food was available. The drinks were fabulous and beautiful in presentation.
The swimming pool was wonderful, and the beach was lovely. Although the beach front was limited, the water was warm, clear and so inviting.
If you want the excitement of seeing airplanes flying close to you and hearing the roar of the engines - this is the place to be. In no way did we find it to be too noisy. People often just stopped by the end of the runway waiting for planes to land or take off.
The hotel staff (in all areas of this resort) was very accommodating and pleasant. Of course, we were polite and courteous at all times treating them with the respect that they deserved. We found the hotel was definitely a four-star or a four and a half-star rating.
This resort was large, and I must admit I prefer staying at a smaller resort - but each to their own. We all enjoyed our stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend this location or facility to anyone. How could you not enjoy your stay here. Enjoy!

They provided excellent rooms. Visited: March 2005 |

I stayed in room #412 with an excellent ocean view and a good view of the airport (which I wanted).
The staff at Ocean Terrace Restaurant was wonderful and pleasant. In fact, I took some pictures of them and wish to e-mail the photos to the staff. However, I cannot locate an e-mail address for the resort.
One negative aspect worth mentioning was that there was a bar located right near the airport which played extremely loud and annoying music with a very loud bass which thumped until 5:00 am. Not only did the music prevent me from getting much sleep, the lyrics of some of the rap music were filthy "F" words and swearing. |

DISAPPOINTING Visited: January 2005 |

We found the Maho to be a little bit disapponitng. Rain 4 out of 7 days is something that they can not control obviously but was a bit of let down. The thing we found most disconcerting was the basically miserable nature of most of the staff.
Wait staff in the morning was slow and very unmotivated to serve. The people making ommelletes were nothing short of miserable. No matter how pleasant we were with them we could not get more than a grunt from any of them.
Bar tenders were just as bad, simply pointing at you when they felt like serving you. I dont know why but I left a tip for them every time I was finally served and not once did any of them even say thank you. There is no escuse for that kind of behaviour.
Some of the front desk staff did try to be helpfull but others brushed you off with a "I'll call your room with the answer" which of course never came.
Food in the entire hotel was very good in all the restaurants, with The Pointe being well above average. By the way, we loved the aircraft traffic and found it to be highly entertaining. Pity, because after the way were treated we are never going back. As an aside, if you are not into casinos or the bar scene there is not a tremendous amount to do there once the sun goes down and there is no entertainment other than the casino which has a "revue" type of show. the night we attended there were 20 people in the audience and a lot of them left before it was over. |

The location right under the runway of the airport made this hotel uninhabitable. We did not go to the pool once. We rented a car and relaxed on parts of the island that weren't smogged with gas fumes. |

I visited St. Maarten for the first time in January of 2004, and I stayed at the Maho Beach Hotel and Casino. I loved every day I spent here, and I was here for two weeks! It felt like a home away from home.
The room was clean, breakfast was terrific, the people were very nice. I would recommend Maho to anyone who is traveling to St. Maarten and I can safely say that I know you will enjoy it.
I am preparing to visit St. Maarten in November of this year, and guess what, I will be staying at no other place than at Maho Hotel. Give it a try - it's great!

Maho Beach - A great place to watch planes and not much else. Visited: January 2004 |
| Posted by johnwwfh |

The travel agent asked us if we minded the occasional airplane. She said that the Maho was close to the airport. We told her we were okay with the occasional plane. I did not understand that occasional meant every five minutes.
The brochure showed a marvellous white sand beach. What it didn't show was that it was directly beneath the runway. There was no useable beach!
The good news was there were a couple of nightclubs within walking distance. The bad news was that they partied until 4 in the morning. Good luck trying to sleep with the constant thump, thump, thump of the bass.
The staff was courteous, and the food was okay.
If you are looking to party until 3 or 4 in the morning and like to live under airport, then this is the perfect place for you. |

We had a great vacation - again! Visited: October 2003 |

We just returned from our second trip to Maho Beach Resort and it was great - again. We were happy to see that two of their restaurants were opened this time and they were very good. I hope they stay open.
The grounds were very clean, as were the rooms. And the pools were beautiful. Watching the planes take off and land was always fun to do. Cherries, across the street, always put on a great show. The shopping was great, too. The people, for the most part, were friendly.
The Paris Bistro was a nice place to eat and was just around the corner. The beaches were nice and there were 30 to choose from. There was so much to do in St. Maarten, we couldn't go wrong. We hope to go back again soon. |

The Maho was wonderful! Visited: August 2003 |

My husband and I just returned from our wonderful vacation in St. Maarten where we stayed at the Maho Beach Resort and Casino. We have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and therefore feel that we can provide a fair objective review.
In a nutshell…the food was very good for all-inclusive resort food (three restaurants onsite and many more just outside the main doors), and the drinks were the best we’ve ever had. The daiquiris were just amazing.
Maho beach itself was just okay (better in Cuba and Jamaica), but there were many fabulous beaches just a short walk or drive away. The rooms were fine. They were nothing fancy, but then again, we only used them to sleep, get ready in and store our stuff.
The staff was not as bad as most people have indicated in previous reviews. In fact, for the most part, they were extremely friendly…remember to smile and be nice and you’ll get the same in return. The front desk staff and the activities desk staff were extremely helpful with any concern that we may have had.
Overall, the resort was very nice…everything was clean. It did not feel like a resort in Dominican Republic or Cuba as there were not daily activities going on in the pool or on the beach.
St. Maarten is an island that is meant to be explored. Rent a car and see it for yourself as we did. You will love it. The Maho Beach Resort and Casino was by far one of the finest and nicest hotels on the island. You will enjoy it if you have an open mind and don’t come here expecting too much! |

A very nice island and resort. Visited: June 2003 |

The Maho Beach Hotel and Casino was a beautiful resort on a very special Caribbean island.
The hotel was situated close to the airport and so there were some great photgraphs of planes coming in for landing to be taken. The noise was not bothersome as one might think.
The food was not bad for an all-inclusive plan. We did receive a voucher to go to one of the nicer restaurants and the food there was much better.
There were plenty of jewelry shops just outside the hotel and the prices were cheap (just make sure you know what you're buying). Another cheap item was alcohol.
Another attraction was Cheri's which featured live music, dancing and everyone just having a great time. The Casino Royale was also next door. It was small, but nice for anyone with a desire to gamble a few bucks.
My only complaint had to be the service. I think most of the wait staff was not eager enough and moved at a snail's pace. I found that at breakfast it was quicker to get your own coffee and orange juice. Speaking of the coffee... it always had a burnt taste.
Overall, the good things about the island and the resort out-weighed the negative things. I would definitely go back to the Maho. |

Bad service, jet fumes and surprise costs. Visited: May 2003 |

My advice to anyone that has stayed at a strictly all-inclusive resort or is from a major city in the United States, "Stay away from this place!" If you're used to even satisfactory customer service, this is not the place for you.
The service was rude, had horrible attitudes. They misrepresented information regarding restaurant availability and places to eat on the all-inclusive plan. A front desk clerk told me that the gratuities in my all-inclusive plan were really just the hotel surcharges and that I should expect to tip people, which I found highly offensive being that I drop at least 20% wherever I go.
The restaurants advertised as open Mon. - Sat. were mysteriously closed. When we had a question for the front desk, no one would help us. Phones went unanswered or we would get passed around to a number of people (all of whom have no interest in answering a question). The front desk manager in particular had not been schooled the right way in customer relations.
I got woken up at 9 am by someone soliciting overpriced car rentals.
The turbo jet exhaust at the beach made it unbearable. Waking up to planes taking off outside my window was not the way I wanted to wake up on my quick getaway vacation. Stay away from this place and go somewhere else! |

We got an exceptional value here! Visited: February 2003 |

Top-shelf beer and spirits and "hotel food" was better than average, but it was still "hotel food". The off-site dining was supurb throughout the island and well worth the price tag. (These are restaurant owners speaking.) The service was slow as per other reviewers, but really, too many folks just expected too much and were too demanding of the sometimes harried staff. Friendliness and patience begat friendliness and promptness (for the most part). The Point was terrific.
The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable, if not posh. We loved being next to the airport. What fun! If you are travelling with a tour, skip the bus and pay the six bucks for a two-minute cab ride to avoid check-in line ups.
Children were not plentiful, which was great, and foolish little "classes" did not occupy the pool, deck or beach areas much. The nicest folks you could ever meet were the norm here. There were lots of Canadians and Yankees.
Buy some jewelery - prices can't be beat, but prepare to haggle a lot! They expect it and thrive on it.
All in all, it was a good experience and a nice resort (rent the fridge at $5/day). Don't cheap out with the tipping (they have remarkable memories) and don't expect too, too much. It is an island, after all.
If you want sun, sand, two lovely pools, some quiet, or not, and a sense of safety wherever you choose to go - Maho fits the bill quite nicely. |

We enjoyed a very relaxing holiday. Visited: November 2002 |

My sister and I travelled to St. Maarten for the first time after the Thanksgiving holiday. We were two women vacationing without our children and husbands and this vacation was strictly for rest and relaxation.
Because Maho Beach Resort was just minutes from the airport, we were able to start our vacation just minutes after our plane touched down. Taxi transportation was negotiable and run around $6.00 US.
Our check-in was quick and smooth. Our room was adequate, well kept and clean. We changed and hit the beach. Although the beach area was rather small, Maho had a raised beach area that provided bar service, chairs, umbrellas and small tables.
The meals at the Palm Grille were very good and breakfast at the buffet was okay. In fact, most food at the buffet (Ocean Terrace) was just okay, although the view in the morning while having our coffee was wonderful.
We were disappointed to find that The Point restaurant was not yet open for the season. Service at all of the restaurants was slightly slow. We were on the all-inclusive plan, and when we tipped our waitress a few dollars because we were looking to eat lunch and get back to the beach, she had us served in no time.
Mullet Bay, which was a 10 minute walk from our resort, was a beautiful beach. We took our snorkel equipment (provided by Maho Beach resort) with us and found this beach to be uncrowded, quiet and safe for swimming.
Rosie's was one of the local stands set up to sell soda, beer, hotdogs, ribs, etc. The prices were very affordable ($2.00 US for Heinekin, Caribe, $1.50 US for hotdogs, etc.) We patronized Rosie all afternoon.
The grounds of the hotel were well kept and clean. The pool was clean and beautiful. The resort was surrounded by shops that offered everything from jewelry to a mini-supermarket. There were lots of local bars, clubs and restaurants all within walking distance.
This was a wonderful resort for our quick getaway. I will definitely return with my husband when we need some R and R. We didn't find the resort to be kid-friendly, although it was low season. We also could not find a kiddie pool. |

Not quite a 5-star, but nice enough. Visited: November 2002 |

I just returned from a one-week stay at the Maho Beach Resort and Casino. It was not quite a 5-star resort as touted, but nice nonetheless.
The food was good (not exceptional), and the service was terrible. Very few of the staff were friendly and seemed so unhappy to be working there. You pretty much had to end up serving yourself at breakfast, as coffee and juice were nowhere to be seen. The attitude of the staff did remarkably pick up once the owners arrived. I found that to be very timely indeed.
After reading all of the positive reviews, I was really expecting something quite special and I was surprised to find something rather ordinary.
The rooms were nice enough, but rather basic, and the color scheme left much to be desired. The resort was quite empty, so that was nice. Although, during my stay I found many of the people staying there to be big drinkers and smokers.
If you're into Players Lights, you'll love it at the Maho. The airport was ridiculously close, which made for interesting visuals, but it smelled of burning rubber and jet fuel. |

I just came back from the Maho Beach Resort. I can't wait to go back.
The grounds were beautiful and clean, as were the pools. The food was also good. The beach was small, but still was enjoyable! Watching the planes come in was fun. There were other beaches nearby to explore.
There were shops and places to eat within walking distance. You will want to try Paris Bistro - good food! Everyone was friendly. We were very pleased. Our 7 days flew by. If you want to relax, this is the place to go! |
