I thought it was just awful. Visited: July 2005

I wouldn't recommend anyone staying here. I found it to be totally disgusting. We received bad service. Also, the television didn't work correctly.

In addition, the air conditioning didn't cool enough. We found all the rooms to be unacceptable - even the penthouse suite.

A waste of money.....Horizon Motel Visited: February 2003

I dont know why they called it a hotel in the first place. Rooms are ok, but no room service, unfriendly staff. The worst is the management on the front desk.
Thay wont call a cab and there are always shady characters lurking around the hotel as they know jewelry suppliers come in the hotel and so they have merchandise on them.
Once a supplier lost his bag from his room because in his absence the keys to the room were given to another person who claimed to be his friend. No one knows how far this imposter was true or the manager was speaking lies. But the bottom line is that the supplier lost his bag.
Holland House just a block away is a better bet with better rooms, better and professional staff and definately more friendly attitude.

This hotel is better suited for business traveler. Visited: January 2003

The rooms are nice, but this hotel is better suited for the business traveler and not the vacationer looking for a quiet beach. It should especially be avoided when the cruise ships are docked.

Beach access is either through a restaurant or through a dingy alley. Entrance to the hotel is down a corridor with jewelry shops and people out front begging you to come in and shop (pretty disgusting) and then up a flight of stairs.

The staff is not particularly helpful. They refused to call a cab for us to the airport and we asked three times! When we asked for restaurant suggestions, we were directed to the Subway shop across the street. Checking in, we were given the remote control to the TV but forgot to bring it down when we paid the bill. When we returned to our room to gather up the luggage and return the remote control I felt like the owners then treated us like we were stealing the stupid gadget and clamored onto the elevator as we were trying to get off.

We will definitely stay elsewhere on our next trip to St. Maarten.

Center of town, helpful people, nice rooms. Visited: August 2001

My boyfriend and I stayed at Horizon View for 4 days. The staff, especially 'Sunny', was very helpful.

This hotel is situated at the middle of Front Street and is surrounded by restaurants, bars, cafes and lots of shops. It's also close to the buses and taxi services. Sunny, organized a tour of the island for us with Mary. We saw both the Dutch and French sides for US $60! That's a bargain, as she took us to all the main sites and allowed us to walk around in different areas, take pictures, etc.).

The rooms are spotlessly clean and equipped with microwave, fridge and toaster. The hotel is located on a very nice beach close to where the cruise ships come in. On Tuesdays go to the 'Greenhouse' close to the hotel for a bit of entertainment and good deals on drinks!

I've stayed at Horizon View Beach Hotel many times. The rooms are basic, but have lots of space. All the amenities are in working order (A/C, fridge, hot water). The beach view rooms are really nice. There is no restaurant, but you can get a quick pastry and coffee at the front office in the morning.

For awhile, there was no beach at the hotel. It’s nice to see one again. The hotel is situated on Philipsburg's Front Street, so restaurants, shopping and entertainment are an integral part of the scene. If you don't fancy church bells make sure your room does not face the church. It can be a little loud at times. Overall, the Horizon View boasts a strong portfolio of return customers.
