This is a fabulous resort! Visited: March 2008

My husband, our eight-year-old son and I spent our Spring Break at the Divi and loved the property.

The recently renovated rooms were spectacular. Our one-bedroom room consisted of: full kitchen, dining area, smooth top stove, stainless appliances, Washer/dryer, sleeper sofa, WC with a stellar shower, vanity, pocket doors leading to jetted tub, additional vanity area, master bedroom with private patio, 2 plasma HD TV's, etc.

The resort had tennis courts, pools, beachfront on Little Bay, and fabulous views across Great Bay of Phillipsburg.

Despite an oceanic storm, there was plenty of beach available for all, unlike many other resorts.

The resort also featured duty free shops, mini mart, cafe w/internet and wifi code for small fee.

The staff was all quite accommodating, and Angelique at the front desk and Paul at the poolside restaurant were notably so.

There are onsite "day trips" arrangements, jetski and kayak rentals, as well.

The Little Bay was wonderful for snorkeling, yet there was enough "wave action" for our energetic eight-year-old.

I would definitely recommend this resort for anyone traveling to St Maarten.

This was definitely not worth the money! Visited: December 2006

On the surface, this seemed ideal as one could awaken to the sound of the ocean lapping the shores and the beautiful sea breeze air.

It appeared to be child-friendly, and should have been an enjoyable stay. However, the resort was old, and it was very apparent.

The rooms were not cleaned sufficiently, and although most of the staff were friendly, they were not entirely efficient.

We spent most of the time out of the resort, as there was nothing to keep us there really.

It was definitely not worth the money they charged. The best thing was the parrot! We will not be staying here again.

My husband, three kids and I loved Divi!

We stayed at the Pelican our first year, and bought Divi timeshares that visit! This summer will be our second trip staying here, and we can't wait.

The staff is well trained, and they all go the extra mile. One staff member even went so far as make a doctor appointment for me on a Friday afternoon - after hours, and drew a map to the office. Then, he apologized for not being able to take me personally as there was no one to cover for him at the front desk!

The rooms were clean, and had been completely renovated and upgraded. It was full of European beauty.

We are looking forward to our visit next month!

I suggest you stay away from this place. Visited: April 2006
Posted by thebrowndog1
It is actually a real shame about this place. It could be so nice.
Checking in was tough. I had pre paid for my room. They said that I didn't. We had to argue about that.

We got to our room. To even get there, we had to go by the restaurant that smelled of raw sewage. I stayed away from that place.

The room was not impressive. We had a dirty bedspread, no towels, mold, bugs, and rust. We figured it would be okay since we were in the Caribbean. I knew it wouldn't be five-star, so I figured I would live with it.

It was just not relaxing. There seemed to be some shady people were staying here. I had travlers checks stolen. It was just not a safe and relaxing trip.

At the end, I was charged $50.00 for two gross and dirty beach towels that they gave us a voucher for. Guests have to return the vouchers when they leave, or they are charged this $50.00. I returned the vouchers, and still can't get a $50.00 refund. Oh well, it was $50.00. It was worth it to know that I never ever have to go back there again.

The best part was Gizmo, the parrot. He was cool. I liked him. Other than that, I suggest you stay away. There are too many other nice places to stay on the island.

We enjoyed the Divi - we will be back! Visited: March 2006

I don't understand the negative reviews for this resort. We stayed for nine days with four other couples, and we all agree we would return.

We have stayed in a number of all-inclusives in the Caribbean, and for the value, this was one of the best. The food was excellent. There was only one restaurant open for lunch, and one for dinner. But both had a wide selection, and everything - from the steaks to the pasta - was fantastic. This was the best food we have ever had at an all-inclusive, only one night was a buffet were we couldn't order off the menu. The other buffets nights, we could.

The beach was beautiful, nice and private. And in March, the weather was nice and hot. The beach was never crowded, and there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas - with staff to assist you if needed. We were concerned because we read about cruise ship excursions using the beach. When they did arrive, they used a small section of the beach, and didn't use the portion of the beach reserved for guests.

The rooms were okay, but nothing special. They were typical "beach resort" rooms. They were a bit rustic, but clean, and we didn't spend much time in our room anyway.

Check in and out went smoothly. They put all five couples on the same floor without even requesting it.

The staff was friendly, and the service was good. We went all-inclusive, but did do some extra tipping which got us VIP service, a couple bucks go a long way. Like at any resort, if you give a little extra, you get a little extra.

Regards go out to Angelo, Micheal, Marisol, Madeline, Walter and Jamilika. We had lots of laughs with them, and they went out of their way to make our stay special. When we left, we felt like we were leaving friends.

Everything was close by, with no long walks to dinner or to the bars. If you are ambitious, you can walk into the capital of Phillipsburg. If you are not, it is a short cab ride away.

The resort is located on a penisula, so you have a water view from the front and back of your room.

One note of caution - we rented a car from Thrify Car Rental, which was located in the parking lot. Our car broke down 20 minutes after we rented it, and they brought us another car. When we got home, we received a charge on our credit car for towing. We are disputing it at this time. The "proof" that they sent us, appears to be a charge slip with my husband's signature forged.

We will definitely be back to the Divi in St. Maarten.

We thought the staff at this resort was inefficient and very rude. Visited: February 2006
Posted by allison
On our first visit to this resort (March of 2005), we could not have been more surprised at the rudeness and indifference of the staff. We returned again February 2006 hoping things had changed. We found that they were actually much worse this stay.

We will never return to Divi Little Bay for this reason. The resort was absolutely beautiful, and the accommodations were adequate and comfortable.

However, we found the staff everywhere on the resort to be very inefficient and unpleasant. There seemed to be no concern for customer service at this resort. Any complaints appeared to fall on deaf ears.

The beach was beautiful, but cruise ship excursions came to the beach every day. The beach was noisy with extremely loud music and an activities person yelling in a microphone. All the beach umbrellas were broken.

This was a very expensive vacation for very little service. Don't bother.

We love the Divi Little Bay! If you aren't used to a third-world country, and you are a spoiled brat, you may not like the Divi.

The hotel is beautiful and sits right on Little Bay. Guests have their own private beach where nobody harrasses you. Rent a car, of course, and tour the whole island. The point of a vacation to another country is to actually see the country, not to just lay out at your hotel. Also, check out the rhino tour and FLY ZONE at the Lotterie farm in Pic Paradise, it is an amazing experience. Just be aware that when there is more than one cruise ship docked for the day, you will experience a lot more traffic.

The service at the Divi is okay. We had no problem getting service. But who wants staff bugging you all day? We loved the privacy and we never had a problem. All the staff will be friendly - if you are friendly and respectful to them.

We stayed in a beautiful studio with a balcony that led out into the beach. We fell in love with St. Maarteen and will be back often since we bought a time-share at the Divi.

Way too expensive for what you get Visited: April 2005
Posted by lherrit
We arrived on April 18th. The staff was friendly but in absolutely no hurry to help unless your holding a tip upfront.

The restaurants are overated and there is not as much of a selection to choose from. The wait staff were ok but were even better when the tip was given and then they remembered you for the next time.

The bar on the beach had the worst bartender and he was not even the slightest bit nice even with a tip but he nevertheless expected one.

All in all I would not go to Divi Little Bay again, you may as well go to Cuba or Dominican for half the price.

We found Divi Little Bay to be a worn out and tired resort. Visited: November 2004
Posted by jhmoore
The Divi Little Bay was the worst place I have ever stayed anywhere, any time. We were two couples traveling together, and we are not complainers usually.

Upon arrival, the "bellman" stood and watched while we unloaded our own luggage from our rental car. And it only got worse from there.

Our first rooms were so run down and dirty that we all agreed that we had to complain and ask to be moved. After an hour of begging, we were moved the next day. Our next room was slightly better, but was also very run down and just not clean.

It contained old furniture, had a very old bathroom with soap scum on the shower walls and red water in the tub. Our feet stayed dirty from the filthy floors. Bugs took over our rooms in the evening..crawling all over the nightstand, dresser, headboard and got in our luggage.

Also, the pools were old with peeling paint. One pool had cigarette butts all around for four days. In addition, they had very short restaurant and bar hours. And when they closed, we were out of luck. We saw people turned away constantly because they were closing...morning and afternoon. We didn't hang around at night!

They had nice staff, but just not trained in customer service. It was not a resort atmosphere at all.

It did sit on a pretty peninsula with beautiful water all around. But that was the only nice feature. Don't chance it! We didn't believe all the negative reviews, but we should have!

Divi should be called 'Dive'! Visited: August 2004
Posted by robertdouglasc
Just returned from Divi on St. Maarten...what a terrible little resort. Run down and lacking any attempt at customer service, I want Divi renamed Dive...that is exactly what it is...a dive! Last year I stayed at the Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas for a week and really was spoiled. The rooms at Divi are terrible. Little to no amenities...no clock radio, poor tv reception and a bathroom that looked like a porta-pottie on the side of the road in Cambodia! Most of the hotel was run down and I saw no effort to make repairs. Hanging, broken emergency lighting, cracked plaster, a beach littered with debris and trash and roaches the size of VW Beetles scurrying about. Although the water was fantastic, the beach staff is a bunch of deadbeats. The worst thing of all was the fact that the beach is PUBLIC! Two days in a row about twenty urchins from town thought it would be a good idea to swim...they ran all over the beach throwing sand at one another, curseing like long shoreman and basically chased off many of the paying guests. the hotel staff did nothing! STAY AWAY FROM DIVI BAY! Stay on the FRENCH side of the island where you will deal with people that actually care that you are soending your hand earned money on their little backwater island! The French were fantastic..it was a bohemian paradise..think Gauguin painting! Stay off the Dutch side with one exception...CHESTERFIELDS Resteraunt was great and well worth the trip to the dutch side!!!

Divi Little Bay has it all! Visited: July 2004
Posted by snewt770
We just returned from a 12-day stay at Divi Little Bay on St. Maarten. We were absolutely delighted with our stay here!

Situated on a peninsula, Divi had gorgeous views of the turquoise water of both Little Bay and Great Bay. The resort had duty-free shops, a small market, three restaurants, a beach bar, a water-sports facility with jet skis, snorkeling equipment, etc. There was great snorkeling right off the beach.

They also offered an internet cafe and even their own talking parrot named Gizmo right on the property. The beach was clean, sandy and beautiful, with chairs, umbrellas, and towels provided. They had delicious lobster night, barbecue night, etc. at the main restaurant, and entertainment at night and activities on the beach during the day.

It was located a short walk from Phillipsburg, where they had many restaurants and amazing duty-free shopping. We stayed in a lovely spacious suite with a jacuzzi tub and two balconies overlooking the beach.

The staff at the resort from housekeeping to management, were warm, friendly and eager to please. The woman in the internet cafe greeted me each morning saying "Hello Baby!". It was wonderful!

The young adults traveling with us enjoyed going into Phillipsburg or to Simpson Bay to the nightclubs-- both very short taxi rides. The island was awesome, so if you can afford a rental car and want to see more of the island, we recommend it. It definitely would not be a necessity if you stayed at Divi, though, because they had everything we needed.

All in all, it was a fabulous vacation! You won't regret staying at Divi Little Bay!

Divi Little Bay is friendly, quiet and safe on its own peninsula. Visited: February 2004
Posted by bigmiike
I have visited Divi yearly since I bought a timeshare in 1999. The resort and St. Maarten have both improved each year recovering from a devastating hurricane.

The swimming is excellent in Little Bay with its calm waters, and snorkeling is good. Each of the three pools caters to different tastes. Most of the guests are seniors and families, therefore it is a pretty quiet resort. Although this year they have started selling beach packages to the Cruise ships, but this is not a problem because they stay on the beach near the front desk and restaurant.

All rooms have a bay view of either Little Bay or Great Bay. The restaurant meals vary from good to great. We found it less expensive to eat an early diner at the Sea Breeze Cafe, which closes at 5:00 PM rather than at the main restaurant. Of course, there are many restaurants on the island - especially in the French town of Grande Case.

Generally, to enjoy the island you need a car. Rentals are around $200.00 per week for a four-passenger gutless Toyota, but that’s all you need. The town of Phillipsburg is nearby and you can walk in to do shopping or go to restaurants, go on a day with no cruise ships in port if you don't like crowds.

All the timeshare rooms have full kitchen facilities and are generally well kept. If there is a problem, the maintenence staff normally responds quickly. There are enough stores on the resort to satisfy your needs, but groceries are less expensive at the supermarkets a five-minute drive away.

I have actually walked to the supermarkets twice, and on my return trip laden down with groceries, I was picked up and driven to the resort both times, once by a friendly islander and once by a fellow vacationer who recognized me.

My wife and I keep going back, each year staying longer. We enjoy the large rooms, especially the four-piece bathroom with a Jacuzzi and the on site beach, restaurants and shops. If we want more excitement, we can always go to where the action is by rental car or taxi.

I thought the service was horrible. Visited: October 2003

Although the property was a nice one, the service we experienced here was horrible. But it seemed to go with the service of the island overall.

The staff appeared to not have been trained, and management did not seem to spend any funds in either training them or hiring well trained staff. It was as if the waiters were basically glorified beach bums and the females just didn't seem to care.

I would not advise anyone to stay here.

A quiet, relaxing, and subtle resort. Visited: April 2003
Posted by kingjolee
We are owners at Divi Little Bay. When we bought there seven years ago, the place was in terrible shape from the hurricane. We bought at a low price knowing that they had many renovations to do.

We decided we liked the place because of its quiet relaxing atmosphere and location. We purchased a luxury studio overlooking the ocean. THe studio came with all amenties including a large jacuzzi for two.

They have rebuilt the resort. The beach is not fluffy and white, but convenient and clean, and the water is beautiful. The pools are clean, convenient and have beautiful views. The food in the restaurant is very good for all meals.

If you are looking for an active resort with plenty to do, this is not the place to stay. We love the location because it is away from the airport. The property is very quaint and has all the amentities you will need.

There is a lot to do on St. Maarten. Both the French and Dutch Side have great shopping and restaurants. Although Front Street isn't the most beautiful area, it has great shops and great buys on jewlery, liquor and trinkets.

Maho Beach is a fun place, but too crowded to stay at all the time. I also prefer to relax on a quiet beach not having jets flying over me.

You must rent a car (go to Paradise Rental or Safari...they offer the best prices and will bargain). There are too many beautiful beaches, restaurants, shopping and places to see (Pic Paradise, Butterfly Farm, Fort Amsterdam, Marigot, Grand Case, Orient Beach and more.)

We love Divi for its quietness when we want it, and when we want action, we mingle around the island. We will continue to return to St. Maarten.

Divi Little Bay Beach Resort provides sun, sand and convenience to shopping. Visited: March 2003
Posted by pkapla
Divi Little Bay is an excellent place to spend your week (or two) in the sun. We stayed in a two-bedroom unit overlooking Little Bay.

Divi's beach was divided into segments by a small breakwater. One portion was more shells, the other was pure sand. Even on the shell portion, once we were out 10 feet, the bottom turned to sand.

We could walk into Phillipsburg (about a mile to shopping heaven). A taxi ride to town was $6 for two people. Shopping was great. Renting a car was also easy. The island was small, so it was fairly easy to get around.

Divi was quiet, but the small island allowed us to find the action for a reasonable taxi fare. We plan to return often.

Too quiet at the Divi Visited: March 2002
Posted by covino
I just returned from the Divi with my husband.

Our room was a junior suite overlooking the beach and was right next to the infinity pool and another pool. Both pools were much smaller than the photos would have you believe.

The resort was not full at all, but if it were, I can imagine how crowded the pools would have been. There was a larger, deeper pool down by one of the restaurants - but nothing special about it.

Our room had the best two-person jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed wonderful bubble baths every night. The rooms did not have a clock/radio, and TV stations were limited. We missed being able to listen to some music as we dressed.

The beach was very nice and the views from the Divi were spectacular. I cannot complain about the accommodations or the beach. They offered some motorized sports onsite. Jet-skiing was the one we took advantage of, and my husband enjoyed it.

I did not enjoy having to ride up and down the mountain every day and night in order to get to a restaurant or another beach. (Everyone drove like lunatics.) The only upside to the Divi was it was closer to Dawn Beach (beautiful and great lolos).

The Divi was next to the Great Bay, which had a small casino. Their beach had lots of pebbles and we thought the resort was "run- down". Next to that was Philipsburg, which we had no desire to visit after getting lost several times our first day and seeing it. It looked very seedy and since we weren't looking to shop, it had no allure for us.

The restaurants and entertainment at the Divi were very limited. It was a quiet spot if that is what you’re looking for. After eating breakfast and looking at the menu for lunch/dinner, we decided not to take advantage of the "all you could eat" buffet on Wednesday night which was supposed to be very.

Instead, we ate out every night but one, stayed in and heated up a quiche we bought at Match Supermarket on the French side. The room came with a small kitchen, which had everything we needed to cook and make frozen cocktails - a stove, oven, small refrigerator/freezer, pots, pans, flatware, dishware, blender, microwave. They even had potholders and dishwashing liquid, but the maid cleaned up the next morning.

Since we spent most of our time in Simpson Bay, and the French side, I would have preferred staying in Simpson or Maho, but we hadn't realized that Simpson Bay was where all the action was and not Philipsburg.

I would recommend staying at a hotel closer to Simpson Bay if you wish to stay on the Dutch side. Or stay at the Divi if you want quiet and don't plan to leave your resort much.

The staff was very friendly, but the facilities were limited.

Wowsers! Visited: February 2001
Posted by hannah_head
This is a beautiful property, located on the tip of the Dutch side of the island, next to an old military fort. The entrance to the property is guarded 24 hours a day with a friendly guard making one feel safe and sound.

We stayed in a beachfront room, which had a king-sized bed, sitting area, kitchenette, balcony, and to our delight, a four-person Jacuzzi in the bathroom. The room overlooked the pool area and Little Bay Beach. The beach is not the typical white, sandy type, it's more shelly, but with beautiful Caribbean water all the same! We had rented a jeep and I recommend this to anyone although, there is quite a bit within walking distance including Great Bay Beach, which is a beautiful white, sandy beach.

We loved it so much we're getting ready to go back and stay here again. The staff was friendly, we had a delicious buffet breakfast in the restaurant one morning, there are a bunch of little shops selling jewelry, sarongs, and many other island treasures. There is also an activities hut that has water sport items for rent. I highly recommend this property. I only gave it three stars because of location; without a car the adventurous type of person may begin to feel a bit isolated after several days. Enjoy!
