We found bugs on our sheets, pubic and head hair in our bathroom, and stains on the bed spread and sofa cover. The toilet area was separate from tub area and was substandard. The wall boards were detaching from the wall.
Also, the front desk supervisor seemed rude and unconcerned. We left and found another place. I thought the web site for the hotel was misleading and outdated. |

This is a good hotel for one- or two-night stay (right price/performance). Visited: April 2005 |

The hotel is clean and people are friendly. The beach is not a "Caribbean" one, but you can use the hotel to visit other beaches. The shuttle is useful, but too expensive (versus a taxi). |

WE ORIGINALLY BOOKED THE GREAT BAY BEACH HOTEL IN ST MARTINS. HOWEVER WAS THEN RELOCATED TO THE FLAMBOYANT ON ARRIVAL EVERYTHING LOOKS NICE. ONCE WE SETTLED IN WE STARTED TO NOTICE THINGS WERE GEARED AROUND THE FRENCH MORE. THE BREAKFAST WAS DISGUSTING DON'T LEAVE YOUR FOOD ON THE TABLE THE BIRDS WILL EAT IT VERY HYGENIC I MUST SAY. YOU CANNOT SWIM IN THE LAGOON YOU SINK IN THE SAND AND IT SMELLS. ALSO IF YOU ARE LOCATED ON THE GROUND FLOOR LIKE WE WERE YOU A SUPPLIED WITH A LUMP OF WOOD TO PUT ON THE PATIO DOOR TO STOP YOU FROM BEING BURGLED. OUR SAFE NEVER WORKED EVEN A ENGINEER COULD GET IT TO WORK SO SAFETY IS AN ISSUE.THEY MAKE IT QUITE CLEAR TO YOU THAT THEY ONLY CATER FOR THE FRENCH AND THERE IS NO MONEY CHANGING FACILITIES. SO YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A TAXI TO MARIGOT EVERYTIME. ALTHOUGH WE WERE FULLY INCLUSIVE THERE WERE NO DAY TIME SNACKS AVAILABLE. THEY SERVE LUNCH BY THE POOL EVERYDAY WHICH CONSISTS OF THE SAME EACH DAY BURGER (VERY RARE) CHIPS SALAD ETC VERY MUNDANE. THEY DO HAVE A POOLSIDE RESTAURANT AGAIN THE MENU NEVER CHANGES SO IF YOUR THERE FOR TWO WEEKS YOU CAN EAT YOURSELF THROUGH THE MENU ON A WEEK THEN REPEAT IT AGAIN. THE ROOMS WELL WE HAD TWO SINGLE BEDS PUSHED TOGETHER WITH A PLASTIC SHEET UNDERNEATH PILLOWS VERY FLAT EVEN THOUGH WE REQUESTED MORE THESE NEVER ARRIVED. SEWERS TEND TO GET BLOCKED SO BEWARE. WE HAD A KITCHENETTE WHICH WAS NICE YOU COULD MAKE A HOT DRINK IF NEEDED AND IT WAS GOOD TO HAVE A FRIDGE. POOL IS ABOUT THE ONLY THING THAT IS NICE ITS BETTER TO GO FULLY INCUSIVE THERE OTHER WISE ITS VERY EXPENSIVE. VISIT PHILLIPSBURG GREAT FOR SHOPPING AND A BETTER RESORT. |

This was a neat motel, with ceramic tiles, which I liked (I hate carpet, especially in a humid and hot place like St. Martin).
We had a king-sized bed with lots of pillows. Ant the air conditioning was working well.
The only thing that I didn't really like that much was the bathroom. It was not really fancy like you'd like it to be, but it was very clean and the shower was nice, too (not spraying too hard on my sun burns!).
I did not mind that the TV was small.. we did not watch a lot of TV anyway, but most of the channels were a few HBO and news channels (and they were the same channels running over and over).
The patio section was nice with a cute little kitchenette (with plates, cups, glasses, etc.). We had the garden view and still it was nice (they had a really nice garden at this resort).
The maid service was awesome. We had requested no maid service in our room, but still every morning there was a big bag full of towels and even bed sheets left by the maid at our door!
The staff was super nice at the bar and water sports area - and even at the reception. We were welcomed by a nice French girl named Melanie.
Also, we did not take the 'all-inclusive' package. If you do the same, I would suggest that you eat elsewhere if possible. On the night we arrived, my boyfriend and I were too tired and starved to look around and had the 'buffet' at the Terrasse. It cost $62 for both of us (with two sodas), which was way too expensive.
The lagoon was only for watersports, not for swimming, but there were beaches all around the resort (across the street).
A safe was in our room, and was made so you could choose your own code to lock it. The motel was also very safe with cameras at the entrance and security.
If you choose Le Flamboyant with no all-inclusive, just make sure you rent a car, it's close to Marigot and will certainly be very enjoyable. The resort also had one computer to access the internet for you to send an e-mail to your friends and family while on vacation. |

Le Flamboyant was not a bad choice for us at all. It was close to Marigot. We had a car, so we didn't really mind that it was not directly on the beach. (The lagoon was for watersports and not to swim).
The room was large with nice ceramic floors, and the one we had, had a king-sized bed and air conditioning. The room was clean and the maid service was awesome.
We did not ask for maid service in our room every day, but she always left clean towels and bed sheets in a bag next to our door every morning.
The room also had a safe, which you choose your own code to lock it (very convenient).
The staff was super nice and had a very good customer service.
The kitchenette on the patio outside was a bonus for us since we did not take the all-inclusive package. It came with plates, glasses and a mini-fridge which was very convenient.
The watersports and all other activities at the motel were really nice. They had a very nice entertainer at night with music, dance lessons, karaoke and all kinds of fun things to do around the bar.
The resort was really clean and they had really good gardeners because their gardens were beautiful. There were also two pools. The one next to the lobby was quieter than the one close to the bar as there were a lot of kids going to that one.
Overall, this resort was nice, and the staff was also nice. I would recommend this resort to anyone. |

This resort was above average in a number of areas. We must disagree totally with the previous posting of its' "many irritating features (maddening door locks, miniature 10-inch TV with only 4 channels subtitled and unwatchable, offensive musty odors etc.)
Yes, some of this was true - but, all of this was quickly forgiven when we approached the front desk and met some of the French staff ( Mademoiselle Lawrence was a prime example ).
Even when we attended one of the many happy hour events - we met one of the very best bartenders in the world - named Jeane Pierre. He offered drinks which were clearly the very best on the island. You must not skip the Happy Hour at this Hotel - it was the best ! Again - from the moment we arrived -the front desk staff were very excited to greet us and to make us feel special. We were their guests and they wanted to make sure we felt this way.
It is true - there were no official bellmen on staff . But I am confident that if you asked someone at the front desk, your bags would be addressed immediately.
There were no elevators, but, this was a good thing to us. Coming from a northern state, we were looking to lose some of this winter fat that we are all prone to each year. The exercise was great and our hearts thank you !
As for the lagoon beach - We enjoyed the view and, best of all, the warm pools. Our view on this trip was to explore the island (rent a car ). And we ultimately favored other beach areas. However, this did not negatively impact the hotel.
We also found the rooms to be very spacious and enjoyable.
I would highly recommend this hotel. Keep in mind that we rented a car and did not place a heavy burden on the hotel for full time extertainment.
However, one thing that has not been mentioned is that the hotel made an effort to gather the folks from the hotel and do things together (meet other folks - break the ice ). Games were common and gifts were ultimately rewarded to participants. It was another way that the hotel management was saying "thank you for staying and we hope you are having fun".

My wife and I took a short trip to St. Martin after visiting on a cruise. We loved it. We booked this through our travel agent and she got us a great deal to spend three nights and four days.
I am not complaing about the price. If you look at the pictures of this hotel, notice the tile floor in the room. There was no carpet at all. Yes, I understand it is easier to clean after storms, and guests, but my feet were cold all the time.
Overall, the room was clean, and the pictures attached to this web site were true. Low beds were included, and there were two full beds pushed together. I think most of the rooms had a fridge and coffee pot. Ours was outside on the balcony along with a sink and 2-burner stove.
As for the food - we only ate breakfast here, and they had a lot to choose from - but it was approximately 22 Euro per person. The best food was at Mergiot, which was close (10 minute cab ride), but I recommed a car.
We had a great time, and for the cost, it was a good place. I would compare it to a Hampton Inn in the US (without carpet).

This resort is below average in a number of areas. I totally agree with the previous posting of its' many irritating features (maddening door locks, miniature 10-inch TV with only 4 channels subtitled and unwatchable, offensive musty odors etc.) and have several of my own to add. Firstly, from the moment we arrived the front desk staff were very slow, disorganized and apathetic dealing with the complaints we and several other guests had.
The lagoon beach was very weedy and not good for swimming. Also, the beach was hard with no extra sand. No Bellmen were to be found and we had to drag our bags up three flights of stairs ourselves. While many of the serving staff were quite friendly, some in the restaurant were downright rude. The buffets were fine but the a la carte nights were a disaster (including a steak that could barely be cut).
We found the rooms spacious but overly economy-looking with a 1960's bathroom with exposed pipes and a toilet that wouldn't stop running. Two exterminators were also spraying the neighboring room. The pool areas were probably the best feature of the hotel if you actually wanted to stay on the grounds instead of exploring St. Martin. |

I will keep this review short, sweet and to the point and tell the facts that you need to know and not what wish you knew after the fact.
1. You have to turn in your room key to the front desk every time you leave the hotel. They say it's to prevent you from losing it and to prevent a break in to your room. But I say..either don't print the room number on the key tag, or update your system and get door pass cards like other hotels;
2. To open the door to the room, turn the knob to the right and turn the patio door knob to the left to lock it and reverse to open (it took us three days to figure this out). You'll see what I mean when you get there;
3. Watch out for the speed bump as you approach the checkin lobby, it's a killer on the rental car;
4. If your room has not been used in a while it will smell very musty to say the least (You have been warned!);
5. The room does not come with an iron, you have to check it out at the front desk and return it to the front desk when you are finished!;
6. Also, don't depend on the wake up call feature if you want to get a head start to your day - it doesn't work!
7. There is no clock!
8. Don't leave the bathroom window open or the patio door open - the mosquitoes will eat you!
8. If you must watch TV, be warned the cable channels are limited, very limited, your best bet is to stick with HBO.;
9. Calling cards and cell phones don't work on the island. You must buy local phone cards (one for the French side and one for the Dutch).
I know that all of this may sound like a gripe list but it really isn't...I did enjoy the hotel. It was beautiful and the staff was friendly and the jet skiing was AWESOME! Have fun! |

My girlfriend and I stayed here over Easter and it was great. A nicely sized room, and the kitchenette was great for storing drinks and snacks. Some people cooked there but St. Martin had too many good, cheap restaurants for that. Skip the hotel restaurants and don't waste your money on an all-inclusive. Definitely rent a car at the airport and skip the bus transfers. The hotel has a nice quiet lagoon and two pools, but the beaches are worth exploring and are great. Try Baie Rouge and Orient beach. Don't miss "Zee Best" in Marigot for a great French breakfast. Grand Case also has fabulous food. It was a wonderful trip. P.S. The airport has the cheapest duty free booze. |

My husband and I just returned from a five-day four-night stay at this hotel, and found it to be perfect. Check-in was a breeze and the room was lovely. We had a Junior Suite with a separate bedroom and a lovely balcony overlooking Simpson Bay. It was nice to eat breakfast on the balcony. All suites come with an efficiency kitchen, so one can easily eat breakfast in each day. We did not eat at the restaurant and instead rented a car to try out places in both Marigot and Grand Case.
There were excellent water sports available. The snorkeling gear was free as were the kayaks and other non-motorized sports. All in all a very relaxing stay. As an added bonus, they provided us with a room to change in on our last day so that we could enjoy our stay up to the very last minute! We would definitely stay here again.

Nice rooms, No communication, and Hurricane Lenny. Visited: November 1999 |
| Posted by ATraveler |
 |
My husband, my son and myself went to St. Martin for a four day business/pleasure trip November 19, 1999. I'll start off with the not so good, then finish with the good.
The first day and a half we were at the Le Flamboyant things were fine, then hurricane Lenny hit the island. There was no information provided by the hotel as to what we needed to do to prepare for the hurricane; it was if they didn't even know it was coming. For two days after it hit, there was still no communication by the hotel. We had to rely on other guests for information. I was disappointed that things were handled so poorly.
A hurricane had just hit the island a couple of months ago and you would of thought that they would of had a plan of action, or if they did they needed to share it with the guests. Then after the hurricane hit, they weren't in any rush to clean up. We left there one week after the hurricane hit and the pool was still dirty from everything that had blown in it.
The hotel staff said not to swim in it because the water was contaminated, yet there wasn't any urgency to clean it. The lagoon that the property faces was just as nasty, but you also had living things in that body of water to contend with as well.
Now for a more positive note, the hotel did provide the guests with free breakfast and lunch/dinner for a week after the hurricane hit, and they did reduce our room rate for the same period of time. We probably would of had a great time if the hurricane hadn't of hit. My biggest complaint is that the management at the hotel needs to have a plan of action.
The Le Flamboyant has clean/nice rooms, the pools were nice (before the hurricane), they had planned activities each day, and there is a cute little town just minutes away (Marigot), offering shopping, grocery stores, and restaurants. You may have to drive several miles to find a swimmable beach though.
I would come back again, when everything has been cleaned up! |

Pretty Good Visited: November 1999 |

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Flamboyant last summer. All in all, we were pretty satisfied with our stay. The rooms and the hotel, in general, were very clean and service was friendly. We especially appreciated the activities desk which we took full advantage of since the location of this hotel, and the fact that the "lagoon" is not really swimmable, make it almost necessary to explore this wonderful island.
We did not opt for the all-inclusive which we were very glad since there were so many great restaurants to sample. Tatoo, the restaurant which is located at the entrance but not part of the Flamboyant, was one of our favorites.
Renting a car to explore this island and its many beautiful beaches turned out to work very well for us. We would leave in the morning (Baie Rouge was our favorite) and be glad to have a clean air-conditioned room to come home to.
We did alot of snorkeling, eating, driving, tanning, resting, exploring and sleeping in St. Martin and loved every minute. |
