It has good potential, but must improve on the cleanliness. Visited: March 2006 |

We wish we could recommend this hotel. It was cozy, had a nice courtyard around which all the rooms faced which allows you to meet your neighbors. It was also in one of the best locations on St. Martin -- Grand Case, and had dedicated parking.
Unfortunately, we can't recommend the Hevea because it was not the cleanest of hotels. For starters, the owner's large dog, which laid around the courtyard looking for food, stank to high heaven. Once you step around the dog (which was no small task), there were other unpleasant smells that we noticed.
The room in the photograph was the best room on the property. The other rooms were smaller. While we can't speak for all the rooms, our room had small roaches, a non-working air conditioner, and it smelled bad. It also needed a general facelift - such as a new carpet (or no carpet, as tile would likely not attract odors).
The owner/manager was very sweet. All of the problems we listed would be easily fixable in a short period of time. We hope she makes improvements to the Hevea (like hiring a cleaning staff) because this has potential to be a terrific bargain hotel much like Chez Martine. |

We stayed one night and we enjoyed it very much. They had a special parking spot for us which was needed since parking was limited in Gran Case.
Hevea was centrally located and we could walk to the restaurants and shops. The beach was just across the road, which we checked out the next morning. The room was small, but very neat and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again. |
