Beach Plaza has a good location, but a horrible view. Visited: January 2007 |

This hotel was given four stars by our tour company, but only two-and-a-half on other sites. I agree with the latter.
We were minutes walk to the lovely restaurants of the Marina Royale, which was the biggest perk.
On the downside, we got a bottle of water when we arrived - but that was it. Once we asked the maid for a bottle, she sent us to the front desk, who sent us to the restaurant, who referred us to the barman. He then said there was a charge for a bottle of water. Given that these bottles retail for around $1.00, we couldn't understand why they couldn't give a bottle each day.
As for the view...
On the ocean side it was spectacular, but you had to pay a lot extra for this. Those on packages got a view of a boat repair yard, and, in our case, a huge mud puddle and garbage buckets. Plus, it faced the noisy two-lane main road. Forget about going out onto your balcony for a cocktail.
The staff was okay, but a bit cold and impersonal. After traveling on the local bus, we surmised that was how most locals were, so it wasn't anything personal.
The breakfast buffet was very good with lots of fruit, a basket of three brioches, cold cereal, toast, eggs, bacon, good coffee and weak juice.
The swimming pool was a bit small for laps, and too cool for most but the hardy Canadians. There were lots of chairs on the small beach.
The ocean wasn't great for novice swimmers, as you hit rock soon after entering.
The maids were fine, but once I left a tip with a note asking for water and she left the note and the tip on the bed. The workout room was very small but functional.
The in-room fridge and safe were much appreciated.
As for safety, be careful! There were a number of purse snatchings and thefts while we were here, and we saw the local police in our hotel.
The hotel told us about this, and said to keep passport and credit cards in the room safe; to not wear jewelry; and to watch out for local youth on scooters and bikes later in the evening as well as groups or two or more locals who are walking towards you after sundown.
Overall, we were very mixed on this resort. |

My wife and I stayed at Beach Plaza Hotel for three nights. If you're looking for deluxe accommodations, a great on-site beach or activities galore, this is not the place for you. Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Unlike many resorts and hotels on the island, Beach Plaza was located in the capital of the French side of the island, Marigot. The hotel beach was small and rocky, and we never set foot on it. It was within walking distance from a great selection of restaurants (including our favorite, St. Germaine) mainly featuring french cuisine.
Some of the staff spoke English, but some - only French. The same was true for restaurants and stores in Marigot, so knowledge of a few words in French will do you well. Most of the guests were European.
You definitely need to get an ocean-side room. We slept to the sound of waves, which was wonderful. The other side of the hotel oversees the main and busiest street in Marigot. This was a great location from which to explore the island.
We were happy to only need to drive through the Dutch side on the way to an from the airport. The Dutch side was far more Americanized, and not in a good way.
There were several great beaches, our favorite was Baie Rouge, which was only ten minutes drive from Beach PLaza Hotel. Baie Oriental was the most popular and was worth a visit, though it was pretty crowded and about 20-25 minutes from the hotel. |

I stayed at the Hotel Beach Plaza for four nights in February. It was a last-minute trip, but after getting there I knew it was meant to be.
I was greeted by a smiling and helpful staff, who were knowledgable about the area and nearby activities and attractions. The hotel was a five-minute walk to the nearby town of Marigot. There was a car rental and many restaurants serving delicious West Indian food up and down the street.
Everyone in St. Martin was friendly and welcoming. The hotel was clean and safe, with security patrolling in the evenings. The hotel bar provided a free cocktail upon arrival, and a live band each night.
The beach was nice as well, and had cute straw umbrellas hovering over beach chairs. The pool was breathtaking, and having the complimentary breakfast buffet near it each morning added an extra ribbon to the already wonderful gift.
I will definitely return to the Hotel Beach Plaza on my next trip to St. Martin. |

My husband and I just returned from St. Martin. We stayed at Le Beach Plaza Hotel in Marigot and we had the best experience!
The hotel was in a great location because it was so close (walking distance) to the shops and restaurants in Marigot. The hotel lobby area was relaxing and opened out to the beautiful ocean with sailboats just a few feet away. There was also a nice pool overlooking the ocean with an adjoining pool bar and restaurant.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they went out of their way to correct a couple of minor snafus we encountered (which is inevitable anywhere). Mostly everyone spoke English here and throughout the island, which made things easy for us.
There was a Hertz car rental desk in the lobby so it was convenient to rent a car for a day or more and check out the many beautiful beaches, restaurants and shopping the island has to offer! After staying at this hotel, we decided we had absolutely made the right decision and would highly recommend it. |

My boyfriend and I were very impressed with this hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. They gave us great advice on where to eat, shop and party on the island. Our island view room was very spacious and nicely decorated. I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend this hotel to anyone. |

We stayed at the Beach Plaza for our honeymoon, and had a fantastic time. We were able to get a great deal on a honeymoon package, which included a huge ocean front room with balcony. The ocean was only a few feet from the hotel, and the pool was also very nice (as well the pool bar).
The hotel picked us up from the airport, which was very convenient. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed when we were here due to low season, but thank goodness Marigot was only 5 minutes away! We ate at some incredible restaurants for next to nothing. Everyone we met was really nice, and we even had drinks with some of the staff of the hotel in the evenings.
If you stay here, you do not need a car, you can walk to Marigot, or get a cab or bus ride for nominal prices.
This was my second time to St. Martin, first on the French side, and I have to say the French side was better. It was a lot safer, cleaner, and more cultural.

We have stayed at the Beach Plaza Hotel four times and plan to return for a fifth actually every year. We enjoy the location, it is walking distance to Marigot. The staff is very helpful, polite, and always smiling.
We enjoy the sound and smell of the waves crashing on the deck and the shore. We also enjoy the meals, my mouth is watering just thinking of past meals.
This place is also great for children - so bring them down with you. |

This hotel was nice and on the beach.
It was within walking distance from shopping and dining across from the pier at Marigot. It was also in a safe area.
We stayed here before a Windjammer cruise. The breakfast buffet was very good. The hotel was in a very quiet area. |
