HOPE COVE RESTURANT & BAR, St. Vincent & the Grenadines traveler review

complaint Visited: November 1999
Posted by circlelady
if you are going to be a successful site with accurate information, al least make it formal! there are many gramatical errors as well as spelling. please correct. you should also have at least SOME pictures of restaurants available due to the nature that some children need photos for reports.

WhereToStay.com reply: Thanks for you comments. By allowing our readers to post information, it does open us up to having some errors on the site until our editors have a chance to review them. BTW, I think you meant "at least" and you misspelled grammatical.

Mariners Hotel, Saint Vincent traveler review

This is a very special place! Visited: November 2007
Posted by dragon24
We stayed here in November 2007 for three nights, and what a delight.

The food was exceptional, and the staff was very attentive and so friendly.

We had a sea view room with spectacular views over Young Island and the sea. However, the rooms were in need of updating. They were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, though.

It was a great base to explore from and we are looking forward to coming back again.

Saltwhistle Bay Club, Mayreau traveler review

We stopped by here during a cruise. Visited: December 2007
Posted by samanthagardier
I have just returned from a cruise, and one of our stops was St. Vincent. We decided to relax, and we were advised we could go to Beach Comber to use the pool and facilities.

The hotel looked very pleasant. The pool was small, and there were only a couple of sun beds. Most people in the restaurant area were from the cruse ship, and they were complaining about the service.

The staff was extremely slow, and did not put themselves out to calm customers who were complaining about waiting up to an hour for food. It really was a joke. They did not write down who ordered what, so as the food came out, they gave the food out on memory - which was not always right.

It was a nice hotel, but they need to sort the staff and food service issues out. In the end, people were ordering their taxis to go back to the ship.

Firefly Mustique, Mustique traveler review

Don't waste your money, and don't complain! Visited: June 2007
Posted by tinnfish
When we had the nerve to even try and complain about our stay, the owners/management of this place were bloody rude and threatened to try and strand us on the island. The Firefly Mustique claims a "relaxed and friendly house party atmosphere"!

We booked with them on the understanding that our holiday would be perfect - and at just under $1,000 per day, we expected perfection.

The hotel staff had been instructed to call guests by their names, presumably to personalize the service. This backfired, it might have been welcoming if they had not called each of us by the other's surname. They had an email with our correct names for the local air ticket, so there was no excuse for this.

They would often only say 'hello' to the male half of a couple even if both of us were there, as if somehow the man was more important. This was particularly insulting and old fashioned.

We had gone to celebrate an anniversary, and had told them we wanted privacy that day. At eleven o'clock they were banging on the door and calling to us. Later, they claimed that we had been rude to them over this intrusion into our privacy.

We expected a casual, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere. This was not the case. For most of the day, the bar was dead quiet with the occasional couple playing the sort of board games you might have resorted to during a power cut.

However, at about 7:00 pm most nights, loud cries of " whoop , whoop " , " yeaahh" and shrieking girly laughter could be heard from some distance away. It sounded like they were having the sort of drinking games usually associated with students or sports clubs - good for bar profits but hardly sophisticated.

We expected in such a place that nothing would be too much trouble, yet when we asked for a small problem to be solved (i.e. for some apparently clean, but stinking bed linen to be changed), this was met with resentment and bad feeling.

On departure, the owners were unnecessarily verbally abusive and rude, which completely staggered and upset us. Unfortunately, that will be our lasting memory of this idyllic getaway.

Villa Lodge, Saint Vincent traveler review

All you need is love! Visited: October 2007
Posted by toniandsandy
At all times during our stay at this hotel, we felt loved. The front office people were very friendly, and helped us out with many things - such as taxi arrangements, excursions and flight confirmation.

The food in the restaurant was excellent, and the waitresses were always interested in our possible needs.

We really felt loved by everyone: the staff, and the manager, who made us feel very welcome.

We love you too, guys! We can't wait to come back.

The garden rooms were large and comfortable with big terraces. Watch the 0700 Dollar Van with the boom box for a wake up call each morning, though!

Steps up to the rooms could present a problem for elderly or disabled guests.

Bequia Beachfront Villa Hotel, Bequia traveler review

This was a thrilling experience! Visited: July 2007
Posted by seashells
As a frequent Fort Recovery guest for years, we were encouraged to try out Bequia Beachfront Villas as they own both properties. We booked three weeks in total, and decided to take one week for Bequia.

We booked our airfare through Pamelah from Tortola to St. Vincent, and took the ferry to Bequia. We were greeted by Gideon the taxi driver. We also rented a jeep from him for three days to tour the island.

When we got to the villa, we were thrilled by the location right on the beach. We literally couldn't control our joy! It brought tears to our eyes to be sitting on the beach for seven straight days.

The accommodations were airy, nicely decorated and very spacious. We had a fully equipped kitchen, so we bought local fish on the beach and cooked most dinners ourselves.

Driving through the island, we were so excited as there were as many beaches on Bequia as Tortola. Each day we went to a different beach.

We were so happy, and certainly recommend it to other guests. Although we ended up with another week on Tortola, leaving Bequia was sad. We hope to go back again some day soon.

Bequia Beachfront Villa Hotel, Bequia traveler review

Bequia Beachfront Villas are the best! Visited: June 2007
Posted by ttpm08
Bequia Beachfront Villas are the best you can get. We had the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house. It was the utmost in
luxury.

It had a living room, kitchen, dining room and outdoor decks on the long stretch of Friendship Bay Beach. It was, without a doubt, state-of-the-art in every way.

We enjoyed the house, the service, and the panoramic views. It was also a treat watching the fisherman pull up with their boats full
of fresh fish. We took advantage of that on one of our "at home dinner nights".

The Old Fort Villa, Bequia traveler review

We had a great family vacation here. Visited: January 2006
Posted by smoothteddy
I have no reservations about recommending The Old Fort. We have spent two vacations here with our families, and it was just perfect. The place was surrounded by beautiful gardens. This, together with the old buildings, made for a great atmosphere.

Also our kids just loved it. The management and staff were very helpful, and had no problems in arranging whatever we were interested in. We even chartered our own boat and managed to visit the Tobago Keys, which were beautiful islands with endless coral reefs.

We hope that we can visit Bequia and The Old Fort again in the near future.

Gingerbread Hotel, Bequia traveler review

This is the best - by far! Visited: August 2006

I have stayed at other hotels. When I stayed here, I never wanted to stay at any other place on the island.

The staff is wonderful, and the accommodations are very nice and clean. Some even come with kitchens.

I also like the fact that it is close to downtown, and you can walk anywhere.

Palm Island, Palm Island traveler review

This is our "Treasure Island". Visited: February 2007
Posted by chandler
I booked a week-long holiday on Palm Island as a surprise 50th birthday present for my husband. This holiday turned out to be everything we had wished for.

The island was beautiful, and the accommodation was very comfortable. Also, the staff was very helpful and unobtrusive, but always willing to help if asked.

The food was delicious, and the cocktails and champagne flowed very freely. The minibar was always well stocked - nothing was too much trouble.

The scenery was fantastic, and the hammocks were great fun after a few too many Kir Royales.

We would thoroughly recommend this as a real "get away from it all" holiday.

Grenadine House, Saint Vincent traveler review

It was excellent. Visited: February 2006

A group of six found Roys Inn through a friend.

We loved the hotel; the food was excellent; the service was fantastic; and the view was amazing. We loved the walk to and from the city hub - just ten minutes.

We also liked the old Colonial charm, yet with all the amentities and service was 21st century. It was lovely to have coffee on the patio overlooking the harbour.

If we could give more then five stars - we would.

Sugarapple Inn, Bequia traveler review

The Sugarapple gives a five-star welcome. Visited: February 2007
Posted by sarah_in_new_york
We recently spent ten nights at the Sugarapple Inn, and loved it. In short: they had the friendliest manager and guests on the island, beautifully planted grounds, a private kitchen, comfortable beds, excellent value, and a pool.

The Sugarapple was really lovely, from the bright and relaxing rooms with full kitchens, to the wonderful pool area. We spent a number of days just hanging at the pool and toasting banana bread in our kitchen.

Bequia had five or six beaches that you would go to, so in less than a week we had seen all the beaches and didn't feel the need to tear ourselves away from the lovely pool. Often, we would be the only people at the pool, so it felt like the best of both worlds: like renting a private house, but with Cilla to help with arrangements and reservations.

We travel a lot and are frequently disappointed by the beds, even in the fanciest places. The beds at the Sugarapple (we stayed in two of the eight rooms) were very good. We slept very well. However, bring earplugs if you don't want to wake up at 5:00 am every day to the rooster crowing!

The breeze at night was so strong I slept under a blanket. You won't miss the AC. The mosquito nets worked pretty well, but we heard a tip from a fellow guest that we would recommend: bring clothes pins to seal the gap in the net.

A nice touch at the Sugarapple was the American DVD player. If we had known, we might have brought a couple dvds as some nights we didn't feel like going into town.

I would also recommend bringing salt/pepper and sugar if you want to do any sort of food prep. Those items were expensive on the island and you'll want them. If you are a coffee person, bring plenty of coffee. I ran out halfway through the trip and it was $13 USD to buy a can of Illy.

The Sugarapple also had a beautiful deck area with swinging seats, deck chairs, tables and a grill. We saw other people using it, and would definitely try and do that the next time.

We would definitely return, and would recommend the Sugarapple without reservation to independent travelers. It is not a resort, so if that is what you are looking for then Bequia is probably not the right island for you.

This was a piece of Paradise! Visited: December 2006

My family and I stayed nine nights here during the Christmas break. We were impressed by many elements of the inn.

The gardens that suround the inn explode in glorious bloom around you. The rooms are large and spacious, and the kitchens are well equipped. We cooked a few nights in our kitchen, and barbequed on the communal deck.

Also, it's nice to have a pool on the property. I love to wake up in the morning, put on my suit and head to the pool with a good book.

Now that I am back in cold New York, my memories of the Sugarapple keep me warm and looking to return. We will certainly return to Bequia and the Sugarapple.
