Grand View Beach Hotel, Petit Saint Vincent traveler review

The people and the property were great! Visited: December 2005
Posted by raymond
The staff can make a good place great, or make a great place loathsome. The staff of the Grand View Hotel was a shining example of service and caring.

The food at the hotel itself was just fair. (One of the two restaurants at the hotel was under renovation). There were plenty of good places to eat on the island, and some really wonderful places, if you don't mind a short boat trip.

I loved having the hotel just above the beach. And having a restaurant just 25 yards or so from the beach was a plus.

They had very clean and Caribbean-feeling rooms, so we didn't feel like we were in one of any number of hotels.

This place was fine boutique hotel, with a B & B feel.

This was a great hotel - better than it looked on the web! Visited: December 2005

We were a little unsure of the rooms based on the pictures here, but we found them (and the property) to be even more beautiful than expected.

The lovely rooms we stayed in were at the south end of the hotel, and had stunning views. The staff was charming, and the rate was excellent. The only minor disappointment was the food, which ranged from fair to good, but there was other good dining nearby.

Excursions to Bequia and the rest of St. Vincent were easy to book and a great value.

It was outstanding.......and our second trip to Petit St. Vincent! Visited: July 2005
Posted by tkapperson
We have had the pleasure of visiting Petit St. Vincent twice.....August, 2004 and July, 2005. We look forward to returning again as soon as we can.

The cottages are all beautiful and offer wonderful breezes and views. The views are best from the hilltop cottages, and the beach cottages offer beautiful blue water at your feet.

The food is always varied and delicious. No matter your food preference, you will find lots to eat on their menus. We typically enjoy breakfast in our cottage, and lunch and dinner in the restaurant. Their flag system functions very well, as we have always received requested items in a timely manner.

There is as much or as little as you might choose to do at the resort. The beaches are so beautiful that it is tempting to just sit on the beach and enjoy the beauty around you all day. However, if you enjoy lots of activity, there are many options to keep you entertained.

The staff arranged a day trip for us. It was lots of fun. Be sure to buy some of their local "Very Strong Rum." We also went scuba diving with Grenadines Dive (very professional and knowledgable), and went for a daysail with Jeff on Jambalaya. Jeff cooked beef and shrimp onboard for us!

The in-cottage massages were wonderful, as well. The beach barbecues were a blast, especially Saturday night with the steel drum band. The boat shop offered many water activities, we even saw a young boy learning to drive a small boat, and then being pulled on an innertube behind the boat later that day. Snorkeling around the entire island was outstanding....there were lobsters hiding in many places near the boathouse. The hike to the top of Marni Hill is also not to be missed, as there are incredible views.

Enough cannot be said about the staff here. Hazron, Roland, Bert, Dewayne, Michael, Elvis, Kimmi, Rufus and so many more went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. They made every meal enjoyable, and entertained us with their island stories.

This was the most relaxing and peaceful vacation my husband and I have ever experienced. And it was also more beautiful than words or pictures could do justice. If you enjoy relaxation and quiet moments, this is a wonderful vacation.

It's the perfect vacation spot . . . almost. Visited: August 2003
Posted by tdpnyc
To sum it up, Petit St. Vincent Resort is phenomenal. The island is a paradise. The accommodations are very, very nice, although a tad outdated - but who cares? The staff is nice and fairly attentive. (Some are a lot friendlier than others.) Overall, we loved it and will, without a doubt, return.

However, there is one warning - not all villas are the same. All are the same price, but some are clearly superior to others. We were stuck in the only non-beach view villa on the island and were very unhappy with it. (In fact, the other guests who we spoke with, many of them return visitors, all knew that our Villa, #20, was the worst on the island.)

After some arm twisting (we had to actually speak to Haze and Lynn, the owners), they did switch us to a villa on the beach and it was beyond perfect. Although we are still having trouble accepting the fact that we had to pay the same price for the beach paradise and the inferior villa.

And do not listen to reviews saying there is nothing to do on the island. If you like the beach and water sports (snorkeling, kayaking, hobie cat sailing) and some light hiking and tennis, you will not be bored. Petit St. Vincent is the perfect vacation spot.

Sunset Shores Beach Hotel, Petit Saint Vincent traveler review

Wonderful food, warm staff and wicked rum punches! Visited: February 2001
Posted by marg5475
I have stayed at this resort yearly for over 10 years, and although it has undergone construction to improve the facility, I have never felt inconvenienced. I have always felt very safe and welcomed by the friendly staff.

The food is exceptional with lots of fresh local fish and many island specialities. The Sunday afternoon brunch with live entertainment is also an exceptional vaule. One of the highlights for me is the rum punch - you must try one to believe just how good it is. Oscar is one of the creators of this magnificent drink!

The rooms are all air-conditioned and very comfortable. They are clean and each have full baths. I enjoyed my time by basking by the freshwater pool and strolling along the white sand beach. Most of all the hotel is very conveniently located - near the airport and near town.

I would and have recommended this hotel to my friends.

What a fabulous place - are five stars enough?

They provided great food, fantastic cocktails and a really relaxed atmosphere. That's not to mention the really spectacular accommodation in very private beachfront cottages.

It was a real treasure! I hope to return.

Beautiful, private resort. Visited: July 2000

This resort is one of the prettiest we've found in the Caribbean. It’s low-key and very private.

Our only disappointment was that nearly all of the coral around the island was dead, making snorkeling less than what we had expected. If that is not a problem for you, then I can highly recommend this resort. The atmosphere was very laid-back. We loved the dogs!

Awesome, I didn't think a week could go so quickly. Visited: May 2000

For our honeymoon, my wife and I spent a glorious week at PSV. It is hard to believe that we were actually there for a whole week. The island is wonderful. We had breakfast delivered to the room every morning and generally ate lunch and dinner in the dining room (excellent food for such a small, remote island).

The only problem was in getting to the island. We had to stay overnight in Barbados before being able to catch the charter flight to Union Island. This is just an extra travel day needed to get there from the east coast of the United States.

Be King of your own island, just about! Visited: June 2001

Just got back from 5 nights at PSV and I'm glad to say that everything was great! The rainy season is just starting there, so things were a bit dry and we were impacted a little by storms, but overall the island and resort were in fine condition and provided us with some much needed relaxation and sun worship.

The food was mostly good, especially soups, and the cottages were great. We stayed in #22 first, but the evening storms were quite noisy there, so we switched over to #1 for the remaining three nights and couldn't have been happier.

Snorkeled off several beaches (but we preferred the West side) and also took a day-sail on Friendship II. Staff was accommodating, if not enthusiastic, but overall we were very impressed and will return - hopefully during winter next time.

Cotton House, Petit Saint Vincent traveler review

What a fabulous resort! Visited: August 2000

I have nothing but great things to say about the Cotton House!! I spent one week there and really never wanted to leave.

Everything was wonderful, from the rooms and delicious meals to the beaches and wonderfully attentive staff.

The resort was relatively quiet most of the time, but that's exactly what I was looking for. We went to Basil's Bar one night and had a great time.

I would suggest renting a mule to explore the island; we found some incredible beaches this way!

I highly recommend Cotton House. You won't be disappointed and you won't want to leave.

Sunset Shores Beach Hotel, Petit Saint Vincent traveler review

I loved the friendly staff and convenient location.
Posted by efw30
I was very disappointed to see the hotel under construction while my mother and I were looking for barbeque entertainment and music. For example, we could not open our window curtains to the ocean view because hired contractors were working all day. We were a little disappointed that we could not sit on the terrace to enjoy the view. We were looking so forward to entertainment closeby, but instead we had to go to another hotel for music and dancing. Further, the bathroom fan in our room was not working even after we put in complaints.

In conclusion, our stay would have been better if the entertainment we expected would have been up and running. In the future, would you kindly advise all travel agents of any construction in progress. This would lessen disappointment in what guest expects on arrival.

Thank you.

A great place to stay!!

We are a volcano research facility and this hotel was recommended by a colleague who had stayed there previously. We were there for an entire week and enjoyed every minute of it.

We were studying and taking measurements of the Soufriere volcano on the north end of the island. The hotel is close to all facilities - downtown Kingstown, airport, shops, etc.. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and polite. We will definitely stay here on our next vist and also recommend it to our fellow scientists.
