We stopped by here during a cruise.Visited: December 2007

I have just returned from a cruise, and one of our stops was St. Vincent. We decided to relax, and we were advised we could go to Beach Comber to use the pool and facilities.
The hotel looked very pleasant. The pool was small, and there were only a couple of sun beds. Most people in the restaurant area were from the cruse ship, and they were complaining about the service.
The staff was extremely slow, and did not put themselves out to calm customers who were complaining about waiting up to an hour for food. It really was a joke. They did not write down who ordered what, so as the food came out, they gave the food out on memory - which was not always right.
It was a nice hotel, but they need to sort the staff and food service issues out. In the end, people were ordering their taxis to go back to the ship.

Saltwhistle Bay Club was quiet, relaxing, breathtaking, and that was just the beach. We have stayed here for the last two years, and have enjoyed every minute.

Saltwhistle Bay Club is ideal for the secluded tropical getaway. With the Caribbean beach on one side and the Atlantic beach on the other, you are guaranteed the cool trade wind breezes so necessary in the tropics.
The accommodations all have an open second story to take extra advantage of this. The grounds and buildings are well maintained, and you couldn't ask for a more gracious host than Undina.
While the bay is perfect for swimming, the highlight of the area is the Tobago Cays. Saltwhistle is the resort with the closest proximity to these five uninhabited dream islands. Just a 15-minute boat ride gets you to the cays and snorkeling paradise. We spent an afternoon on Petite Tobaque. The island where Johnny Depp was marooned on "Pirates of the Carribean". It was perfect snorkeling , and the population was just us.
The food must be mentioned. At many all-inclusive resorts you get chicken, be ready to chow down on succulent lobster with garlic butter.
Mayreau has only 200-300 residents. The village has good food, nevertheless. If you need a mega resort vacation, Saltwhistle may not be for you. If you want a great resort, in a perfect setting, at a great value, we highly recommend it.

Saltwhistle Bay is one of the finest resorts I have ever been to, and I like peace and quiet.
The management is top notch and nature speaks for itself. The days are sunfilled and you can socialize with the yachting people who stop by everyday and anchor in the bay if you wish. The bar is the best place for this, watch out for the Mayreau Magic cocktail!
In the evenings you are usually totally alone on the beach and the moonwatching is unbelievable. My wife and I have been there three times and we would go every year but we like to mix it up travelwise. We promised ourselves we would be back every two years!!
It's not for everybody, if you like nightlife there are slim pickins', but, if you like the ocean (it's only 10 yards from the rooms) and you have a romantic bent, then this is the place for you. THIS is the place for peace, quiet, nature, and an excellent and attentive staff. Also, it's really the best value in the area considering some of the other prices of nearby resorts that don't offer one half of the privacy.
