Palm Island, Palm Island traveler review

This is our "Treasure Island". Visited: February 2007
Posted by chandler
I booked a week-long holiday on Palm Island as a surprise 50th birthday present for my husband. This holiday turned out to be everything we had wished for.

The island was beautiful, and the accommodation was very comfortable. Also, the staff was very helpful and unobtrusive, but always willing to help if asked.

The food was delicious, and the cocktails and champagne flowed very freely. The minibar was always well stocked - nothing was too much trouble.

The scenery was fantastic, and the hammocks were great fun after a few too many Kir Royales.

We would thoroughly recommend this as a real "get away from it all" holiday.

Palm Island boasts a relaxed luxury. Visited: January 2006

I traveled to Palm Island late January-beginning of February. It was a small resort with wonderful rooms, excellent food, and friendly, accommodating staff.

There was no hassle in finding a beach chair. There were plenty for everyone (or chairs by the pool).

It was just ten minutes by boat to the Tobago Cays for absolutely amazing snorkeling and swimming with sea turtles. I recommend taking the resort's power boat to the cays - they will take you where you want to go. It was relaxed snorkeling in small groups, with a great beach lunch - including grilled lobster.

It was a very laid back vacation - not much to do but swim, snorkel and eat all the incredible meals. Due to the small size of island and resort, we met and got to know just about all the guests.

did not match our expectations Visited: November 2004

We stayed at Palm Island for our honeymoon and were very disappointed with our trip. We are seasoned travelers and had done quite a bit of research before booking our honeymoon. We called the resort to re-confirm our flight from Barbados and were told that we were confirmed for the 1:30 flight on TransIsland Air. Two weeks prior were told 12:30 so we figured better safe than sorry and arrived at 10am. Upon arrival the porter took us to a different counter and told us to wait. After 15 minutes of no person in site we asked a different porter about transisland air. He told us they went out of business over 2 months ago. Problem number 1. We then managed to find a SVG airline representative that said they were flying to Union Island and they would call the resort. Great, however she came back and said we were confirmed on the next day's flight. Problem number 2. After much begging and pleading she said she might be able to get us on the 4pm flight (6 hours from then). We said fine. We arrived at Union Island, made it through customs and were greeted by a hotel staff to take us on the boat launch. Went smoothly. Upon arrival, (now dark) we were picked up and driven via golf cart to our room. It was number 29, a Palm Island room. This is where the vacation started to detoriate. The room's air-conditioning did not work well at all and was extremely loud, problem number 3. In addition, we were 10 feet away from the service entrance of the kitchen where the golf carts would make 10-15 treks back and forth beginning at 6:30 am (right next to our room). If we closed the wooden louvers we roasted. If we kept them open all of the staff could see into our room, problem number 4. Since we were informed the front desk had closed for the evening when we arrived, we went first thing the next morning. We were told there was no where to move us and that they were sorry but basically tough. To add insult to injury the maintenance staff would actually use our footbaths outside our room to rinse off with so our lack of privacy continued to erode, problem number 5. ON A POSITIVE NOTE- the food was FANTASTIC, the grenadine islands are fabulous, and the bar staff was extremly helpful and fun. However, this could not make up for the total lack of privacy and the way we were brushed off by the general manager when we complained. As a side note, he also parked the golf cart he drove next to our room too. So if you go, make sure you pay extra and get an island loft or beachfront room.

This island resort was "top notch". We did not have to ask for anything. The staff was extremely helpful. Housekeeping did a fantastic job! The staff was impecable, as was the food! The people we met were wonderful.

The ocean view from our room was breathtaking! It was a spectacular vacation! We will be returning to Palm Island for our next vacation. The only way to describe this island is "a slice of heaven"!

It was a magical experience on our own private island. Visited: November 2003

We have just returned from the most memorable vacation of our lives at Palm Island Resort. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a rum punch on the dock, to the day we left hugging the staff and guests - it was a magical moment.

The beach was one of the finest we’ve seen with nice snorkeling territory nearby. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. We loved listening to the waves crashing and birds singing from our beachfront room. The loft rooms were also very nice and were larger and had separate queen beds, larger bath and a distant view of the ocean.

The food was great in the main restaurant - especially considering the logistic challenges of a remote island. The tennis court was in good shape and we used it three days and sailed the Hobie Cat two days. The pool was very nice, though we rarely used it because the beach was so nice.

We went on one of the day sails to Tobago Cay (where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed) and it was a delightful day of sailing and snorkeling and catered lunch. We recommend the Capt Yannis catamaran over the Pink Lady. Pink Lady looked romantic, but it was a bit more cramped and slow.

The staff was especially nice and helpful. If we asked for anything, it was there before we blinked. We never missed the TV or phone. There was talk of adding those, but all the guests we talked to said it would spoil it.

The size and the laid back atmosphere of the resort made all of the guests more relaxed and friendly. We felt like we knew everyone (there were only about 50 guests during our stay) and they were all nice people -about half Brits and half Americans.

One set of new friends from our trip were travel agents who had traveled all over the world and owned property in the Canary Islands and the Bahamas and they were back for their second visit. We may just have to do the same.

Excellent service, food, accommodations, and staff! Visited: February 2003

I just returned from a seven-day stay on Palm Island with my wife, my in-laws, and my two grown children and their spouses - a total of eight adults. From the moment we arrived - and were greeted at the dock by the staff with cold rum punch for all - until we left a week later our time at Palm Island was truly exceptional.

The staff was friendly and saw to our every need. Julian, the general manager, was extremely gratious and very attentive to his guests' needs and desires. Every night's dinner menu with six entrees and five appetizers was different and Chef Jack's dishes were the absolute best I have ever had in my travels to other vacation resorts.

The rooms were remarkably clean and the housekeeping and turn down service were impeccable.

The relaxing atmosphere on the property was extremely tranquil. Having only 40 some rooms lent itself to a very peaceful holiday. The beach and ocean were both pristine and beautiful. The best snorkelling I found was between the two jetties in front of the main reception building. It was beach accessible and provided good snorkeling for either the novice or more experienced.

We took a day trip over to the Tobago Cays ($60 per person including a barbequed lunch prepared for you on a private beach)and the snorkeling along the horsehoe reef that surrounded the five small cays was outstanding.

Our group of eight ranged in age from 22 to 75 and all of us agreed it was the best vacation any of us have ever had!

My wife and I will certainly be returning again.

Fabulous food, staff, and accommodations. Visited: April 2002

From the pick-up in Barbadoes and Union Island, to the delivery of every service, we could ask for no more. The service of the travel agency, Island Resorts Tours, Cathy Londre, is complete and accommodating; always friendly and going out of their way to make the trip as comfortable as possible.

The food has been outrageuosly good for the 3 years we have gone to Palm. We have not had a "bad meal" at a Rob Barrett property in the 12 years we have traveled to Oalm and Antigua. We gain too many pounds every year. The chef brought on to Palm 2 years ago is a culinary genius. This reflects on the whole kitchen staff as well.

Our room is always clean and wonderfully furnished with the housekeeping staff friendly and thorough. The atmosphere that allows you to do something or nothing is perfect. The water is beautiful; with great snorkling and swimming.

We have found the management staff always willing to go the "extra mile" to make our stay wonderful again. We have found our "heaven on earth" place on Palm Island. The trip from JFK is always made worthwhile by the destination arrived at. Yes, we are sad to leave every year but excited about the next years trip back. The phrase, welcome home, is most appropriate for us.
