Blue Waters was wonderful. Visited: August 2008 |

My husband and I just returned from a week-long stay at Blue Waters Inn in Speyside, Tobago.
We coordinated our wedding ceremony and honeymoon directly with hotel staff, who handled every inquiry, via email and in person, (no matter how minute) with the utmost care and patience.
We checked-in early August 28, checked-out late Wednesday, September 3, and each day the housekeeping, restaurant, maintenance and office staff were warm and smiled each time we passed by. The location in Batteaux Bay was idyllic.
Housekeeping thoroughly cleaned our room each day, which was literally 40 feet from the beach, with an optimal balcony view of Little Tobago and Goat Island.
Our room rate ($107) also included free breakfast daily - anything from fresh fruit to hearty pancakes. We dined at the restaurant every day, sometimes for all three meals, and the food was excellent. The restaurant also provided for our small wedding party.
Maintenance was also prompt and attentive when fixing our broken air conditioner, which we really didn't need since the ocean breeze kept our nights comfortably cool.
The office/front desk was the best! Whenever we needed beach towels, a cash advance, rental car to visit neighboring beaches, extra toiletries, taxis to the airport, anything, they delivered without complaint or attitude.
I recommend Blue Waters Inn to anyone seeking simplicity and quiet, good food, and a relaxed, yet thoughtful staff. |

I would like to commend Blue Waters Inn for having such an amazing group of people working for them. We really couldn't have asked for more friendly, courteous, and beautiful people to be around during our stay.
I would especially like to mention some really nice people who make Blue Waters Inn the special place that it is - Amanda at reception; Sylester and Kim in the bar; Mark in maintenance; Erica, Malaika, Gillian, Pinkie, and Avion in the restaurant; Eudora in housekeeping; Karen and the entire staff of Aquamarine Dive.
These people were a large part of the reason I will return as soon as possible to Tobago and Blue Waters Inn. |

Blue Waters was fine. Visited: December 2004 |

We got a last-minute deal for a two-week stay at Blue Waters (during Christmas and New Year's). We weren't at all sure what to expect because of the vastly differing reviews and, to be honest, I can now see the logic in all of them! But to try and give a clear picture to those thinking of booking:
The hotel was fine. It was not a knockout building (in places it looked a little like a motel), but it was not bad. The rooms were big, clean and comfortable (with terrible curtains). The beach was really nice, and the bar was good. The restaurant wasn’t great (although we did have a couple of good meals). Overall, it was expensive and a bit dull. It was an easy walk to Speyside though, where there were more places to eat (although none of them were brilliant).
The diving was good – better than I expected. The dive shop was fine, but a little ‘relaxed’. I liked all of the staff, really. Some took a bit more warming up than others, but they were friendly and helpful.
The grounds were quite good – a few little walks into the forest were possible. There were a lot of birds, some of which were interesting - even to non-birdwatchers like me. There was a tennis court, a basketball hoop, table tennis, and kayaks - so there was enough to keep you active.
The atmosphere was fine, but a bit subdued. It was not a party place, but friendly enough (and I guess it depends on who's there when you are).
We drove around the island and looked at lots of other bays, and there was nowhere that stuck out as better to stay overall.
I wouldn’t go for a fortnight unless you get a cheap last-minute deal. But, I would go for a few days if you are going around the area, or want to dive. If you don’t expect it to be a luxury five-star hotel, you will be happy. If you do, you might get frustrated.

I don't recommend Blue Waters Inn. Visited: April 2004 |

We have traveled through the Caribbean islands for the lasst 15 years starting with Puerto Rice and then down the line to Trinidad. This time we visited Tobago and it was the first time that we wanted to leave an island after three days.
It was not the island that made us want to leave, it was the unfriendliest, disinterested and rudest staff we have ever encountered in all our 28 trips to the islands.
The waitresses and waiters were standing at the bar talking to each other, but didn't come to us - we had to go to them and place our order and had to take our order back to the table.
The only three words they seemed to know very well without a smile were the words "which room number". The only nice guy we encountered was the security man. Even the general manager, whom we saw for just half an hour during our horrible three days, did not seem interested in the reason we left the hotel after three days (instead of staying 11 days).
We have nothing against the location and the facilities, but this bored staff was a nightmare. Thank God we found another place. Tobago is such an beautiful island with absolutely great and lovely people. We will return to Tobago, but never to the unpleasant place - Blue Waters Inn. |

I would not stay here again. Visited: July 2003 |

Both the room and the food were the most overpriced and forgettable that we experienced during our three weeks in Tobago. Additionally, none of the staff seemed to enjoy working there. They were never rude, but it seemed like an unpleasant place to work. I don't think the outdoor garbage cans were not emptied regularly, because some areas around the hotel had a very offensive odor. The hotel's location is very pretty, but the entire island of Tobago is beautiful, so that isn't enough of a draw to make staying here worth the expense. I think that one could find much more hospitable accommodations for far less in Speyside. |

There were some good and bad points. Visited: February 2003 |

The setting was splendid, but as stated before in previous reviews, the waters were murky in February.
This was the only place on the island (we didn’t visit the Hilton) that we saw any other Americans, and they had a staff that was trained to serve and not “socialize”, so if you like a Miami/Cancun hotel atmosphere, this may be the place.
The so-called oceanview for the entire second-story wing we were on was blocked 100% by trees that had not been kept trimmed. Also, our first night before moving from our upper story room, we experienced a broken air conditioning unit (our main reason for paying the high price). The manager only returned $15 of our $160 for that night because “this was the up-charge for air conditioning back when first installed and was optional”.
We didn’t bother with the meals after seeing the prices. Instead, we ate in Speyside at the wonderful Jemma’s or drove to Charlottesville to eat at Sharon’s.
The SCUBA staff was rude or indifferent and chose to speak in their native language among themselves, rather than conversing with the customers.
We finally got moved to the lower floor which was only about eight stair steps to the beach which made up for all the other unpleasantness. However, had we remained on the upper floor, we would have moved to another hotel. If you don’t need the beach right in front of your door, and don’t mind walking across a somewhat busy road, the Manta Lodge or Speyside Inn closer to town would likely provide more contact with the local culture and a more reasonable price. |

This is the perfect place for honeymoon! Visited: February 2003 |

My husband and I stayed one week at Blue Waters Inn and we loved it.
The rooms were basic but big, clean and had a perfect view over the sea. The shipwreck bar served good food...with good prices, also the drinks were excellent! The Fishpot restaurant served basic food with high prices.
The place was the perfect hide-away, the nature was beautiful and there was a lot to do - snorkeling, divng, boat trips, etc. We had a jeep, so we drove around, to Charlotteville, and to the other end of Tobago....a perfect way to see the island!
When we come back we will definitely stay at the Blue Waters Inn! |

We stayed at Blue Waters Inn for our two-week honeymoon. We wanted to really unwind and relax, but still have things to do occasionally. Our room was basic, but reasonably spacious and quiet.
The setting was so beautiful - quite remote - but being the only building in the bay made it very private. When we were here, the beach was very quiet and empty so we never had trouble bagging the hammock to drink our cocktails in!
The beachside bar served great cocktails - all day! But the food in both the bar and restaurant was fairly average and, over two weeks, became quite boring. Actually, we found the food disappointing all over the island. However, the service in the hotel was pretty friendly and good.
Overall, we had a very relaxing holiday taking in the beatutiful scenery around the hotel and generally chilling out on the beach. |

Well this place have to be heaven on earth, but do not believe me: I've stayed at BWI in 1997 (Nov./Dec.), 1999 (Apr./May), 2000 (Apr./May) and 2000 (Sept.), so whatever I say will have to undergo great scrutiny. This is my place and I absolutely love it!
In the Speyside area not much happens, but that’s the whole idea! You go hiking, diving, snorkeling, etc. And then you enjoy one of Ancíls (great bartender!) BBC - Big Boys Cocktails, eg. Speyside Mudslide or a Bartender’s Speciality. This is the place for peace and quiet, nature, etc. If you want nightlife and hustle, stay in the Western End. Oh well, going back again in November of 2001!
