3.0 stars It was a bit disappointing. Visited: February 2008

We made reservations to stay at the Hilton for a weekend in February. The check-in time was around 3 pm. Even though we arrived at 7 pm, our room was not ready for two more hours. We had the kids with us - two of them - and they had to sleep in our arms until around 9 pm. Did I mention that I was seven months pregnant as well?

We were given a complimentary buffet dinner, but that was hardly enjoyed considering our state of mind (and the fact that a lot of the dishes were finished).

The restaurant staff was generally friendly - except for the chef making the omlette on the Sunday morning. He was a bit rude.

The entertainment left much to be desired. There was not much to do at night, and we were forced to turn in early.

All in all, the stay was lovely, though. The pool area was great, and we had great weather.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Hilton Tobago. The room was very comfortable - almost like home (yeah, that comfortable!).

Also, the food was exceptional. I can't wait to go back.

In addition, the staff was very warm and friendly. Top Kudos to Hilton!

4.0 stars It was fantastic - I can't wait to go again. Visited: February 2006

My husband and I spent the most fantastic week at the Hilton Tobago. Before we went, we had read a lot of reviews. They were not all good, but we went with an open mind.

We arrived to beautiful sunshine. The staff at the hotel was fantastic. We had a suite, and it was as lovely as we thought it would be.

All the food was okay - especially the chicken kebabs at lunchtime.

If I could have changed anything, it would have been the outside staff that worked on and around the golf course. I felt very intimidated by a lot of them.

I suggest you not walk around that side of hotel. Stay on the other side where are there are lots of other people. Don't be put off going, though. It really is a beautiful hotel. Just be careful.

3.0 stars Unconvinced Visited: February 2005

I am sorry that I do not share the rave reviews that are given to this hotel. We recently returned from a 2 week all inclusive break at the Hilton and feel that I must have been visiting a different hotel to most of the other reviewers.

I felt that it was very poorly managed especially in the restaurant and bar areas. The staff were generally friendly (if a little surly) but in the restaurants no one seemed to know what their job was. Unless you went for the buffet in The Plantation Restaurant you could be waiting for some time to even see a waiter let alone order food or drink. On no less than 3 occaisions in the second week my wife and I ordered identical meals from the a la carte menu. Three quarters of an hour later one meal arrived. When we eventually caught up with the waiter he insisted we had only ordered one meal! This happened I repeat 3 times in one week. On each occaision they expected one of us to get on with the meal and wait for the other. When they were asked to serve both meals together the earlier meal was brought out shrivelled up.

I cannot for the life of me see how this hotel gets a 5 star rating. I think it needs an injection of new management and it may then justify 4 stars.

I admit the facilities were good , the rooms ok (perhaps a little smaller than expected) and the location is lovely . Be careful at the beach though as the side currents are VERY strong and in my view unsafe for children. There ae large waves and the current to contend with and no lifeguard.
I hope other peoples experiences are better than mine and that I only had a one off bad second week at the hotel. Unless you have children my advice would be to go room only and hire a car so that you can see the rest of the island and eat where you please. The Plantation Restaurant at buffet times felt to me like feeding time at the zoo.. The Coral Reef Restaurant likes to think of itself as more upmarket. It is certainly more stuffy which it seemed some of the guests preferred, especially the older ones, and it was quieter but it lacked any sort of atmosphere.
Having spoken to people who visited other hotels on the Island the standards appear to be on the low side. All I would urge people to appreciate is that the Hilton Tobago is a far far cry from the Groups flagship hotel in London. The 2 should not be confused.

5.0 stars I had a wonderful experience! Visited: January 2005
Posted by shawna1
I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for just one night in January.

The staff for starters was the most friendly I have ever encountered in Tobago. And seeing that this was the ninth hotel that I stayed at in Tobago, it says a lot. They were very attentive and they catered to our every need.

Also, the property was very well kept. The east coast of Tobago was very wind swept, but that just created a wonderful experience in the balcony of our room. I fell asleep on the lounge chair located there. The pool was very inviting, and all in all, the stay was very memorable!

3.0 stars Luxury? I didn't think so. Visited: November 2004

I found it to be tired, dated, and in need of an upgrade (in every department). I was served average food, and the bar staff seemed surly and ignorant. It was not what I would expect from a four-star luxury hotel.

Also, the entertainment was for the "over 80" crowd in the only nightime bar. Perhaps I am just used to Dubai. At least I got what I paid for there. I don't recommend a stay here.

This is a beautiful hotel. However, be aware that the beach isn't Caribbean, it is on the Atlantic. The beach is rocky, too.

There is also lots to see and do here.

5.0 stars The Hilton is an excellent hotel, with great staff and facilities. Visited: May 2004

This was our second trip to Tobago, and we stayed at the Hilton on both occasions. The staff was very friendly, and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

The food in the Coral Reef Restaurant was excellent and a very good value. The bufffet nights in the plantation restaurant were good as well. Breakfast was a good buffet, with a wide selection of fresh fruit, cooked food and pastries, etc.

The Robinson Crusoe bar was busy at weekends.

The Dive Centre was also excellent. Rikki, Andre, Marvin and staff were all superb, and all of the diving was great. They organized trips to Speyside as well as the dive sites on the southwest of the island.

Overall, it was a great hotel, and we have already booked for next year.

5.0 stars We had the best holiday ever. Visited: February 2004

We stayed in February 2004. The staff was fantastic and great fun. There was nothing that was too much trouble for them.

The beach and pool were perfect - as was our suite. We enjoyed waking up to the sound of waves, taking long walks and eating very well.

Also, when we went out - day or night, we felt very safe. The taxi service was outside the lobby to take us anywhere on the island and wait to bring us back.

You must try the goat and crab racing, and Sunday School. We are on our way back in March 2005 and we can't wait. It feels like we are going home!

As the tee-shirt reads: "If Heaven doesn't want me, take me back to Tobago". Try the Hilton. All the staff will make you feel very special.

4.0 stars We had a very relaxing Christmas break. Visited: December 2003
Posted by jean_morris525
We spent Christmas and New Year at the Hilton Tobago and had a wonderful time.

We like to relax over Christmas and hadn’t planned to hire a car, so we did spend most of the time at the hotel. We were a little concerned about eating at the hotel every night, but the food was excellent.

The Coral Reef Restaurant was great, we ate there on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve, each with a special dinner menu. We also ate there on another evening and had the normal menu. The Plantation Room had a choice of a la carte or buffet each night, most nights the buffet had a theme (Italian, Mediterranean, etc).

The pool area was good and it was fairly easy to get a lounger, though I’m not sure what would happen when the hotel is fully occupied. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t very windy as other visitors had found, I guess we were lucky. We had a gentle breeze all the time we were here and it was so hot we really needed that!

The only downside to the hotel was the rooms, which were pretty basic. The room we were in smelled very musty and damp when we first arrived, this seemed to disappear after a few days, so maybe the room hadn’t been used for a while.

We had two separate thefts while we were here. We had a CD player, cassette player and Gameboy (all in a case) stolen from our bag around one of the satellite pools. We had left them there while we went to the bar and when we came back it was really quiet as everybody else had gone, and the items were missing. I know it was our own fault for leaving them, but we didn’t expect that.

Also, we had a ring and necklace stolen from our room (I’d taken them off to avoid getting suntan lotion on them and hadn’t put them in the safe, I thought they were well hidden). We didn't let this spoil our holiday, though.

5.0 stars This was a great hotel to get married in. Visited: August 2003
Posted by kcaldeira
My husband and I got married at the Hilton. It was the most romantic day of our lives and it was all thanks to the amazing staff at the hotel.

The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The hotel was very well kept and the food was exquisite. We had a lot of our 200 wedding guests stay at the hotel also, and they all had only good things to say about the service and the facilities.

Sean, the wedding planner on staff, was one of a kind. He and the rest of the Hilton staff worked very hard to make our day the perfect one it was.

My husband and my only regret was that we left the island for our honeymoon. So, we have promised to go back to the Hilton every year until we renew our vows in August 2012 at the Hilton Tobago.

3.0 stars The Hilton Tobago is a good hotel. Visited: July 2003

It's not the most beautiful property in the West Indies, but certainly a good one. It has everything you need - tennis, diving (the resort course is in a purpose built diving pool followed by an excellent beach dive) and good swimming.

I stayed with children in a two-bed suite with extra room. It was maybe a bit small by US standards, and service - although willing and always smiling - was very poor and slow. Food, however, was very good and all the staff was very nice and friendly.

It was not very romantic, but was a practical choice for families in the summer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The buffet breakfast was amazing, and the staff was very friendly. I definitely would visit again.

At the moment, the Hilton has to be among the best bargains in the Caribbean. The rooms are spacious; the bathrooms are great (marble, glassed-in shower, separate tubs, plenty of storage); and the staff is friendly, if not always efficient.

Also, the food is good -- Tobago is not known for gourmet food. The beach isn't exactly swimmable, but the main pool (there are three) is huge and the hotel offers a free shuttle to a white-sand calm beach. We had a great time.

I am from Trinidad, and I love to visit Tobago. My husband and I decided to try the Hilton, and it was great.

The pool was fabulous and the breakfast was excellent. However, we did not like lunch too much, and dinner was not very good. I think for room service they should change the menu every day.

Other than that, it was fabulous - money well spent. The staff was great and I would highly recommend Hilton Tobago to anyone.

4.0 stars Room was great, but beach and food needed improvement. Visited: July 2002

I loved the room. The bathroom was great. The room spacious...

The food was bland and too "Americanized". When I go to an island I want a taste of local food and spices.

The beach could of been prettier if they cleaned up the trash that swept from the sea. No grounds keeper for the beach.

5.0 stars Hilton is huge, under occupied, and great for golfers wanting space Visited: February 2002

As busy parents with four young children, we needed a break. I chose the Hilton as we're not 'good 'with very commercial resorts.Tobago did not let us down.

If you want a beach holday, however, I feel this may not be the best choice. It is exeptionally windy all the time, and can be quite tiring if you aren't used to it. The hotel does provide a complimentary bus to the Pigeon Point Beach whereby entry is on payment of a few dollars. It's rather like a private beach club - very nice, but you wouldnt want to go every day.

There were excellent golfing facilities, which the majority of the guests used by day, (we never did, and noticed that the hotel was empty by day).

It got dark very early. I would advise guests to go all-inclusive, arrive in the bar for pre-dinner drinks at 6.30, and sit down at 8:00. The hotel was quiet when we went, but as the usual trade would predominantly be Americans and businessman on a golfing jaunt!

The facilities were not all open so I can't comment on them. The food on the whole was good, and the buffet was changed daily. Some evenings, they served local, Italian, etc.

We will be returning this year with the children, one of whom is nut allergic and the other gluten. The nut allergy is the one to watch as it can be fatal. I spoke to the conference and banqueting manager, who was not phased by this and gave me assurances and explained their procedures. I have every confidence in bringing my allergic daugter here.

We did have a lot of trouble with the plumbing, but this was dealt with very professionally by the hotel manager. The rooms were of a good standard and size, with complimentory mineral water and tea. The bathrooms came with complimentary robes, soaps, etc.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get away from the crowds, enjoy 'going native' (i.e. going into the rainforest at the crack of dawn, or likes to play golf. It is a faulous hotel with professional staff.

This was a beautiful property with great service, people cared. They did all within their power to make our stay wonderful.

The food very good. My sweetie and I were able to pick our live lobsters for dinner at poolside. The pool was fabulous and well maintained. You could swim anytime you wanted. I would start out at 5.30 am and there was at least one gentleman from England swimming with me. This was a very lovely holiday.
