Reconsider if you plan to stay at the Tropikist. Visited: April 2008 |

I had read all the reviews of hotels on the island of Tobago here. Of them all, our tour operator decided on the Tropikist as it was the only hotel close to the airport that was a great deal - or so we thought.
We arrived, and yes, it was close to the airport - very close. It was next to the landing strip.
The overall look of the hotel was like taking a step back in time. The hotel was run down and faded, and could do for a good coat of paint. The hotel's sign was falling apart, and was very tacky.
The receptionists were welcoming - and about the only people at the hotel who were friendly. The maids were okay, but they didn't talk much. They would not speak if you didn't speak to them. The bar staff, by far, was the most rude of all. The restaurant staff appeared as if they were doing us a favor at serving us.
The rooms, I must admit, all had nice views of the ocean. Also, they all had balconies or patios, which was very nice. The beds were old and dated, and need to be updated or changed. The fridge was a small, very old piece of equipment that didn't really work and only made noise. It was rusted, to say the least, and I was afraid of opening it in fear of getting infected - not to mention the health issues.
The shwower needs a proper cleaning, and there was limescale build up on the faucets and fixtures. The door didn't work, and most guests said they didn't even lock.
The restaurant was not organized properly, and it didn't help to complain. I suggest you just avoid this hotel. |

This was truly a magical hotel. I spent last Easter here with my family, and it was the best ever.
They served great food, and we received top-of-the-line service and respect all the way. Service was at our finger tips.
You should definitely check it out once you are in Tobago. |

I could elaborate at length about our how bad our experience was at the Tropikist, but we discovered that someone had already stated it more eloquently by etching a few words into the drawer of the bedside table: “This is the worst hotel ever. Good luck here.” |

I am a very close friend to a staff member of this particular hotel and iI am a first hand witness to the harsh and horrible treathment that my friend recieves. First of all management is so cheap that they under pay them $7. instead of the $8. which was promised to them upon the interview. The conditions they work on is very poorly 8hrs a day and the enviroment is very harzardous to their healths, imagine a very high class hotel infestesd with mosquitoes. The guest themselves are complaining to the staff about these little parasites. I will strongly advice any one not to work or book rooms at this hotel................... |

What a great place to stay and relax. Visited: May 2003 |

I have just returned from the Tropikist Hotel in Tobago and have nothing but compliments for the staff, the management
and the owners of this hotel.
The rooms were clean. The breakfast was self service, and I cannot understand one of the reviewers complaining about, `waiting for toast`. Obviously, this person had not visited the Caribbean before, and was not familiar with the laid-back attitude of the West Indies.
The food was well prepared, to a high standard and the staff were always doing their best, to please the guests.
The facilities offered by the hotel with its two pools, jacuzzi overlooking the ocean, with the sound of the waves lapping against the shore day and night were so relaxing. Added to that, dining in the restaurant overlooking the sea, sipping a rum punch to the music of live steelband, was just fantastic.
I strongly recommend Tropikist Beach Hotel, for its ambience, location and wonderful staff.
I will return here in preference over any other hotel on the island. |

I loved the Tropikist. Visited: April 2003 |

We stayed here, and it was a lovely property. It was very intimate and had an extremely friendly staff. There were two lovely pools, and each offered a lot of privacy to guests.
We really enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean in the evening. Our room was very large for a standard room, so we appreciated this on a long holiday. Also, the food at the hotel was good and we enjoyed the local entertainment - especially the pan side. We loved our experience at the Tropikist. It was just what we needed and we look foward to coming back soon. |

A good value and very comfortable place to stay. Visited: April 2003 |

My husband and I spent a very relaxing 14 nights at Tropikist. We booked a deluxe room and were very impressed by how spacious and well appointed the room was. Also, the balcony looked across a small patch of grass directly onto the sea - very nice especilly in the afternoon as the sun set on this side of the island.
Nice touches in the room included an iron and ironing board, and the bathroom was quite smart with double hand basins made from marble.
The main swimming pool was wonderful. It was quite large and free form in style. The pool meandered around the garden with lots of pretty vegatation around. The pool also had a waterfall, shallow kids section (whole pool was quite shallow and child friendly). Plus, there were bar stools in the water so you could order a drink from the water. We very much enjoyed the open air jacuzzi which looked onto the sea.
The beach was only for sunbathing as the coral made swimming here unadvizable. There were two sun terraces - both with excellent sea views and generally very quiet.
We had breakfast each morning which was quite adequate. For lunch and dinner, we ate in a variety of places (plenty to choose from nearby) and in the hotel's main Sunset Grill a few times. The food was okay if not very exciting, and service on occasions was slow (the whole island operated at a slow pace)!
The hotel was quite quiet and very relaxing with many people out exploring the island, snorkeling, windsurfing, etc. at Pigeon Point.
There was a mix of nationalities at the hotel, including quite a few from the UK, Germany, Sweden and few people over from Trinidad.
My brother in-law has just booked for August with his two young children and I hope they have as good a time as we did. |

This was an exceptionally courteous and comfortable resort. Visited: March 2003 |

Tropikist offered a warm, intimate atmosphere on an ideal location overlooking the ocean. The staff provided friendly services many times beyond what was expected. The owners, who were always available on the premises, were courteous and always concerned that we were enjoying our stay. They were obviously proud of their resort and wished to maintain its good reputation.
We thought we received exceptional good value for the rates at this resort. In addition, the food at the restaurant and the manicured maintenance of the rooms and the other facilities were excellent.
The location overlooking the ocean offered many evenings of unforgettable sunsets.
I have traveled all over the world, both for business and leisure. Comparatively, Tropikist offered one of the best resort values in my travels.
While at this resort, I met many people from other lands. Many were regulars who returned every year. They all seemed to enjoy the place as much as I was enjoying it.
I have no hesitation in recommending this great value to my friends and to whoever wants to enjoy the sun, the sea and the serenity of Tobago comfortably in a friendly environment.
I plan to visit Tobago and stay at the Tropikist for many more years.

A very nasty experience. Visited: January 2003 |

While the hotel itself is quite nice the same cannot be said for the owners. Our party of six booked a two-week stay at the Tropikist in January 2003. Four of us were on an all-inclusive rate.
After a few days we became upset with the standard of service. The staff was so slow! Meals took a long time to arrive (sometimes as much as two hours), and when served, the food was always cold. The quality of food was not good either, beef always tough and steak inedible. Breakfast was a nightmare, tables not cleared, no clean cups or cutlery, not enough hot water, a four slice domestic toaster for which there was an endless queue. After three days we’d had enough and asked to be taken off the all-inclusive option. The hotel manager agreed and put us on the bed and breakfast option immediately.
I don’t think this was taken kindly by the owners. Firstly, they tried to charge the same rate for room and breakfast as for all-inclusive and when we disagreed they dropped the price, but would not give us the same rate as our two friends who were already on that option and had booked the holiday for us. When we spoke with the owners they became quite nasty. We explained that we had two injured people in our party who had been treated by the doctor the previous night and we agreed to pay the rate they insisted on.
The reservations clerk then filled the forms with the new rate and tried to charge us for two extra days all-inclusive. When we questioned this she told us to pay our bill. In settling our bills they ripped us off by charging extra that they should not and as they had taken our money up front there was nothing we could do to stop this, so we signed the refund slips. We asked them to provide an itemized bill so we would know what we were charged for and they adamantly refused. At this time one of the owners came out of the office and hurled a barrage of abuse and profanity at us. To stop any further abuse we called the police so we could finish the business in peace and leave.
As we were not the only ones who complained, I can only conclude that they care about no one. They put us out in the street in a country 4,000 miles from home and with two injured people. They were unconcerned that we had nowhere to go, or what would happen to us. They ruined the first week of our holiday!

Tropikist Beach is a good place to stay. Visited: August 2002 |

My husband, son and I stayed at Tropikist during a time when I was deeply stressed. I was seven months pregnant and stressed from a fullt ime job and having an eight-month-old son.
Our time spent here was very lovely. The view from the deluxe rooms was spectacular and the sunsets were fantastic. I received good service from the staff working here. As I was traveling with a baby and was pregnant, they made me very comfortable. They heated water, boiled bottles and gave us a crib for the baby. All I had to do was ask.
Thank you, Tropikist - the owners, whom I met whilst I stayed; the manager, Mr. R. Ramkissoon; Ramesh; and Savitri. Thank you all for making my stay here very relaxing and stress-free.
I do intend to visit again soon (with my second child). I know the pools will be just as lovely as before. I look forward to it. Unlike other hotels in Tobago, the staff at Tropikist make locals feel welcomed! |

We stayed here for one week this spring. The accommodation was very nice. We enjoyed the stay very much.
The only disappointing thing was the staff. The rooms were cleaned sometimes at 4:00 p.m. The bartenders were not able to mix drinks. Sometimes they did not have all the ingredients and sometimes they did not know how to make the drinks.
The dinner was very good, just a little expensive. However, the waitresses were slow. Also, the breakfast was cold sometimes and you had to wait for your coffee all the time.
But, I guess that was just the Caribbean style and you have to take it as it is. |

Made reservation to be married here. Visited: December 2001 |

We made reservations to be married at this resort and even had a confirmation at the resort when we arrived. But when we arrived, they were not prepared. There was no management in sight and everyone acted like it was not their problem. We did not have our ceremony, but my point is that they made no preparations, not one! |

I believe this resort was very beautiful. I had a great time here this weekend and would go back for another vacation. I was a little disappointed in the service of the bartenders, because they would never come up to you or ask you if you were okay. You would have to go to them for a drink, but overall I still had fun and would recommend it to all my friends and family. |
