Staying at the Blue Mango was a dream. Visited: May 2009 |

Staying here was an absolute dream. For the past two years, my husband, son and I have spent time in the Sweet Point cottages. They are wonderful "off the beaten path" gems.
The Blue Mango is for travelers who are looking to lose themselves in tranquility. If you are looking for a place jam packed with tourists, the Blue Mango and Castara Bay are not for you. We find it to be both romantic and family friendly at the same time.
The peace and quiet of the lovely surroundings are just my idea of a vacation. We enjoyed the hummingbirds and butterflies that visited, and the sounds of the ocean.
Both my husband and I are artists, and found our stay to be truly inspiring. This year we had planned to further explore Tobago and were so happy in Castara Bay we didn't start the car once.
The Blue Mango offers private balconies, and the bay views are just wonderful from sunrise to sunset. Some nights we even took our dinners to go so we could spend more time relaxing under the stars on ours. My husband even counted 13 shooting stars in two nights this year.
Breezes through the rooms were delightful. The cottages were comfortable and nicely decorated so that they had a wonderful island feel. They were rustic, but cleanly and well appointed with linens.
Having a kitchen in our room is ideal traveling with a child. It offered everything I needed to prepare meals and keep us well equipped with cold rum drinks. Visits from "the fruit king" put fresh mangoes bananas, watermelons and oranges right at our finger tips and the local grocery offered any items we needed.
Having hot water in our shower was a nice surprise. Those in the know will tell you this not always an "off the beaten path" luxury. Much to our liking there were not phones to ring and interrupt unwinding or televisions to remind of the outside world. There was, however, wireless Internet to use on which we sent messages home bragging of how much fun we were having.
The beach in Castara Bay was lovely - white sand, clear water and calm waves. It was quite satisfying to see tour boats show off the bay and know you get to just stay there. Watching the fishermen pull in the daily catch was even an event. They do sell to local restaurants and eating the king fish, dolphin or mahi mahi straight out of the ocean was just divine (not to mention the yummy curry delights).
Snorkeling off the beach to the right side of the bay was also nice. We saw parrot, angel, puffer needle fish and more. Having lots of schools of fish swimming all around was so peaceful. We were able to float on top of the ocean with absolute ease. There was even another small beach around the curve of rocks that was easily accessed.
Colin, Rebecca and Trinity have made the Blue Mango a home away from home for us. In every way they helped us to be comfortable and enjoy our stay. They became more than owners of the place we stayed - more like friends.
If a small hike to a waterfall interests you, simply inquire and they will explain how to get there. This was the case with most anything we asked for. Rebecca even shared some of her plans for the Clay Kitchen restaurant they are renovating. I cannot wait to return and enjoy the ambiance and tasty local treats we discussed.
My only complaint would have been that we would have loved to stay longer. My family is already day dreaming of our next stay at the Blue Mango. |

I would not recommend staying here. Visited: April 2009 |

Castara was a lovely place to stay, but I would not recommend staying at the Blue Mango Cottage. We stayed here for two nights and quickly realized that for the same price, we could have stayed at some other gorgeous accommodations.
It was very noisy (cars driving in and out all night headlights directed at our window completely waking us up). Also, many of the kitchen appliances did not work (toaster, stove). The security wasn't the greatest, as there was a big open space in the kitchen area where anyone could climb through.
In addition, the decor was very unattractive. My main complaint, though, has to be the noise during the night. The amount of car and people traffic in that area really disturbed our sleep. |

Shoddy accommodation at rip-off prices. The rude and egotistical owner was the final straw. His wife was the only saving grace. No thank you! |

Castara is heaven and the Blue Mango is just over the hill. Visited: March 2004 |

The Blue Mango is perfectly situated on the hill; you have a nice cool breeze and a beautiful view - except from the Blue Mango cottage, which is disappointing. Make sure you ask where your accommodation is located on the property.
Castara is a charming fishing town with a wonderful beach, especially the little bay side is very nice. The Clay Kitchen restaurant is no longer what it used to be, but there are other places around were you can have okay to good meals. |

Awful - Dirty, bad service, poor food Visited: October 2003 |

Their website made it out to be fantastic, but is was far from that.
The rooms and area are extremely dirty, the welcome was non-existant, the "clay kitchen" was terrible and the food was poor.
Getting to the beach after raining was dangerous, especially for my 2 children. Rebecca and Colin assured me that the place was totally safe - absolutely ridiculous.
It was WAY overpiced for what you get. We ended up leaving and going to Canoe Bay Resort, for which we got a MUCH better and new room, better beach, better food and service, for a quarter of the price.
I just don't know how the other people liked it there - they must have VERY low standards indeed. |

Blue Mango is total escapism mixed with true local environment. Visited: April 2003 |

Once we'd moved into Sea Steps, Colin came to check and see if we were okay after three days - he was worried because no-one had seen us. Truth was, we couldn't think of any reason to leave the house and private beach - it was so perfect.
In fact, it was so good that I'll never understand how Colin can bear to let other people stay here , but you'll be delighted that he does! If you like to fall asleep to the sound of surf and the view of the stars - this is for you. Enjoy! |

The perfect place for a "get away from it all" holiday. Visited: April 2003 |

We stayed in Cliff Hanger. It was well equipped, including mosquito nets. We enjoyed a beautiful view over the smaller secluded beach at Castara, where there was excellent swimming and snorkeling.
Many birds visited our balcony. It was the place to watch the sun set and the birds at dawn as the sun rose over the hills behind! The proprietor was very courteous, knowledgeable and helpful - particularly important if you want to organize trips, car hire, banks, etc.
Breakfasts in the Clay Kitchen were varied, informal and relaxed, with an opportunity to meet the few other guests. The Clay Kitchen was unfortunately mainly closed at night as the chef was unwell during our stay - however our cottage kitchen was well equipped, and there was a good restaurant on the beach (Boathouse).
The Cottage was kept clean and well serviced with regular linen changes. The locals in Castara were friendly and helpful. The shops in Castara were fine your everyday needs. |

A charming, secluded, and beautifully situated haven. Visited: April 2003 |

The Blue Mango Cottages were located in the charming and colorful village of Castara. We stayed in 'Sea Steps', which had a marvelous, secluded heavenly hide-away on the edge of the sea.
The owner was wonderfully charming, witty and dedicated to enhancing guests' stay. The accommodation standard was first class. |

An idyllic location on Heavenly Bay. Visited: March 2003 |

We spent a fantastic week here in Castara, perched on the hillside overlooking Heavenly Bay.
Crashing waves and exotic birds were the only sounds (apart from the odd bit of reggae!).
If you want peace and quiet and your own piece of paradise, this is the place to go. |

This was our first stay at Blue Mango and we have been enchanted. Visited: February 2002 |

This is our fourth holiday in Tobago, but only our first stay at Blue Mango.
We were enchanted by the varied wildlife whilst sitting and watching from the deck. The birds were a joy and with such a magnificent backdrop and the constant sound of the surf, it was like living in a treehouse and being part of the scenery.
Our visit enabled us to stop the clock of our busy lives and recharge our batteries.
We do hope to return sometime. I'm sure we will, as this island was surely a little part of paradise.
Thank you Colin and Rebecca.

Our first glimpse of the stunning view from Sea Steps took our breath away. The thoughtful design brought the beauty of this place right into our bedroom with the panorama over our own beach and the Caribbean sea stretching to the horizon, dotted with a few fishing boats. We soon realized we had found heaven on earth.
Daily we would wake with the morning light and maybe watch a humming bird in the garden or the swooping sea birds over the waves. Then maybe we would bathe for hours in the warm water, help the fishermen pull in their nets or explore the amazing coral reef. Our daughter (age 10) made friends with the local children and had a wonderful time playing for hours in the sea. The sand slopes gently into the water so that swimming is absolutely safe. Almost every day there were magnificent sunsets over the sea followed by wonderful star filled skies.
Luck was on our side, for five mornings we watched up to fifty dolphins play - it might have been fishing - in the bay. |
