It was not quite what was online.
The terrace that appears to be made of beautiful wooden floors - is just plain old tile. Also, the owner - what a joke. She does not seem to have a clue how to run a hotel. She does not know how to manage staff, and seemed to be quite the weasel. |

Half Moon Blue is a little slice of heaven. Visited: May 2006 |

My wife, son and I had the most amzing holiday in Tobago. Half Moon Blue Hotel was a great choice because the atmosphere was just what we needed - stylish, friendly with a down to earth luxury.
It is a great idea to rent a car, so you can go explore different parts of the island. There were so many beaches to explore and eco tours to take. The variety of birds and flowers was astounding.
The rum punches at the Half Moon Blue were superb, a great way to wind down on the verandah watching the sun go down. Also, many thanks to the staff, Asha and Sheema, who took such great care of us and our son. We will definitely be back soon. |

Half Moon was not quite Paradise. Visited: May 2006 |

Despite the web site description, the hotel was decent - but not luxurious by United States standards. I would equate it to a Holiday Inn at best.
The positives included the price, the proximity to Bacolet Bay Beach, and the view of the ocean.
On the negative side, the variety and quality of the food available in the hotel restaurant was disappointing. The prices were outrageous, presumably because there were precious few dining options in the area.
The room was cute, but the bed was rock hard (causing back pains), and it squeaked at every turn. Plus, the walls were very thin. We were routinely awakened by crowing roasters and barking dogs at 4:00 am! Not to mention what our neighbors may have heard from inside of our room.
Bacolet Bay Beach was the only option in walking distance. If guests would want to do more than lay on the beach, I suggest you develop a relationship with a reliable taxi driver.
Lastly, a simple request (made at check in) to split the bill equally between two credit cards was not honored. I asked the manager, Asha Jarrett, to correct the error. Ms. Jarrett, immediately made excuses and threatened me with additional administrative charges to correct their error. At that point, it was obvious that customer service was not a priority. It has been almost three weeks, and the error has not been corrected. |

We spent ten amazing days in Tobago in Feb./Mar. 2006 and are ever so happy that we made the decision to stay at Half Moon Blue.
If you like to go on holidays to have a relaxing break, enjoy each other's company and experience the "local atmosphere" and beauty - this is the place to be.
Half Moon Blue is situated a ten-minute walk outside Scarborough, 15-20 minutes drive from the more commercial Pigeon Point and west coast, and a two-minute walk from Bacolet Bay. At Bacolet Bay, the water is not green, but it is great to swim in, and you get the palm trees and a small bar/lunchplace.
As per usual, you get what you pay for. We were happy with the spacious and clean, but simple Blue Room we stayed in. The decor was sparse in the room, but relaxing in our four-poster bed (tasteful even by Scandinavian standards), and looking out over the ocean was great. We spent many romantic evenings out on the balcony, drinking yummy Carib and enjoying the seaview and the beautiful flowers in the garden.
The small overflow pool had an amazing view, and served its purpose on those days we didn't want to expose ourselves to the sun down at the beach. The hotel had three good Suzuki jeeps for hire (at $50/day), and on those days we wanted to go on an outing, we could just pick up the keys in the morning.
Both before and during our stay, we found that the staff kept a low profile, but were most helpful when we needed assistance.
Try simple, but very tasty local dishes in the restaurant, and have your own initiative to organize your outings.
During our stay, we also got married at a civil ceremony in Scarborough, and Gloria and her staff really made every effort to make sure we had a great day. We found chilled bubbly in our room upon arrival. |

Half Moon Blue Hotel was naturally beautiful. Visited: February 2006 |

This time we chose to stay in Tobago during Carnival time, which was a lot more laid back than Trinidad. We had no regrets.
We played plenty of golf at the plantation course, and toured the island a few times. I recommend you hire a jeep, since nobody should miss the chance to explore some of the most beautiful and exciting sceneries of the Caribbean. The beaches of Charlotteville, Parlatuvier, Speyside are natural beauties.
We spent most of the evenings at the veranda of our hotel, sipping cocktails and watching the waves of the sea. The room was great. It was very tastefully decorated and genereously designed.
Thanks to the staff - Asha and Shema in particular. We had a fantastic time in Tobago! |

As a travel agent, I have toured the Caribbean quite a lot the past two years. I came upon the half moon blue by accident, and decided to spend a few days.
I must admit, it is one the sweetest and real spots on the islands. They provided spacious rooms. I also encountered many delightful people here. |

This hotel probably was nice in its day. However, it is now tired, and the staff seems indiferent.
I can reiterate comments posted about the dogs and things. My wife and I were due to stay for ten days, but left after four.
Do not be pushed into paying your full bill before your stay is up. You will not be refunded. I suspect many have left early, and it has become standard ploy to ask for money first. Fortunately, my card security prevented me from faying the full amount.
It was also more than a few steps to the beach! And if you are a lone couple, and other guest have kids, forget the pool. The area was too small.
The restaurant was just about okay. However, one evening the cook (not quite what I would consider a chef) decided we were staying too late. He proceeded to go outside, move his car as close as he could to the restaurant on the main road, open the doors of the car and turn up his car HiFi untill the noise drove us out!
It was not quite what we had in mind for a relaxed holiday. We moved to a small hotel at Black Rock, and it was everything that this was not! Despite being ripped off, I was glad to see the back of this place and its disinterested staff. |

Concerning Rod from Lytham Visited: March 2005 |

I am sorry to hear the quite negative review of Mr Rod from Lytham who stayed at the hotel in March. I was there at the same time and I remember him. He spent one week and seemed to have had a good time. After a two-days trip to Trinidad he decided not to stay for the second week at the hotel as he has originally booked. He must have found a cheaper accommodation and wanted to move out. He became very furious when told that a standard cancellation fee will be charged. He then threatened the management--in the presence of guests like myself--to taint and spoil the reputation of the hotel over the internet. Well, the hotel is a far cry from being shabby. It is a small, cute and an elegant boutique hotel!

This small, shabby hotel offered a taste of paradise, especially in the ads. But when we got past the front desk, the hotel - particularly the rooms - were tired, shabby and in need of some refurbishment. There was rusted fitting, dirty windows and torn lounger covers on the balcony which gave us some indication of the dilapidated state.
The location had excellent views, but was particularly noisy with the forest dawn chorus - although pleasant. The constant barking of neighbouring dogs eventually drove us out of the penthouse suite - and the owner accepted no responsibility for our financial loss. In fact, we felt the manager demonstrated a good degree of arrogance towards us.
If it was near an airport, you would accept aircraft noise and be warned before arrival. But the ads we read seemed to reflect a distorted story. Also, the building construction (louvered walls) let such sound in, that those barking dogs may as well have been in the room with.
We found in this case that bark was worse than the bite! |

We had a wonderful time in Tobago, which had a lot more character than Antigua where we stayed last year.
Our hotel was very sweet. The service was very personal. Also, the rooms were elegant and a lot larger than any of the four-star hotels we have stayed in the past years.
Initially, we were hoping for more night life on the island, but we got used to the wonderful tranquility rather quickly. |

I just returned from a week's stay at this gorgeous little hotel at Bacolet Bay.
Half Moon Blue at the donkey cart house was run by lovely people. We rented a jeep, and cruised around the island almost every day- except for the time when we would soak in the overflow swimming pool overlooking the sea. The island had two 18-hole golf courses - and the rates were reasonable. I hope to be back next Carnival. |

Half Moon Blue Hotel was exceptionally surprising with its simple elegance and restfulness. This was the perfect place to get back in tune with myself. Tobago and my stay at the hotel put back all the energy that I had lost. |
