This is a fabulous Essex cottage. Visited: February 2008

I spent three wonderful weeks at Gloucester Place in the stunningly placed cottage. It was truly like being in a tree house that is entered from a quiet road.

The location, accommodation and owners (Bea and Win) were all fantastic.

We will be back - what more can I say? It was perfect!

We enjoyed relaxing in Paradise. Visited: January 2008

Gloucester Place is really paradise. We stayed here for some days around New Year, and we enjoyed every moment. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by beauty: stylish objects from different places in the world, and sharing memories from different places in the world. Also, there was the sea, nature, the parrots, cocoricos, and the stars.

We had a terrific room with a view over the Caribbean Sea, but there are several intriguing places in the garden to sit and relax: for instance deep down near the waterfall.

And what hospitality! We felt free everywhere in the house, on the balcony reading the newspaper overlooking garden and sea, in the kitchen for ice and cool beer.

The breakfast was an event. Every minute, other products showed up: freshly picked bananas and the best peanut butter came together with experimental donuts or pancakes.

Gloucester Place was in the neigborhood of Englishman’s Bay, but why should you go there? You have the beach of Parlatuvier Bay just for yourself - and in the afternoon the fishingboats arrive.

Also, in Parlatuvier, don’t miss the Riverside Restaurant. They offer real Tobagonian cuisine with shrimps, lobster or fresh fish.

Behind Gloucester Place began the tropical rain forest. Win can guide you to a nearby waterfall in the forest, too.

This was a real relaxing treat! Visited: March 2007

Simply put, Gloucester Place can lower anyone’s heart rate!

Win and Bea’s spot on the hill is a real pleasure. From the moment you pull up and get out of your vehicle, you are blessed with sights and sounds of paradise. You can breath a fresh salty air of relaxation. The clean, neat and simple lines of the house are a lovely foreground to the infinity pool which draws the eye right out to the crashing waves below.

Our stay in Parlatuvier was super. The house was an easy place to be - anyone’s home away from home. Our room was comfortable, and had everything we needed. The ktichen/sitting area leading out to the deck was equally comfortable and pleasant.

Win and Bea, the innkeepers, were welcoming, open, and relaxed, and allowed us to have a quiet, uninterrupted day of reading a book poolside or napping in the hammock if we chose.

Being the nature lovers that we are, we were able to get the most out of the northern section of the island. We enjoyed waterfall walks, the quite shoreline, and the tropical rain forest, and it was all accesible from Gloucester Place by foot or by car.

This was truly a birdwatcher’s paradise. Over one week at Gloucester Place, we counted upwards of 35 bird species of birds without getting in the car. Included in those species were the impressively beautiful blue-gray tanager, blue-crowned mot mot and the ruby topaz hummingbird, seen right from the house.

Sadly, we had only one week on Tobago. We could easily have spent another week or more lazily watching birds from the deck, getting to know the ins and outs of Parlatuvier, eating freshly caught fish and taking day trips to neighboring villages.

It was a treat beyond measure!

Gloucester Place felt like a home away from home. Visited: March 2007

My husband and I stayed at Gloucester Place for six nights at the end of March, and we loved it!

The location was fairly remote as it was between a couple of fishing villages (Parlatuvier Bay was a two-minute drive away, Englishman's Bay was about ten minutes away, and Castara was about 15 minutes away).

The house sat on a steep cliff overlooking the sea. We could always hear the ocean crashing down below, and even see and hear a blow hole.

There were lots of different kinds of trees and birds on the property, too. The hosts took us on two different short hikes nearby to see their favorite waterfalls and trees. One of the waterfalls had a pool that was large enough to swim in (and quite refreshing).

There was a small market with snacks and drinks (including beer) within walking distance, and another store and restuarant in Parlatuvier. There was one place to eat on the beach at Englishman's Bay, and several places in Castara.

Breakfast varied from day to day, but if you let Bea know what you like, she will provide. We enjoyed the fresh papaya and pumpkin bread toast. She even cooked dinner for us our first night, and once more before we left. Her meals were by far the best we had during our stay in Tobago.

The room was very nice...pillowtop mattress, feather pillows, super soft sheets, A/C and private bathroom. The water was safe to drink out of the tap. Decorations were tasteful and unique. We also got your own balcony with a view. The whole house was constructed of concrete, which means you can't hear your neighbors.

Having a pool on the property was nice, as it was so hot there in Tobago. It was nice to take a dip from time to time.

The hosts were very welcoming and fun to talk with. They recommended we go to The Boathouse in Castara for dinner. On Wednesdays, the Boathouse offers dinner and live music (steel pan music) for $150TT per person. It was well worth it! Go at sunset, and take your own beer. (When we went, they weren't serving alcohol because they didn't have their liquor licnense.) We just took a small cooler that Win and Bea loaned us.

If you're looking for a home away from home where you can visit uncrowded beaches and "get away from it all", Gloucester Place is for you.

Gloucester Place is highly recommended. Visited: February 2007

We stayed at Gloucester Place and arrived after a stressful journey to the most beautiful welcome and supper. We woke the next morning to the sound of birds, and from our balcony looked over the cliffs into the sea, with coconut and banana trees below.

Bea and Win, who own the guesthouse, have worked right across the world and are considerate and friendly hosts who made us all feel very welcome. The children loved Bea's cooking – and so did we. Her grilled fish supper was memorable.

Win took us snorkeling in the bay, which was fantastic. It built up our confidence for future trips, and they provided extra equipment when we had not brought enough.

In fact, nothing was too much trouble, and we fondly remember some great rum punches sitting on the veranda, swinging in the hammock, overlooking the crashing sea and amazing blow hole.

The rooms were very elegant and simple – white walls, tiled floors and fascinating artifacts from around the world dotted all over the place. The beds, with crisp white sheets, were wonderfully comfortable, and the windows had mosquito screens so we could get a great night's sleep.

Parlatuvier is a small, relaxed village where you can get to see the real Tobago. If you visit, don't miss out on the waterfall (ask Win).

Gloucester Place is thoroughly to be recommended. It is a home from home.

Gloucester Place is a hidden oasis. Visited: December 2006

After two weeks moving around Tobago, staying on the Windward side, on a sailing boat, and all over the Caribbean side of the island, we ended our stay at Gloucester Place. Not knowing what to expect, we found ourselves hidden away at a true oasis, bathed in luxury.

The hosts, Bea and Win, were an absolute delight. The village of Parlatuvier couldn't have been more charming and inviting. We loved waking to the sunrise over a spectacular view, trekking with Win to uncharted waterfalls, laughing over breakfast with a houseful of guests, and a spectacular Indian feast shared by all. It was a truly memorable experience.

The accommodations were wonderful. They were comfortable, with clean beds, lovely bath facilities, private balconies, and good company. One could not ask for more.

This is a tropical jewel. Visited: December 2006

We wanted a vacation away from crowds and tourist traps. This bed and breakfast is a jewel on a remote part of the island with a spectacular view of the sea and the sounds of waves crashing on the cliffs and parrots in the trees.

The rooms are air conditioned, large, and clean with private bathrooms and comfortable beds. The food is local, fresh and well prepared. The pool is refreshing, and you can see the Caribbean as almost an extension of the water when you are in it.

In addition, enjoyable, if steep walks, take you to waterfalls on and off the property, to an interesting cafe overlooking Parlatuvier Bay and to the lovely sandy beach below.

The service is informal and relaxed, and the hosts are willing to share their knowledge of the island with you.

I recommend you rent a car if you want to go out for dinner and explore other parts of Tobago. Be prepared for potholes, left-hand driving, and unexpected people on the road.

These facilities are not handicapped accessible. Bring suntan lotion and insect spray.

We enjoyed Gloucester Place. Visited: November 2006

We were warmly welcomed by Bea and Win, and we quickly fell in love with the magnificent villa offering the natural surrounding, the breath-taking panoramic view of the sea, the sounds of nature with facilities that were beyond our expectations.

We started each glorious day with a swim in the Infinity Pool which looked onto the sea, with our granddaughter, Farron.

Art collections were tastefully displayed throughout the beautiful Gloucester Place.

The bedrooms were great with plenty of closet and storage space, and with air conditioned comfort.

We shared the kitchen with the self-catering arrangement, and had several “everybody-cook-something” type of dinners with memorable moments in the kitchen. Thank you Win, for sharing the most incredible dessert – the famous, one-of-a-kind warm and crunchy oatmeal cookies. (The secret will never be revealed).

We are truly thankful for Bea’s wonderful culinary creations, particularly, the delicious American Thanksgiving dinner with pumpkin pie made with freshly ground spices. Your banana leaf-wrapped barbequed red snapper is a five star creation.

Our hosts were wonderful, delivering information about the history of the area as well as the current happenings in Parlatuvier.
You can walk down stairs along the hillside which takes you to the bay, and see happy children and goats along the way. Nearby trails take you through the rainforest along rivers to picturesque waterfalls.

We had a taste of the community attending a fund-raising supper and dance event. Farron met some students who attend the school in Parlatuvier.

We watched women from a church group bake bread wrapped in banana leaves in the traditional African beehive-shaped outdoor oven, and were fortunate to sample their baked goods.

The hand made ice cream was delicious at Englishman’s Bay, a beautiful beach with local artists selling bamboo wind-chimes and crafts made of materials from this area.

Our day on the ocean was an exciting adventure. Valerie and I caught two albacore tuna which were cooked on the barbecue. It was a day to remember as the Sargent family (Win and Rosie from Tacoma) and our family shared this day. Me (a non-swimmer) and Farron and Valerie (sick-at-sea) returned to Gloucester Place to relax and rest realizing this is truly home away from home after having a very full day.

It was relaxing, fun, and offered great hospitality. Visited: November 2006

My husband and I stayed here over Thanksgiving this year. It was a great getaway for us. We like to relax, but we also like to venture out and see the sights.

The property was very clean, quiet, and comfortable (A/C in bedrooms!). The views were excellent from pretty much anywhere in the house. Having the pool on-site was also very handy for the days we didn't want to go to the beaches.

Win and Bea (the hosts) were fun, outgoing, and accommodating. They were very knowledgeable about the island.

There were several beaches close by. You need to drive a short distance to the nearest restaurant, but there are a couple little local stores for misc. items within walking distance.

You'll definitely need to rent a car. The roads are very narrow with lots of curves. Bring your sunglasses and lots of sunscreen.

This was a relaxing fall getaway. Visited: October 2006

Gloucester Place was very relaxing and was a fantastic exposure to true laid-back Caribbean village life!

I thoroughly enjoyed the open-air features of this beautiful new house - including evening breezes on the porch overlooking the heated infinity pool with unbelieveable views of the Caribbean (including a blow-hole that spews water 24/7!).

Afternoons at "Andy's Place", a small beverage and convenience store (Tobago style; not your stateside 7-11!) overlooking Parlatuvier Bay, a three-minute walk from the house, were also fun and relaxing.

Parlatuvier Bay was about a ten-minute walk from Gloucester Place, and offered a wonderful sandy beach as well as the opportunity to buy fresh caught fish from the local fishermen.

While in Parlatuvier Bay, stop by and say hello to Mr. Duran Chance, a local merchant who is a true ambassador of good will, and enjoy a cold drink before heading back to the house.

Castara Bay was about 10-15 minutes away by car and offered another nice sandy beach with several local eateries where I enjoyed the warm, friendly atmosphere and good, local food.

We were lucky that our hosts (and owners), Bea and Win Sargent, were in residence which made our visit to paradise even more memorable.

If you are going to Tobago, Gloucester Place is definitely a must!
