2.0 stars Nice but.... Visited: July 2003

I chose staying at this hotel based on reviews from this website. When I arrived to the hotel my first impressions were that it was very nice. I got the deluxe suite with two semi bedrooms upstairs and living and kitchen area downstairs. BEWARE of their curfew on friends visiting and their policies about visiters to your rooms. I was told that I had to visit friends outside the gates of the hotel and that I could not entertain them in my room where I had planned on cooking dinner for everyone. If I had known ahead of time I wouldn't of booked there. I ended up leaving the hotel the next day. If you are OK with their visiters policy then stay here.

5.0 stars Thanks for the great Tobago holiday! Visited: May 2003
Posted by grubbytech
I'm just writing to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Ocean Point, and how pleased we were with both the standard of service we recieved and also with the delightful cozy little room we had during our stay.

We stayed in the Attic studio units. Although they were small, they had the major advantage of being very private as it was. As the name implies, it was at the top of the hotel with its own sundeck, too. I would say that if you are over six feet tall, this is not the room for you, though.

The view from these rooms was great, a view of the Atlantic every morning with its fresh breeze was just the thing for waking up to.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank very much Lynnette and Ivan for supplying Jill and me with great food and cocktails (Oh, and Ivan's singing and dancing, too!).

I'd also like to thank Ram for all the fresh fruits, and also for helping me with the charcoal pit when I couldn't get it lit!
Last, but by no means least, thanks to Cleo, Susan and Mr. Kallie for arranging everything we needed whilst we stayed with them.

If you want a quiet, hassle-free holiday, check out Ocean Point, it's da bomb!

5.0 stars If you want to experience the real Tobago, Ocean Point is it! Visited: April 2003
Posted by gillingham59
If you choose to go to Tobago, which you most certainly should, you must consider staying at Ocean Point Hotel. From the moment we arrived at this perfectly designed hotel, we felt so very much at home. We were welcomed very warmly and felt valued as guests. Everyone involved in this establishment made a fantastic effort to ensure that we had the best holiday we have ever experienced.

Our accommodation was cleaned to a very high standard, it was spacious (Ocean View Suite) and was furnished excellently. We wanted for nothing. The stafff at the reception, bar and restaurant ensured that all our needs were catered for, and we were confident that any request would have been dealt with heartfelt positivity. I would like to give a huge thank you to all the staff at the Ocean Point - it is so rare to find a group of people who give so much and make you feel so welcome as a traveler.

As for Tobago itself - words cannot describe our experience. It was the most wonderful island full of peaceful contemplation and exciting surprises. The beauty of this tropical landscape will perhaps be beyond your expectations, as it was ours.

Places we particularly enjoyed were Argyle Waterfalls, Pigeon Point Beach, Sunset at Stonehaven Bay, Charlotteville, Scarborough Fort, and many many more.

If you want to experience the real Tobago, its peoples' warmth and hospitability, the Ocean Point Hotel is a must, and also a great base to travel the whole island. It was situated on the most beautiful beach, on which you will probably be the only people soaking up the sea, sun and perfect atmosphere of a peaceful natural environment.

I have no doubt, that once you have visited Tobago, you will want to return. For my part I would just simply like to pass on my deepest thanks to the Ocean Point team for giving us such a fantastic holiday.

1.0 stars Rude management, Overpriced hotel Visited: February 2003
Posted by lvincent
From the first minute we arrived, the owners turned out to be rude, unhelpful and arrogant. The hotel is seriously overpriced.

The management only thinks about your money, not about your stay. Some of the staff is nice, though.

We would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

5.0 stars They have really friendly staff at this Tobago hotel! Visited: January 2003
Posted by carlton7
I think I owe the staff at this hotel a big thank you letter for making my nine-day stay such a memorable one. I was truly impressed when they remembered my earlier visit to Ocean Point in 1997, and even more so when they told me which room I stayed in!

I must confess, I loved Tobago so much I had returned in 1998 but unfortunately stayed at another resort. I really missed the warm "at home" feeling that this hotel had shown me, I just had to stay at Ocean Point again this time around. As usual, I was not disappointed. I didn't know if it was that laid back vacation trance I got when I stepped off that airplane at Crown Point or just being familiar with the resort and knowing I was going to be taken care of. Personally, I think it was the latter.

My car rental and diving schedule was as simple as a signature. Haha, that's Kallie for you, always looking for the best for his guests, and I can probably say this to all those who have revisited this amazing small hotel, "It only gets better with age..."

I love what they've done to the attic rooms and the new ocean-view patio made it seem so personal; like having your very own private sundeck!

If you go, say 'hey' to Rhonda, Alison, Chef Stag, and Ms. Nehru. I'll be thinking about my stay in Tobago even more so as our cold Canadian winter sets in!

Kallie, the owner of the hotel, was always out and about ensuring that his guests were having a great time. Keep that attic room ready for me in 2004!

3.0 stars A lovely hotel on a lovely island. Visited: December 2002

Tobago is one of most beautiful countries in the West Indies. It is the sister of Trinidad. It takes 15 minutes by flight from Trinidad. This is an ideal place for the whole family to enjoy, and ideal for weddings and honeymoons.

Ocean Point is a truly beautiful and friendly hotel, and there are other features to this hotel you would notice straight away. The 12 self-contained apartments are air conditioned, the kitchenettes are fully equipped, private balconies, with …guess what...wait for it… Yes a hammock! They also offer daily room service and cable TV.

Also featured is a large sun deck area with outdoor barbecue pits, a palm thatched pool, side restaurant bar, a kidney shaped garden pool surrounding an award-winning, cozy restaurant in a garden atmosphere. It is right next to the championship golf course. The beach is a three-minute walk.

There are exotic cocktails and fresh fruit drinks, a la carte menu with local specialities, seafood delights, grilled foods and vegetarian dishes.

Tobago is truly beautiful place for weddings, honeymoons or holidays. You'll just love it! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

5.0 stars Beautiful people, and a great hotel. Visited: November 2002

I wanted to give a report on my wonderful experience at the Ocean Point Hotel in Tobago. This is the first time I've ever posted a review, but the outstanding experience I had there has made me feel I need to spread the word.

The hotel is a lovely, small hotel located conveniently between Crowne Point (airport and tourist area] and Scarborough (Main Town in Tobago).

The hotel itself is beautifully maintained by Ram (who never seems to stop working), and minutes walk away from a beautiful little beach. You will need a rental car/taxi to get to either Scarborough or Crowne Point (each about 7 minutes by car).

The rooms are kept immaculately clean each day by Rhonda and Alison, two of the sweetest and happiest people I have ever met. Thank you both for the daily one-minute laugh and joke session while you were working hard.

The associated restaurant , the Garden Grille, is beautifully run by Linnette, the best chef I've ever met, and Ivan, the most courteous and downright happy bartender on the island. The food at the restaurant is truly magnificent. I still dream of Linnette's Kingfish dish. It is also reasonably priced for the true quality of the dishes.

The hotel is efficiently run by Paulette and Lisa, who make sure that all your needs are met whether you require an extension (I bet you will extend your stay like me) or just a rental car. Mr. Kallie, the hotel owner is always discretely around to make sure your stay is enjoyable.

As you can probably gather from the above review, what makes the stay so truly special is the staff at Ocean Point and the Garden Grille. I truly appreciated their genuine friendliness and flexibility. Through work, I've stayed at many top hotels throughout the world (Marriott, 4 Seasons, Hilton, etc.), but I would trade all the clinical luxuries of these hotels in a heartbeat to receive the warmth, courtesy and friendship of Ivan, Linnette, Rhonda, Alison and all the crew at Ocean Point.

I encourage you to chill out at the restaurant, have a drink with Ivan, enjoy some food from Linnette, then chat with the other guests about the beautiful sights you've seen that day in Tobago (my vision of paradise)

I just wish I could return tomorrow. Thanks to all of you for a great vacation.

5.0 stars I have no hesitation as a travel agent, to recommend this hotel! Visited: October 2002

Mark and I experienced the best holiday we've ever had! They say parents are always right, but in this instance they were wrong! My parents said we would have a great time staying at Ocean Point as they had stayed here themselves in August 1999. But we did not have a great time, bwe had a fantastic time.

It was Mark's first visit to the Caribbean, and he is now hooked on Tobago. We are already planning when we will be back visiting all the gang next year.

We could not fault anything - from the room and the staff, to the restaurant and the pool. I would have no hesitation, being a travel agent, to recommend Ocean Point to anyone wishing to take a holiday in Tobago.

5.0 stars This short note cannot begin to commend this charming hotel. Visited: September 2002
Posted by mikescollan
From the first evening we arrived (to be greeted and shown to our rooms), we had a wonderful and relaxing time. We were welcomed at the bar, and sat down to a 'late' dinner and a cold beer.

It was more like staying with family and friends than staying in a hotel. When it came time to leave, we were truly unhappy.

The room was maintained spotlessly by the tireless and ever cheerful Rhonda and Allison, while all our other needs were looked after by Neru, Annette, and Lynette. Nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble for them. We made some good friends during our stay, (Hi to Sarah, Mike, Patti, and Loren), and we hope to be back soon.

On the subject of the island.... mere words cannot begin to describe the heaven on earth we found on Tobago. The food was excellent wherever we decided to eat. The biggest problem we had was deciding at what time and where we wanted to eat. The beaches were idyllic and the people were friendly without exception.

We hope to sit in the bar with everyone and sip on a cold Carib on a warm, balmy, Caribbean night very soon.

4.0 stars Warm & Friendly Staff at Tobago's Ocean Point! Visited: June 2001
Posted by TonyLevene
It has been so long since we were on holiday at Ocean Point! It's difficult to believe that we have been home nearly 4 weeks now.

Anyway, we want you to know that we had a great time at Ocean Point, thanks to the helpfulness and kindness of the staff

We think that Tobago is a lovely place - perfect pace of life, perfect weather and perfect people who go out of their way to make you welcome.

We are looking forward to the time when we can come back.

It was a real pleasure to have had the privilege of staying at such a welcoming hotel. From the moment we arrived to the sad day of departure, we enjoyed every minute. We have already been singing Ocean Point praises in Suffolk! We will definitely be back, especially to taste once again the crab and callahoo...mouth watering at the thought!

4.0 stars Great Place! from a travel professional Visited: April 2001

Having traveled to a number of Caribbean Islands both my wife and I agreed that this would be our last chance at finding an Island in the Caribbean that we would want to return to. Well there you have it, finally a hotel and island that will let you get on with it your way, whatever that may be.

Whether lazing by the pool, eating the superb local cuisine, or seeking advice, Kallie and the team at Ocean Point ensured we were well looked after. Really... Tobago is a paradise, and long let it remain "low key" on the tourism map to ensure our future visits are as enjoyable as this was.

Ocean Point is for those who want to get away from the trappings and trimmings of Crown Point and to experience much more of the real Tobago, away from the bustle and at a local pace.

Some of the best beaches (beside the one that's 2 minutes walk away) are only a 10 minute drive and you can stock up the fridge at the nearby supermarkets to ensure there is always a cold one nearby! Kallie may know just about everything and everyone but I understand he still has not got to Pirates Bay, undeniably the most pristine sand and reefs I have seen in the Caribbean. Just one recommendation - leave the car in the village and walk there!

We will certainly return next year and like many of the other testimonials don't tell too many people - we like it just the way it is.

4.0 stars Fun for all six of us! Visited: March 2001
Posted by kyle_graveley
We all had an amazing time in Tobago at Ocean Point, everyone was helpful and courteous, and the facilities were spotless.

Our group of six cannot talk enough about the warm hospitality and accommodating service provided during our 6-day adventure to heaven - Ocean Point Hotel in Tobago. The location, cleanliness and view were far beyond our expectations; thankfully nothing prepared us for this trip of a lifetime.

Daily we purchased fresh fish (shark, kingfish, red snapper, tuna and grouper) from various locations throughout the island and prepared them on the BBQ provided at the hotel, and dined on the patio table that easily accommodated the six of us. The beach located at a mere three-minute walk from the hotel was virtually deserted and provided the best location to spend our lazy days around the hotel.

We are looking forward to our next visit to Tobago and especially to Ocean Point, which was our home away from home and the "Piece de Resistance" of our vacation!

4.0 stars A return visit to our home away from home Visited: January 2001
Posted by kingbee_scotland
Our first trip to Ocean Point was in March of 1999. We went back to Ocean Point THIS year, just to see if anything had changed. More important, we wanted to see if OUR feelings for the place had changed. And, boy, we were not disappointed: if anything, this trip was even better!

Ocean Point is still wonderfully idyllic, and long may it remain so. Kallie is still, and in our view always will be, the best host ever. Although he is only a couple of years older than us, we don't think he'll mind us saying that he was like a father to us the whole time we were there, and couldn't do enough to make our stay at Ocean Point truly memorable (the home videos help to remind us of that!). Kallie is a busy guy - after all, he has a business to run. But he always has time for his guests, so much so that he makes you feel that you're the only people on the planet. And while we're on the subject, let's not forget the rest of the "family": Rhonda and Alison, our lovely, lovely chambermaids; Stag, our favourite chef; Ivan, our favourite waiter; and Joanne, our favourite fun person (also a good chef!) who, along with everyone else on the team, showed us such a good time. And of course, George, our favourite taxi driver who was there to meet us at the airport when we arrived, and among other things took us to his home to meet his wife and beautiful daughter.

Because we'd seen a fair bit of Tobago on our last trip, this time around we spent most of our days lazing around the Ocean Point pool, doing absolutely nothing but soaking up the rays, sipping the odd rum, planning dinner (more rum), and mainly for that reason the days just seemed to str-e-e-e-e-tch forever, which made our 2 weeks seem like a month. But, of course, it still all came to an end too soon, and we came back to typical Scottish winter weather, and the suntans faded far too quickly, and we felt miserable. Still do!

So, we'll just have to get back to Ocean Point as soon as we can. Please don't change anything, Kallie, while we're away. We love you and your team, and Ocean Point, and the people of Tobago, just the way they are.

3.0 stars Ocean Point provides basic accommodations. Visited: December 1969
Posted by christinel
The hotel was appropriate, but basic. This was not the Hilton.

I found the rooms to be well organized. The beds were rock hard, and the refrigerator was quite small, though.

Linette did cook up a fabulous evening meal, but it was costly.

Would I stay here again? Probably not, because I am sure I could find a better value for my money. It was not as great - or as bad as some of the reviews stated.

One thing to note: the pictures were not "exactly reflective" of the hotel. The ocean view was non-existent. Also, in the photos, they have erased the fencing and barbed wire that surrounds the property.

4.0 stars We've gone there every year for the past 3 years. Visited: December 1969

A quick note to say how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ocean Point. We were made to feel more than welcome from the moment we arrived.

The accommodation was perfect, able to step out onto the terrace and jump straight into the pool. The service, from the room maids to the managers was second to none. Our days were spent lazing in the sun and our nights—well, Stag, Ivan, Gerry and Joanne certainly made them ones to remember.

The hotel was an ideal base from which to explore the delights of Tobago. Everyone was extremely helpful when asked about information on sights, nightlife, tours, car hire and much, much more.

Everyone at Ocean Point made this the best holiday we've had and we will definitely be returning year after year.

4.0 stars As for the FOOD - no need to go anywhere else Visited: December 1969
Posted by saucie
We just wanted to write to let you know what a wonderful time we had in Tobago and, most importantly, to thank Ocean Point and their staff for the best vacation ever!

Where to begin? The room was great, the staff so friendly, the food magnificent, and the service superb. We were almost in tears when it was time to leave, and can't wait to return in December.

I think the thing that needs to be stressed to possible guests is that this is like staying with family. Nothing was too good for us, nothing too outrageous. Because of the intimacy of the hotel, we got to know other guests, even dining with some and exploring the island with others. We still communicate by mail and by phone with other guests and with some of the hotel staff. No cold and impersonal atmosphere of a large resort or hotel at Ocean Point! We truly made friends there, and that is so precious to us.

As for the FOOD -- no need to go anyplace else. In fact, we dined at the hotel literally every night. We explored the magnificent island during the day and relaxed at the bar at night, then sat down to an exquisite meal prepared especially for us by Joanne, while sipping tropical delights mixed up by Ivan.

And Tobago -- the most exquisite and undisturbed place in the world. There is such a myriad of things to do compacted into one island. The birds, the untouched beaches, the sacred rain forest, the coral reef -- I could go on and on and on. At times we felt like we were on Gilligan's Island! The Ocean Point driver, George, took us all over the island and showed us many of the beautiful historical sights, as well as beautiful waterfalls, the unspoiled beaches, and the surrounding villages.
