The rooms were fabulous, the food was excellent, the pool and beach were great. Also, the spa was totally relaxing.
I found Tobago to be absolutly stunning, and the people were fantastic.
My only the thought of going home - was awful!

La Grand Courland was very disappointing. The food was poor in quality and the lunchtime menu did not change for a week; the same soup was available every mealtime. The hotel was under staffed and the staff was not at all friendly, and lacked training. The swimming pool while we were there was filthy and we had to advise reception to take a look!
I will not be going back to La Grand Courland.

A comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings. Visited: August 2002 |

We have just returned from a fortnight's stay at Le Grand Courland, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The brochure description of excellent facilities was accurate.
Our room was spacious and well-appointed. Small details such as shampoo and shower-gel dispensers, and an iron and board made all the difference. I appreciated the full length mirrors, and also the remote for the air conditioning, which was reasonably quiet. The room was said to have a mini-bar, however it was empty throughout our stay!
Most of the staff was friendly once you got talking to them, and they provided a good service. In the evening, a waiter named Nigel was excellent. The waitress service at lunchtime in the Breezes Bar was the exception. We found it frustratingly slow. Service in the evenings was attentive and, for the most part, the food was good by Caribbean standards.
The only criticism would be the lunchtime menu, which was fixed. They had the same choice of soup throughout our stay. The evening entertainment was generally poor and often took place while people were eating dinner.
A real plus for me was the Spa. It was true that each guest was provided with a prescribed schedule, but we found the staff very flexible whenever we wanted to change treatments. The treatments were so relaxing and the whole place was professionally run. All the staff was trained to a high standard.
There was a bar on the beach for guests from the Grafton and LGC. It was an absolute must - the staff was great and you could sit in the shade of the trees right on the beach.
The main complaint of ours was the considerable presence of children shouting and splashing in the pool. On our final night, we were even disturbed by a small baby next door. Such a shame considering that the hotel made every effort to ensure a relaxing holiday for their guests. |

In need of a vacation from New York City, a friend and I decided to fly down to Tobago on a whim last year for a five-day respite. We stayed at Le Grand Courland.
From the impeccable service of the staff to the simple yet spacious accomodations, the hotel lived up to all our expectations. We enjoyed spa treatments in the mornings (I recommend the facial), cocktails by the pool during the day, and had dinner with breathtaking views of the ocean by night.
On a whole, we were looking for a relaxing vacation and the hotel provided it all for us. Should we have the opportunity to revisit the island, we would definitely come back. |

Le Grand is the best resort in the world! Visited: April 2002 |

We have just recently returned from this magnificent five-star resort and boy, let me tell you something... it was excellent!
The moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly face of Duty Manager Lorraine Dpeiza, who was excellent. She did everything for us and we did not have to lift a finger.
The room we had was a garden jacuzzi room which was lovely. It overlooked the garden and we could even see the sea. The facilities were excellent and the pools were magnificent. The spa was also great, and the spa staff was very warm and friendly. They helped me pick out a great treatment, "hydrotherapy". It is a must for any person who comes here.
The restuarants, Pinnacle and Caribbean Bristo, were great. Although service was a bit dismal in Pinnacle. Enjoying cocktails in the evening at Breezes Lounge was enjoyable. The good humor of the bar staff always enhanced the tone and mood of the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, beach water sports rental was not that great, as the staff was a bit rude. Nevertheless, I had an excellent time and I definitely will return. |

Having recently stayed at this wonderful resort I am definitely going back. This is the first time I've considered returning to a hotel.
The Caribbean feeling of the island was shown in the way the staff served us. They were never too overbearing, positively laid back, and it was the kind of service you want after working hard all year round.
It is obvious that some care and attention by management has been put into the resort including quite a lot of cosmetic improvements while we were here.
The spa facilties were very good, it was nice to have a treatment every day and then sip some of those lethal cocktails!
Overall, this resort certaintly made us feel welcome and was on a fantastic location on the island. We hope to be back soon. |

The Le Grand Courland Resort and Spa had friendly staff and quiet and comfortable rooms. It was an impressive layout. The beach was beautiful, the cuisine was wonderful, and it was a fabulous place to get a relaxing vacation. We are anxious to return! |

Very Disappointed Visited: February 2002 |

The main hotel complex is very nice & clean but was grossly understaffed while we were there. New staff weren't trained properly. Food was OK but service appalling (a wait of one hour between starter and main course!)
Spa was excellent but you don't choose your treatment, it is picked for you. Some gym equipment was out of order our entire holiday. Plastic chairs to sit on in the bar area wasn't exactly 4-stars either. |

Beautiful views and warm people. Visited: January 2002 |

The view is spectacular, but it can be a bit noisy if you're not use to the sea.
The food is very nice, but if the hotel gets busy the service can be a little slow. The spa treatment is very good and the staff are very professional and overall very friendly. The rooms are a very good size - it was worth every penny. Also, the cocktails that Kelly or Leon make are out of this world.
There is also an employee named Lorraine who moved here from London. She is so helpful if you have any problems. My daughter was sleeping in the room and we had a spa appointment. Lorraine arranged for someone to keep an eye until we returned. That is what I call service with a smile.
The entertainment needs a bit of help as it only lasts for an hour. There is nothing to do after you have eaten but go to your room or drink at the bar.
This hotel makes you feel as if you are in paradise. |

A quiet and beautiful resort that was well worth the money. Visited: April 2001 |

We crashed this hotel after leaving the one we had originaly planned on staying in for our honeymoon. They were very receptive and went out of there way to accommodate us.
We stayed in a room off the pool with a private outdoor jacuzzi which was so much fun and romantic. The room could use some updating and they were a little under-staffed, but I think that is was just representative of the island still developing its commercial presence.
The beach was beautiful and the pool was well maintained with a swim-up bar. Sometimes there wasn't a bartender but again, understaffed. We looked at pretty much all the hotels on the island when we went looking to get out of the first one and this one was probably one of, if not the best beach-front hotel on the island.
The room we stayed in was the way to go. The ocean front rooms were not as quaint, and they were darker. Also, the jacuzzis were the plastic kind and were in a small bathroom-like space.
This hotel could be magnificent with the right management. |

A perfect wedding location. Fantastic holiday destination. Visited: August 2000 |

Spent a great two weeks in a sea view room here. All rooms were spacious and clean. Our stay was all-inclusive which otherwise would have been very expensive. Lunch and dinner menus were limited and the lighting in the restaurant was poor (you couldn't see what you were eating).
Nightly entertainment was good-don't miss out on the chance to hear Michael Baker (a local singer and fantastic entertainer). Generally, staff were pleasant, a few had an attitude problem.
Location was fantastic, quiet and clean beach.
Wedding service provided was excellent. We had a very special day. We would love to return to the Island some day. |

Nicest hotel on Tobago, service is a little slack Visited: December 1969 |

We just spent a fortnight at the Courlan. The rooms are very nice, the standard rooms are probably the nicest as they have sea views, the Jacuzzi rooms do not.
Pool is great, beach OK, food good if a little too heavy at dinner. Apart from some not so good service at times, a very nice hotel. |

The property is among the most beautiful and although the Coco Reef, at first blush, looks better, the beach and pool are not as nice as Le Grand Courlan. Service is inconsistent...sometimes it is unparalleled....sometimes you are frustrated.
Overall, we intend to return here someday. It was easy to get to everything from this location on the island. |

Hotel situation was nice, food poor, & the spa service was dismal. Visited: December 1969 |

The hotel situation was nice, rooms nice & clean. Service was a bit slow at times & food was not good at lunch or dinner. You had to choose wisely and house red was like vinegar; breakfasts were the best.
The spa was dismal, not enought staff, treatments cancelled, some treatments were not available. Spa Manager was not available.
Not the best resort we've been too but the people we met were nice, the staff were pleasant. The management just needs to address the problems or else the new Hilton will kill this hotel off. |

We loved our stay at Le Grand Courlan; we couldn't complain about anything. We prefer a leisurely pace and do not expect everything the minute we ask for it. We found the staff very helpful especially after I gave them some English magazines that they cannot get in Tobago. Overall, a great stay and I am going back again this year. |

Disappointed with Le Gran Courlan Visited: December 1969 |

My wife and I had a "deluxe" ocean view room in the lower building on the property. Our view included an ugly chain link fence. The hotel staff were unhelpful with our request to change rooms. We spent one night and then checked out early to go to the hotel that the locals recommended.
Le Gran Courlan seemed to be frequented by German tourists who were on the European Plan- translation: everything you eat or drink will be unnecessarily expensive. Also, the spa at Le Gran Courlan was hardly used and was in bad shape. I would never return to this hotel. |
