The first time I went to the Caribbean, I stayed at the Grafton and thought it was excellent.
The food was great. The place was situated perfectly, and the staff was very friendly. This hotel should be a five star accommodation! |

I have just returned from an excellent two weeks at the Grafton Beach Resort.
This was the sort of resort where you relax as soon as you arrive. All the staff were friendly, and the food was very good (especially for the three-star rating). The location was also one of the best on the island with a great beach and with local villages just a short walk away, so it was not one of those 'you could be anywhere' type resorts.
The beach was a public beach so we did get beach traders. All of them were friendly and laid back and did not harrass us at any time. Avoid the Aloe man and the guy with the guitar, though.
As for the island - it was stunning. I've been to most of the West Indies islands and this was the most beautiful with the friendliest of people. |

My wife and I spent what turned out to be five wonderful days here. We arrived two hours before our check-in time and were unable to go to our room. But we were invited by the friendly staff to have lunch and tour the grounds and beach while we waited.
The days were sunny and hot, so the air conditioned room was quite spacious, welcoming and comfortable. The surrounds were picturesque and evening painted a beautiful sunset each night. So, a room with a view of the ocean is must.
We felt like we knew the staff as they were always friendly and they always made sure we were comfortable and they did their best to meet our needs.
We went swimming early every morning in the cool, calm and clear sea which was just a short walk from our room. What we liked most about Grafton Beach Resort was that it wasn’t too sterile. We came here to relax in ease and comfort, and that was just what we got to do.
We highly recommend Grafton Beach Resort to anyone planning to visit Tobago, for it will be our intended place of stay when next we return to there. |

The Grafton created a fun environment for our entire group of 50 people which included coaches, players and parents.
They had a myriad of options for meal choices, and each dish was well prepared. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They had exciting entertainment almost every night that was for the whole family.
The location was right on the beach, so guests could participate in any of the outside activities that they desired. Everyone on our trip was pleased with the quality of the resort and had a great time!

This was a great hotel to relax in with good food, a really friendly staff and a lovely beach. The island was very friendly with no problems traveling around even on your own.
We have been visiting the Grafton mostly twice a year for the last nine years with only a couple of breaks. And, having visited some 14 or 15 times, we have always had a great holiday. |

The Grafton was a compact hotel and looked a bit dated here and there. However, it had an extremely good location next to a beautiful beach, excellent and friendly staff, and the food was pretty good.
It was hard to get into the speciality seafood restaurant and, alas, it was necessary to bag a beach sunbed early in the day or go without. They need to buy a few more.
During the first week here, there were few children. Then they poured in - to the dismay of the many teachers who seemed to be staying here. If you want to escape lots of young kids, the Gran Courlan hotel next door seemed to be adults-only (but we only found this out when we were here).
The Grafton was really a three-star place in terms of physical appearance - but the staff was so nice and friendly that we'd nudge it up an extra one.
Tobago was a great place with lovely beaches, beautiful scenery and nice people. |

It was fantastic. Visited: June 2003 |

We have just returned from a two-week stay at Grafton Beach Resort. We had a really fantastic time, despite the rain, and can't wait to go back.
The rooms were pretty basic. Our oceanview room had a fridge and TV, plus a hairdryer and the usual bathroom and terrace. The terrace looked out over the sea and had a stretch of lawn immediately in front of our room. It ended at the cliff edge above the beach so no one could walk past the room, and it was very peaceful and private.
The furniture had seen better days, but the beds were the most comfortable that I have ever had in a hotel anywhere in the world. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean and the complimentary shower gels and other items were topped up daily whether we needed them or not. Clean towels and hot water were always readily available.
The hotel had a lovely warm, friendly family feel to it and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Although it was all-inclusive, there was no need to wear a bracelet or pin. After the first day, the staff knew us personally.
Food was excellent. The oceanview restaurant had a variety of foods on buffet evenings and a choice of many dishes when it was waiter service. There were a variety of dishes from English and American food to Italian and Tobagoan specialities. Everything was delicious, and the hot food was hot (unlike some other hotels I've stayed in where the hot food was lukewarm.) Also, service was speedy and friendly.
The seafood restaurant, Neptune's, was amazing. The quality of food here was second to none. And because it was small, the service was quick and personal. We did have to book in advance but there was no extra charge to eat here. We had no problems getting a table and ate here almost alternate evenings.
Lunch at Oceanview or at the beach bar was also excellent with a wide choice and something for everyone - all good quality and friendly service.
The beach was beautiful. Do not be put off by the black sand. It felt exactly the same as the white silky stuff. The sea could be rough in the rainy season, so some days it was not advisable to go out too far. The sand sloped gently into the sea and there were no stones or shingle underfoot.
We did have two days of continuous rain, but on other days it was just showery. Out of 14 days, we had six with no rain at all. My advice would be to avoid the rainy season if possible. Everyone in Tobago was so friendly and the staff at Grafton was especially so.
I can't wait to go back. |

Having first stayed at the Grafton Hotel in March of this year, I had no hesitation when deciding where to book my holiday again in June. The hotel was very accommodating with any special requests, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming.
On arrival, the management staff was waiting with refreshments to greet all the guests, and by the time we had had our first two cocktails, our cases were in our room.
There were two restaurants to choose from in the evening, and the food was superb. The rooms were very spacious and clean with a lovely view of the ocean from the balcony, and the maid service was excellent.
The beach was just a short distance from the hotel where there was a beach bar to obtain drinks and hot snacks. And, although the sea was a little rough at times, it added to the fun of body surfing.
The hotel seemed more suited to adults, although there were a few children staying here.
Lastly, if you are looking for a "chilled out" and very relaxing holiday, I would definitely recommend Tobago and the Grafton Hotel, and I will certainly be booking my holiday here again next year. |

This was the first time my friend and I stayed in Tobago, and I must say we had a really good time!
Staying at the Grafton was relaxing and enjoyable. Our room overlooked the beach and was quite comfortable. The staff was friendly and efficient. There was a pool, two restaurants, lobby area and two bars (including pool bar).
I found the food quite nice and varied for my tastes. My friend, who is quite an accomplished cook, thought the food was really good, too!
The beach was lovely, but we did get a little fed up with the beach guides trying to sell trips and people trying to sell things. But these guys didn't hassle us, and if they knew they had asked us once they did not ask again.
A tour guide came to us through the resort, Fresh Island Tours Ltd. - Steve. I highly reccomend him. He showed us things on the island I never knew existed. And he not only was a relaxed, fun and knowledgable guy, but he was professional too.
All in all, our stay at the Grafton was very enjoyable and we highly recommend it! |

Three stars for the Grafton Beach Resort. Visited: October 2002 |

My wife and I recently returned from a week-long vacation at the Grafton Beach Hotel. On arrival at the airport, the culture of Tobago was apparent. The people were both laid back and very friendly, unlike on other islands where you feel like the locals are talking to you to try and sell you something.
First impressions of the hotel were good, the entrance looked a little basic, but once inside, the staff was very friendly. As the resort was not too old, things still looked reasonably good. The rooms were of a good standard. The pool was small, but quite refreshing.
The only negative comment I would have to make is that if you move out of the main complex, the resort is a bit rough around the edges. But it is only a three-star resort, so perhaps you have to expect that for the money.
The food was generally good, but the variety was non-existent. It was pretty much the same thing every night. Albeit, it was nice, but after seven days we got a little fed up.
The specialty restaurant was okay, but we had only just gotten in. A lot of people who were there for a week did not manage to get a table. This was because you could book a table as many times as you wanted as early in advance as you like. They need to change that rule.
The restaurant was also very small and it was closed on weekends As far as the drinks went, the cocktails were very good. They made a great pina colada. Unfortunately, after your meal, the only place to place to relax was in the lobby bar seating area, which filled up quickly.
In fact, my main problem with the resort was its size. It was too small; fourteen days would have been too long I would have started to feel claustrophobic. In terms of dealing with problems, the service was also terrible. My safe needed a new battery all week so I could lock it and I went to reception three times, they smiled and said that maintenance would get back to me but they never did. I eventually just gave up and carried my money around with me. I know a lot of people had similar problems.
The Grafton is the sort of place people seem to go back to and a few couples who had been there before commented that they thought there had been a recent change of management, which in their opinion effected the overall quality of the resort. It is a shame because the place does have some good potential. If you cannot afford a higher-end property then go for the Grafton, I would say, however, that seven days is enough.
Overall, the Grafton Beach gets 3 stars. Make sure that you do go to Tobago; it really is a beautiful place. I would go back. |

After an initial mix up concerning the room (they gave us a 2-bed suite for our honeymoon!) the rest of the vacation was really good.
The food was great - especially their lavish buffet-style dinner. The dinner staff was very friendly and helpful.
With the beach just a short walk away, this was the ideal place for our honeymoon. On the entertainment side, there was table tennis and basketball, but these were very underutilized by the guests (we were the only one using them).
All in all, the ambiance was very romantic - especially at night. However, the entertainment could do with some spicing up.
I hope that I can return someday soon to this happy-go-lucky resort. |

The resort was not too far from the airport (approx. 15 mins), which was ideal for our children. As the brochure recommended, it was not for ailing bodies due to the steps down to beach.
The minor road that separated the complex from the beach still needed to be handled with care with small children. The staff was lovely and the food was decent to good. They provided clean rooms with ample maid service. Special praise and thanks to Betty, Patricia, Candice, Michelle and Kenneth.
Our only gripe was the amount of dogs on the public beach and some inside the complex where they were allowed to roam. Don't expect great night life in the complex with limited entertainment. |

Lovely island; Grafton is unpretentious, quiet and adequate Visited: February 2002 |

Our friends chose the Grafton Beach Resort on account of us attending their wedding which - incidentally - was a dream affair. It was very well organized by Grafton staff member Melissa.
The hotel was clean and adequate, but it was starting to look a little tired after only eight or so years. The staff was friendly, but only after you made the effort to make contact. The exceptions to this were Christine and Michelle, two very friendly girls in the the restaurant and bar area, and just a few others.
The food was good and was served mainly as a buffet meal. The Valentine-themed night was a disaster. There was not enough staff in attendance to carry it off. The regular barman was a tyrant to both the clientele and the staff. But he knew how to make a good drink.
Day time entertainment was what you made it, the pool and beach area were great. However, the evening entertaiment was mediocre. If you like a good drink, then no problem. Otherwise, go out and look at what the rest of Tobago has to offer.
Sunday school (at Buccoo Beach on Sunday nights) was never like that. And the goat racing and crab racing on Sunday afternoon was something else!
Trips around Tobago are a must. What a beautiful place! The people were very friendly. We felt very safe and carefree all the time.
Mount Irvine Golf Club was a very picturesque and interesting course to play. The caddies were just great. Many of them freelance as tour guides and Dennis and his friend, Shuma, were particularly good. Take a sea trip, the snorkelling was out of this world.
Speyside with Jemma's kitchen were simply delightful and the views across the bay to Little Tobago were simply stunning.
Enjoy it! We did - and the Grafton Beach Resort eventually grew on us. |

The Grafton Beach Resort was by no means the Ritz of the Caribbean, but its relaxed and friendly atmosphere made it a great place to stay.
We had the pleasure of getting hitched whilst we were there the first time in 2000. The wedding was organized by the hotel very efficiently.
The people there were very friendly and helpful; the rooms were comfortable and clean; and the beach was fantastic.
Breakfast was wonderful and definitely the best meal of the day. Unfortunately, the food left a little to be desired some evenings.
The Green Light (a step back in time) was a great evening out and a must for any dance lovers. It was about a ten-minute drive from the resort.
Have a beach BBQ if possible, beware of stingy things in the sea, try a coconut punch, be nice to the dogs and beware of Raphael!
Mostly - enjoy. |

Grafton Beach is one of the friendliest Tobago hotels! Breakfast is buffet with toast, cereal, cooked breakfast foods, pancakes, fruit and more. Lunch may be eaten at the beach bar or in the oceanveiw restaurant. Dinner can be eaten there too, as well as in Neptune’s (seafood restaurant.
The beach gates are open 6:00am-8:00pm. The pool is great! Rooms are well cleaned and have a hair dryer, bath, shower, etc.
We had a very enjoyable stay and hope to go back soon! Five out of five stars is the total score! |

Nice All-Inclusive Property Visited: May 2001 |

I was traveling by myself and was looking for a place to stay that was priced modestly yet had direct access to a beach and other amenities. I stayed at Grafton Beach Resort and it was just fine. My room was nothing special. It was clean and always attended to by a very pleasant staff.
And about the staff at Grafton Beach! They are some of the nicest people I have met in my travels. From Maleeka who assisted me with Internet access to Nakim the bartender who offered me a Puncheon Rum!
Beware! I have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts and I guess at some point they become all the same. The food was adequate. Grafton Beach Resort has a specialty restaurant, but I was never able to get a reservation. You do not have many choices outside of the resort unless you want to take a ride.
Grafton Beach itself reminded me of beaches I have up here in New England. There were waves! It wasn’t tranquil like some other parts of the island. A sea turtle came in one night and laid eggs right in front of the Seaside Snack Shack!
The Grafton Beach Resort is a good value! Awesome location! Beautiful sunsets! And most importantly—great people!

Dull rooms, food, entertanment, and people Visited: February 2000 |

In my opinion, this hotel was dull and univiting; the food was very plain and mostly buffet style. If you liked to drink, it was all included otherwise you could do a lot better around the island.
The non-motorized watersports consisted of one Sunsail and a couple of boards. The beach was nice but you needed to get a jeep to see the rest of the island; it had a lot to offer. Don't miss sunday school if you like to party.
Tobago was my favorite island on my 60 day island hopping trip but the Grafton was for the elderly drinking types.
The front desk people ran my card twice and didn't know it until a month later. I did get my $800 credit after some hassel. |

We have just enjoyed a really good holiday here. This is the sister hotel to Le Grand Courlan and was the first one built some ten years ago. The fact that many guests return year after year says a lot for the Grafton's staff, service and welcoming style. The rooms are clean and comfortable with excellent air conditioning. Most rooms overlook the sea and beautifully maintained gardens. However, a few have a sea view but are overlooked by Le Grand Courlan and are close by the kitchen.
The food is very good with something for everyone, even vegetarians. The breakfast buffet is stunning. The evening menu provides a good variety. Neptune is the Grafton's fish restaurant. It has a more limited menu but intimate surroundings and lovely food. The Beach Bar is okay but service is not as good as the hotel snack bar. The cocktails are to die for!
Entertainment is available most evenings, some good and some not!
There is a nice, long beach for walking, jogging, searching rock pools, or just lazing.
The Grafton has much more character, better food and service than its sister hotel.
I can't wait to go back! |
