3.0 stars It is what it is. I felt very safe here. Visited: February 2009

We stayed at Cascadia Hotel for the carnival, and it is what it is.

The hallway carpet smelled old. However, the room we got was not that bad. The hotel was about five minutes drive further than the Normandie, so it was a little isolated, gated, and by tucked to the left on a hill. Safety in Trinidad is a huge concern, and I must say I felt very safe here.

There was an electronic safe in the room where we could safely store our items, and change the codes every time we wished. I was able to safely keep my 15-inch laptop in the safe.

One thing, we had the do not disturb sign on the door, and we spoke to the housekeeper not to clean the room. However, some other housekeeper came after her, ignored the sign, and entered and cleaned up for us, changed the linens and made the beds. That was weird, even with the sign - but it was okay seeing we had placed items in the safe already.

The hotel front desk staff, Pat, was a darling who worked with me so much. Whenever I needed a taxi, she called for it and assisted us along the way. She was, and is, a wonderful person. She was very concerned about us, and made sure we were okay.

Breakfast was delicious, and was included in our rate. I was able to pick up breakfast and take to the room.

The grounds were very beautiful, but the rooms need a lot of updating. However, the linens on the beds were clean, and we received clean and fresh linens while we were here.

Carnival Monday morning the water was off. When we called, they said they were working on it. When it came back, it was brown and quickly became clear, so we were able to shower and get to our mass band.

All in all, out of a possible five, I give Cascadia a five for service thanks to Pat; a five for security including the safe; a three for food because the bread was quite hard most of the time; and one and a half for the décor of the rooms and the conditions of the rooms.

Considering all that (believe it or not), I might just return because of the service and how safe I felt in the hotel.

My girlfriends and I stayed here for Carnival 2008. We booked our rooms through a third party, and were overcharged and misinformed. Nonetheless, we were moderately happy with the rooms and the overall service of the hotel.

The front desk agents were well informed and eager to help. The hotel only had two taxi drivers, so this could be a deterrent for business travlers.

The security was extreme. At sunset, they locked the front gate to the driveway of the hotel and had guards there asking for room keys and numbers. Also, at midnight the hotel doors were locked and you had to buzz the front desk. It was a bit peculiar.

In addition, the pool was dirty, so we didn't use it. The breakfast was great, though.

We are looking into other accommodations for next year.
