This was almost the perfect place to stay. Visited: April 2008 |

I stayed here in late spring for almost two weeks. The breakfast was great, and I had a great view out into the gardens while eating in the dining room. The gardens were great - except for the odd piles of debris in the corners.
The staff was great and friendly. It was an almost perfect place.
The four problems I noted were: a noisy air conditioning; the beds were a bit hard; the Jacuzzi was out of order; and the water issues (that only occured the last three day I was here). Otherwise, the rooms were very clean and large; they offered full amenities; and had cable TV, a fridge, phone, and air conditioning.
I would like to give it at least 3.5 out of 5. |

What a lovely place to return for a weekend getaway! As we stated, prior, we have returned this summer for a short visit.
As usual, breakfasts were delicious, and we felt right at home. I'll certainly continue to recommend Alicia's to my friends and family.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Keep up the good work! |

What a serene setting! They certainly made me feel comfortable and “at home” during my business trip! They've turned a hectic business trip into a lesson on the art of living.
And what beautiful breakfasts! Breakfasts were delicious, and the fresh flowers were thoughtful. I loved the garden setting - especially the “Julie “ mango tree laden with mangoes suspending over the pool. It was a beauty!
I also enjoyed a few moments relaxing in the hot Jacuzzi.
In addition, Alicia House was strategically located, within walking distance to the business centers and to the conference hall where our meetings were conducted.
I would surely consider returning in a few weeks on future business trips, and extend this to my other co-workers, friends and relatives.
Thank you for being such a wonderful Ambassador for Trinidad. Good luck! |

On a three-day business trip to the capital of Trinidad, I stayed at the Alicia's Guest House.
The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. I found the staff courteous and knowledgeable. The surroundings were clean and safe, and the property was in a convenient location.
I enjoyed the local food, and did get opportunity to visit the pool and Jacuzzi in spite of my tight schedule.
I recommend this property to others visiting Port of Spain, seeking safe, convenient and pleasant accommodation at reasonable rates. |

I was totally happy to see my wife enjoy her birthday. My wife had just gone through losing her mother in January, and wanted to spend a relaxing week in Trinidad.
The staff treated us like family. We were especially satisfied with the food and all the amenities. We were extremely comfortable, and the rooms were clean and well kept.
I want to thank the management and staff for an enjoyable stay. See you next year when we come for the Carnival! |

I recently visited Trinidad for a week to celebrate my birthday. I stayed at Alicia's Guest House, and it was a sad day to leave.
The Guest House brought back memories of being at home - the staff and management treated me like family.
The food was tasty, and the local fresh fruit every morning was great.
I was especially happy there was a pool and Jacuzzi. After a day of sightseeing, I found it refreshing. Thank you to the staff and management, I will savor the memories. |

My stay at Alicia's House was extremely comfortable and relaxing. All the service personnel (front desk and housekeeping) were extremely helpful and pleasant.
Alicia's House is conveniently located near the capital, Port of Spain and the savannah. I was able to go to see the parade of bands during "Carnival". I also went sight seeing (the zoo and the Rock Gardens) very easily. They were all in walking distance.
My room was clean, and the pool and the Jacuzzi were wonderful. The breakfast and dinners were savory. The chef really did a fantastic job.
All in all, I had a wonderful time, and I highly recommend staying there. I think you will really enjoy the atmosphere. I will be back for the summer. Thanks for a wonderful stay. |

My husband and I stayed at Alicia's House from January 9 to January 22, 2007. Our stay at Alicia's House was great. It was a small hotel, but the ambience and the service were both wonderful.
The front receptionist was courteous, and greeted us with a friendly smile and did everything to ensure we were comfortable and make us feel at home. It was exactly as what it says: "A home away from home"
We enjoyed breathtaking early morning stroll around the savannah, which was ideally located near to Alicia's House. We returned to some delicious breakfast that came with our package.
We enjoyed the local breakfasts that were served on Wednesdays and Fridays - especially the bake and salt fish with the "organic avocadoes" that were freshly picked from the backyard. We were amazed to see how the local/owner hand -picked these avocadoes.
The pool was lovely, not to mention the "hot" Jacuzzi (it was out of this world). Every morning, we swarmed in the pool, then went to the Jacuzzi for a five-minute relaxing moment.
Our room was clean and comfortable, and equipped with all the amenities AC, television, phone and a mini refrigerator.
All in all, our stay at Alicia's House was a memorable one. We will definitely be returning soon. I would highly recommend my friends and family to stay here. |

The hotel provided us with a slice of tropical paradise. The lush green vegetation and the well laid out surroundings were very impressive.
Also, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and gave us that famous Caribbean hospitality that we have always been hearing about.
The rooms were tastefully done and brought out the true Caribbean flavor.
The meals were excellent, and provided us with a choice of American or Caribbean cuisine. We would definitely be returning to Alicia's House on our next trip to Trinidad. |

I agree with Joe's posting. I, too, was robbed. I felt uncomfortable with the staff having their friends hanging out there at all times of the night.
I suggest you stay away from this place. |

My sister stayed here while in Trinidad for my wedding. While she was sleeping, someone "broke into" her room and stole her $700 camera, her watch, and a couple hundred dollars from her wallet. Luckily, they did not do anything to her physically.
We believe the staff tampered with the crime scene, and changed the locks before the police could arrive to do an investigation. When we asked if they would call the police, the staff told us the police in Trinidad did not really work on Sundays, so we should wait until Monday. We found that to be a lie.
We asked to see the video tape of that night. The management told us they had already watched the tape, and there was nothing there. But when the police arrived, the manager could not get the tape machine to work.
In the end, I leave you with what Constable Campbell from the Belmont Police Station said to the manager in front of all of us: "Ms. Sutton, you need to take a look at your staff and you need to look at yourself. This is not the first time, it is not the second time we have come here for this kind of thing. We have been here many times under similar circumstances. It is hurtful to our image as a country."
The owners of Alicia's house refused to meet with us, have never returned our phone calls, and have ignored letters sent by our attorneys. I suggest you stay clear of Alicia's guest when traveling to Trinidad.

The maid, Jennifer, was wonderful. The rooms were okay. The pool needed to be cleaned several times a day. The jacuzzi has not worked in two months! Although, we were assured it would be fixed soon. In addition, the AC didn't work - and no alternative was offered and no repair was made during our stay.
Ask for a room off the first floor and away from the entrance, or you are guaranteed to get no sleep. I was up all night with the traffic coming in and up early when the noisy kitchen staff started at 6:00 am.
If you expect a washtowel, it will cost you $2.
Also, there were no chairs on the veranda on which to sit.
Finally, the power went out during our stay, and we were given laterns. The next night, they called at 3:00 am to have them returned to the front desk! What is that all about?
I would never stay here again, even it were the last available location on the island! |

They claimed to have some many amenities, however they weren't working while I was here. They also tried to make the guesthouse into a family home, but it wasn't.
In addition, the pool was dirty, and the Jacuzzi wasn't working from the day I arrived until the day I left. However, the staff claimed it would be fixed.
Never again would I stay here unless it was the only place left if I didn't book somewhere else early enough. Some of the staff were nice, though. |

Alicia's Guest House is a delightful refuge in a busy city. Visited: April 2004 |

We intended to stay only five nights at Alicia's, but stayed for eight because we were treated so well and felt so good here.
In Port of Spain, Alicia's Guest House was our quiet, delightful refuge with easy access to Queen Park Savannah, the zoo, Botanical Gardens, and cheap public route taxis down to the heart of the city.
We stayed twice (begining and end of our trip) and both times we had spotlessly clean rooms with much appreciated air conditioning. Each room was unique so you don't get that generic hotel/motel impersonal feel. Security was good, and the pool and jacuzzi felt great at the end of each day.
When the main house was filled, we stayed at Alicia's Palace, a gorgeous place on a hill with a knock-out view of the city and the bay. The staff at both places was very kind and seemed proud of Alicia's House. Specifically the desk staff, Trish and Maria, and cleaning staff were always ready to answer questions and help us however they could. I loved the huge vases of fresh flowers, the goldfish pool, the entry covered with an archway of flowers and the quiet in the house and the neighborhood.
Just out the front door and up the spiral staircase was a tour company called "Banwari" where Christine and Andrew did a marvelous job of showing us some highlights of Trinidad without making us feel like "just another number" tourists.
Their goal was to give their clients the best possible Trinidad/Tobago experience and they seemed to do whatever it took...driving in pouring rain and heavy traffic to see the turtles, give us a ride to the ferry to make sure we got there on time, meet us at the airport with tickets, and introduce us to the best doubles and corn soup in Trinidad.
I highly recommend Alicia's Guest House, Banwari, and if you want to be totally spoiled, Alicia's Palace above the city. |

I have now stayed at five hotels in four trips to Trinidad and none have been posh. However, I would still put Alicia's at the bottom of the list.
Perhaps I had the maid's room, it was dark and stark. I would not recommend the food, period. Walk to town? Sure, but you could get a cardiac attack climbing the mountain on the way back.
I will say the staff was nice, but can't think of anything else.
Believe me, I am not a picky person. |

I happened to be in Trinidad with my father at this particular time, and after a few sleepless nights in various hotels in Trin, we somehow ventured upon Alica's.
At first, I argued with my father that we were too far away from everything, but it was just too hot and so we booked in. Until this day that has got to be one of my better decisions as our stay here was such an absolute pleasure and a truly memorable experience. It was an experience that has remained with me and always will.
I feel pressed to type this review because if any establishment deserves praise, it is this fabulous guesthouse. The people who worked here were the most polite, friendly and helpful people it has ever been my pleasure to encounter. It was a genuine breath of fresh air and an inspiration to us all.
The kitchen staff cooked the most delightful food on order and this was always with a smile and a bit of banter. The room my father and I had was perfect at the very top and with a view of the tropical birds congregating in the tree opposite at night - fantastic.
I actually had my birthday here and it was great. One thing that always sticks in my mind was the pool with the mango tree hanging down into it, unique and characteristic, a landmark of Alica's!
My father and I both enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to any traveler. The staff at this beautiful place deserve a 'pat on the back' because it was such a rarety to find such an obliging workforce. They should be over here in the UK training all our miserable workers. However, we do have to account for your hot weather, maybe that is your secret. Keep up the good work - you are an inspiration to us all. |

| Alicia’s Guest House attracts mostly business travelers but vacationing couples and families also take advantage of this house that is only minutes from the downtown Capitol of Port of Spain. This would be an ideal location during Carnival since Queen’s Park... |
