 Tropical Holiday Visited: July 2008 |

We recently returned from staying at the tropikist hotel and i must say one thing..forget the negative reviews..all the guests holidaying there with us had good things to say. The hotel is drab looking and could do with a brighten face, but the service you cannot beat, it is a five star service..ali and alyson in the bar is great, the front desk girls excellent and the house keeping staff does a really good job of keeping your room clean. Sam the manager is great and attends to your complaint even if you catch him running down the corridor ( yes we all ask him what he runs on, it cannot be vitamins alone) The food we got was really nice, it tweeked to reflect the local taste and breakfast is not half bad..I would recommend the tropikist as it is value for money but dont go complaining as you reach, give them a ear, they are trying with what they have.. |

| Almost perfect Place to Stay Visited: April 2008 |

I stayed here in Late spring for almost 2 weeks. The Breakfast was great and had a great view out into the gardens while eating in the Dining Room. Gardens are great just the odd Piles of debris in the Corners. Staff was great and friendly,, . An almost perfect place.
The 4 problems that I noted was a Noisy A/C , Beds were a Bit hard, Jacuzzi was out of order, and the Water issues that only occured the last 3 day I was there.. Otherwise very clean large rooms, Full amenities, cable TV, Fridge, Phone a/c,.
I would like to give atleast 3.5 out of 5.
I wish they would get rid of the Piles of Junk in the corner of the gardens, Fix the Jacuzzi, fix the Water issues and the Noisy A/C which I cleaned out the Filter for.

the house was very stuffy needed cleaning and the bed linens dirty when we arrived had to request to have them change and the fridged cleaned up. to many old furnishing in the house no clean place to hang your clothes after paying 500 us to stay a week. |

 Relaxing and Unique Visited: June 2008 |

We spent three nights in Cuffe River in June and it was a very relaxing and unique experience. The peace and quiet with only the sounds of the rain forest was something we will remember forever.
The food was great, very natural and local. Our nature walk with Desmond was very informative and interesting.
Regina and the staff were very helpful and great hosts. |

We spent a very pleasurable week with Pat and Ray in July. They were both incredible helpful and informative. It was a real pleasure to have such a wonderful breakfast served up to us each morning. It amazed me that Pat and Ray could cook a different breakfast each day and I often lingered over a second or third cup of tea. It was wonderful also to have any laundry done each day and it was also often washed and ready on our beds the same morning.
Beach towels were also available for us each day. Ray also very kindly helped our two children with any beach toys they wanted. Our children loved staying at Pat and Rays and since our return home they have often mentioned them both as if they were family friends.
Thanks again for a wonderful holiday in Tobago and we really miss the place since our return.

I stayed at the Palms Hotel in July, and it was wonderful!
It was clean, neat, and well-kept. The maid service was terrific, the staff was polite, and the room had all the amenities I needed.
I will stay here again. |

Manta Lodge has clearly seen far better days. When we stayed here in June, we found the accommodation less than basic. Also, the bathrooms were filthy, mouldy and not fit for purpose. The showers barely worked, and we were without water in the hotel for two days.
The owners didn't seem to care about the paying guests, but had lots of friends and family staying who would hang around and make a nuisance of themselves.
The staff - apart from two of them - were rude, lazy and behaved as if they couldn't be bothered. The food was pricier and less varied than other local restaurants.
We moved hotels because we couldn't stand the dirty state we were staying in. The next door hotel was great. It was spotless, and they had newish bathrooms with decent water supply.
If we couldn't have moved, we'd have gone home. Realize that until this place undergoes some major repairs and renovation, it's less than basic. Also, the bathrooms need ripping out and redoing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. |

We had a great time here at the Tropikist Hotel dont believe all the bad reviews. Yes the hotel is a bit run down and needs updating but value for money is good. A new Manager called Sam has now taken over the running of the hotel and change cannot happen overnight. But any complaints he is willing to sort for you. The bar staff were great especially Alison and Ali they serve with a smile and will interact with you. The hotel has 2 swimming pools but nothing else. The food is full english breakfast, snacks at lunch. Evening meal has quite a lot of spices which we love, but if you don't eat spices you may struggle a bit. The hotel has very little entertainment at night and the bar closes at 10.30pm. So don't expect a night life. The area is dead at night. Larry is the chef there and he is a great guy and always smiling. Unfortunately although the hotel has a beach front you cannot go in the sea there due to the coral reef, but store bay is only round the corner and Pigeon Point a 15 minute walk. The hotel is very close to the airport, but as there are only a few planes landing and taking off all day it does not cause a problem. Thanks to all at Tropikist our holiday was great and we met some wonderful holidaymakers there too. |

We recently stayed at the Palms Hotel, and found that they are on par with hotels here in the USA.
They have a great location, offer good service, and provide comfy beds and an ample breakfast. Shuttle service to the airport is reasonably priced, and on time.
This is now our "home away from home" whenever we visit Trinidad! It is highly recommended. |

My stay here was great. The room was very clean, spacious, and well ventilated. The linens was very clean, and the house keeping was great.
Also, the breakfast was quite delicious. Most of all, the location was perfect. |

Having stayed previously in 2003, we wondered if it was as nice as we remembered. Well, this place was lovely!
Our room at the back of the house was bright and airy. The bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and spacious. We stayed in the front room previously - it was larger and more private with its own outside entrance. It was probably the more preferable of the two, but this last room was still also very comfortable.
The house has been beautifully restored/renovated, obviously with a lot of sympathy for the character of its era. It was a charming and gracious place. The small pool and deck at the back were welcome additions since our last trip. They were too small for swimming, but perfect for cooling down after some very hot days.
Rosemary, the owner, was a gem. She was unobtrusive, but extremely helpful and welcoming. Bernadette, her helper, was also a delight with her friendly and helpful personality. They really proved that it’s the people who make an establishment. These two lovely ladies certainly helped make our stay the pleasure it was.
The location was brilliant. It was a very short walk to the bank/ATM around the corner, and to many fabulous restaurants and bars. We walked each night for dinner/drinks without any hassles. If you’re there for the cricket, it’s also only a short walk to the Queens Park oval. Downtown Port of Spain was also within walking distance.
I can really recommend the Gingerbread House if you’re after something much more special than the usual ‘run-of –the-mill’ hotel. |

From the time you arrive, you notice the clean and bright atmosphere. The staff is top notch, and very helpful.
We had a room on the 17th floor overlooking the bay. We were greeted with complimentary chocolates and water the first night. The room was very nice with all the accommodations.
We would recommend it to anyone. |

A lodging experience can be devastating when visiting a family property. I was made to immediately feel welcomed. Every need was met by the staff.
Also, the food was impeccably presented.
I left, all too soon, in an enchanted state that exceeded my expectations. |

I stayed at the Hilton for romantic weekend getaway. What I expected of the big name "Hilton" ended up being a huge disappointment!
There was mildew, broken bar doors, and the hotel needs a paint job badly, as the exterior was full of mildew! It was an embrassing memory.
For how many decades has the Hilton been in Trinidad? Don't they even care to re-model it? They should re-check the five-star rating that was given to this hotel! |

It is easily the most beautiful location on the island. It's a sleepy fishing village, and if relaxation is what you are looking for - don't bother finding anywhere else.
What makes it stand out is that they have a fantastic manager who can provide whatever trip you want, whether that be by boat, hiring a jeep hire, going turtle watching or anything else. Just ask for Porridge.
The apartments are lovely and well looked after. But it is the location and unrivaled view that really make the stay memorable. |

My family spent two great weeks at Castara Retreats in May. Hummingbird 1 had everything we needed for an ‘away from it all’ holiday.
It was part of a larger house made mainly of wood, and we had a large private veranda as well as an outdoor patio area. The outdoor shower was much appreciated after beach trips (there was also an indoor one). Also, the flat was cleaned and the sheets and towels changed every few days.
The house was set in grounds full of tropical plants. Carrington, the gardener, supplied us with regular fruit samples. From the veranda, there was a lovely view across the bays, and we enjoyed watching the boats, the birds, the stingrays and the shoals of fish (which we thought were seaweed clumps until we swam through them!).
On top of the location, the staff at Castara Retreats (Porridge, Jeanelle and their team) was truly lovely. They were always contactable if we needed to know how to do (or get) something. They made us feel that nothing was ever a bother.
The smaller bay at Castara had great snorkeling off the beach, and the beach and water were both clean and safe. The village had a relaxed, timeless Caribbean quality that we hope is never spoilt.
All in all, it was a brilliant holiday!

We stayed here in April, but will definitely not be visiting again.
The room was claustrophobic in that the only sunlight the room got was if the front door was left open - not the best idea!
Also, the restaurant left a lot to be desired. Breakfast was from 7 am to 10 am. However, when we asked for fruit (which was advertised on the menu), we were told by a rather surly young woman that there was none left, and we should have "come down earlier." We were at the table at 8: 50 am!
On another day, when serving us, the waitress had on an apron that was filthy - and enough for an environmental officer to close the kitchen down. Not to worry, we looked forward to Saturday's breakfast menu which boasted "local food" consisting of saltfish and ackee with bakes. We arrived down for breakfast, and when we ordered this we were told that the cook "forgot" to buy the ingredients for this meal so it was not on offer.
Also, the crockery was chipped, cutlery was stained, and tables were not laid adequately with me having to 'steal' crockery from other tables! The astounding thing was that the owner was sitting in the same dining room having breakfast herself, and appeared oblivious to the goings on in her establishment.
When we approached her to complain, she said she was "hard of hearing." How convenient!
To cite this guest house as one of the better ones, and to advertise it in the Trinidad Tourist brochure as one of the better ones, is a travesty of the truth. |

My girlfriends and I stayed here for Carnival 2008. We booked our rooms through a third party, and were overcharged and misinformed. Nonetheless, we were moderately happy with the rooms and the overall service of the hotel.
The front desk agents were well informed and eager to help. The hotel only had two taxi drivers, so this could be a deterrent for business travlers.
The security was extreme. At sunset, they locked the front gate to the driveway of the hotel and had guards there asking for room keys and numbers. Also, at midnight the hotel doors were locked and you had to buzz the front desk. It was a bit peculiar.
In addition, the pool was dirty, so we didn't use it. The breakfast was great, though.
We are looking into other accommodations for next year. |

We booked a night here based on online reviews. We found the room was very nice, comfortable, and clean - with a great shower, full cable, and free Wi-Fi!
They also had comfortable beds and nice furniture - it was very refreshing!
Hotels in Port of Spain can be pricy, but the Palms was definitely the best way to go. It was about half of what the Holiday Inn Express charged - which was nearby. They also arranged shuttles to the airport for a small fee...something like $15 TT, which was just a few dollars. |
