Management seems to be totally ignorant of customer service. It appears they just do not care! The rooms need upgrading. It was not a clean environment at all. The food (breakfast in particular) was equal to a fast food restaurant on a side street. There were a few pleasant employees on site, but most did not seem care to serve or please. Never again will I stay here. Never. |

Despite the fact that I had been on the website looking at Castara from the day I booked, I had not dared to hope that it would be as amazing as described. Well, it was. From our arrival at the airport, looking out for Porridge and knowing immediately it must be him from his happy smiling face, to him taking us back ten days later with hugs and kisses and beers all round - everything was wonderful. Rainforest was perfect, it felt as though we were living in a tree house, and we managed to idle away many an hour just watching the beach and the birds and butterflies. The beach was endlessly fascinating. We watched the fishermen go out to sea early in the mornings, the children playing in the shallows, the sting rays and the pelicans diving for fish. There was good snorkeling from Little Bay, and lovely warm swimming. We bought fish from the fisherman, and both Marieta and Veronica cooked for us. We ate roti at Da Almond Tree, pizza and curries at the Boat House, fresh fish at Margueret's, and bacon and eggs at Cheno's coffee shop. Sherwin took us out fishing, then barbequed our fish in the pouring rain! We had an interesting rainforest trip with Darren Henry. But most of the time we just limed! Our two young adult children had a great time, too. They enjoyed being part of the village and not being in a over-commercialized holiday destination. We loved the fact the local people seemed to accept visitors so easily and so many people wanted to chat and be friendly. Our thanks to Jean at the other end of the emails and telephone for being so helpful and kind from the start; and to Porridge, Jeanelle and all the team in Tobago who were so welcoming and made us feel so accepted. And, of course, thanks to Sue and Steve for creating such an amazing place. |

Our experience with staying at La Casablanca was beyond our expectations. The owners were extremely nice and helpful, and their house was warm and welcoming. Breakfasts were fantastic, big and filling. In the morning we woke up to the smell of pancakes or omelets, with a beautiful view from our window. In the evenings we came back to a perfectly clean room, fresh towels and washed laundry. The hospitality of La Casablanca was much more than what we would have expected from a hotel. They had a very personal approach. The owners were always happy to give advice or information, picked us up from the airport, and invited us to try some traditional food every now and then. We would certainly recommend La Casablanca, and we will be coming back next time we are in Tobago. |

My wife and I returned today from spending four nights at the Tropikist. We needed a getaway and I chose the Tropikist from a friend's recommendation. It was our first time in Tobago (believe it or not, we are locals and it was our first time here). We used the opportunity to explore the island and relax. I chose the all-inclusive option as I did not want to have to worry about finding food. It worked out well for us. Breakfast, although very basic, was still varied. I guess they work with what they can afford. Lunch was always the same. Dinner was tasty, but lacked variety. It was always either fish or chicken. This hotel had an excellent, priceless restaurant overlooking the ocean, and should use this to their advantage and make some money off it. However, the owner seems reluctant to spend money. The pool was very nice and relaxing. It was good for us. The room was comfortable and clean. It lacked furnishings. The beds also really need to be changed. Where have you seen wooden beds in the world? Don't the owners travel or stay in other hotels? |

After much pestering from my younger child to go to Tobago on vacation, we ended up at the Tropikist. It was beautifully located, and had all the trimmings of a great hotel. However, the owners seem to lack vision and the ability to spend money. They really need to update this hotel, as this can become a premier hotel in Tobago because of its layout and location. The manager, Sammy, was a really great guy who seemed to work very hard and is really dedicated to his job. The staff was great and tried to help in what way they could. You couldn't fault them, yet most people seem to blame them. What can they do on a limited budget? It is up to the owners to spend the money on quality food and drinks. Remember, the manager operates on what he can afford on his budget. Our meals were good. We enjoyed our time here, and, most importantly, the children enjoyed their vacation. So, to the owners of Tropikist... spend some money on the hotel, you are sitting on a gold mine. |

We are Trinis by birth living in the USA. We choose the Tropikist after searching for hotels in Tobago, as we really wanted to visit Tobago with our families. The Tropikist was very willing to accommodate our large family, and we were happy to get poolside rooms. We spent all day in the larger pool. It was really nice for the children, getting to awaken each day and see and hear the ocean is priceless. Thank you to all the staff at the Tropikist for an enjoyable stay. |

We have recently returned from a two-week stay at Castara Retreats, and we had a simply wonderful time. It would be very easy to repeat all the passionately written compliments and reviews posted here and elsewhere, but all we shall say is: believe them because they are true and correct. The owner's web site is commendably honest and accurate, and we felt fully prepared for our visit in all respects, except one - because nothing can really prepare you for the sheer beauty of the setting of these marvellous accommodations. We stayed in the two-bedroom 'Rainforest' apartment. The 'wow' factor was definitely there from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. If anything though, what really made this holiday for us was the care, help and welcome given by the fantastic team of people at Castara Retreats. Famously led by the terrific Porridge and Jeanelle, they were simply outstanding: not only at what they do, but how they make you feel. We left Castara genuinely feeling that we were leaving a whole gang of new friends behind. We were also fortunate to meet the lovely owners while here. While talking with them, it was obvious how much thought, care and sheer hard work has gone into creating this little bit of paradise. Finally, we need to say that Castara itself is a beautiful, unspoiled and friendly village. Traveling with teenage daughters (who utterly loved it too: no chance of boredom for them), we are always conscious and aware of any possible safety issues. However, here we had no concerns whatsoever. Being such a small village it felt safe, secure and welcoming. On our final day we walked back from the beach through the village - and the shouts and waves goodbye from so many local people in the shops, bars and fishing co-op will be a memory that will live with us forever. Go to Castara. Stay at 'The Retreats'. You'll see what we mean, and you won't be disappointed. |

The bartenders and the waitresses were polite. However, my fiance and I stayed in a cabana at the hotel. What a mess! The place was so small. I don't know how they can say one cabana will sleep four people with privacy for one. First of all, the door didn't seem to be strong enough to stand up against a hard breeze. Maybe it's because we're Trinis, I dont know, but service at the front desk was absolutely unprofessional, offensive, rude and it made me quite angry. Our cabana toilet got clogged. After going to front desk (we called and told them about the problem, and were promised someone would be with us shortly), they told us the best they could do was relocate us to another cabana. Nothing wrong there. However, we had one night and half day again in Tobago, and we had alot of stuff to pack. Imagine my dismay when the guy at the front desk advised my fiance and I that we should move everything bit by bit. Of course, they were not courteous enough to send someone over to help us. I almost had to be a beast attitude-wise for them to send a guy with a trolley. The AC worked well. However, the bad filter caused my sinus to act up. The floor was pure white tiles, and was always somewhat wet and very cold. The remote for the TV didn't work well, and some of the channels were barely visible. The dishes were very bland-looking, and there was no dishwashing liquid in the kitchenette. Also, when it was time for us to leave, we requested a taxi (from the hotel). We were told that he left already, and we should have made prior arrangements. I thought that when I sent them our flight information and a downpayment, they would have used some sense and call us or estimate the time a driver should come for us to the airport. The receptionist at the front desk gave us attitude wen we inquired about a taxi. She rudely held her hand up to me while she was on the phone. When the driver finally came, he didn't help with our luggage. Then, when we still tipped him, he rudely asked, "Yuh sure?" Dont stay here! |

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The service here was very poor, and the staff was unfriendly. We paid for all-inclusive, but we were not given breakfast if we came down late. I was bruised by the bedsprings, and we were not given our fruit basket. When I asked for it, the fruits I received were all over-ripe and soft. I had expected better, but was disappointed. |

Staying here was an absolute dream. For the past two years, my husband, son and I have spent time in the Sweet Point cottages. They are wonderful "off the beaten path" gems. The Blue Mango is for travelers who are looking to lose themselves in tranquility. If you are looking for a place jam packed with tourists, the Blue Mango and Castara Bay are not for you. We find it to be both romantic and family friendly at the same time. The peace and quiet of the lovely surroundings are just my idea of a vacation. We enjoyed the hummingbirds and butterflies that visited, and the sounds of the ocean. Both my husband and I are artists, and found our stay to be truly inspiring. This year we had planned to further explore Tobago and were so happy in Castara Bay we didn't start the car once. The Blue Mango offers private balconies, and the bay views are just wonderful from sunrise to sunset. Some nights we even took our dinners to go so we could spend more time relaxing under the stars on ours. My husband even counted 13 shooting stars in two nights this year. Breezes through the rooms were delightful. The cottages were comfortable and nicely decorated so that they had a wonderful island feel. They were rustic, but cleanly and well appointed with linens. Having a kitchen in our room is ideal traveling with a child. It offered everything I needed to prepare meals and keep us well equipped with cold rum drinks. Visits from "the fruit king" put fresh mangoes bananas, watermelons and oranges right at our finger tips and the local grocery offered any items we needed. Having hot water in our shower was a nice surprise. Those in the know will tell you this not always an "off the beaten path" luxury. Much to our liking there were not phones to ring and interrupt unwinding or televisions to remind of the outside world. There was, however, wireless Internet to use on which we sent messages home bragging of how much fun we were having. The beach in Castara Bay was lovely - white sand, clear water and calm waves. It was quite satisfying to see tour boats show off the bay and know you get to just stay there. Watching the fishermen pull in the daily catch was even an event. They do sell to local restaurants and eating the king fish, dolphin or mahi mahi straight out of the ocean was just divine (not to mention the yummy curry delights). Snorkeling off the beach to the right side of the bay was also nice. We saw parrot, angel, puffer needle fish and more. Having lots of schools of fish swimming all around was so peaceful. We were able to float on top of the ocean with absolute ease. There was even another small beach around the curve of rocks that was easily accessed. Colin, Rebecca and Trinity have made the Blue Mango a home away from home for us. In every way they helped us to be comfortable and enjoy our stay. They became more than owners of the place we stayed - more like friends. If a small hike to a waterfall interests you, simply inquire and they will explain how to get there. This was the case with most anything we asked for. Rebecca even shared some of her plans for the Clay Kitchen restaurant they are renovating. I cannot wait to return and enjoy the ambiance and tasty local treats we discussed. My only complaint would have been that we would have loved to stay longer. My family is already day dreaming of our next stay at the Blue Mango. |

This was an experience which can be deemed as unforgettable. We were very impressed with the vast variety of birds that could be seen from outside of our window, and the variety of humming birds was amazing to me. My husband loves photography and birds, so he had a ball on the nature walk. The food was out of this world. It was varied, and we enjoyed the local cuisine. Regina is a gem of a woman, and the staff here is quite friendly. The experience was different from any other we've had, and it will never be forgotten. |

We stayed in both Saffron and Cinnamon. Both apartments were traditional, clean, comfortable and well equipped but Saffron suited us best. The open plan apartment felt spacious and airy. Since coming back from Tobago we heard that some guests have complained about the passing traffic, but that was a minor irritation for us. It was definitely offset by the positives of our holiday. The manager, Brigitte, was attentive, friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. Try calling in to see Cheno for breakfast as you walk through Castara. You must put a special dinner order in for Crab and Dumplings, as the restaurant claims this is " finger lickin' good"! The small number of restaurants in the village serve similar food (i.e. chicken or goat) and all are good. However, Cascreole (on the beach) is the best for sunset drinks. Castara fish must be the best we have ever tasted. The price is fantastic, and it was certainly fresh. The local shops sell most items you will need, but go to Scarborough market for a real eye-opening treat. Bird watching is a must on this holiday. The small local yellow and black birds (bananaquit) fly onto the balcony. If you put food out on the balcony for the birds, the results are amazing, especially when the MotMot lands. The two local beaches are quite different, but both are wonderful. We often had the sea to ourselves, and snorkeling off Heavenly Bay is brilliant. We also visited the Castara and Argyle waterfalls - fantastic! A boat trip to Nylon Pool and Coral Gardens is a must - but even better is the BBQ on No Man's Land when you cook what you catch. Before you leave you must 'lime' at Codrington's rum shop next door to the house. There you will meet lots of interesting local people, along with fellow tourists. We give Castara Cottage a five-star rating as natural, friendly apartments within a local community. However, those wanting five-star, up-market, sterile, 'manufactured' accommodation - maybe this place is not for you. |

This has to be the jewel of the crown in Tobago. Note that I am describing the unit above the restaurant overlooking the beach. We had the whole place to ourselves while renovations were going on with the other units. The owner and staff were great, and the peacefullness of Castara was unbeatable. The only thing we missed was air conditioning as the through breezes sometimes didn't happen, but the insects surely did. We will be here again and again. It was lovely, insects and all! |

Castara Retreats is even better than the web site advertises. We stayed in Coasthanger for one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had. The accommodation was superb, and the beach was beautiful. The sunsets were to live for, and we enjoyed the great village and amazing wildlife. I would recommend Castara Retreats to all who want a holiday in natural surroundings and wish to relax and enjoy life |

I always have a wonderful time when I come to this hotel. The rooms are very homey and spacious, and they carry all the basic amenities of a typical apartment. I love the location the most! It is situated right on top of Store Bay, and you have the most fantastic view of Store Bay! The stairway to the beach is quite nifty, and makes the guest feel very privileged. The grounds are very grand with lots of shade if you want to stay out of the sun. My only problem was with one of the front desk staff. I don't know her name, but she is of African descent and she could be quite mean when addressing me. I don't think she knows how to speak to guests even if they are from the next door brother island of Trinidad. Other than that, this is one of the prime places to stay in Tobago. |

This is the third time we have stayed at Enchanted Waters, and each time we have had a terrific vacation. The owners (the Patinos) were very friendly and accommodating from the time of our booking. Car rental was made easy, and they would help with info requested regarding current events. The rooms were comfortable, and it was convenient to have a kitchenette attached. We will be back for Christmas 2009! A big thank you Roger. The rooms were great. |

We stayed here ten nights in April, and we had a wonderful vacation. We were in the Hummingbird 2 apartment, and it was very nice and confortable. The managment of Jeannelle and Porridge was perfect. The garden awesome, and the room was always clean and nice. Come here if you want a completely relaxing location. Here you can really relax from the beginning of the holiday. Don't come here if you look for night life or things like that. It is a very quiet place. |

We need to say it straight away: Castara Retreats is hard to beat! It is one of the most wonderful places we have ever been to. There are various things that make it special. First, the small fishing village of Castara in our opinion is the loveliest place on Tobago. The people there are very friendly and, as a guest, you feel personally welcome by the whole village. Secondly, Porridge and Jeanelle, who run the place, are perfect caretakers. They have a natural way of treating each guest as if he were the most important person staying there. They find solutions for everything and offer you to participate in trips - but in a way that you never feel obliged. Last but not least, the apartments (we stayed in Rainforest) are wonderful. For us this kind of open living was a completely new experience. We enjoyed being in the fresh air for 24 hours a day, cooking in an open kitchen with sea view and waking up by a tender sea breeze or some birds. We loved the place so much that at times we didn't want to leave the apartment. The climate is perfect at each time of the day, and the lovely view to the village and beach makes you feel as if you were in the middle of everything while being very private on your own balcony. Cooking our own fish (which we bought fresh from the fishermen in Castara) with some fresh bread (baked by the women of Castara) while watching the sunset was one of the best experiences ever. We had a perfect stay at Castara Retreats. |

I recently spent seven days with Pat and Ray. Having never been to Tobago before, I was immediately made to feel at home. The service was A plus. Pat actually had my washing in the machine while I ate breakfast - which also meant that when I got home I had nothing to do. Fabulous!. The rooms, the pool, the massive breakfasts, were all great. Also, the views were breathtaking. Ray took us round the island and showed us all the interesting places. I know we would never have seen or known about these places without his vast knowledge. You couldn't wish to meet two nicer, caring, considerate people. I am recommending that all my friends go to La Casablanca. It is well worth more than one visit. I hope to see Ray and Pat again very soon. |
