| We stayed here because it was late at night, and the taxi driver at the airport said it was reasonable place to stay. However, the service was terrible and the food was almost just as bad. I wouldn't recommend this place to my enemies. |

| The rooms were clean, the facilities were really good, and the breakfast was excellent. I loved my stay here. The only drawback was that the key card didn't work sometimes. |

Tradewinds Hotel is a home away from home! Visited: February 2009 |

| I just wanted to express how extremely pleased I was with my trip back home for Carnival 2009. I live in the Bahamas now, and visited my home country with Bahamian friends and we all loved it! We arranged transportation with the hotel shuttle service, with a very nice driver named Nigel, and the courteous front desk staff was very helpful in assisting us with any information we needed. Even though we were busy with fetes and other events, the Friday night karaoke was a blast! Our rooms were clean and spacious, the food was excellent, and the location was great. I was able to be close to family and friends, yet be close to the highway for Port of Spain events! This was a wonderful hotel and I recommend it to everyone. I am looking forward to returning in 2010. |

| I must say thank you to the staff at Tradewinds Hotel for a very warm welcome and the hospitality that my other half and I received. The food at Driftwood was out of this world, and the service was unbelievable. I could go on and on, but you have to experience it for yourself. I will be back at Tradewinds for a longer stay in October. I'm sure my experience will be even better. Oh, I must not forget Franklin, the security guard. I appreciated his help in everything. He made sure we were comfortable. See you guys at Tradewinds soon! |

| I stayed at this guest house, and it was a nightmare. When we arrived, there was no water. It was hard to go somewhere else to bathe. Also, the kitchen was a very filty. The only good thing I could say is that the house was completely empty when we were here, so privacy wasn't a problem. I won't recommend Tony's Guest House to anyone. |

They need a small restaurant. Visited: January 2009 |

| I stayed two weeks at the Palms in January. I ended up here because my friend did not arrange a place for me. I came in at 8.30 am. The lady at the front desk accommodated me without a reservation. She did not even charge me an early check in, as with other hotels. She offered me their continential breakfast, while I waited for my friend to find me. I later learned her name is Kathy-Ann, and she is the manager. I have not seen a person so willing to serve the needs of the guests. She was always there to help. I thought she was the owner - she was in early, and would leave late every day! She took Sunday off, and still the lady at the front desk (Pamela) was able to access Ms. Castillo to solve any problem. That is exquisite! The hotel was clean, light and airy. The rooms were modern, and the beds were comfortable. They also had cable, WI FI, and hot water. The air conditioning worked wonderfully. In addition, Michael, the hotel's driver, was knowledgeable and always punctual. The breakfast should be a full breakfast, not a continental. They did not have a restaurant, but there was a Chinese restaurant and a Roti shop within walking distance. There was also the Trincity Mall. This hotel offers value for your money. It's the same quality as the brand name hotel close by, but for half the price. I must also comment on the warm, comfortable, and homey atmosphere of the Palms Hotel. I also appreciated the gracious and genuine hospitality of Ms. Castillo. You can see she loves her work, and it shows in the level of comfort that is provided for all who stay there. |

It was very poor. Visited: February 2009 |

| My husband and I were very disappointed with the service we received at the Melbourne Inn. The price was reasonable, and the rooms were okay. However, the service was terrible. The lady at the front desk had a very rude attitude. It was as though she did not want to help - even though she tried to because it was her job. There were big roaches. I saw one of them in the room as I was checking out. I'm glad I didn't see it when I checked in! There are no refrigerators in the room. At least put a small fridge in the rooms for guests to use! If we needed to use a refrigerator, we were told to go upstairs, so if we had any drinks, we had to leave it in a refrigerator where it would be accessed by other guests. The stove looked as though it had been there 100 years - very unclean. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Usually I don't like to complain, but this was ridiculous. They need to make some major improvements. |

| They have wonderful staff - they open doors and treat you well. They also provide complementary newspapers from all over the world. The beds are comfortable, they offer wall-mounted plasmas, and have chocolate in the room. The shower concept is interesting - not what i'm used to, but it could work. I wasn't sharing the room. They have a great pool deck, and restaurant ambience was nice. |

Visit The Gingerbread House, and you will not be disappointed. Visited: March 2009 |

| The Gingerbread House is an oasis from the bustle of Port of Spain, well-placed for the ferry port, the bus terminus, not forgetting Queen's Park Oval and lots of places to eat and drink. We stayed in the front bedroom (family room) for a week. We had comfy beds, a spacious en-suite bathroom, plenty of storage space for bits and pieces, plus a TV for husband and 13-year-old son to keep up with the English Premier League! Rosemary and Bernard Mackay have carefully restored the old house. It is a charming blend of old and new, welcoming and comfortable. Every morning, sustained by Rosie's full Anglo-Caribbean breakfast, we sallied forth either to watch England lose the Test match at Queen's Park Oval or to explore Port of Spain and further afield knowing we could return to cool down in the splash pool or relax in the garden before going out again. Rosie Mackay has lived in Trinidad for over 30 years, and her advice on getting round, where to eat, and what to avoid is as good as a guidebook. We used to consult "The Oracle" most days and she never failed us. Nothing was too much trouble for Rosie and we all soon felt at home. Do visit The Gingerbread House, you will not be disappointed. |

It is what it is. I felt very safe here. Visited: February 2009 |

| We stayed at Cascadia Hotel for the carnival, and it is what it is. The hallway carpet smelled old. However, the room we got was not that bad. The hotel was about five minutes drive further than the Normandie, so it was a little isolated, gated, and by tucked to the left on a hill. Safety in Trinidad is a huge concern, and I must say I felt very safe here. There was an electronic safe in the room where we could safely store our items, and change the codes every time we wished. I was able to safely keep my 15-inch laptop in the safe. One thing, we had the do not disturb sign on the door, and we spoke to the housekeeper not to clean the room. However, some other housekeeper came after her, ignored the sign, and entered and cleaned up for us, changed the linens and made the beds. That was weird, even with the sign - but it was okay seeing we had placed items in the safe already. The hotel front desk staff, Pat, was a darling who worked with me so much. Whenever I needed a taxi, she called for it and assisted us along the way. She was, and is, a wonderful person. She was very concerned about us, and made sure we were okay. Breakfast was delicious, and was included in our rate. I was able to pick up breakfast and take to the room. The grounds were very beautiful, but the rooms need a lot of updating. However, the linens on the beds were clean, and we received clean and fresh linens while we were here. Carnival Monday morning the water was off. When we called, they said they were working on it. When it came back, it was brown and quickly became clear, so we were able to shower and get to our mass band. All in all, out of a possible five, I give Cascadia a five for service thanks to Pat; a five for security including the safe; a three for food because the bread was quite hard most of the time; and one and a half for the décor of the rooms and the conditions of the rooms. Considering all that (believe it or not), I might just return because of the service and how safe I felt in the hotel. |

Palms Hotel is a little gem. Visited: March 2009 |

| While traveling with friends to watch the test match in Trinidad, we desperately needed somewhere to stay as the hotel we had booked into was so disgusting we couldn't stay in it. As all other hotels in port of spain were fully booked, I was recommended the Palms, by the Holiday Inn and booked two rooms. The hotel was absolutely delightful. It was first class for cleanliness and quality of rooms. Also, the friendly and helpful staff made our stay a delight. Unfortunately, there was no restaurant or bar. However, it was very close to Trincity Mall where there were many nice restaurants. |

| I had an excellent stay in this nice, clean hotel. It was easy access to both Port of Spain and the airport. I stayed for six nights watching test cricket in Port of Spain. They offered cheap rooms when compared with other hotels - and it was safe. |

| The area was dreadful. There were no restaurants, except a few risky fast food joints. It did not seem safe at night. The owners seemed cold and unfriendly. The first thing they did was to verify the validity of our currency under a lamp - and with a magnifying glass! The bed was dirty (we found what looked like pubic hair). Also, the room had tiny bugs. To top it off, breakfast was awful. The butter was rancid, and the staff had sour looks on their faces. Just go anywhere - but not to this house of horrors. |

| My experience at the Hyatt was a comfortable one, except for the shower arrangements and the fact that there was no balcony. The price of the breakfast was also very expensive for just toast and jam. The water pressure was low during my companion and my baths. Also, the shower head that you had to hold during the bath was very uncomfortable to do, and neither of us felt clean when we were finished. |

| If I begin to talk about Monique's Guest House, I probably won't finish because of how disgusted I am of the place, and how I feel like I was cheated by the owner. I stayed at Monique's in October 2008 because I had a family funeral to attend. The first night, there were roaches in the bathtub. They switched our room, my mom and I that is, for it was almost midnight. By the next day, I decided to boil some water in their kettle for some tea. As I opened the electric kettle, I almost vomited it was so filthy and dirty. It looked as if it had not been washed for months. Before we reported this, they called saying we had to leave the room as they said someone had reserved the room (although we were told it was low season). We had already unpacked everything, so we had to repack (and they showed no sympathy). We brought the kettle to the manager's attention. She said it was because of the weather, and that it must have happened in a couple days or so. It was nasty, gross, unsanitary - you name it. She offered nothing, and we were easy going as we were only in town for a funeral. To make a long story short - I wish I had called the health department. Monique's Guest House was not the place for me. In addition, she told us to have breakfast on the house. I realized when we got back to Toronto, our Visa has been charged $30 for that. I am furious, and advise no one to stay here. |

I received terrible service. Visited: August 2008 |

| During my stay at this hotel, I found out very early that the food was not prepared properly and clean. The cutlery at the hotel was dirty, and clearly not cleaned properly. I ended up buying food from a fast food outlet near by and took it back to my room. Afterward, I went to the pool. It is very small - like a hot tub. When I went up to my room after, I found that someone had eaten out of my food in my room. The only people who had access to my room were housekeeping staff. When I reported it to the front desk, they did not seem to care and they told me that they could not do anything about that. Both elevators in the hotel were out of service for my entire stay. Apparently, they had no intentions to fix it either. This was the worst hotel I ever stayed at. |
