This coastal trail, dating back to the days of the Lucayan Indians, will allow you to hike or bike to many of Middle Caicos' most alluring sites. See the Flamingo Pond and the dramatic limestone bluffs of Mudjin Harbour, or take a detour to Indian Caves. The entire trail can be walked in less than five hours; but visitors who have learned to enjoy the relaxed pace of the islands will appreciate the sights more by breaking up this tour over a couple of days. The island's seldom-visited shores are great for simple pleasures such as collecting shells. The CPT Hiking Trail extends from Conch Bar to a point just beyond Blowing Hole, then west to the Crossing Place. The trail varies in difficulty as it traverses ironshore coastal ridge, old inland roadway, or sections of the beach and tracks approximately 4.5 miles. A car park has been established near Norbellis Cove to facilitate those who prefer a shorter hike. Based on an average walking rate of 2 miles/hour, a minimum of 4.5 hours is needed to complete the trail. Portions of the path are rugged ironshore and sand, requiring greater skill and stamina than needed on a leisurely walk and the breathtaking views and deserted beaches demand that one stops and spends some time. To complete the entire trail, a full day is suggested. Options include embarking on the trail at different intervals, such as hiking from Conch Bar with a pickup at Indian Cave or Mudjin Harbour, or strolling from Norbellis Cove down to the Blowing Hole and back. Tour packages can be customized to suit anyone’s preferences to include hiking and biking. (close)

JoJo is a dolphin that swims the waters off Providenciales. He has developed a special bond with humans and can often be found playing and being active with people and the passing boats. In 1987, JoJo, according to letters to the government, had become a tourist liability. The dolphin had reportedly been attacking humans after being exploited as a "pet" for commercial interests. Knowing the dolphin, Dean Bernal wanted to correct the misconceptions of the dolphin's antics before JoJo was placed in captivity. Dean petitioned the Turks and Caicos Ministry of Natural Resources, stating that the dolphin was defending himself against harassment and that the dolphin should be protected as a unique resource. In 1989, JoJo was declared a 'National Treasure' and Dean was appointed as the dolphin's official warden. Because of JoJo's uniqueness, the friendly dolphin has become a powerful symbol for nature conservation. Dean created the JoJo Project not only to raise awareness, but to educate and protect, not only JoJo, but all wildlife and their habitats. (close)

That's a much better option. As you enter the stables, you will see a coral on the right with a collection of local donkeys and horses. The local kids get a fee for bringing them in, but many believe they also are the ones who let them escape for future catch. Kind of like catch and release. Local horses and donkeys used to have value on the island as transportation and farming. But the plantations are gone and the "buggies" have arrived so they do not do much except roam the island and multiply. (close)
