The only cruise ship docks in the Turks and Caicos islands are on Grand Turk. The cruise ships have built a huge shopping area here with restaurants and shops. You will find Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant and lots of place to buy t-shirts, souvenirs and the like.

Built in 1852. If you visit when the cruise ships are in port you will pay $7 to tour the lighthouse. Any other time you can go for free.

Although you might be tempted to ride on of the many wild horses on the island, don't. The local ones are quite wild. The local stables have brought in horses from Jamaica for the tourists to ride. That's a much better option. As you enter the stables, you will see a coral on the right with a collection of local donkeys and horses. The local kids get a fee for bringing them in, but many believe they also are the ones who let them escape for future catch. Kind of like catch and release. Local horses and donkeys used to have value on the island as transportation and farming. But the plantations are gone and the "buggies" have arrived so they do not do much except roam the island and multiply. (close)

There are clues that suggest that the building is over 180 years old, making it one of the oldest surviving private residences in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Grand Turk Island in the West Indies is where the USA had a Project Mercury tracking station with the telemetry site operating electronics equipment. This is the base where John Glenn came when he landed from orbiting the earth and splashing down in nearby waters in 1962.

Nine hole par three course built on the Governor's property using prison labor. Not much of a course, but if you are really missing the links, it will do. Do not go with high expectations.
