3.0 stars This is a great place for the kids and teens! Visited: April 2006
Posted by radarbabe
There were 30-some of us here for my folks' 50th anniversary.

Bad stuff first: Yes, sometimes pools and hot tubs were pretty dirty, but that's to be expected when parents allow their children to swim in them without rubber pants. The staff periodically closed and cleaned things.

The staff was nice and friendly, though sometimes incompetent. Our room keys didn't work for the first three - four days of the week-long trip. Fortunately, one of my kids was in the adjoining room. Really, they tried to fix the thing repeatedly, but to no avail. Finally, the one smart maintenance guy realized the lock needed a new battery or something equally simple.

The room I had was somewhat disappointing - bad mattresses and cramped. Other rooms in our group were great, though, including the adjoining one.

We had some trouble getting special stuff that we had pre-ordered, such as the cake, video equipment, and sparkling cider, etc. But the private parties we had arranged were otherwise great.

Okay then, on to the good stuff. We loved the food, the weather, the pools, and the swim-up pool bars! The bartenders were all quite nice, especially the group in the cigar bar. They made the place feel adult after hours. Not to say I don't enjoy all the cute kiddies running around, but sometimes it's nice to escape.

Also great for that was the French restaurant and adjoining bar where they did a karaoke night that was somewhat entertaining.

I must mention the ridiculous, hokey shows on the outdoor stage, they were a hoot.

We really enjoyed the Japanese grill and the sushi bar. A couple of the people in our group had toddlers who got a lot out of the muppet activities, and the moms felt they were safe.

I personally had only teens to contend with, and it was wonderful to be able to let them roam free. They ran with the little packs of kids their own age and hardly crossed paths with us unless requested.

The divers in our group all loved the facilities. It was not as convenient as it could be, but there was still plenty to do. We snorkelers had the absolute best experience just down the beach at the national park. Stroll down about ten minutes, and there is a small reef roped off, protected. You can swim or snorkel around it and see turtles, rays, and all manner of reef fish.

We especially enjoyed a boat trip taking us to collect sand dollars. We had a friendly dolphin accompany us part of the way.

We also enjoyed Mimosa breakfasts at Reflections, poolside lunches at Arizonas, and yummy crab legs for dinner at Schooners (sometimes a wait, go early or later). All in all, I would love to go again.

I've been to Beaches three times - spread out over five years. Every time it has been an extraordinary experience!

Each visit, I have gotten to experience new activities and and other fun things. Beaches can never be boring - no matter what your age is. There is stuff for everyone to do here. That makes it a perfect place for families of all ages.

The service is fabulous, and the whole environment is so friendly. I recommend Beaches at Turks and Caicos warmly and highly to everyone - no matter age or interest. Beaches has it all!

It was one of the best trips I have ever been on. I was able to meet new teenagers my age, and attend the evening entertainment without my parent worrying about where I was.

I met so many wonderful people here, and created many friendships. The resort was wonderful, the food - although not gourmet - was pretty good. There was a very nice Italian buffet that was good, but it got pretty crowded at night.

The water was so warm and the parasailing was great. Overall, it was a wonderful trip, and I would recommend this resort to anyone!

2.0 stars This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Visited: July 2004
Posted by ktropaitis
Friends of ours had been here a few times and have ranted and raved about it. I guess we went with too high expectations. We stayed a total of six nights and we couldn't wait for our vacation to be over.

My husband and I traveled with our four-year-old daughter and our ten-month-old son. First of all, the place was swarming with mosquitos. Every day we would find at least one or two waterbugs in our room. On one occasion, when the cleaning lady came into our room to clean, we asked her to clean up a dead one from our floor. She came over, picked it up with her hands, threw it out our front door and then proceeded to give us our bath towels.

The pools were absolutely dirty. One day, we were going through the French Village and my husband noticed a child bleeding and swimming around in the pool. On another occassion, there was feces floating around in the pool.

The food was definitely not five-star food. The only restaurant that was decent (that didn't require reservations and allowed children) was Schooners (a seafood restaurant). However, when we got there, we had to wait one hour for our table and another hour for our food to arrive. So, when you're here with kids, it's a little bit of a long wait for them.

Our vacation ended up costing us $7,600. For that price I was expecting to get a lot more than what I got.

Tip: If you're looking for an umbrella and beach chairs good luck! Make sure someone goes out at 8:00/9:00 a.m. and picks up towels. They should pick them up, look for beach chairs and leave the towels on them. Then, have breakfast and go back to your chairs. Otherwise, it's close to impossible to find chairs.

This was definitely one place I will not be visiting ever again. Other than the beautiful beaches, the service, food and resort were terrible.

4.0 stars This was a beautiful hotel. Visited: November 2003

Once we landed, it took about 10 minutes to get to the hotel. I was very surprised when they offered us cold towels. The weather was hot, so they felt great. I have never gotten that kind of treatment before.

The beaches were beautiful and the pools were great. The scuba diving was wonderful, too. You must do the scuba!

The only complaint that I had was that the buffet restaurants weren't good. The only bad restaurants were Reflections and the Italian restaurant. The other restaurants were great, especially Arizona's. Bobby Dee's was only good for snacks, really.

Overall, we had a wonderful time and we would definitely return.

5.0 stars We were married in Paradise. Visited: August 2003

Anyone considering a beach wedding should get married here. The entire crew - Turkesa, O'Brien, the photograpers, pastor, the reception staff - all made our wedding day a day beyond our wildest dreams.

They focused on every detail. As far as the rest of the trip - it couldn't have been better. The hotel was great, the beach - incredible, and the food choices were great for all ages. The hotel staff was always courteous and helpful.

It was a short drive from the airport where buses were there waiting to take us to the hotel. Check in was quick, and our rooms were ready. The grounds were beautiful.

The kids (ages 19, 18, 17 and 11) all had a great time, too. We all can't wait to go back. Beaches Resorts did it right and this one went beyond! Also, check out the rest of the island - it was breathtaking.

5.0 stars An excellent family vacation resort Visited: August 2003

I went with the kids and grandkids and had a ball. The property was very nice and the staff was very courteous and provided great service.

The rooms were fine, clean and comfortable. The food was very good at all the restaurants we tried. The beach was out of this world and there were plenty of activities to enjoy - sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, etc. All the pools were well maintained and easy to enjoy with swim-up bars.

All in all, we all had a great time and recommend it as a family place for vacation.

2.0 stars Disney of the Caribbean Visited: August 2003

Too noisy, too crowded. You have to fight to get a lounge at beach or pool. Staff are very nice but I felt sorry for them as they all seemed homesick. All the staff comes from some other island. Hotel is clean, decor nice. We had a honeymoon suite, very nice, too bad it was on ground floor and you can't open door as ants, lizards, bees and people are everywhere. Food is good, esp. fish. Beware, your teens will be served liquor even if they don't lie to staff. If you don't have kids, don't go to any beaches resort. If you do, go to Negril-it was much nicer. Of course, if scuba or snorkeling is your thing the beach is incredible, but I would stay elsewhere.

3.0 stars A great place to stay if you have teenagers. Visited: August 2003
Posted by samispa
Be careful when other reviewers say that Beaches is great for "kids". It's good for ages six to ten and great for teens. For kids ages two to five, do a cruise or Atlantis instead.

Our family (two adults and a five-year-old daughter) take a resort or cruise trip about twice a year and we spent seven nights at Beaches Turks and Caicos.

Be very careful booking a Beaches vacation through a travel agent. Ours booked it through a service and when there was an error, I called Beaches directly and they couldn't help me. I had to go through my travel agent. The change request was still not processed and caused us to have to switch rooms midway through the trip. Save yourself some aggravation and book directly with Beaches.

Be careful booking a room in the French Village (FV) if you want your children to be to bed before 11:00 pm. The stage entertainment in the FV was loud and went on until about 11:00 pm. If you book a room in the FV, make sure it's as far away from the stage as possible.

Our daughter has loved the kids clubs at every resort or cruise we have been on except this one.

The Cuda Kids Club was for children up to age five. We are used to having fun scheduled activities in the kids clubs and usually have to drag our daughter out of there.

The scheduled activities in the Cuda Kids Club were not varied enough to hold the children's interest. And, on many occasions, the scheduled activity did not happen at all. One night, the activity sounded very fun and when we picked our daughter up later that evening, she was just watching a movie. The activity was cancelled and we weren't informed until we picked her up. Nobody knew what activity was supposed to be happening when. Three days into the trip, she didn't want to go to Cuda Kids at all.

If you have kids ages six or up, they go to Pirates Island Kids Club. This was run much better, had more up-to-date facilities, better staff, and more interesting activities. We know this because after complaining about Cuda Kids Club to management four days in, they "bent the rules" and let her into Pirates Island.

We talked to many teenagers in the pool who loved the resort and came here every year. There was a lot to do for them and the adults and the kids can have their own vacations and see each other for breakfast and dinner, and do their own thing the rest of the time.

Food was very good, but with the selection of premium liquor and good quality beer, I would have expected better wines. Most of the wine would be considered below the quality of the house wines at most restaurants.

Snorkeling was great. The beach was beautiful and the waves were small.

For the money, I expected more. Next time it's a cruise.

This was by far one of the best vacations ever. We went to the Beaches Turks and Caicos with our two children (ages 18 and 13). They had a blast - my daughter did not want to leave. They met so many friends.

The food was great, entertainment was wonderful, the staff and entertainers were the very best! The resort was beautiful, the pools were immaculate, and the drinks were too good. No words can describe the beaches - they were too beautiful for words.

We are definitely going back, this was truly a five-star vacation.

For $1500 for 5 days, the room should have been spotless. There was mold on the walls and the ac was not not working properly. The room remained muggy and humid our entire stay. Also the room had a funny smell that lingered in our clothes.

2.0 stars Turks is an exquisite and beautiful island, but... Visited: March 2003
Posted by webasaur
Based on a wonderful experience at Beaches Negril, my husband and I packed our two teenagers and tried another one of Beaches resorts. We were attracted to Turks and Caicos as we heard that there was fabulous snorkeling here. Truly, Provo is one of the most beautiful and clean islands with unbelievable snorkeling.

As for Beaches, I must say that I'm hugely disappointed. First there were more small children there running rampant and screaming than at Disney. (Imagine standing online for "It's a Small World", and multiple that times about 12, and that was our average dining experience.)

There were no towel cards when we checked in. The woman behind the counter was surly, and kept changing the rules about how one should get a towel. There were no towels some days.

The food was okay, but hardly the spread we experienced at Negril. Considering that the Turks & Caicos Beaches is significantly more expensive, we expected at least the same quality, which it wasn't. I will say that Sopadilla's (the adults-only place) was fantastic, but unless you make reservations on arrival, you'll wind up with a 5:45 reservation. Kimono's was a huge disappointment.

Upon arrival we made arrangements for a birthday dinner for our youngest. Management told us if we told them what restaurant we wanted to go to, they'd have a cake waiting. We arrived at that restaurant with his new friends, and were informed that the restaurant was closed for a private party. Someone could have let us know before we got to there. Never mind the disappointment on my youngest's face! So, we wound up now waiting 45 minutes at his second choice. Not Cool!

Speaking of closings, there was almost one pool per day being closed for "treatment". The restaurant Iguanas closed three times. One day three pools were closed! And my youngest came back upset because Pirates' Cove closed because a woman cleaned her child's diaper in it! I can't say this is Beaches fault, but I think more guidance over the behavior of their guests might be inline.

We avoided the hoards of screaming kids at the pools by hanging at the beach. Still lots of small kids there, but the sound of the surf drowned them out some. The problem is, if you want a lounge chair, be prepared to get to the beach before 8 in the morning. And if you want a lounge chair with shade, get there by 7! With the sun being so strong here, you are going to want shade!

So that's our story. Not a bad vacation at all, as we truly enjoyed the beach and the snorkeling, however, there are so many other resorts now on the island. I think you could probably find one that's a smaller, less expensive, and more user friendly!

4.0 stars It was the most relaxing, enjoyable vacation ever. Visited: February 2003
Posted by lmorekas
It was a little inconvenient getting there because there were no direct flights from BWI or Dulles, but other than that, it was uneventful.

The transfer was quick, friendly, efficient. We were standing in front of the hotel 20 minutes after we walked out of the airport. Check in was also quick, friendly, efficient - 10 minutes from start to finish.

The room was okay. It was one of my few disappointments. There was nothing wrong with it, but nothing special about it either. It was clean, had all the right amenities (coffee maker, fridge, blow dryer, etc.), and was well maintained throughout our trip.

As far as the decor went, it was pretty basic. We did not pay for a room upgrade on the advice of our travel agent, nor should you. Unless you are going all out (top of the line), there isn't a whole lot of difference.

We stayed in one of the east wing rooms (which we requested for location). I heard that the French Village rooms were a little prettier, but we didn't care. We were never in the room anyway.

The beach was just beautiful! Lounge chairs were plentiful at any time of the day. The water was warm and enjoyable. Nobody tried to sell us a time share (oh happy day!), and kayaks and other water sports were readily available.

The weather was sunny and in the low 80s all day, every day. It was cooler in the evening.

The pools were outstanding. No complaints here about the chairs, either. They were always plentiful and avialable. There was also lots of variety. My son (six) just loved the water slides and the waterfalls. There were also plenty of rafts.

We usually started our day at the pool in the French Village (full sun all day - no shade) and worked our way through the resort ending the day at the beach. Although I would have been perfectly content to just park myself and never move, we moved around a lot at my son's whim....isn't that what vacation's all about?

My husband and I both had great massages at the spa. We didn't try any of the other treatments...we didn't want to lose precious "sun time".

The food was not gourmet, but it was really, really good. It was plentiful, with lots of variety, and there were always many restaurants from which to choose. We really liked Guiseppi's. We went there a couple of times. We were really disappointed with the fancy "white glove" adults-only restaurant. It was not bad, just not what I expected.

The service was always friendly and efficient...frequently outstanding. The grounds were exceptional and beautifully maintained. It was such a pleasure especially when taking late night (yeah 9:00 PM) strolls.

The changing facility ws the best I've ever seen. We had a late flight and it was nice to have this so we could enjoy our last day in the sun.

Leaving was the worst part. We didn't want to come home!

5.0 stars What a fantastic holiday! Visited: January 2003

We spent 10 nights here for our honeymoon with our 17-month-old son and had a fabulous time!

The staff was so accommodating and so polite and friendly that it became infectious amongst the guests. We've made friends for life with two couples.

The variety of restaurants meant we never got bored with the food and always had a choice of buffet or waited service.

Schooners was the best for breakfast - amazing choice. However, if you'd like to eat here in the evening, get there early as 1/2 hour after opening there's always a queue.

The pools were never crowded - with a young child, the children's pool in the French Village was best as it was very shallow.

Our room was a little disappointing at first, but did have a four poster bed.

We used the kids club for five mornings and one night of our stay and the staff was friendly enough.

The beach was superb - white sands and turquoise sea. We hired snorkeling gear and walked 15 minutess down the beach to the left and found amazing coral reefs - a must see.

In summary, we'd love to return - it was well worth the money!

4.0 stars We had a fabulous family vacation. Visited: November 2002

Our family of four (my husband, me, and our two kids - 11 and 9) just returned. We thought it was just the best vacation for kids and adults as well.

We stayed in the French Village. Our room was very nice. It was clean and comfortable. The complex was beautifully landscaped. The kids loved the Kids Club. Although we were a little skeptical at first, we were soon assured we had nothing to worry about. The kids loved it.

The pools were great, but get out there early to reserve a seat. We went out around 8:00 a.m. and put a towel and magazine to reserve our spots. The Iguana Pool was our favorite. There was lots going on there.

The food was good, and there was plenty of it. I especially loved the Cafe De Paris. It was open all day for light snacks. We all loved breakfast the best. The buffets had everything you could want for breakfast.

I would highly recommend this vacation. However, if you want a quiet romantic trip, I would think twice. There were lots of kids. So, if you are not used to that, this is not the place for you. It is truly a family vacation destination.

Three families just returned from a trip to Turks and Caicos. There were 6 children in all, ranging from ages 6 - 10. We all stayed in villas (not in the French section).

Regarding the onsite Kids Club (included): We were all skeptical about putting our kids in the onsite camp, but once we got there and met the staff and drilled them on details about supervision, we were all quite comfortable when it came time to send the kids off. The kids loved the arts and crafts and other activites planned.

Try all the restaurants, but don't expect a good cup of coffee. Late night snacks are a must at the Pirate's Cove Diner.

We weren't sure what was around as far as onsite activities for adults went- we were having too much fun with our kids. There was a casino in another hotel that you can get to by cab, but it was very small and had limited games and hours.

Both the service and security were excellent.

We did the powersailing (not included) which was $50/person. We also did Iguana Island ($188/ family of 4). Both were worth the money. The only other expense we had was purchasing snorkle gear for the kids (you can get it at the resort for free each day but I was too lazy to go to the rental desk each day), and we ran out of sunscreen.

Buy your gifts and t-shirts on the beach from the vendors (it seemed like they were Beaches "approved" vendors, not just anyone selling goods). The gift shop was expensive.

Don't expect to call home too much. There was a $7 connect fee and then a $5.50/minute call fee. Your cells won't work, either.

For older kids, you may want to invest in a pair of walkie talkies. The complex is big.

Also, bring a comfortable pair of sandals to walk in, because you do a lot of that if you travel from pool to pool.

We had to get up eary (8:00 am) to get a primo spot by a pool or on the beach. We would go down and "save" the chairs with a towel or something so we had a place to plop for the day.

It's a family resort so expect alot of kids. It was well worth it!

We went to Turks and Caicos and stayed for 10 days. It was a great time. The grounds were beautiful, the pools were great, and so were the restaurants. The bartenders were the friendliest of all the staff.

The only disappointment was the entertainment. There wasn't any worth seeing. They seemed to cater more to children than adults. That was okay, and we would definitely go back again sometime.

We've been to other Sandals resorts, and they seemed to have more entertainment as well as activities during the days. All in all, we would rate this vacation a 9.

We just returned from our honeymoonat Beaches in Turks and Caicos. It was beautiful there! Hurricane season - fooey!

The beaches, pools, and grounds were unbelievable. The snorkeling was breathtaking! The staff was always helpful. All restaurants were great.

The only thing I would advise is to bring bug spray. The mosquitoes were out in full force at night.

We will be returning on our anniversary! I rate this resort a 9.5 out of 10.

My husband and I were married on the beach at the Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos.

Our wedding was beautiful, and the clear blue ocean was the perfect background for our wedding pictures. They had a professional photography studio on site at the hotel, which was independently operated. They were great although, a little expensive. They also video taped our ceremony.

We stayed in the new French Village and the air conditioners worked great! We checked out some of the older rooms closer to the ocean, and they smelled moldy and damp.

The only pool bar open past 5:00 pm was at the main pool located in the French Village. Schooners was our favorite restaurant, the filet mignon was yummy!

The wedding staff on site was wonderful. They had my dress and my husband's attire pressed for us!

We stayed when the hotel was at 90% capacity, and we didn't have a problem waiting for food or pool chairs. But, we did not allow the little things to upset us. If we couldn't find a pool chair, we went to another location.

The watersports were great, and it was never a problem getting snorkel gear , kayaks or aqua trikes. Our favorite activity was a trampoline they had set up in the ocean. What a great time for kids and adults!

This resort was huge! Be prepared to do a lot of walking to get from your room to the pool and to the beach (unless you stay in a villa right on the ocean - which is expensive).

Let me preface my comments by first saying that I have vacationed extensively throughout the Caribbean over the past 30 years, including stays at four different Sandals resorts and a recent week at the Grand Lido Negril. The Grand Lido was okay, but paled next to Beaches Turks and Caicos in almost every respect.

My family (wife, 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son) and I just returned from a fantastic week at the Beaches TCI resort. We had a first floor room in the French Village (we usually get much better upgrades, but the resort was filled to capacity), which was very nicely decorated, very functional for a family of four and very clean. The housekeeping service was excellent.

We ate at all the restaurants and found each to be at least adequate, some very good and Sapodillas was excellent. The service for the most part was outstanding. The servers were very friendly and accommodating. We had no trouble getting reservations at Sapodillas and Kimonos, and the waits at Schooners, Le Petite Chateau and Arizonas were only a matter of minutes.

The watersports staff was simply outstanding. They made the week great. We took at least two snorkling trips each day and sailed Hobie Cats a couple of times during each day also.

The grounds were very well groomed, as were the pool areas. There were plenty of nightly activities for both adults and teens.

My kids had the time of their lives, participated in numerous activities, met several new friends, and can't wait to return next year.
