5.0 stars We stayed at a wonder in Paradise! Visited: March 2002

The Sands at Grace Bay was one of the most relaxing and - at the same time - eventful places I have ever stayed. I am a mother of three, and I was a little nervous coming because I was worried there would not be enough to do, considering the nearest Chuckie Cheese was islands away. I proved myself wrong.

The staff was very friendly and the maid service was excellent. The water was crystal clear and they had a great beach for walking.

The restaurant, Hemmingways, was good food at decent prices. The service was also quite fast.

I strongly recommend this resort to families! They will be sure to have a great time.

4.0 stars Nice place, slightly expensive. Visited: December 2001

The Sands is a classy place, though a bit expensive, but probably worth it.

We had an oceanfront place, which is nice. The staff is friendly and fairly responsive (for island standards). The restaurant, Hemingway's, is nice, reasonable priced, and extremely convenient with an awesome view. After eating at several other restaurants, we felt Hemingway's was the best bet!

The multiple pools, jacuzzi and beachfront amenities are all good. The screened-in porches will keep the mosquitoes out. The exercise room has a universal machine, 2 treadmills and 2 steppers; however, it is poorly located underground, which gives it a claustrophobic feel and to make things worst, it was hot inside.

The oceanfront rooms are probably not worth the extra money, unless you are planning on spending a lot of time indoors looking at the view.

Overall, I definitely recommend this place.

4.0 stars One of the best vacations we've had. Visited: August 2001

The ocean is like standing in a clear pool with a sandy bottom. The sand is amazing, you walk on it and it's not hot on your feet. There are three pools; two of them connected with a canal that’s fun to float thru.

Hemmingway’s is a great place to eat. There is a deck steps from the beach where you can eat and drink while watching the sun go down. The condos are spacious and comfortable with great views of the turquoise ocean. The staff was always friendly and helpful. One week wasn’t long enough!

5.0 stars Pristine, beautiful beaches, and first-class accommodations! Visited: June 2001
Posted by glisky

It's always hard to tell whether a vacation will live up to the promises and pretty pictures in brochures, but our stay at The Sands did that and then some!

The resort is beautifully landscaped, new, clean, and quiet. The beach is perfect with white sand, very few people, and crystal-clear water in a million shades of blue.

Hemmingway's is an excellent place to eat, but we found restaurants at the nearby resorts to be great, too. (So even though you'll love the first one you try, make sure that you try them all!)

The resort will shuttle you just about anywhere you need to go that's not within walking distance (although everything you really need is). Free snorkeling equipment, the use of Hobie cats and bicycles are provided, and they will also schedule tours for you. Be sure to snorkel for sand dollars (they're everywhere). Don't miss checking out the reef that's a short walk down the beach. Try to squeeze in a boat trip to the other Caicos Islands (the private beach was especially nice).

Get ready for picture-perfect sunsets, and (my favorite) make sure you spend time on the beach at night. You'll never see so many stars in the sky and it's so peaceful you'll know why you came.

The Sands at Grace Bay is the perfect place for romance, families, or to get away from it all...and you'll feel like you should have paid a lot more for how first-class it feels! We make a point of going somewhere different every year, but have already said that we're going to have to make an exception and come back to The Sands.

5.0 stars Intimate and gorgeous--a perfect honeymoon! Visited: May 2001
Posted by Antimatter
We had an absolutely awesome eleven days in Turks and Caicos. The Sands is a beautiful piece of property on the best beach I've ever seen. Everyone working at this property was very kind and most accommodating; from the bell captain when we checked in right down to our last sunset drink served by the bartender at Hemingways.

We felt very safe on this island. We were able to walk and bike around to the nearby stores without being hassled by solicitors (like in Jamaica). We were also able to walk down the beach at night and sit and look at the stars feeling very safe.

We went with a One-Bedroom Oceanview since it was our honeymoon and were thrilled to see a spectacular direct view of the ocean and beach like we've only dreamed of. We could even see the ocean from our kitchen and hear the ocean from our bedroom! We were looking for (and found) a quiet, relaxing and sunny 'getaway island'.

Went Deep Sea Fishing and on a Beach Cruise through Annie at the tour desk and had a great time. We bought groceries and ate most of our breakfast and lunch meals in our suite saving us some money.

We ate dinner at several restaurants including, Hemingway’s, Barefoot Cafe, Bay Bistro, and The Terrace just to name a few. Every one of them had excellent food and we were never disappointed.

We walked up and down the beach and saw other properties. We both highly recommend Sands at Grace Bay and will definitely stay there again.

5.0 stars Excellent rooms, service and location Visited: March 2001

Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The one-bedroom suite that we had was quite large and felt very spacious, especially with two little kids. The resort was very kid friendly and outgoing with our children. Everyone was very nice. We loved our room. The furnishings were very nice. We would come here again!

5.0 stars Magnificent! Visited: February 2001

The Sands is magnificent. I have traveled all over the world and it ranks right up there with the best! You can't beat the service; the staff was very efficient and always willing to help. As a matter of fact, I was going snorkeling one day and realized that I had left my contact lens solution home. I didn't have time to go to the market before the bus picked us up, so the manager sent one of the staff members to her house to get her solution, which she graciously shared with me.

The accommodations were just as great. We had a One-Bedroom Unit, which was very large and beautifully furnished. The patio was screened so we had the opportunity to really enjoy the night air. We even left the doors open and slept to the sound of the ocean. The unit had every amenity you would need. There was no better view than the one from our Oceanside Room; it was worth the extra bucks.

The beach was beautiful and was just a short walk from one of the best snorkeling sites, the White House Reef. The reef was right off of the beach. The Sands was also in walking distance from the casino.

The Hemingway was a very nice restaurant by the sea, where one can enjoy a superb meal, beautiful scenery by day, and listen to the sound of the ocean by night. We had the chance to sample breakfast, lunch and dinner there, and the food was fab!

This is a great place, and I would definitely go back again and again!

5.0 stars Awesome hotel and a beautiful beach! Visited: November 2000

We just got back from the Sands at Grace Bay. It was a beautiful resort! The rooms are new and very clean. We had a one-bedroom suite and there was a ton of room. Our room even had a washer and dryer in it. The staff was also very helpful.

Grace Bay was beautiful. The water is so blue and snorkeling at the White House Reef was awesome—we even saw two turtles! Hemingways had very good food. We stocked up at the local supermarket so we also ate in a lot. There are a few restaurants that you can walk to from the Sands: Latitudes was okay; Calico Jacks, a pub with a bar, was very good; and we heard that Bella Luna, serving Italian food was excellent. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. This resort was awesome!

4.0 stars Excellent resort with friendly staff and great accommodations Visited: October 2000

I just returned from my first trip to TCI and was very impressed with The Sands at Grace Bay Resort. Of all my travels, the accommodations were one of the nicest that I have stayed in.

The grounds were well maintained and beautifully landscaped. Our room (studio gardenview) was small as expected, but was very clean and had everything that we needed - a microwave, toaster, mini refrigerator and utensils. This made having breakfast in the room very convenient! The decor was very tasteful and new. My only complaint about the room was that the mattress was a little soft and can be a bit painful for a sensitive back.

The food at the resort restaurant, Hemingway's, was very tasty and the location can't be beat - its right on the beach and perfect for watching the sun set. Be sure to try the Conch fingers and lobster (when in season). The prices were reasonable and we ate several of our meals here.
The staff were all very friendly. Annie at the Tour Desk was very helpful in making recommendations and arrangements for snorkeling and sailboat trips. The front desk staff were great at making suggestions for dinner spots and giving directions. We also made good use of the free snorkel gear that the Sands had for its guests.

Although there was quite a bit of construction going on, the resort was very peaceful. The beach was extremely private, but I must warn you that the beach chairs were not very comfortable and painful if you sat too long. I was suprised that such a nice resort would have such cheap beach chairs. The chairs around the pool were fortunately much better and had cushions.

I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to TCI!

5.0 stars A beautiful resort, beach and friendly staff. Visited: May 2000

This resort is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a Gardenview
Room. The rooms are neatly furnished and have a screened in porch, a kitchenette, washer
and dryer, a safe, and a little sitting area. They offer snorkeling, hobbie boat sailing and
sea kayaking--all for free! There isn't much to see at their beach, but a short walk down
the beach there is really good snorkeling. There is a really cool river-type of pool that
winds all around the main pool and garden.

For divers I recommend Caicos Adventures. They are the only dive group that goes to
West Caicos everyday, where there is the best diving in Turks and Caicos. It’s farther
away from where everybody else goes, which means a bit of a boat ride, but it is beautiful
and worth it.

5.0 stars A classy, clean, top-of-the-line resort Visited: April 2000

My wife and I honeymooned at Sands. It is the perfect resort for honeymooners as well as anyone else. We found it romantic, clean, sophisticated and everyone was friendly.

The beach is amazing and pristine, which is rare in this day and age. Boat tours, snorkeling and other activities are all offered at the resort.

We loved it and are going back soon! Highly recommended.

4.0 stars Sound Choice: Perfect Beach, Great Location, Nice Facility Visited: August 1999
Posted by rotofury
I stayed at the Sands last year, after checking into two other hotels on the island. We spent the remainder of our trip at the Sands, and really wanted to extend our stay.

The resort was clean and well maintained, the staff were very nice (I snuck out for early morning smokes with the head facilities guy ... he liked the American cigarettes).

The surfside restaurant, Hemmingways, was perfect for lunch, although it closed too early for late night wine by the surf.

If you do go to Turks, check out the Tiki Hut (a bar that looks exactly like it sounds like it would) and have a nice dinner at the Anaconona restaurant at (I believe) the Grace Bay Club.

4.0 stars Want to really relax in between adventures? Visited: December 1969
Posted by thewhitetower
I'm 27 and female. I'd never been out of the country before. Last February I got tired of waiting for the perfect traveling companion and decided to go it alone! (Gulp.) I didn't want to stay at a swinging singles resort or at party central. I'd rather go to the party than live in the middle of it. I was looking for a safe, clean, beautiful, relaxing and quiet place to stay. The Sands was that place. In fact, the only reason I didn't give it five stars was because it was my first time out of the country. I've got to have some room to go up. My room was the perfect size for one person. I didn't feel squished at all and housekeeping was wonderful. I am always concerned about safety, but I felt safe in my third-floor room. Although the resort is very quiet, the staff keeps you up to date on what's going on elsewhere. The owner of Hemingways (who you will love) can tell you what's going on throughout the island. The Sands made a perfect home base for my adventures (I said I was single, not boring), which were easily arranged due to the wonderful staff and literature. There's lots of information available on tours, diving, etc. The resort is right on the beach and there's always a very sweet staff person to take care of you in the daytime. The food and service at Hemingways is magnificent. Shall I tell you again how wonderful the owner is? The Sands is perfect for honeymooners, singles, safety conscious persons, families or a group of friends who want to get together to take a trip. A lot of resorts are right on the beach and a barefoot saunter gave me a quick read on them. I felt very "Goldilocks-ian." The Sands was definitely just right.
