This is the most amazing facility. They have beach chairs set out for all the cruise passengers, and the shops are all friendly. I bought an art piece from the shop in the facility for half of what it would have cost in the states. Don't forget Margaritaville! |

If you prefer all-inclusive resorts, U.S. chain stores, rowdy nightclubs, lots of shopping, and a busy beach scene, go to Providenciales. If you are looking for your own private getaway, where often you have the beach to yourself, try Grand Turk. It's rustic, and quite undeveloped (with the exception of the cruise terminal at one end of the island). I've stayed at Osprey Beach Hotel twice. It's a true beachfront hotel, and their open air restaurant will let you see a perfect sunset view every evening. Grand Turk being the scuba diving destination that it is, the dive boats pick you up right in front of the hotel. Nice. The hotel restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily, and other nearby restaurants serve breakfast. My room had a full kitchen, so I bought groceries at Cee's grocery, which was within walking distance. It appears that they must get most of their food from Costco or Sam's Club, as many of the name brands were familiar to me. The prices were a little more expensive than in the states, but it makes sense when you realize that everything has to be shipped or flown in to the island. Twice a week there is a BBQ night at Osprey Beach Hotel and the whole island seems to turn out for it. It's great food, and best of all is the music from the High Tide Band (I liked the saw player). Overall, this is a nice place to stay, not too fancy, with friendly staff and guests. Nothing happens in a hurry, and that seems just right for a Caribbean vacation, doesn't it? |

The food here is excellent. Although, it is a little overpriced. Also, a down side is that smokers seem to have priority over non-smokers. There was a group of customers who were always here (including the owners) that were heavy smokers. I thought the smoke smell ruined the dining experience. |

This was my second time at White Sands, and I still love this place. However, I was the only guest, so they closed the restaurant due to labor problems. As a result, I was really stuck for meals. In addition, the pool was not operational. I would go back provided these problems are fixed, though. |

The Turks Head Hotel provided the "base of operations" for one of the most memorable dive trips my wife and I have ever experienced. We found the place utterly charming. If you look at the photo on this page, our room was the balcony-room on the right; the best room in the place. The front courtyard was always covered in deep shade from the very old and stately trees, providing the perfect setting for reading the novels we brought while sipping on some of the best pina coladas in the Caribbean. The roof-top terrace was a great place to watch the sunset each evening. The Turks Head Hotel is just a few steps away from Oasis Divers; they provided a wonderful week of diving. Also, just steps away is a beachfront restaurant called The Water’s Edge, which serves great food and has a beautiful view. There's not much to do on Grand Turk besides eat, sleep and dive, which is just what we were looking for—good food, an elegant place to stay and world-class diving. |
