I went to St. Thomas for my birthday, and had the time of my life.
Not only was the Green Iguana the best hotel I have ever stayed at, the managers, Susie and Bill made me feel like family.
I will definitely stay here again when I return to the islands.

The managers, Susie and Bill, are the most accommodating hosts we have ever encountered. The hotel is clean and - thanks to these managers - well cared for.
Our stay on the island would not have been as much fun if not for these well informed island hosts. Centrally located, it is five minutes from town central, ten minutes from Hull and Magens Bay, and 15 minutes from the first tee at Mahogany Run Golf Club.

We were here for ten days or so.
Not only was the view great from our room, but they let us borrow all kinds of supplies which saved us a ton of money.
We had a blast. We went snorkeling and were able to pack a lunch (they lent us a cooler), and our room was air conditioned and clean. I miss Suzie and Bill, and I want to go back! |

Our recent stay at the Green Iguana was better than being at home because someone else was taking care of us so we could go out and have fun.
The room was very clean and recently updated. The hosts, Bill and Susie (and their staff) were very professional and accommodating. The hotel was close to town, with great restaurants and shopping available. It was also a short drive to Magens Bay-the most beautiful beach we have ever seen.
We would definitely stay here again. |

This is a little gem of an inn off the beaten path. Visited: August 2009 |

This is a clean and well appointed inn. It is quiet, peaceful, and within a five-minute walk from the center of Charlotte Amalie Harbor.
Here you'll find great balcony views, and Bill and Susie are wonderful and
helpful hosts. They are super people.
Green Iguana Hotel offers lots of bang for the buck. I wish all innkeepers paid as much attention to detail and were as conscientious as the McCarthys.

There are iguanas galore. Visited: June 2009 |

The managers are the most hospitable you will ever find. The location is right in the middle of everywhere, and the rooms are clean. There were iguanas everywhere, but none were too scary.
Our stay was truly enjoyable and, yes, we will be back. |

We (two couples) spent two nights following a week sailing in the BVI.
The Green Iguana was just what we were looking for - clean, pleasant, spacious, well located and friendly.
We would certainly stay here again. |

Green Iguana has all the comforts of home and greats hosts. Visited: May 2009 |

Susie and Bill McCarthy are probably the most accommodating hosts we have ever known.
Our room was lovely with a view of Charlotte Amalie Harbor. The 99 (really 102) steps were enough exercise to allow enjoyment of the good food downtown. It was a great vacation.
If you don't have a car at your disposal, try to get a handle on cab rates per person before you get to St. Thomas. |

Susie and Bill are the most friendly, helpful, and thoughtful hotel operators I've ever come across.
My top floor room was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed and a nice view. The location was convenient for walking to and from town via the 99 steps, so you're not solely dependent on cabs as you would be, for example, at the
Mafolie.
This is a value hotel, not the Ritz, so I give it four stars. Any expensive hotel
would benefit, however, from being managed by wonderful people like Bill and Susie.

This is the cleanest place in town! Visited: May 2009 |

Although our stay was only one short night, we really enjoyed the comfortable accommodations.
Having traveled in the Caribbean for many years, this is one of the cleanest small hotels we've ever encountered. Thanks to the resident managers for the ice bag at 11 p.m. for a twisted knee - I really appreciated the TLC.
I couldn't manage the 99 steps as a result, but taxi to town was very easy. |

We enjoyed our stay at The Green Iguana. It had the most beautiful view of the habour and town.
The host family was very helpful and friendly. Who knows? Maybe we will come back some time in the future. |

We had a great experience at the hotel, especially with our hosts John and Gwen.
We had packages shipped to the hotel for our sailing trip, and John actually went to the post office to pick them up before we got there, helping make our trip easy and fun.
The rooms are basic, but have great views! |

The Green Iguana was a small guest house on the top of a historic hill with Blackbeard's Tower. The rooms were good sized with nice linens, bathroom, and a small kitchenette.
There was a very sweet outdoor seating area in the garden. The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
To reach the downtown shopping/restaurant area required the 99 steps others have mentioned. We stayed here on our way to and from St. John by ferry. For the fit, it is possible to tote a carry-on size suitcase down the steps to the ferry, and a big effort to carry it up. We did both.
There were some warnings about walking around the vicinity at night, but our party of four walked back from dinner around 9 pm without feeling scared. Although I thought it would be fun to be in the middle of town, the town was not a great stroll-around tourist place at night, so I did wonder whether a beach front hotel at the other ends of town might have been a better choice.
You'll end up taking taxis no matter what (which charge per person and it adds up). One more thing--dogs abound in town. If you don't crank up the AC, you'll want ear plugs.
Oh, and there were great views from the rooms over the town and and out to the harbor. |

It was a pleasure to stay at the Green Iguana. We were in St. Thomas for our son's wedding. We even brought his grandmother who is up in age, but did not experience any difficulties.
The beds were great, and we slept well.
The only thing I can complain about is that we didn't get to know the hosts more. We hope to get to St. Thomas again. I highly recommend The Green Iguana! |

We stayed at the Green Iguana for four nights, and it was very pleasant. The room had a real Caribbean feel to it, and the view from the room to Charlotte Amalie was fantastic.
We found it quite expensive to eat out, so we bought some stuff from the supermarket and ate simply in the room most of the time. You have to take a taxi to go to the market, otherwise it is a 25-minute walk or so.
The managers, Gwen and John, were very friendly and welcomed us with a strong banana daiquiri that put us in a comfortable sleep for 30 minutes after our flight.
We found our stay on the island fantastic. St. Thomas is fabulous, and sweet as a paradise as well.
One detail that might come useful - I used my ear plugs as you could hear some noise from the outside. I prefer silence, but my boyfriend didn't find it to be a problem.
If you need flexible service and a nice place, I would definitely recommend coming here.

My wife and I stayed at the Green Iguana for a night before our cruise. The managers, Gwen and John, were very nice and extremely helpful.
The rooms were a good size, clean, and well maintained. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in St. Thomas.
Beware, if you are not in good shape and don't hire a car, the walk up and down the stairs will not be fun. If you like exercise, walking, hiking, etc. then it is great, and the views are excellent.

We stayed at the Green Iguana for a couple days before and after our boat charter out of St. Thomas.
This hotel has a great location high above Charlotte Amalie, so long as you don't mind a beautiful walk down a hill and the 99 steps.
We really enjoyed being above the fray of the city, but close enough to enjoy dinner out before the short walk back up the hill. I never felt unsafe in the area, but we also made sure that no one ever walked alone.
The rooms are clean and well-maintained with small refrigerators and coffee pots. They were not elaborate, but then, you don't go on vacation to spend time in a hotel room.
I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Charlotte Amalie who doesn't mind walking everywhere. |

Personal service from the managers was helpful.
We had a great view of the bay from our balcony. It was also easy walking to town attractions, but we did not feel comfortable walking after dark.
Finally, Blackbeard's Castle next door with use of the pool was nice! |
