We (2 couples) spent 2 nights following a week sailing in the BVI. The Green Iguana was just what we were looking for - clean, pleasant, spacious, well located and friendly. We would certainly stay there again. |

All the comforts of home; greats hosts Visited: May 2009 |

Susie and Bill McCarthy were the most accomodating hosts we have ever met. Our room was lovely with great views of Charlotte Amalie Harbor.
The 99 (really 102) steps were enough exercise for us to enjoy the good food downtown. We had a great vacation with 2 stays at the Green Iguana before and after our sailing trip to BVI.
Before you arrive in St. Thomas if you don't have your own vehicle, familiarize yourself with cab rates per person and the economical $2.00 public transportation from downtown. |

If you don't have a car at your disposal, try to get a handle on cab rates per person before you get to St. Thomas. |

Great Management! Visited: May 2009 |

Susie and Bill are the most friendly, helpful,
and thoughtful hotel operators I've ever come
across.
My top floor room was clean and quiet with a
comfortable bed and a nice view. The location
is convenient for walking to and from town via the 99 steps, so you're not solely dependent on cabs as you would be, for example, at the
Mafolie. This is a value hotel, not the Ritz,
so I give it 4 stars. Any expensive hotel
would benefit, however, from being managed by
wonderful people like Bill and Susie.

Cleanest place in town! Visited: May 2009 |

Although our stay was only one short night, we really enjoyed the comfortable accommodations. Having traveled in the Caribbean for many years, this is one of the cleanest small hotels we've ever encountered. Thanks to the resident managers for the ice bag at 11 p.m. for a twisted knee - I really appreciated the TLC. Couldn't manage the 99 steps as a result but taxi to town was very easy. |

We enjoyed our stay at The Green Iguana. It had the most beautiful view of the habour and town.
The host family was very helpful and friendly. Who knows? Maybe we will come back some time in the future. |

We had a great experience at the hotel, especially with our hosts John and Gwen.
We had packages shipped to the hotel for our sailing trip, and John actually went to the post office to pick them up before we got there, helping make our trip easy and fun.
The rooms are basic, but have great views! |

The Green Iguana was a small guest house on the top of a historic hill with Blackbeard's Tower. The rooms were good sized with nice linens, bathroom, and a small kitchenette.
There was a very sweet outdoor seating area in the garden. The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
To reach the downtown shopping/restaurant area required the 99 steps others have mentioned. We stayed here on our way to and from St. John by ferry. For the fit, it is possible to tote a carry-on size suitcase down the steps to the ferry, and a big effort to carry it up. We did both.
There were some warnings about walking around the vicinity at night, but our party of four walked back from dinner around 9 pm without feeling scared. Although I thought it would be fun to be in the middle of town, the town was not a great stroll-around tourist place at night, so I did wonder whether a beach front hotel at the other ends of town might have been a better choice.
You'll end up taking taxis no matter what (which charge per person and it adds up). One more thing--dogs abound in town. If you don't crank up the AC, you'll want ear plugs.
Oh, and there were great views from the rooms over the town and and out to the harbor. |

It was a pleasure to stay at the Green Iguana. We were in St. Thomas for our son's wedding. We even brought his grandmother who is up in age, but did not experience any difficulties.
The beds were great, and we slept well.
The only thing I can complain about is that we didn't get to know the hosts more. We hope to get to St. Thomas again. I highly recommend The Green Iguana! |

We stayed at the Green Iguana for four nights, and it was very pleasant. The room had a real Caribbean feel to it, and the view from the room to Charlotte Amalie was fantastic.
We found it quite expensive to eat out, so we bought some stuff from the supermarket and ate simply in the room most of the time. You have to take a taxi to go to the market, otherwise it is a 25-minute walk or so.
The managers, Gwen and John, were very friendly and welcomed us with a strong banana daiquiri that put us in a comfortable sleep for 30 minutes after our flight.
We found our stay on the island fantastic. St. Thomas is fabulous, and sweet as a paradise as well.
One detail that might come useful - I used my ear plugs as you could hear some noise from the outside. I prefer silence, but my boyfriend didn't find it to be a problem.
If you need flexible service and a nice place, I would definitely recommend coming here.

My wife and I stayed at the Green Iguana for a night before our cruise. The managers, Gwen and John, were very nice and extremely helpful.
The rooms were a good size, clean, and well maintained. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in St. Thomas.
Beware, if you are not in good shape and don't hire a car, the walk up and down the stairs will not be fun. If you like exercise, walking, hiking, etc. then it is great, and the views are excellent.

We stayed at the Green Iguana for a couple days before and after our boat charter out of St. Thomas.
This hotel has a great location high above Charlotte Amalie, so long as you don't mind a beautiful walk down a hill and the 99 steps.
We really enjoyed being above the fray of the city, but close enough to enjoy dinner out before the short walk back up the hill. I never felt unsafe in the area, but we also made sure that no one ever walked alone.
The rooms are clean and well-maintained with small refrigerators and coffee pots. They were not elaborate, but then, you don't go on vacation to spend time in a hotel room.
I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Charlotte Amalie who doesn't mind walking everywhere. |

Personal service from the managers was helpful.
We had a great view of the bay from our balcony. It was also easy walking to town attractions, but we did not feel comfortable walking after dark.
Finally, Blackbeard's Castle next door with use of the pool was nice! |

My husband and I were fortunate enough to experience the beauty of The Green Iguana and the attentive, caring and friendly managers, Gwen and John.
We were staying on the island of St. John for a week prior, and reserved a room for one night at The Green Iguana. I wish it could've been a full week! At least we had the opportunity to spend one night.
On our next trip to the USVI, we'll definitely take advantage of all that St. Thomas has to offer and do so in the tranquil surroundings of The Green Iguana! |

My fiance and I stayed here for two days, and had a great time.
The owners, John and Gwen, were very helpful and friendly. The location was good if you want to walk around the town. However, be aware that St. Thomas itself, in parts, has crime.
That said, we would definitely stay here again the next time we are in St. Thomas. |

The Green Iguana was a great value, providing a very clean room and nice room at a reasonable price.
Our room also had a very nice view of the harbor area. The only problem, as mentioned on some other reviews, was the barking dog who would win awards for persistence. |

This place was a great value for the money spent. It was delightfully tropical, with bananas growing in the courtyard. It was located right next to Blackbeard's Castle, and had ready access to a great walking tour.
The view from our balcony was the right side of the harbor. Its location was a short walk from downtown. In addition, the hosts were delightful and very accommodating. |

I will definitely recommend this place to friends going to St. Thomas. |
