It is still the best. Visited: April 2007

We visit St. John every year. We have stayed at Caneel Bay, the Westin, Estate Lindholm, Gallows Point... and others.

Over the past few years, we've settled in at Gallows Point. It's the most convenient to town, has one of the best restaurants, very friendly staff, and nice pool area.

If you have kids who need entertainment or you plan to stay put with few excursions, go to the Westin. If you like day trips, good selection of restaurants without the hassle of parking, it's Gallows Point.

If you want the most of your privacy, Estate Lindholm.

All four resorts have great accommodations. If you downgrade from these four, your vacation will be equally less pleasant. At least that's been our experience.

My girlfriend and I just returned from a week-long vacation at Gallows Point. We both have nothing but wonderful things to say about both St. John and Gallows.

Our luggage did not make our connecting flight from San Juan, PR, so we had to wait at the airport for an extra three hours for our bag to arrive. We hopped in a cab from Charlotte Amelie airport to the ferry at Red Hook. This ferry only took about 20 minutes to reach St. John, not the 45 that the hotel, and many travel sites suggested. We docked at around 7:30 pm.

It turned out that the bellman, Mackenzie, had been patiently waiting for us since our scheduled arrival time of 4:15 pm. We couldn’t believe that he was waiting all this time with absolutely no knowledge of just how late we would arrive.

Our room, 1A, was an ocean lower, and had an amazing view of St. Thomas, and the ocean as well. We would wake up around 7:00 am just to open the 8’ living room doors so we could sleep another two hours listening to the waves.

We regularly walked the 100 yards down the road to the Beach Bar for drinks and small meals on the water. Gallows’ proximity to the town of Cruz Bay (a four-minute walk) was a major plus. We rented a Jeep to get to the farther beaches, but the snorkeling at Gallows was excellent as well.

The resort did not have a beach that many people would be used to. They had a walkway that will deposit you into a couple feet of water in their reef. They had a small strip of sand that was set up above the rocky shore. A short walk/hike down the Lind Point Trail will put you out onto a deserted beach at Solomon Bay / Honeymoon Beach. It was well worth it.

In closing, Gallows can’t be beat, and we are already planning our next stay here!

It was absolutely wonderful! Visited: September 2006

Our stay at Gallows Point was absolutely wonderful. Four of us stayed for a week and we were totally enthralled by the serenity and the views.

We stayed in Room 11A. It was a Harborview lower room, and as it was one of the lower rates we were not sure what to expect. We had the best of both worlds-we were able to watch the ferries come and go as we sat on the deck, and we also had a beautiful ocean view, especially beautiful in the evening.

The grounds were very well kept, and the buildings were very tasteful. The staff was very professional, courteous and friendly.

The pool was wonderful. It was not large, but warm and clean, and it overlooked the ocean - how perfect. Between the ocean and the pool I swam more in one week than I have in the last ten years.

The beaches on St. John were pristene, the water was clear, clean and full of beautiful marine creatures. We snorkeled, and it was a wonderful first-time experience. We suggest you stop on your way to the beach at The Grotto in Mongoose Junction and pick up some chicken salad and fresh hearty bread for an excellent beach lunch.

The resort did not have a good beach -only a few feet that went into a rocky cove. However, they had fantastic snorkeling - so it was a good trade off.

Gallows Point was great in many ways. We always had fresh dry towels; we used their beach chairs and coolers for our beach trips; the store was very convienient - we would go and grab something quick instead of going out when we felt like staying in the pool. The selection was not extensive, but we certainly were able to find something to sate our appetite for any mealtime.

The restaurant was closed for off season, so we were not able to eat at ZoZo's - which was highly recommended to us. We ate in town at Ten Tables (excellent food and service) and the Beach Bar (great food and fun atmosphere). We enjoyed the shopping at Mongoose Junction and in downtown Cruz Bay (both were walking distance).

For serious shopping take a day trip to St Thomas - very fun. There were rows and rows of wonderful shops in an old mill. The only negative - way to many jewelry stores and vendors trying to coaxe you in to their shops.

We visited in September, so many restaurants were closed for the off season. There were still enough open to have choices, and the benefit was we had no crowds or lines to deal with.

Next time we will take advantage of the island excursions available at the front store. We did not realize all the things they could arrange for us right there.

St. John is a magical place - and Gallows Point was a perfect place to enjoy it in.

This was a perfect St. John stay! Visited: July 2006

Gallow's Point was the perfect place to stay while on St. John. The grounds were beautiful, and the ocean or bay views from all of the condos were unbelievable.

The staff was very pleasant and eager to please. Crystal, at the front office, was absolutely wonderful, and went out of her way to assure guests were happy.

The units are individually owned, so they can vary in style. However, all are spacious and have full kitchens. Our bed was extremely comfortable - and I'm picky about that! The large walk-in shower was wonderful after the beach.

There was also a great attention to detail that we appreciated... a rack for drying wet things, an in-room safe, easily exchanged beach towels when coming and going, a complimentary bottle of rum, and shampoo and soaps in a plentiful supply.

We will definitely return to Gallow's Point on our next trip to St. John. The sunsets from our balcony were amazing!

This resort was definitely worthwhile! From the friendly staff to the beautiful interior and exterior of the place, it was extremely beautiful.

I stayed in room 6D, and the view from the balcony was to die for (especially when the sun was setting).

The location of the hotel was convenient because it was very close to Cruz Bay, which was where pretty much everything was located in St. John.

If you have the opportunity to visit STJ, I recommend Gallows Point Resort. If you can bring your partner, it's a great place to get some "R and R". Take it from me, I'm picky and I loved it. I plan to go back again one day!

We just kicked back at Gallows Point Resort. Visited: March 2006

When my wife and I looked for a relaxing vacation, this was our first choice. We have come here off and on for about 15 years, and enjoy it each time.

A lot depends on the weather. If you enjoy snorkeling, wind and clouds will be a problem. One solution is to sit on your balcony and just watch the sky (with a drink in hand). The sunsets over Pillsbury Sound from Gallows Point are fantastic!

Over time, you get to know the good places to eat in Cruz Bay (a short walk away). Whether you want to rent a car is your choice - we found that taxis could take us where we wanted to go. The roads are steep and scary (in my humble opinion)!

By the way, the "fancy" restaurant on the island, Chateau Bourdoux, is vastly overrated. Stay in town and go to the Lime Inn or Morgans Mango.

Anyway, this is a place for relaxing and enjoying. Type A personalities on a mission to see the world will have a problem!

This was a great place - we will be back! Visited: April 2005

Gallows Point was beautiful, with great flower gardens, and a beautiful ocean right off our porch. It was quiet (a little noise from ZOZO's, but none after 10:00 pm). We loved the location and the service. There was also great snorkeling off their ocean ladder.

Even though it was a long haul from St. Thomas airport (then a taxi and boat to get there), we are already planning our next trip back. The people on St. John were all friendly, happy and helpful. Also, I have always loved St. John, and Gallows Point complements its beauty.

Gallows Point offers great rooms, a great location, and a great view! Visited: April 2005

This was our first trip to St. John. We looked at many different places to stay, and we are really glad we chose Gallows Point.

After seeing the other options upon arrival, we decided that we will always return to Gallows! The location was wonderful, and it was an easy walk to Cruz Bay.

The staff was also very helpful. They always had a taxi waiting for us, or were willing to help with setting up a day trip. Definitely try out renting a dingy for the afternoon!

We also love to scuba dive and snorkel. The snorkeling in front of Gallows Point was some of the best on the island (and we went everywhere)! We had an easy taxi ride each morning to the dive shop (Cruz Bay Watersports).

We can't wait until we get to return.

We loved Gallows Point. Visited: February 2005

We just returned from a week at Gallows Point and had a wonderful vacation. We were in an oceanview loft unit (2D), with a postcard view of the ocean, St Thomas in the distance and sailboats going by.

It was a very quiet location; the only sounds we heard at night were the lap of the waves (Zozo's bar closed down at 11:00 pm).

Our condo was well equipped and very clean (no bugs of any kind). We enjoyed walking around the well-kept grounds, admiring the vegetation, and looking for the resident iguanas.

The units at Gallows Point were expensive. But we checked out other options while we were on St. John, and we found that we really couldn't beat the great accommodations at Gallows and the very convenient location.

The store right on the property carried most of the groceries we needed - and at competetive prices. We walked into Cruz Bay a couple times a day. The free shuttle to and from the ferry dock was a great service. We also rented a jeep for three days and had a good time exploring the island. There were so many beautiful beaches.

While we were here, the surf was too high on the north shore, so the snorkelling was better at Little Lameshur. St John was a beautiful, peaceful island, and Gallows Point made our stay memorable. We hope to go back.

A stay at Gallows Point Resort is total relaxation. Visited: January 2004

Gallows Point Resort was the perfect spot. The resort was ultra clean, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was also close to Cruz Bay for walking to dinners/shopping. You could also walk to the ferry.

We rented a car for four days to explore the island. They had world class beaches. The pool at Gallows was not huge, but more than adequate. We very rarely saw anyone there.

ZoZo's restaurant at Gallows was exceptional. Overall, it was quiet, clean, friendly and ideally located. We can't wait to go back.

It would be great if this hotel had a beach. Other than that, it was a real nice property. The rooms were spacious with a kitchen, sitting room and separate bedroom. It was within easy walking distance to the harbor and junction. The only bad thing about the walk was having to pass a cemetary.

We went to Gallows Point for our honeymoon and fell in love with the place. We had the upper room which was nice because we had a loft with the extra living room downstairs with the beautiful view. It was wonderful to leave the doors open to get the sea breeze. We loved the location and view that we had! Overall, I would recommend Gallows over and over and can't wait to return!

Nothing compares to Gallows Point. Visited: April 2002
Posted by ckm1223
My husband and I have just returned from our sixth stay at Gallows Point and it was better than ever - freshly painted and lushly landscaped.

We have previously stayed in ocean loft suites, but were pleasantly surprised at how much we loved being at ground level when we were unable to book a loft for a last-minute getaway.

We have tried other islands and have finally decided that St. John and Gallows Point gave us everything we wanted in a Caribbean vacation.

We have always traveled to St. John in April and have never experienced the mosquitos and noseeums mentioned in other reviews. Perhaps it is related to the time of year that one travels or, more likely to the rainfall or lack of it.

The atmosphere, the comfortable suites and the easy access to some of the best beaches, restaurants and shops in the islands made Gallows Point a perfect spot for independent travelers who don't like the all-inclusive, full-scale resort experience.

We can't wait until next time!

We already booked for next Thanksgiving. Visited: November 2001
Posted by pjslf
My husband saw an ad for Gallows Point in an island magazine. We travel to the Caribbean fairly often, but have never had the opportunity to visit St. John. So, we said "why not?", and booked eight nights over Thanksgiving 2001. It was the best spur-of-the-moment, non-researched decision we've ever made.

We were fortunate enough to be booked into a second floor unit right on the Point (3C - with a front and side water view). We fell in love with it the moment we walked in.

The front and side walls were actually double sets of french doors that opened to let in the breeze and an unobstructed view. The loft bedroom with the overhead skylight was cozy. The decor was very tasteful, right down to the switchplates.

The service that let us pre-order from the convenience store was great. My husband spent hours feeding red hibiscus to the iguanas - a wonderful sight - and the sun set directly in front of us. In the evening, we lit a candle and watched the sun go down.

There were "noseeums" that loved me, but never once touched my husband (a minor inconvenience). The pool and beach decks were great for me. There was no beach and though the snorkeling was good, it was a bit hard to negotiate the rocky shoreline.

We ate on the property at Ellington's three times because we liked it. The Chillean Sea Bass was out of this world. Their Thanksgiving turkey was pretty good, too.

It was a four to five minute walk to town, where we enjoyed a fine meal at the Stone Terrace. We also had really good shrimp at the Lime Inn. There were other meals just as good, but he names escape me.

We rented a zodiac and did some fabulous snorkeling. Unfortunately, the sea was too rough for us to get into Trunk Bay.

Unfortunately, the tragedy of 9/11 required that we cut our trip short by one day - we couldn't make the first ferry and get through airport security in time for our plane. Cheryl Thomas took care of cancelling our final night and she booked us a room on St. Thomas. We thought it was a great experience and we've already booked the same room for next Thanksgiving.

Nice place to stay Visited: May 2001
Posted by ege244
I have to say that I enjoyed my stay at Gallows. There was a taxi waiting for me at the ferry dock to pick me up. As I was checking in, I could see the Caribbean between the buildings and the palm trees. The botanical gardens are very nice and each plant is labeled for identification. There were peacock's wandering about also.

Because of my late booking I wasn't able to stay in one room the entire time. I was moved to another room which I thought was even nicer. All the rooms have large doors all around that you can open for the view and the fresh air. The mosquito's are bad and the ants come out if you leave food around. All the units have cans of spray if you need to use it.

The decor was nice with rattan furniture and local art. No air-conditioning in my unit, just ceiling fans. It would have been nice to get out of the heat for a while however, it cooled down later at night. Because of the openness of the rooms, sound does travel and since I was on the harbor side you could hear the bands playing late at night in Cruz Bay. Oceanside would be a better choice. Both units had really nice scenery however, when I moved into unit 11c, I immediately opened all the doors and was struck with the beauty of the ocean and the harbor all in one. I got my camera and proceeded to take pictures.

Everything is very well maintained, the grounds and the pool. The pool is nice and there are steps to take you to the ocean to go snorkeling. There is no beach.

There is a convenience store and laundry facilities on the property.
The restaurant "Ellingtons" which is located upstairs is excellent but expensive and only open for dinner at 5:30 and reservations are required. Casual attire is all that is necessary in all of St. John.

The location is excellent, only a 5 minute walk from Cruz Bay. Because eating out was so expensive I went grocery shopping at the Starfish Market and fixed my own meals. Having a kitchen was nice. I can't imagine how much I saved by preparing my own meals.

I had an enjoyable stay at Gallows and I will return again.

My wife and I honeymooned at Gallows Point and it exceeded all expectations. Our condo was well laid out, very clean, and had fantastic views. The grounds around the resort were very well kept and the staff was very helpful. The location was ideal for us—just up the street from the restaurants and shops of Cruz Bay. There was also good snorkeling right off of the point. The rates are also very reasonable; probably one of the best values on the island. We will be back in 2001.

Not a second time! Visited: August 2000
Posted by wetterwart_lacke
We have traveled a lot in the Caribbean and we expected much when we made our reservation at Gallows Point. I stayed here for two weeks in August with my wife.
To make a long story short: We won't stay here a 2nd time:
1) There is only a so-called air-conditioning unit in the bedroom; This "AC" works so poorly, that the room temperature was nearly the same as outside. The AC is so loud, that you have to use earplugs. There’s no AC in the living room or kitchen.
BUT:
2) Don’t open the doors or windows to catch some breeze in the evening or during the night unless you like bugs, noseeums or anything else that can fly or bite. I’ve never had so many bites in my life. We bought a mosquito net in order to survive the nights, because even with closed doors and windows there were mosquitoes all over.
3) Don't expect restful silence at Gallows Point while sitting on your balcony: Nearly every 15 minutes a ferry comes in or goes out from the harbour; Diesel engines are very loud and roaring.
4) Some beaches are nice, but you have to rent a car to go there. The pool is small and overheated. The beach at the hotel is very stony, with no sand at all.

We (a couple in our 40's) stayed at Gallows Point in July of 2000. It is an absolutely beautiful place. The rooms are spacious and attractive. The pool is in a great setting overlooking the water. This is a quiet and relaxed resort, yet close to all of the restaurants and shopping in Cruz Bay. The staff is very helpful and gracious.

Fabulous Holiday on St. John at Gallows Point! Visited: October 1999
Posted by ATraveler
We just returned from St. John a week ago Friday and we were awestruck at not only the beauty of St. John itself, but we were particularly thrilled with our stay at Gallows Point.

The suite was immaculately clean and we had a breathtaking view of the sea. There was wonderful lush foliage all over the property and the staff were very kind and helpful, especially when we were preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Jose. They made sure all guests had adequate lanterns and other emergency supplies, as well as timely weather updates, in preparation for the hurricane.

Restaurants were abundant, all within a very scenic five-minute walk to town. We were very impressed with Gallows Point and enjoyed our stay there immensely. We would recommend it to anyone traveling to St. John!
