Cottages by the Sea is beautiful, quiet, and friendly. Visited: May 2008 |

My wife and I stayed here for six days, and wanted to stay forever.
Our first three days we simply stayed at cottages, and ate our meals next door at the fabulous restaurant. The final three days we rented a car and enjoyed the rest of the island.
The only place better to snorkel is Buck Island, and nowhere else on the island did we find a more pleasant, laid back atmosphere. That is quite a statement since everywhere we went, the people were on "island time".
Paul was a wonderful host who bent over backwards to take of everything we could have possibly needed.
If you want a peaceful, beautiful, non-commercialized get away, this is the place for you (and us!). |

This was a much needed mini-vacation for me. A friend recommended and booked my stay - and I will make sure this will be "my home" every time I visit.
Before my trip I was a victim of an attempted robbery at my restaurant/bar and needed the R&R. Cottages by the Sea was the perfect remedy! |

We live in Minnesota where it is 89 deegrees colder than at Cottages. What a wonderful place to stay.
The staff was so friendly, and the place was clean and fresh. We loved the "regulars" too! |

I have been returning to Cottages for over twenty years.
The water is beautiful, the staff is like family, and the cottages are clean and comfortable.
This is a place where you can regain your tranquil self. You can enjoy a nap, have conversations with interesting people (without telephones ringing) or just float in the blue water. You can do as much or as little as you choose. It is a real vacation, one you will be glad you took.
You can enjoy a beautiful beach, sea birds, lizards, turtles, tropical flowers, coconut palms, rum drinks, warm breezes and warm people. What else could you want? Oh yes, there is the Green Flash seen by some and sought by many, and the old Danish pottery some find while swimming or snorkeling. |

Cottages by the Sea is a wonderful, quaint, relaxing, family owned, non-commercial hotel that sits on one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! I hated leaving and I can't wait to go back. It is perfect for a family! |

What a special property. Visited: March 2006 |

We were so lucky to find this property! This beach was by far the best on the whole island of St. Croix, and the price was so much more reasonable than other hotels we looked at. The staff and other guests were so friendly, too. I can believe that guests return yearly.
Our cottage was so comfortable, but we really spent most of our time outside anyways. We had a really large patio that overlooked the beach. On the patio was a couch, dining table, and two chairs. Our patio was one of the larger ones. That cottage was called Cruzan cottage. The breezes were great on that patio, so much that I was a little cold at night.
The snorkeling off the beach was excellent, and we also really enjoyed grilling out on the main patio at night.
We felt guilty that we didn't do more sight-seeing, but we just really enjoyed relaxing on the property - taking a swim, snorkeling, napping and grilling. It took a few days to settle in, but once we did, we didn't want to leave.
Thank you Cottages by the Sea! |

Since our tiny house can't accommodate my children and grandchildren, we decided to just vacation with them at Cottages by the Sea. I was familiar with the property and the owners from having wedding clients stay there. But even so, I was still impressed with what a pleasant, relaxing place it was.
Sylvia did a wonderful job keeping things clean and getting whatever extras we might need for the kids. The grounds were well-kept and safe for the young ones, water and beach a short walk from our door.
I definitely will use Cottages rather than other places I've tried. Our only hesitation was the lack of a pool, but we ended up being glad for this, as the water was calm and it allowed the kids to become more comfortable with ocean swimming and snorkeling.
Sandcastle restaurant next door was good, and Sunset Grill just on the other side of town for lunch or dinner is highly recommended. |

This place was paradise! Visited: October 2004 |

If you are looking for a relaxing retreat, this is the place. It was quiet and secluded, but all our needs were cheerfully met. We could step outside our cottage right onto the secluded beach. It was like having our own private oasis.
We are TV watchers and we got to see all our favorites. There were lots of channels from which to choose, and we didn't miss a beat. There was also an excellent restaurant right next door, and the town of Fredriksted had many wonderful dining venues from which to choose.
You will want to rent a car, and driving was on the left, but it was easy to catch on and the speed limits were real slow. The people were also quite friendly. And although the buildings looked very old, we were amazed by the quality and design of the restaurants once we were inside. The St. Tropez was especially nice. The Lost Dog had pizza and the bar was great. It also had a more formal dining room in the back and the food was great.
As for our accommodations, all the units had kitchens so guests could stock up at one of the supermarkets on the island, of which there were plenty. Just like at home, they stocked all the stuff we take for granted. If you were to need something from a department store, or wanted to buy snorkeling stuff, etc. there were two Super K-Marts that had it all.
Don't miss Armstrong's homemade ice cream! My wife and I felt most comfortable and we enjoyed our anniversary very much. We had a great meal at The Cultured Pelical in Christiansted, and shopping was a great adventure. The ATM machines dispensed US dollars and it worked just like at home.
I can't say enough about how well the Benedict family treated us. We fed the dog and cats and felt right at home. We got to meet Jamesie Brewster, who is a famous scratch musician and brought home two of his mahogany cups made from one solid piece of wood.
Sylvia, our cleaning lady, became our friend right off. There were also iguanas right near the property, and the fish in the ocean, just ten feet from the beach, were amazing. It was like swimming in our own personal aquarium. I can't recommend this property strongly enough.
In addition, there was a casino on the oposite side of the island and it was in a great scenic setting of its own. On the north side there were numerous small restaurants. Try the Lobster Reef. It was a little shack on the beach, but the food and drinks were excellent.
Be adventurous and you won't be disappointed. We will be returning every chance we get. It is affordable and comfortable without being ostentatious like a Marriott-type hotel. The weather is perfect here and the memories will last a lifetime. What beautiful pictures we have to remind us until our next visit. |

Information on this place should indicate that the guests are allowed to bring their dogs. And for those not used to dogs, it is like a vacation in a kennel. |

My husband and I relocated to St. Croix and needed a place for an extended stay. We had a lovely two-room cottage located in paradise. The water was several different shades of blue and extremely clear. There was also good snorkeling right outside our door.
The family who ran the Cottages was very warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. |

Cottages by the Sea was the perfect place for our wedding and honeymoon. The setting was perfect, the people were great and -not to mention - it was located on the best beach in St. Croix!
The waters were very warm, calm, crystal clear and the sunsets were those which movies are made of.
We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing, stress-free vacation/honeymoon. We didn't want to leave. Paul, Tom and Carol were wonderful. They were always very hospitable and accommodating. The guests were very friendly and we all felt like one big family by the end of the week. (If you chose to.)
If you are looking for a great deal, friendly atmosphere, simple accommodations and a perfect view, Cottages by the Sea will be perfect for you! We can't wait to go back to spend future anniversaries here!

Best deal and best beach on St. Croix. Visited: October 2002 |

This "mom and pop" hotel has all the charm of the Florida Keys with a perfect beach (which I consider the BEST beach on St. Croix)and cottage prices to make anyone smile.
The kitchens are wonderful, the beds are comfortable and the views are fantastic. My wife and I felt as though we were visiting long lost relatives after being looked after so warmly by Tom, Carol, Paul and the entire staff.
If you're looking for the best place on St. Croix to really relax, this is it. Thank you, Cottages By the Sea, for the best vacation we have had in years. |

Cottages by the Sea is the best place in the world to get away from it all and totally relax.
The beach is perfect, and the water is crystal clear (you can read the date on a dime in shoulder deep water). The sunsets are breathtaking (the beach faces west), the accommodations are clean, simple, and all you would want for a getaway in paradise.
The Cottages are on the leeward side of the island, so the sea is like a pool with gentle lapping waves - never rough. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a place with a bunch of activities - there are no jet skis, boats, wind surfing boards or people serving you rum drinks under umbrellas on the beach. But if you are looking to totally relax, read books, swim, snorkle, and just plain chill out - you won't find a better place.
Spend the day enjoying the pristine beach, spend the evening watching the sunset and meeting new friends at Happy Hour on the patio, and the spend night time listening to the waves as you fall asleep. Then, get up in the morning and do it all again! That's my idea of an island getaway! |

Heaven on earth! "The" place to settle back, make yourself at home and breath easy. Take your time, take a break, sit around, look around, stop work, lie down, unbend and be at ease. There's lots of things to do, or "not" to do. Wash your cares away with the tide and appreciate the world in a whole new way. You'll come home not needing a vacation from your "vacation." |

The place to go for a relaxing, casual, care-free vacation. Visited: November 1999 |

My husband and I have stayed at Cottages by the Sea three times and have had a wonderful time each visit. The cottages are rustic and casual which matches the atmosphere of that part of the island. We will be vacationing there again in February and are looking forward to the warm hospitality that we have received before.
The beach in front of the cottages is breathtaking as are the sunsets at cocktail hour where the guests gather to watch for the sun's "green spot" over the horizon. I recommend for anyone who wants a really wind-down, kick your shoes off, shorts and T-shirt vacation, spend at least two weeks at Cottages by the Sea. |
