This is a great R&R beach. Visited: January 2008
Posted by rsilver
This was the 11th year we stayed at Emerald Beach. We have seen remarkable improvements made on the property.

The employees are very friendly, some don't speak English well, but this is a Caribbean island. You will find people from all over the world here.

Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and different things left in the room for our convience:soap, lotion, coffee, etc.

The gift shop is a great place to get things to take home, just ask for Bethany for help.

The pool is beautiful with the great sound of the everflowing waterfall right on the beach. The beach is covered with umbrellas to sit under with chaises that are provided.

In all, we think this is the best place to stay on St. Thomas because of its close location to the airport and because it's an easy, fast way to rest and relax.

This was a great place to stay - I want to go back! Visited: November 2007
Posted by debbdan
We visited for one week in November 2007. We had a single room with a king sized bed.

The room appeared as if it has just been recently renovated. It was nicely done, and the furniture and design were well suited. It was easy on the eye with calm, cool colors.

I liked the nice roomy, updated bath, and I liked the ceramic tile flooring throughout. I especially liked the full balcony and the view from the room.

We ate breakfast at the restaurant several times. It was a bit pricy, but it tasted good and our service was excellent. We really didn't have much interaction with hotel staff, but on the few ocassions they were very responsive.

The grounds and beach were very nice - especially the beach. We visited the pool, which was wonderful. The resort was close to the airport, and at first I thought it would be a problem (noise) but it was not at all. By mid-week, I didn't even notice.

I would often take a taxi into town. The driver was great as well. His name was Leppy. He was kind, considerate and encouraged us to ask him questions about the island. If you ride with him, tell him Debby said hi.

The staff and drivers work really hard, and sometimes dealing with the public isn't easy. I found that if I was patient, kind and considerate that we would often receive that back twice what we have given.

I hope this review was helpful. Have a great stay! I can't wait to get back.

I had the time of my life! Visited: June 2007
Posted by annybat927
I vacationed here last month with some friends from work.

I think you should pay no attention to the negative comments listed here. The place was peaceful and calming, and the food was wonderful - if you like fast food. The beach was beautiful.

I had a wonderful time, and I would go back.

We love it! Visited: August 2006

We vacation in St. Thomas and St. John at least once a year. We've stayed here many times, and it's definitly my favorite. We even like it better than Caneel Bay on St John, which is super expensive!

Every room is beach front with your own private balcony. The rooms are nice, but nothing fancy - and the rates are great. The pool area is breathtaking, the beach is super nice and clean, and the resort grounds are very nice.

My only complaint is that the front desk staff can be kind of snotty, and the restaurant food isn't good at all. They serve a free continental breakfast that is good, and the restaurant is open air on the beach which is just amazing. The friday night West Indian buffett is fabulous, but other than that we just don't eat here as it's never good and is high priced.

I am always sad to leave Emerald Beach and go home.

What a nice beach! Visited: July 2006
Posted by eyeseewebpeople
The hotel was just fine, but the beach was fantastic. I left my room, and within one minute, I was snorkeling along the rock ledge that bordered the beach. The marine life was abundant.

Also, the burgers at the bar were very good. Everything was reasonably priced.

This was a perfect getaway spot that offered more seclusion than most resorts we looked at while on the island.

I would recommend this as a good value. Visited: June 2005

This is a good place to stay at a reasonable price. It is right on the beach.

It is also clean, with a good restaurant, and is small enough to be friendly. We enjoyed it. There isn't anything to do at night, though. But it is very handy to town and the airport.

I would definitely go back. Visited: April 2005
Posted by pbolduc3
The rooms were kept clean. The staff was very pleasant. The ocean and pool were wonderful, and there were plenty of chairs on beach. The food was okay.

The view from our room was fantastic. It was a quiet and relaxing resort.

We were four couples and had a great time. Everyone said they would go back. Also, the airport was no problem.

We did not rent a car, but took a cab when we left the resort to go to town or on excursions.A

We had a very relaxing, fun and pleasant time. Do not pay attention to negative reviews. I am glad that did not stop us from coming here.

This has to be the best beach on St. Thomas. Visited: January 2005
Posted by jshearer42
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Emerald Beach Resort from January 21st - January 31st. I was a little nervous about staying here after reading reviews on other websites about the close proximity to the airport.

The plane traffic did not bother us at all. Actually, it was kind of fun watching the planes take off. As mentioned in one review I read, the large jet traffic typically stopped around 3:00 pm.

All in all, we had a wonderful vacation. We stayed in two different rooms while we were here because our return flight was cancelled due to the ice storms in Atlanta. Luckily, there were still a few rooms available at Emerald Beach, so we didn't have to change hotels.

Both rooms were clean and typical "Best Western" style, which was definitely not fancy, but functional nonetheless. The housekeeping staff was friendly and did a good job. The one complaint I had about the rooms was that in our first room, we could not keep the water temperature in the shower at a comfortable level. It was either too hot or too cold.

The resort as a whole was great. The restaurant was just okay, and the service at the bar was pretty good. I would recommend eating lunch at the hotel, but going out in town for dinner. The dinner menu at the hotel restaurant was fairly limited and the food was average.

The best part about this hotel was the beach. My girlfriend and I rented a jeep while we were in St. Thomas, so we traveled around the island quite a bit and visited numerous other beaches on both St. Thomas and St. John.

The beach at Emerald Beach Resort was the most beautiful and had the calmest water of any we visited. It was also never crowded and was easy to find beach chairs.

If you are going to St. Thomas mainly to just relax on the beach, I would definitely recommend the Emerald Beach Resort. If we went back there, I would definitely stay at this resort again.

This was our first trip to the Caribbean, so next time we will probably go to the BVIs or another island for a different experience. However, I would recommend St. Thomas to anyone that has not been there before.

Emerald Beach was quiet and peaceful filled with nice people. Visited: May 2003
Posted by blac747
We stayed here from May 20, 2003 to May 25, 2003.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Genia and Vickie (at the front desk) and Rolston and Sam (the bartenders) were great.

Nice beach and nice people - what else is there?

We'll be back! Visited: February 2003

This is a small and very well maintained resort. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. Each room has patio or balcony and faces the beach. It doesn't just face the beach, you're actually on the beach. There is a beautiful view out the patio doors.

The staff is very friendly and polite. This is not a large, overcrowded place. There is lots of open space on the beach - and what a peaceful beach!

The hotel is right next to the airport, but surprisingly the limited number of flights didn't bother us. This is a great hotel to base from. It is just a short cab ride to town or any place else. I can't wait to go back.

What a beautiful Caribbean beach. Visited: February 2003
Posted by uc123
The beach was spectacular and the weather was even better.

The hotel was nice and, for the most part, the staff was friendly. Being a larger resort than where I'd just visited in St. Croix however, I found it very crowded, with not enough beach chairs that were in good shape. Most were missing multiple strands and had gaping holes. I had to be on the beach before 9:30 am to get a good chair or they were gone.

Due to more people being there, I also found the service rather slow in both the beach bar and the restaurant. In fact, once I was so tired of waiting I walked over to get my bill myself and paid it at the restaurant bar. The room came with a continental breakfast, but it wasn't what I expected like croissants, coffee and juice, but rather had things like pound cake on it - for breakfast?

Although the hotel was nice and quite clean, I still found it overpriced for what I got and where it was located. I'd taken the seaplane in and the drive from there to the hotel was not impressive. As I was alone, I did not feel safe leaving the property to go out on my own and had been told that as well by locals I'd met.

A nice place to relax. Visited: November 2002
Posted by joannearichmond
My husband and I loved it. The proximity to the airport was nice - with no loss in travel time.

As soon as we opened our room door, we were met by sunlight and a breathtaking beach view. The beach was well-kept and beautiful. The property greenery was perfect. The staff was courteous and helpful, and the bartenders were friendly.

It was a very calm and relaxing atmosphere which we needed and were totally satisfied with. We will return.

A relaxing getaway. Visited: February 2002
Posted by llp66
We stayed at the Emerald Beach in February 2002.

While the hotel rooms themselves were not what I would call luxurious, the beach and the overall atmosphere was fantastic. It was very secluded (ironic, since it was next door to the airport) and situated on a beautiful strip of white sand beach.

The sunsets were gorgeous, the food was good, the drinks were great, and the pool was lovely. If you're looking for a quiet (yet not boring), inexpensive (compared to the high rise hotels), relaxing getaway (the beachside bar was awesome) - this is the place.

We came back! Visited: February 2002
Posted by tompmcg
We came back here again and met up with another couple who had been here the year before.

We came back for the relative seclusion of the beach, the food, the open air bar and the very relaxing atmosphere. Rolston (the bartender) and Donald (the beach attendant) were both very friendly and helpful.

The only downside was that we were in building #4 and I experienced what I heard others had complained about - low water pressure, so a hot bath was out of the question. However, showers were comfortable.

We would definitely come back again. We are planning for another trip next year.

The bottom line – we brought snorkeling equipment along and we spent another week in paradise.

Great budget spot! Visited: May 2001
Posted by allisonpetrone
First of all, the most pleasant hotel employee was Dawn. She is very sweet & helpful. Rolston was a good bartender down by the beach.

The view was nice but the room didn't seem as nice as it did in the picture. Hot water in the shower lasted only about 10 minutes and the pressure was low.

The shuttle service which is only given once a day at 9:30 am was inconvenient because you can't sleep a little late if you want to get into town. In addition to having to beat the free continental breakfast which is only given until 10 am. Breakfast was okay could've been better. Which goes back to the shuttle service which would often be crowded and if you were lucky the shuttle would come back & pick you up. It's used in connection with their sister property, The Carib Beach Resort.

Other than that the beach was clean and uncrowded. Emerald Beach Resort was a pleasant experience for the money.

We're going back! Visited: February 2001

We picked Emerald Beach based on the information on this site and it turned out to be a
great choice. We got the close proximity to the beach, the waterfront view, and the
solitude we wanted.

You get dropped off at the front office and after checking in you go out the back door to
the rooms. There are four buildings, each have three floors. Building 1 is to the far right
with 18 rooms. Buildings 2, 3 and 4 each contain 24 rooms. Each room has its own
balcony and faces the setting sun over the bay. On the walkway between buildings 2 and 3
you have the pool to the left, the restaurant to the right, the open air bar, then three steps
down to the beach. Access to the beach is between the buildings (except between 3 and
4).

The beach at Lindbergh Bay is shared by only three establishments – Emerald Beach, the
Beachcomber Resort and restaurant, and Walkers by the Sea. So the people on the beach
were only from these resorts. As you walk into the water, there are some rocky areas
(unlike Magen’s Bay beach), but it’s not horrible.

There’s no gift shop except for the toiletries and post cards available at the front desk; so
be sure to bring books, magazines and film with you. There is a dry cleaning service but it
is very expensive. The rooms have plenty of hot water, they are clean, and there is an iron,
a hair dryer, a coffee maker, a small refrigerator and a safe in each room.

The front desk personnel is very friendly, especially Dawn. You can buy a newspaper (The
Daily News), book a tour of the island, book a tour of St. John, and hail a taxi from here.

Rolston makes a delicious Margarita at the open air bar. At night it was very relaxing,
having a couple of drinks, watching the sun set and the cruise ships depart in the distance.
A couple of times we even ordered food at the bar and didn’t bother going into the
restaurant.

There were a few minor inconveniences. The request for a first floor room that we made
with our travel agent did not get to the hotel. It was only a half flight up to the second
floor in building 3, so it was acceptable. The A/C was a bit noisy (for me, a light sleeper)
but the steady hum and cooling of the ceiling fan did the trick. At the complimentary
breakfast you are given a bill of $0.00 with the expectation of charging a tip to your room.
I always left a tip, but others did not. And as one guest put it, “Complimentary means
free!”

Talk about Paradise! Visited: January 2001
Posted by erica_east
We started by reviewing the accommodations listed on wheretostay.com, and compared the list with a local travel agent’s recommendations. The travel agent did not offer Emerald Beach, but after reading the reviews on wheretostay.com, we knew that Emerald Beach was our choice.

Arriving at the hotel was like being in a dream, the room was on the lower level, and we were literally on the beach. Arriving late at night, we decided to get dinner at the hotel restaurant, and were delighted with the salmon, margaritas and service (ask for Easy). The hotel service was very friendly, especially Jorge.

We rented a car for a few days and after exploring the island, realized that we chose the best place to stay. For the exception of a few planes taking off and landing at the airport, the beach was serene and far from crowded. There was a walking path that ran in front of the hotel, which was great for a morning run.

We’d definitely recommend Emerald Beach!

Just what the doctor ordered Visited: March 2000

I chose Emerald Beach for my first Caribbean visit in March of 2000. I was not interested in high volume or high rise hotels, I was looking for R&R. There is plenty of that at Emerald Beach with the glorious views and sparkling water. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and kind. I am returning at the end of January for a longer stay and introducing my daughter to this amazing place. I so look forward to this return trip and will do it annually. I would stay nowhere else!

Very nice place to stay. Visited: October 1999
Posted by jdweb
My wife and I stayed at the Emerald Beach Hotel in October 1999. We didn’t have a long stay at the resort, but I must say the hotel is very nice. The balcony offers a spectacular view of the beach. The water was just spectacular, and the palm trees and plants give it a nice setting.

The beach was not crowded which gave us time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Occasionally you’ll hear an aircraft flying by, the noise however was very minimal and did not pose any problems.

The staff were very nice and friendly, at the hotel and at the restaurant. Overall a nice Small hotel (not a high rise hotel) to stay. I’ll definitely go back there again.

Convenient and unintimidating, with a relaxed atmosphere. Visited: November 1999
Posted by belcanto
My husband and I stayed at Emerald Beach in February 1994. It was our very first trip to the Caribbean, and we found the staff at Emerald Beach to be very helpful to a couple of novice travelers.

The beach and bar staff were especially friendly and helpful. One thing that influenced our decision to stay there was its smaller size (not a big high-rise hotel!) and the fact that every unit looks out onto the beach.

After exploring the island a bit, we realized that Emerald Beach was a much shorter drive from downtown, the airport, and the Frenchtown area than other hotels on the island. We would definitely stay there again!
