Harmony makes up for creature comforts Maho does not provide. Visited: August 2008 Posted by amf I just got back from St. John. I stayed four nights in a Harmony Studio. It was fantastic. There was a fridge and a bathroom, and the balcony with its trees and resident birds made it just a relaxing accommodation. Steps up to the Harmony Studio clusters was not that bad, really! Also, it was easy access to Maho's bays and the Pavillion for excellent meals (I did not need to turn on the stove); the store for sandwiches for lunch. They even had adequate wines, and it was not that inconvenient! The staff was, in general, congenial and efficient - except one or two who need to be taught to be better mannered. Requests for taxis and tour operators were available, even in short notice. Response to two calls for 'maintenance' were instant, though they were not major disasters. Harmony Studios has the best all-around-view - dawn to dusk, rain or shine. It is such a beautiful place to spend a few days of vacation. Visited: February 2001 Posted by howief We were attracted to this place because St. John is mostly protected National Park land, and because Harmony Studios attempts ecological harmony. So it is a perfect place for old hippies like me and my wife. If you don’t need casinos and lots of shopping, this is a great island. There are great hikes. All of the beaches are secluded, except at the Westin Resort. As for Harmony Studios, they indeed get all their power from solar. Isn't that cool? The restaurant has a limited menu, but the food was excellent and the views are spectacular. Single drawback if you have creaky knees - there's a lot of steps between the cabins and the beach. Visited: December 1969 Posted by rockyisland My wife and I have been to Maho Bay Camps five times over the past ten years, and have always stayed in the tents. This trip, we decided to move up to Harmony Studios... kind of as a treat to ourselves. Besides heading to the Caribbean, this was the best decision we made in the entire trip. When we walked through the door of unit 6A, we were blown away by the stunning view looking out high over Maho all the way to St. Thomas. We've stayed at many places in our travels, but none had the majestic beauty we had from our balcony/deck. I counted 211 stair steps from the Maho Bay Camps cafe to our Harmony studio. It was pretty rough the first couple of days being Mid-west flat landers from Michigan, but we toned up pretty fast. It was at least that many steps again to get down to the beach from the cafe. While Little Maho Bay beach seems tired and worn, Big Maho Bay beach is the exact opposite with beautiful sand and water to match. We made nightly visits to the glass blowing studio following dinner, and enjoyed many hours watching the artists apply their trade and fielding questions from the audience. No matter how many times the same question was asked, they always treated it as the they had never heard it before. St. John and the camp have become our gauge for all other Caribbean places.
