It is not a bad deal for the price. Visited: May 2008

I arrived to St. Martin a day early, and just needed a place to crash prior to our week at the Marriott. Upon arrival, I asked a local police officer where was a good place to crash for the night where I could get value for my money. He suggested the Beachcomber Hotel, which was walking distance from the airport (about a half a mile).

Having no reservations (and no idea what to expect of discount hotel), I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was pleasant, the rooms were clean, the food at the restaurant was good, and the beach was very nice. My check out was at 11:00. However, there was no pressure for us to leave our room, so we stayed for a bit and hung out at the bar and had some appetizers.

I am rating the Beachcomber a "five" - not in comparison to the Marriott or the Ritz Carlton, but for the overall value for your money. St. Thomas is pretty pricy on tourists, and to spend only $150.00 (with tax) on a clean, beachfront room without a reservation is great.

We had a great vacation. Visited: July 2007

This was our first trip to the Virgin Islands, and our stay the the Island Beachcomber was wonderful.

Much has been said previously about the beach. It was all true.
Sitting in the restruant or bar watching the water was a wonderful pasttime.

This is the place for a relaxing get-a-way. If you are expecting excitement and action, you'll need to look elsewhere. If you are looking for a very clean, quiet, and friendly hotel - this is for you.

We stayed for two weeks, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is a great place to rest and recharge. The slow pace takes some getting used to, but "island time" is alive and well throughout the islands. Sit back and enjoy the peaceful setting, the lush tropical gardens in the court yard, the ocean as it laps on the beach.

The sea breeze keeps you cool even on the warmest days. The staff is great, and the price is right. This is one of the best values going.

After reading the last post, I felt I needed to let you know how the real Beachcomber Hotel is. I have stayed here many times with my family, and have never had any problems.

It is so nice to return and be greeted by Monique (who remembers who we are and what we like and don't like), Lisa at the bar remembers what drink we like, and GiGi in the restaurant remembers our favorite meals.

The housekeepers are also very nice, and the rooms are kept very clean (I have bad allergies and asthma and have never had a problem). I have also never has any issues with the rate or with any special requests.

Sandra, the General Manager, has been very kind, and I doubt she would ever have anything unkind to say about any guest. She bends over backward to make sure guests will be happy with their stay and return again.

My family has been coming to the Beachcomber for years, and we will continue to do so. If you want the feeling that you are home visiting family and friends - this is the place to stay!

If you asthma, run! Visited: November 2006

If you love a clean, respectful atmosphere that caters to its customers, you are in the wrong place.

Not only is Iris the worst person for trying to double the price of your hotel room after you arrive, but Sandra Saville, the Assistant Manager, lacks customer service skills. She called us idiots to her staff, told them a false story, and then publicly told lies about us.

There were 12 of us in our group, including two babies, and they felt that leaving us in the boiling sun for two hours was appropriate, since they could double the price of the room and claim that was the regular price.

Needless to say, if you have an e-mail reservation, make sure you print it out and have it ready to show them. I did, and won my case.

Be careful here! The rooms were also filthy and smelled of mold. Anyone with asthma or any kind of breathing problems should beware. You will need to see a doctor after you stay here.

Island Beachcomber offers a great beach and clean rooms. Visited: June 2006
Posted by roses4
I stayed at this hotel 25 years ago, it is still pretty much the same. The property is on one of the best beaches in St. Thomas, and when not victim of a busload of "cruisers", it is wonderful. I suggest you enjoy it in the morning, and shop later in the afternoon.

The rooms are basic and very clean. There is air conditioning (which could have worked better), a small fridge and a coffemaker. But you must provide your own coffee and other items.

The hotel is right in front of the airport, but this is really not a problem - at least was not to us. If you want a great place to stay with a great beach, this is the place. It's a great deal. If I were to return tomorrow I would stay here.

This is the best place to stay on the island. It is right on the beach, and has an amazing view and atmosphere. Also, it is just as satisfying to spend a day in the hotel atmosphere!

I was disappointed in the restaurant and the Beachcomber Barbecue. Visited: April 2006
Posted by dbond26
My family and I stayed at this hotel for Carnival in April 2006. The hotel itself was simple, but very clean. The housekeeping and front desk staff were very nice, and tried to assist us in any way they could. And the beach was right there at our fingertips!

The disappointment for us was the restaurant and the Beachcomber Barbeque. The service at the restaurant was extremely slow. The staff was not friendly. Instead of "May I help you?", they asked "What do you want?" Also, the food was cold by the time it got to us.

Also, the advertisement for the Beachcomber Barbeque indicated there was a choice of "BBQ ribs, steaks, chicken fillets, hamburgers and hot dogs, and your choice of potato, garden or tomato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, rice", etc. from "6:30 pm until it's all gone". We got there at 6:30 pm, and they only offered hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. However, they still charged us $ 18.95 + tax!

And, since they did not have everything they offered on the flyer, you would think you could at least go back for another hamburger or something....wrong! When I asked, that's when they informed me I only had a choice of two meats and whatever salad.

I asked the restaurant staff to get the manager, and they got really indignant started cursing and brushing up against me. What made it worse, the manager came down and said we could only get a choice of two meats, then would not give me back my money!

I suggest if you do decide to stay here, eat elsewhere!

I would never stay here again. Visited: February 2006

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The girl at the front desk needs to learn what it means to work at the front desk of a hotel. She was rude to me and seemed to have no idea what she was doing. Talking on her cell phone seemed to be more important than the guests.

Also, I think the manager needs to learn how to manage. He never seemed to be around when he was needed - or he was at the bar drinking. Whatever happened to customer service or setting an example?

At least the rooms were clean, and the housekeeping staff was friendly and accommodating. The food in the restaurant was awful. The service at the bar was slow.

I have to admit the beach was nice. It was too bad busloads of cruise passengers ruined the ambience.

We couldn't have asked for more! Visited: April 2004
Posted by sunandsu
My fifteen-year old daughter and I stayed at Island Beachcomber for a five-day vacation. Knowing that we would be sightseeing a lot, we weren't after amenities that a fancy hotel would offer. So we were completely happy with the modest room, especially since it was immaculately clean and the beds were extrememly comfortable.

The room had fine television (though who needed it - we watched about ten minutes) and a little refrigerator that came in handy to store cold drinks, and also phone and air conditioning (also not used much since the screens let in a great breeze that circulated nicely with the ceiling fan.

The beautiful garden of palms and tropical flowers created that Caribbean atmosphere for us immediately. And best of all, the gorgeous beach, right outside our door, was as beautiful as any on the island.

For those who want a drink or food, the restaurant and bar were never crowded, and they were right on the beach providing excellent scenery.

In addition, the front desk clerk, Monique, gave us great assistance with taxis, and her tourism advice was always perfect. I hesitated booking this place because of what I'd read about its proximity to the airport, but during the two afternoons we stayed at the beach here instead of hitting others, there were only a total of three planes, and they were no problem at all - hardly noticeable. Our stay was ideal!

We discovered this gem 12 years ago, and have returned at least once a year since 1992.

The new management is a watershed for this wondrful, "funky" little hotel. The beachbar is a great place to relax and meet new friends. The rooms are big, and every room has a view of the beach and ocean. Try it, and you will love it, too.

It is right on the best beach in St. Thomas! Visited: October 2003

The location of this family-style hotel is just perfect. This hotel is in a very safe location and is also great for singles or couples.

It is right by the airport and located right on Lindbergh Bay Beach, one the most beautiful beaches in St. Thomas (in my opinion). I went to Megan's Bay which is listed as one of the best ten beaches in the world by many traveler reviews. And in my opinion, Lindbergh Bay Beach beats it by far! There aren't even any waves on Megan's Bay - just stagnant water that doesn't move! Lindbergh Bay has nice rolling waves and the sand is whiter than Megan's Bay, too.

The grounds of this hotel are lovely. They did a good job lighting little paths and lining them with pretty stones and tropical plants. It has a very tropical feel to it for someone from the north like me!

The rooms are simple, but very clean, and the bathroom has a nice big vanity area. The rooms have a large TV and a decent size refrigerator. I enjoyed my stay very much and will return.

Island Beachcomber is a beautiful hotel and property. Visited: June 2003
Posted by gettens
I toured this property when I was in St. Thomas in June. I regretted having not stayed here for part of my trip. The rooms were nice and very clean looking with nice big counter space in the bathroom to spread out all your stuff. I loved what they did with the grounds. There were little paths with nicely landscaped tropical plants - also they made use of the beautiful flat blue-green stones that are prevalent in St. Thomas by lining the walkways with them! You can see that they tried very hard to make the outside appealing. Each room has a balcony and many people were sitting out enjoying the fresh air. All age groups seemed to be at the Island Beachcomber - young and old alike. I went to the beach on Lindbergh Bay and it was better than Megan's Bay! I did not think Megan's Bay was that great at all and their snack bar stinks! Do not waste the $ 3. cover charge to get in. Lindbergh is better by far! No water movement or waves at Megans. Lindbergh Bay has the whitest sand and is almost as nice as Trunk Bay on St. John (another must if you wish to take a ferry to St. John and definitely worth the $ 4. cover charge - pristine!) Do not worry that Lindbergh Bay is so close to the airport. The 3 hours I spent at the beach, I think only 3 planes went by and they weren't that loud. The management is most friendly and accommodating. It was nice how they let me tour the rooms and outside grounds. Did I mention they have nice TV's and refrigerators in every room? Taxi's are really cheap in St. Thomas compared to most other islands I have been to so you'll be able to take a taxi into town as often as you'd like. You can really trust the taxi drivers - no problem. Lindbergh Bay is a safer area to be in than staying in town.

GO! ENJOY!

Rundown and disappointing. Visited: February 2003

We booked online based on price, a big mistake. Their web site makes this place look much better than it really is. We booked an oceanview room with a patio. Our patio was around the corner from the beach, not facing the beach. The furniture in the room was old and worn. The bed was hard and the headboard kept falling off. Our blinds didn't open and the window was small and dirty. The shower was detached from the bathroom and looked more like a closet makeover into a shower. There was one outlet in the bathroom and it didn't work.

We spent one night only. The next morning we walked next door to another resort and booked a room with them. Difference of night and day.

The only positive part of this experience was that the front desk allowed for us to cancel the rest of our reservation without penalty. In my opinion, her attitude implied that this happens frequently.

An economical and nice place to holiday. Visited: August 2002

We have stayed at the Island Beachcomber for several years, and always found it to be a great value for the money.

The beach is nice, one of the better on the island. The staff are friendly for the most part (except for the waitresses in the restaurant), and the room is kept very clean. Also, the bar has a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere in the evenings.

A wonderful place to experience! Visited: February 2002

I recently returned from a vacation at the Island Beachcomber in St. Thomas and was pleasantly surprised at how lovely the hotel was. It was in peaceful seclusion, with a private beach in its own bay.

Our room had a beautiful tropical view with its own balcony front. But what I really appreciated was the hotel's beachfront restaurant for the nights we didn’t want to go to town. We found the food to be excellent and the atmosphere was romantic.

Most importantly, the bar on the beach turned out to be a great place for meeting and socializing with the other guests of the hotel.

This was a hotel that I would definitely recommend to my friends.

An outstanding vacation retreat. Visited: February 2002
Posted by KYyur
We spent over a week at the Island Beachcomber and found that the hotel was well-maintained and spotlessly clean. It was conveniently located about five minutes by taxi or bus from the shopping areas on the Waterfront.

We were impressed with the excellent personalized service from the front desk, as well as the housekeeping and restaurant staffs. Anything we asked for immediately appeared.

I loved being able to snorkel right offshore from the hotel’s beach without being crowded out by others in the water. It was like having our own personal beach.

We enjoyed eating at the beachside restaurant and listening to the waves coming into shore. It was a place where friends could meet and make new friends.

I will definitely come back again!

Nice island, but that's it! Visited: February 2001
Posted by mg84648
We walked through the office door on the first night and were received with a glance and a "Name?" by the woman at the front desk. That night the waitress at the restaurant was the rudest I've ever seen. No "hello, you’re welcome, or a thank you." And when we weren’t ready to order, she turned and walked away tossing the order pad on the table next to us. Maybe it was the culture or lack of, but the only things that saved our vacation were the beach and downtown areas, which were beautiful!

If you can afford it, don't stay here. If you can't, be prepared for questionable manners, overpriced food and non-existent service. The rooms were musty and were in need of renovating.

Don't leave your hotel-owned beach towel in your room overnight or the cleaning lady will spank you and say,"You need to take them back to the front desk when you are done or you will be charged $5. Do you understand?" God forbid she does her job and takes them back for you!

Anyway, I won’t go back.

Great value near the airport! Visited: November 1999

I have made reservations to stay at the Island Beachcomber on three occasions as a stopover on the way to St. John. One of the times the hotel was overbooked and they paid the difference for a nights stay next door. The hotel is a good value with a very relaxing beach bar. Private jet-ski rentals on the water were a big plus. All this for a low price and five minutes from the airport. I will go back!
