It was like staying in a trailer park. Visited: March 2009 |

This place was a mere hell hole. The people here looked like they were on their last dollar. It was just a sad, sad place. We transferred out before we even slept here.
I got what I paid for: nothing for nothing. |

The Sapphire Beach Resort was bad. Visited: January 2009 |

At Sapphire Beach, both restaurants were closed. It looks like they may be closed a long time. In addition, the beach bar was closed and boarded up.
The washroom on beach was filthy, too. The beach was great, but the resort was bad. |

We've stayed here twice in the last year. If you're looking for a pampering states-like stay, don't leave your state.
This is an absolutely beautiful Caribbean vacation! The place was messed up by hurricanes, and is still rebuilding. Each time, different restaurants were open, and all were good.
The pool was awesome, and the snorkeling was out of control! Our 8-year-old and 12-year-old sons couldn't get enough of the place.
They also offered chairs, rafts and boogie boards for free if you are staying at the hotel.
The staff was cool and helpful. Also, a decent breakfast was offered.
Red Hook is a short drive or cab ride away. There were also lots of good restaurants and markets in Red Hook. The locals were very chilled out, too.
We'll be back later this month! |

Sapphire Beach boasts spectacular views and beach! Visited: April 2008 |

My wife and I frequent both the US and British VI. Quite frankly, the beach and views were nothing short of spectacular - and the best we have seen!
I also was concerned reading the reviews, but the room was extremely impressive with stone tiling and completely remodeled unit. I understand that many of the units here have recently been remodeled and certainly far exceeded our expectations. I do also understand there are some that are still not, but be sure to ask.
The restaurants were fine for a beach resort, and plenty of great restaurants were in nearby Red Hook with plenty of entertainment and choices.
This resort would be spectacular for couples and families! I highly recommend it! |

I read mixed reviews. I travel a lot, and tried to stay the one night (I was scheduled for three). I have to believe the reviews that it is terrible.
I saw the rats, many cats, and left after three hours for Frenchman's Reef and some great views and great vacationing.
This place is owned by multiple condo owners and seem to be overseen by their choice of useless management. But it's cheap, and it shows. I left, but and had a great stay for the rest of my days at Frenchman's Reef. |

We come here often and stayed at Sapphire about four times during the last few years. Things have improved.
It has always been one of the best beaches, and management seems to be starting to get it together. |

It was really, really bad! Visited: July 2007 |

We've just returned from three weeks in the Virgin Islands that included a two-night stay in Renee Migdal's beachfront units at Sapphire Beach Resort in St. Thomas. We encountered many problems.
We were here July 26th and 27th. We had no hot water; the air conditioner controls were broken; the doors would not lock; and our eight-year-old was shocked by a lamp.
In addition, there were rats and bugs; it was dirty; and there were trash and beer cans on the patio - and this is just a short list!
The owner really misrepresented her units, and has treated us very badly since returning home. Besides the serious issues with the units we rented (we and another family rented Renee's two beachfront units), there were many other problems.
The resort was dirty. Staying as an "owner guest" meant that we did not get full access to all the resort amenitites. This was contrary to what we were told.
We could not get a crib for our baby; could not use the beach towels and chairs; and could not attend the morning breakfasts. The hammock that Renee showed in her picture on her website was full of holes and was torn to shreds - which we all shared a good laugh about.
All of this plus the "resort" decided to pressure wash during our stay, so we had dirty water running in our patio. We couldn't use it or even go out to the beach from the back door (the back door was broken anyway!).
There were rats, cats and bugs everywhere. The people were rude. It was really awful. Everyone was complaining while we were here.
Avoid this place and do not believe what the condo owners tell you about it! |

My husband and I just returned from a few days at the Sapphire Beach Resort on St. Thomas. I must tell you that it was the worst trip we have ever had. We had no hot water for two days. We had no water at all for a few hours, and only got response when my husband threatened to call the Board of Health.
The resort directory boasts of restaurants and entertainment. There were no restaurants or entertainment. Fortunately, we had rented a car, so we were not at the mercy of the taxi cabs.
The resort, as a whole, was run down; and the room was less than clean with stains on the floor tiles and refrigerator door. Any wooden trim or doors all needed replacement, or at the very least, a coat of paint. The curtains had holes and were hanging off the rods.
I came home with bug bites I got while in the room overnight. It could have possibly been from fleas from the cats that roamed the property. There were also old, abandoned cars in two open areas in front of the buildings. |

This was my third time traveling to St. Thomas - but my first time staying at Sapphire. I could not have had a better experience.
The location was great - just one mile from Red Hook, where you can find everything - shopping, dining and great nightlife. Not to mention, the ferry was right there to go to St. John.
The maid service was exceptional at Sapphire, and the rooms were very clean. We requested more towels each day and they were at our door two minutes later. Sapphire also had great snorkeling - I would even say it is one of the best spots on St. Thomas to see the beautiful marine life.
I would recommend Sapphire to everyone! I did not have a single complaint. It was a great resort! |

We thought this was a total rip off. Visited: October 2005 |

We thought the Paradise Found Vacation Club was a rip off! We thought they were disorganized, and were constantly contacting us for "a new program" trying to get more money out of us.
The unit and grounds were rundown even though the maintenance fees kept going up. We thought the service was null as they were not even a part of the resort being only a few units.
Buyer beware! We can't even sell the thing. |

They had a beautiful beach - but the hotel was worn out. Visited: July 2005 |

Unfortunately, this property is in dire need of renovation. I learned that large portions of the property have been scheduled for renovation for quite some time – and are still waiting.
The good news is that while the hotel (comprised of condos) portion of the place seems to be going belly up, the restaurants are under new management and are being completely renovated. They have new names and signs (The Blue Water Grille, Flip Flops Pool Bar, and the Blue Martini Lounge). They also have a new chef, new beverage supplier, new food and drink menus and some new staff!
The beach is as beautiful as ever – and open to the public. Come to the beach, enjoy the restaurants … but skip the hotel. I thought the front desk personnel was surly, and the housekeeping staff seemed to openly and rudely solicit for tips. |

I recently stayed at this resort and had a wonderful time. The beach was the best on the island, and offered great snorkeling.
The beachfront suite was comfortable and clean. The food and service were good and I would recommend this resort. |

I've stayed in several of the resorts in the Red Hook, area and Sapphire was one of the nicer places.
They had the best beach by far, and it was well situated for easy access to the beach, the boats, and the night life. Also, the staff was helpful and courteous. |

It was absolutely beautiful! Visited: March 2005 |

I was a bit worried after reading the online reviews, but found most to be overly critical and, for the most part, unfounded.
The rooms were excellent and comfortable. The bathroom was clean, and toiletries were provided. The bathroom was resupplied daily with fresh towels, and the beds with fresh linens. We had a kitchen which saved us a lot of money, as we had our breakfast/lunches at the hotel, and ate dinners at local restaurants.
The rooms had their own safes, which was not shown in the description page of the hotel. The staff was certainly courteous, the scenery was spectacular, and the people were beautiful.
I enjoyed this trip so much I have already booked for next year. I recommend travelers get a rental car - it's cheaper than all the taxi fares you will incur, and you have more flexibility and spontaniety when choosing your activities. |

Sapphire Beach offers the best beach, rooms, view and location. Visited: February 2005 |

We have stayed here for the past two years. We stayed for two weeks in February 2005. Our unit was owned by Paradise Found Vacation Club. They were responsible for up-keep and general maintenance. All was good.
We woke up and looked at views of St. John, Tortola and other isles and cays from our bed. We had a second floor beach front suite that had a large deck/balcony. All units were on the beach with coconut palms and sea grape trees lining the beach. There was a lot of sun and shade.
There was also good snorkeling with all watersport activities on site or at Marina - which was connected to same property. Jet skiing, parasailing, fishing, day sails, sunset sails and much more were offered right from the resort. Book on your own, or use resort Booking. We have been with the parasail people from this marina and they were the best.
The resort staff was friendly and a joy to get to know. We have come to love these "local" folks for what they are - decent, religous, laid back inhabitants of our planet. No, really, get to know them. Don't be a rude, demanding tourist.
Sapphire Beach Resort is a great laid-back, or lively spot - whatever you would prefer it to be. But most of all, it is Paradise. |

We had no hot water our entire stay, ants in the bathroom, and staff that was barely a step above rude. From the front desk, to the bartender to the wait staff, the people were not friendly nor polite. The beach is beautiful, but the rest of the experience was not great. |

Please read this review carefully before you book this hotel. We found Sapphire Resort to be in no way a four-star resort.
First of all, upon pulling up to the lobby, we had a sense this resort wasn't what the brochure indicated it was. Going to our room, we realized how deceiving the brochure truly was.
Our room, an oceanview duplex suite, was disgusting. The bathrooms were totally gross; mildew was in the shower, the toilets were old and rusty, and there were cracked tiles. The ceiling had some kind of leak, and the sheetrock was hanging off and in every room some part of the wall/paint was chipping off.
The furniture was soiled, and when we went into the living room, the doors on the wall unit were hanging off their hinges. Luckily, we were able to fix that.
Also, the glass tables had chips and cracks and were hazardous to our young son, so we had to put them on the balcony and make sure he would not go near them.
The housemaid agreed that this was a good idea. The picture on the wall underneath where the ceiling leak was had mildew all over it.
Then, we ventured up to the second floor. When we turned on our a/c unit, we could not believe the amount of dust and whatever that flew out of the unit. My daughter had such an allergy attack, we turned it off and reported it to the front desk who then told us to report it to maintenance (who did clean it).
The bathroom upstairs was just as bad as the downstairs. We got in late that night, so we did not get to see much except for the room. We went to bed and had a pleasant surprise the next morning when we awoke to see the beautiful scenery from our balcony.
We enjoyed a wonderful first day on the beach - swam, snorkeled, and relaxed. Then when it was time to go back to the room... both baths and the kitchen were infested with ants! Another phone call to the front desk, and a bottle of ant spray was left by our front door. We appreciated it and used it often.
The rest of the days at the beach were not as good. The cruise ships bussed their passengers to Sapphire Beach. Approximately 100 people each day came to the hotel to use the beach, chairs, and activities.
The beautiful beach became rows and rows of people who used all the facilities with no chairs left for guests of Sapphire. We waited 45 minutes. for a burger, and breakfast buffet was the same every day.
To sum it up - the rooms, service, activities and crowded beach stink; nightlife is non-existent; but the view is priceless. St. Thomas is a beautiful island that we will definitely go back to, but not to Sapphire Resort! |

Moderate (at best) resort at luxury prices Visited: December 2004 |

We just returned from a week at the Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina with our 2 elementary school-age children. The beach was beautiful-spaces safe for the kids to play in and a marvelous fringe-reef for snorkeling. The location to the Red Hook ferry to St. Johns was also nice.
The problem was the resort itself. The furnishings and decor were typical of a beach condo. Not luxurious, but sufficient. The room was fairly clean when we arrived, but the quality of the daily maid service was sporadic. After a couple of days we asked the kids to stay off the floor when playing in the evening.
The free pool towels were thin and overall in poor condition. We found that the children's pool had places in the bottom where the concrete was coming apart with sharp edges exposed and had to help keep them out of those areas.
The restaraunts had over-priced, unimaginative cuisine. They made a big deal about the kids eating free, but unless you want your children to live on eggs or pancakes for breakfast all week, and hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken nuggets for lunch and dinner every day, it is really not a perk.
The room itself was in need of what we would consider general maintenance. Loose shelving, loose and holey screens, an unusable hair dryer, a flourescent light that sometimes came on, plaster on the walls that needed minor patching and repainting and broken stove burners were just a few things wrong with our 1 bedroom suite.
The staff made you feel like you were a major inconvenience if you asked for something. We had no dining information or room service menu in our information booklet in the room. I went to the front desk to ask them if I could receive a copy and the lady pointed to a book on the table in the lobby. This book just told about surrounding area restaraunts and didn't answer my question at all. On other occasions we asked for assistance or information and the answers of the staff were always curt and insufficient. There was no customer service whatsoever. By midweek, we had quit asking them anything.
We still had an enjoyable vacation, but would never return to Sapphire Beach Resort, or recommend it to our friends. For the money, there surely must be a better place to stay somewhere on St. Thomas! |
