It was like staying on Jackhammer Hill. Visited: May 2008
Posted by beachbumz
We stayed at Lavender Hill May 10-17th of 2008. The location was ideal - the view beautiful, and the room was clean and functional.

Although our stay was pleasant, it could have been better. The Grand Bay construction was right next door - about ten feet from Lavender Hill's East side building.

During our week, the construction ran Monday - Saturday from 8 am - 6 pm. They were using a four-ton jackhammer (for ten hours a day) to put in the foundation footings. The room shook, and the noise was intolerable. We were advised by management via email (a week after final payment was made) that 'construction' was taking place, and that they could be heard 'clanking around' - but that work began around 8:30 am and ended by 3:30 pm - well...it didn't.

Our intention of cooking in and enjoying a few quiet dinners and breakfasts were lost - we couldn't stand the noise. Other guests felt the same. Unfortunately, we rented a condo and spent no time other than our sleeping hours in it.

Speaking of sleeping, Unit 7E was in desperate need of a new mattress...neither of us got a decent night on that lumpy old bed.

Until construction is done, you're better off staying as far from Grand Bay as possible.

What a breathtaking view - I had a wonderful trip! Visited: July 2006

Lavender Hill Suites made my stay at St. John better than I could have ever imagined! The view from 3W was amazing, and I enjoyed the easy access around Cruz Bay.

The location was perfect! It was less than five minutes away from Hawk's Nest Beach, and about seven minutes away from Trunk Bay.

Lavender Hill was very clean, and the associate, Matt, was very helpful. My trip ended up being amazing! I owe most of that to Lavender Hill for providing a great place to sleep at night after a long day in St. John.

It was absolutely unbelievable. Visited: July 2006

Once you come here, you won't want to come home. The views were unbelievable from any room you stay in. The room I stayed in would be the type of two-story room I would live in. It was so fabulously decorated.

You couldn't ask for a better place to stay in on the island of St. Thomas. From the rooms to the views, the whole place was incredible. Gary, Brian, and Matt were so nice. They always made sure our stay was the best it could be. All we had to do was call Matt, and he did whatever in his power to help us.

The places to eat here were so different from one other. Every place had something else to offer that the others didn't. Also, we had the opportunity to visit the BVI - that day trip boat ride was the icing on the cake.

I would completely recommend staying at Lavender Hills Suites. One thing I wouldn't recommend, though, is flying American Airlines.

Lavendar Hill boasts breathtaking views! Visited: March 2005

We recently stayed at Lavender Hill for four nights and five days, and it was not long enough! We stayed in unit 12E, a two-bedroom, two-bath penthouse unit fully equiped with anything we would ever want - including beach chairs and a cooler.

Although construction on a new resort was going on right beside the unit, the noise was not as bad as we had expected. The view from this unit was absolutely worth every dime that we spent.

Jackie was very nice, although we were disappointed she did not meet us at the ferry dock as promised. But, a short walk later and our key was right under the mat as she said it would be.

This location was great in regards to restaurants, bars, shopping and ferry access. Also, a small grocery store was located right across the street in Gallows Point for everyday items like bread and milk and rum.

We would stay here again in a flash!

Noisey -not just the construction either Visited: February 2005
Posted by babsstella
We stayed in unit 3W with our two children and would never stay again. The deck is unsafe and the children could slip right though. Even the manager mentioned it to us.

I can't believe no one mentioned the GRAVEYARD this complex sits on top of. If you look down from your deck that is what you see and it is really creepy.

The ferries are very noisy and are coming and going all the time. In addition, the Gallows Point restaurant crowd is noisy and garbage trucks come at 5:30 a.m. to empty dumpsters...beep beep beep as they reverse. It is not a peaceful place.

We spent some time by the tiny pool and the cats were a real nuisance rubbing up against us and meowing. There are a lot of them too so if you don't like cats don't stay here. They are bold and follow you up to your room even if you tell them to go away.

The units have what you need but I would recommend staying elsewhere when on St. John. Major new condo construction is right next door and will be going on for some time. Picture jackhammers.

The beaches of St. John are gorgeous and the restaurants (we loved the Fish Trap) are excellent.

Even the weather gods love this place! Visited: September 2004

We were worried, but the island was not touched by the hurricanes. And on top of that, Lavender Hill turned out to be just wonderful - the resort itself, the views, and the location!

Lavender Hill Suites is a fabulous place to stay! Visited: August 2004

My family and I just came back from our wonderful stay at Lavender Hill Suites in St. John, USVI. It was our first visit to the island and what a fantastic experience it was.

The accommodations at Lavender Hill were among the best of the best! Our condo had all the necessary amenities to make our stay all the more pleasurable. The view from our room was absolutely breathtaking.

The location was close enough that we could walk in to town and take advantage of the many shops, restaurants and the ferry docks.

As far as we're concerned, if you're looking for a vacation that can be totally relaxing or filled with lots of activity, St. John is perfect and Lavender Hill Suites is definitely the place to stay!

Lavender Hills is awesome! Visited: June 2004

I spent a wonderful week here in June 2004. It was truly a magical place to stay! The views were absolutely spectacular.

The manager, Jackie, was very informative, courteous, and professional. The penthouse unit I rented, 9E, had everything you could possibly need. I was told that they were installing central air conditioning that week, but the breezes were nice and I don't think we would have used it!

Also, the pool was a very nice size for the kids to play. They actually had enough room to swim and I did a few laps as well. I would not hesitate to rent this unit again!

This was a great place to stay! Visited: May 2004

We have stayed many places in Cruz Bay, St. John over the years (Gallows, Battery Hill, Coconut Coast, Villa Caribe), but this one was the best for us!

They had the best location, best views, best breezes, best overall! When we travel with children, the amount of room we have (and privacy!) means a great deal to me! After all, it's my vacation too! What a spacious unit! We had a bedroom and bath on the main floor for the adults, and the kids had a bedroom and bath with tv upstairs for them. Everyone was happy!

The kitchen was brand new and very well equipped! We ate all of our meals on the wonderful bar height table on the balcony. I would look over at Asolare on the hill thinking "I have a better view than them for 1/4 the price"

I hesitate to recommend Lavender Hill only because I don't want my secret vacation place to get booked up! All kidding aside, it's a wonderful place!

This was an absolutely fantastic place to stay! Visited: May 2004

I visited St. John for the second time, first was on a cruise ship! Next time, I said to myself, I want to stay a while! So I did!

Our unit was one of the penthouses that had a bedroom and bath on each of the two floors. My 10-year-old daughter and I shared unit 9E with another friend and her daughter for some "girl" time! We had a blast!

The unit was absolutely beautiful with everything we needed and more! There was a new Dell computer with earthlink internet access, new DVD/VCR player with TVs upstairs and downstairs, stereo, hairdryer, curling iron, ironing board and iron, etc, etc. I felt like I was staying in someone's home instead of a rental unit since it was so well appointed!

It was also so close to town that we didn't need a car, but we rented one anyway since we had the kids and their things in tow! What a phenomenal place for a vacation!

We cooked a little (we were on vacation after all!) and the new kitchen made meals very enjoyable to prepare. There were even two gas grills around the pool that we used for lunch and dinner occasionally while the girls swam. The complimentary laundry was a blessing so we didn't have to carry all of our dirty laundry home with us!

We spent our last afternoon by the pool since the laundry was three steps from the pool. It was the most enjoyable laundry day I've had in 20 years of marriage! Also, Jackie, the on site manager, was wonderful. I would highly recommend Lavender Hill Suites and will be booking again for a family vacation for next year!

This is an amazing location and a great deal! Visited: May 2004

I just got back from Lavender Hill Suites in the US Virgin Islands (and I’m going back again in January). The location was amazing. As we were riding on the ferry from St. Thomas, Lavender Hill was definitely the jewel on Cruz Bay.

The manager, Jackie, greeted us at the dock. She was an absolute delight! She was informative about the island, gave great dining suggestions( Zozo’s, 10 Tables, Paradiso), and was extremely sympathetic regarding the construction situation.

As we drove to LH we could obviously see that there was a construction site adjacent to the property. Being an earlier riser, and my family in desperate need of beach time, we were out-and-about on the island exploring each day (I believe we hit every beach. Our favorite was Trunk Bay). So, the construction didn’t phase us much. Jackie and Gary in reservations offered us a lucrative adjustment to our stay.

We loved the hospitality, location, property, and convenience so much. We have decided to book another stay at Lavender Hill in January 2005, because there is nothing worse than going through another North East winter.

The price is right with a discounted condo. Visited: April 2004
Posted by beverly12
We had a wonderful experience at Lavender Hill Suites. There was construction next door that was noisy, but we just spent the noisy time [8:30 am - 3:30 pm] at the beach or shopping.

We asked about a discount, and got it - even booked again for the end of fall. On our trip back, we heard other condos in same area gave no discounts because of the noise. I say go for it and just get yourself out and about for the noisy time. The price is right and you will not regret those sunsets and the beaches.

Lavender Hill has a great location - but awful noise problems. Visited: March 2004
Posted by debbie_s
The location is great, with a nice view, nice clean units (nothing fancy). But they are building a new resort right next to Lavender (very close). It's just under way with jackhammers going from 8:30 am until approximately 3:30 pm - six days a week.

Some units have no air in the living and you must leave your doors open and the noise is unbelieveable. The small pool is hard to enjoy. For the money, consider another resort.

A view to die for! Visited: August 2001
Posted by alderman
We stayed at Lavender Hill in August of 2001.

The unit was beautifully appointed with a tropical flair. The wrap-around porch provided splendid views of Cruz Bay and the islands in the distance. The staff met us at the ferry dock and escorted us around the town to familiarize us.

The unit was only a five minute walk to Cruz Bay and all the restaurants and shopping. Island folk were friendly and helpful, and glad to have you visit. St. John was uncrowded and most of the island is a national park. The beaches were unbelievable and certainly among the best in the world.

Rent a car and drive around the island while you are there. We highly recommend this as your next vacation site!
