We have been traveling to St. Croix for ten years now, and we think Colony Cove is the the best place to stay.
They have great rooms with two beds, two baths and a full kitchen. Also, it is close to town, diving, and shopping. The beach and pool are great, too.
Just sit back, relax, and go diving! |

After reading the only other review on this web site, I had to respond. I was just in St. Croix in July, 2004 and found that Colony Cove Condos had gone through a complete transformation. The negative review I read was from 2001.
Colony Cove is now under new management and has been completely remodeled. I was so impressed with the units that I bought one! I looked at six different units and they were all in excellent condition.
St. Croix is growing like a weed and has a new boardwalk in Christiansted with great restaurants, shops and hotels. There are expensive homes going up all over the island and even a big new casino on the east end.
I would highly recommend a visit to St. Croix anytime of year. We were here in July and the weather was perfect. My family will come here often. |

When we were handed our key by the night guard, to let ourselves in, because no one was at the desk even at 7 pm, we were totally appalled.
This was not the Internet picture of the kitchen we had seen. The refrigerator was so rusted on the outside it took your appetite away. There were breadcrumbs and dust on top of it 1/8 of an inch thick. One of the toilets wouldn't flush because of black chucks clogged up the supply line (I'm a plumber, so we filled the tank with glasses of water to flush it and didn't use it again). The utensils were old. The picture of the beach through the deck was very old. The first floor deck actually had rusted bars on them for security.
The air-conditioned bedrooms were a joke. Each room had this little window unit—one was in a window, the other in a hole in the wall. The rest of the unit was unbearable; in that climate you need total air. The window coverings were hanging as if the place were vacant, torn in places and only a few hooks were used.
The public housing was so bad that after dark the taxi company would not deliver a late bag we had come in. Thank goodness we were able to get our 3-day deposit back and were able to enjoy the other 8 nights somewhere else.

It's better than a box room any day! Visited: November 1999 |

Watch out for the huge service charge - $300 extra to the bill for ten days.
It was nice to have an actual apartment with a kitchen. As everything shut down early here, we had to be self sufficient.
I am in a hotel right now, a big name one. It costs double, and it is just a room with a bed. So, overall, Colony Cove was a good deal.
It was not a new building, and the pictures might fool you. It resembled an apartment complex in the states with a couple decades on it.
The beach was not too good right behind Colony Cove. However, all the beaches were open access, so all I had to do was walk down a little. The hotels were all connected.
If you need to be on the Internet, bring your own air-card, it was unreliable here. |

First off Colony Cove is older, and has the typical island furniture. It looked a little run down inside but it did have a full kitchen with just about everything you need to cook a meal including coolers to take to the beach. We traveled with our 23 month old and another couple and there was plenty of room for all of us. We requested a crib when we checked in and when we returned that evening it was set up complete with sheets.
We were on the first floor looking out into the gardens which were kept immaculate. The pool was nice. They even had a woman there braiding hair. The beach was awful. It was littered and the water was very nasty on that side.
The hotel did have security at night and we never felt uncomfortable considering it is next to public housing. It is close to Christensted so it was easy to get wherever we were going. Instead of going to Pueblo supermarket, we found a really nice Food Town right down the road.
The staff were always friendly especially the gardner. They left clean towels most everyday. One day we didn't receive them but no big deal.
We did have a problem with these little bugs that looked like ants. They were on the counter tops in the kitchen and the bathroom. We couldn't seem to get rid of them.
I would say for what we paid and the amount of room we had Colony Cove was a good deal.
I think next time I will find a place with a better beach. |
