2.0 stars not what I expected Visited: June 2005

The room was semi-clean, beach was the size of a queen size bed, pool was murky, and the restaurant was closed. It would be better to camp than stay here.

When my wife and I waltzed in the Carib Beach lobby, we were greeted with a beautiful island smile from Charmaine. Then, this gentleman in a three-piece suit offered to take our luggage to our room for us. That was how we met the charming hotel manager, Franz Colange.

During our stay, we often saw him cleaning the beach, greeting the guests in the restaurant and making sure that everyone's stay was a memorable one. He always made time for us. My wife and I were so touched that we made a special trip just to get him a thank you card.

I mentioned that our getaway was almost perfect and that's just because my wife and I got into a little accident. But Franz was always there for us. We did not know people like him existed.
We will definitely come back just to see him again. Thank you!

1.0 stars Something Went Wrong Somewhere Visited: August 2004

I have no idea what hotel the people in this review forum visited, but the BEst Western Carib Beach is a dump. The rooms had mold and mildew beyond belief, there was no service to speak of. No one smiled or offered a greeting. The paint was peeling off the walls, the linens were all filthy and stained. They have no beach, more of a huge man made litter box. The buildings were falling apart, literally. Calling it rundown would be a compliment. If the owners are reading this, tear it down and start all over. The owners or managers had to be the ones leaving reviews for this hotel, because no one in their right mind would think this was a nice, or charming place, unless you came from a condemed housing project in Detroit.

5.0 stars We could not have asked for more! Visited: July 2004

We had never been to St. Thomas before. We did a lot of research before making final plans, but we were also on a budget. After looking at all the options, most of which seemed to be scams, we decided on Caribe Beach Resort for our hotel. It was close to the airport, on a semi-private bay, with great beach access without large crowds...all this was what we were looking for.

The hotel was very comfortable. It could have used some updating, but it was an older property. Some of it may be linked to the overall charm of the place, but we really loved it. The staff was not the friendliest, but the manager, Mr. Walker, was a great help.

However, Kanema, the front desk supervisor, could use a career change as she was very rude and misleading. She sent us on a wild goose chase around the island looking for a restaurant that had been closed for two years. Then, out of the blue, she tried to charge us for someone else's restaurant bill. She then got mad about it when she realized it was her mistake.

I wrote a letter to the manager about her. In my opinion, she does not need to be in the hotel field. She also called several times early in the morning, before 8:00 am, asking if we were checking out when our reservation was for two weeks (and this was on the third day!). She never smiled, and never offered any help when we asked a question. Just "yes" or "no", that was it. Maybe she does not like people. But she was the only "bad" experience about the entire hotel.

Other than that, the hotel was perfect. The rates were low, the service was above average.

We will be going back to this hotel if we get the chance, and if my husband ever gets off the couch. I miss the white powder sand beaches, the wonderful, invigirating sunshine, and the gentle turquoise ocean waves!

I think I will call my travel agent back right now and book us another trip. Just thinking about this makes me want to go back to paradise.

I hope this helps in your decision. This hotel has everything you need for a relaxing vacation at lower costs than everywhere else. Have fun!

5.0 stars This resort has the best value, great service, and is a solid hotel. Visited: January 2004

Not being someone who normally writes gratious hotel reviews, I was very impressed by the Carib Beach Resort in many different aspects.

Most small hotels cannot provide such personal customer service as they do at this hotel. It seems that they know everyone's name, and will do just about anything a guest needs them to do without having to complain about it first.

This hotel is the greatest value for a hotel on the water, and is really in the best location on the entire island. The beach area could be better, but they do have a van that takes guests over to their sister hotel at no charge. There, they have a great beach that is usually sparsely populated.

I am telling everyone I know about this secret jewel in paradise. Congratulations to this hotel for doing a great job in making happy, lifelong customers. We will be back!

5.0 stars We enjoyed an almost flawless vacation. Visited: January 2004

My husband and I have never had a vacation go 100% right. Something has always messed it up. Either the plane did not take off, or the hotel messed up our reservation. So, every year when my husband starts planning our vacation, I cringe. This year, I took control and did the research to plan a great vacation.

We decided on St. Thomas. After much online investigating, I booked our room at the Best Western Carib Beach Resort. It had everything we needed, plus was less expensive than other hotels.

We arrived and fell in love, what a great small hotel. The manager, Mr. Walker, was a perfect host showing us to our room and telling us all about the islands. He made suggestions for everything we inquired about.

Also, the room was near-perfect. Everything was very clean and well placed. Maybe a little painting could have made things perfect, but that was the only thing we found "wrong".

The hotel staff was great, especially for a smaller hotel. Everyone at the front desk was great, they helped with our rental car and ferry arrangements. We could not have been happier.

So, our seemingly flawless vacation was off to a great start. And I am happy to report it stayed that way. The restaurant served some good food too. And we enjoyed great views while dining.

All in all, we would recommend this hotel to the Queen of England, (if she was having money problems anyway). Although small, the hotel had everything we needed. The manager and staff made us feel at home from the start until the end. They did a great job, and we had a great vacation.

4.0 stars This is a wonderful hotel to relax and unwind. Visited: January 2004

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Carib Beach Resort at the first of January of this year, 2004.

We were very surprised at the affordability of the hotel when compared to all the other hotels on the island. We read several very positive reviews online and decided to give it a try.

We arrived and could not help but notice that they were very close to the airport. However, this was never an issue because we heard more airplane noise downtown than we did at the hotel. It was a small island, afterall.

The staff seemed really nice and helpful. The room had a great view, was very clean, and had everything we needed in it. There were several small inperfections, nothing that hindered our stay however.

We really enjoyed "limin" on the beach and around the pool. The hotel was very relaxing. We stayed at a mega resort on St. Thomas three years ago and had hundreds of people everywhere yelling at all hours, and children running nonstop. That was not very relaxing at all, but at Carib Beach we heard nothing but the ocean and our own thoughts.

We normally would not write a review for a hotel, but this hotel deserved to be noticed. We travel all over the world and have stayed at every level of hotel. Carib Beach impressed us more than any other hotel we have ever stayed at, especially for the price.

This hotel is a great value and should be considered for all those looking for a great, quiet vacation.

This is not the hotel if you need 24-hour room service and a jacuzzi tub with pink roses floating in it. What this hotel does do is offer the best value on lodging in the islands.

My girlfriend and I have stayed at several of the larger hotels on St. Thomas over the past five years. All of them were way overpriced in my opinion. The rooms at Carib Beach Resort were about the same overall for a lot less money, a lot was over half the price; which translated into about $150 per night difference.

This hotel did not have five restaurants and a staff to wipe the sweat from your brow as you ate, but they did have ample everything else. The rooms were nice enough, clean and well done. They had pretty much all that would be required to be comfortable - fridge, interent, safe, and ironing. What else do you need?

We were only at the hotel between the hours of 9:00 pm and 7:00am, then we were gone enjoying our vacation. There was so much to do in the islands, the hotel helped us out on so many things.

This hotel was not a luxury spa, mega resort, or even an upscale boutique hotel. It was a simple, well run, and very traveler-friendly hotel. Everything in the islands was twice the price, and I do mean everything. Carib Beach Resort, however, was a bargain. We will be staying here again next year, and hopefully the year after that as well.

5.0 stars We loved Carib Beach Resort. Visited: December 2003

I cannot say enough great things about this small hotel. Everything about it was great.

The rooms were clean, nicely decorated, and very reasonably priced. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The girls at the front desk were great, they helped get our rental car and told us about all the good restaurants.

We will stay at this hotel every time we come to St. Thomas. We used to stay at the Wyndham, which is a pretty nice mega-resort, but we like it quieter and more relaxing. Carib Beach is the best place on the island to relax.

I took a tour of this hotel when I was in St. Thomas an it appeared to be a very nice hotel. The grounds, room, pool, and restaurant were all very nice. Rooms were clean and decorated tastefully. It is located right by the airport in a very safe location. I recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget who wants a nice clean place to stay in St. Thomas.

2.0 stars Clean, but in need of repair Visited: February 2003

We won our trip to ST. Thomas and this was the hotel chosen for us. I would not choose to stay there again. It is economical if you have a tight budget, but then you will be using cabs or a car to get around. Keep in mind, you are near the airport and far from everywhere else. We found renting a car gave us the most freedom. We were in one of the 'cottages' right off the bay. The room was clean, but the bathroom was a disaster. Paint was peeling from the walls, the door was water damaged, and it was so cramped, one person could barely move around in there. Our room was far from spacious. The door to our room, opening to the outside, was not a tight fit, the top let light in, and it banged in the wind. The staff was OK, but mostly showed mild indifference. The bar and restaurant were nice, the pool adequate, but the beach is almost nonexsistent. The sister resort has a nice beach and Brewers' bay, which is very close, is nice. We had a nice balcony where we enjoyed some awesome moonlit nights. If you need a night or two near the airport, go for it, otherwise, spend the extra money for another place.

2.0 stars Budget property, but worth the money. Visited: December 1969

Keeping in mind that this is a Best Western Hotel & very inexpensive (I think we paid $59/night), but it did have some charm and a nice view. It is right next to the airport, so you will have to deal with the air traffic noise, but really, how many planes are arriving & departing all day & night? There is only a very small, rocky, man-made beach, but you can easily walk to other parts of Lindburgh Bay, including the Emerald Beach Hotel which has a very nice beach. The pool was small, but there were never more than 4 people there. The pool bar was nice, the restaraunt was good but nothing to rave about. The staff was courteous, but not over-extending of themselves. Many pilots stay here when their flights require them to be in STT overnight. The room was very spacious, clean and airy. I would recommend this property if you just need a pkace to stay for a night or two, or if you really want to go to STT on a budget!
