This was our second visit to Coconut Coast Villas. Once again, Jon and Nancy were excellent hosts.
I recommend walking into town at night (a short walk of five or six minutes)due to lack of parking. The off-the-beaten-path location gave us plenty of peace and quiet, yet afforded us a close locale to downtown.
Renting a Jeep is a must to explore the island and to be on your own schedule when visiting the beautiful beaches. This is a highly recommended stay. |

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Coconut Coast Villas. It was fabulous! The owners were extremely nice and very helpful, but stayed out of our way unless we asked for help.
The room was like a small studio apartment. It was very clean and stocked with anything we could think of needing for the kitchen and bathroom. The room also provided a book of suggestions for restaurants, beaches, groceries, excursions, etc.
The absolute best thing about this place was being able to fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves. We were right on the beach, although a rocky beach.
To really enjoy your trip, you will need a rental car. It was a bit of a walk to town to have dinner, and you will need transportation to get to the north shore beaches. The north shore beaches were unbelievable. Also, make sure the company you rent a car from lets you park in their lot in the evening. It was very hard to find a parking space in Cruz Bay. |

I have visited St. John with my family over the past ten years and we have always stayed in a large house. This was my first time to stay at Coconut Coast Villas, and we were very impressed by the accommodations and location.
Sleeping to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below was incredible. The unit we stayed in had a great view, and we spent most of our time on the very spacious porch. Everything we needed was provided (including coffee filters!).
We will definitely be staying here again on our next (and hopefully soon) vacation here! |

A convenient, peaceful and small vacation spot. Visited: March 2003 |

My sister and I were on a budget, and St. John was an expensive option for our vacation. We wanted a kitchen, convenience to town, quiet and closeness to the shore. Coconut Coast met all of our expectations.
It was not a resort for people who want to be waited on, who want the white sand beach just outside their door (they had a stone beach).
But this was a great place to stay for those who want to be lulled to sleep by the waves lapping at the shore and the constant breeze (heavenly!) and if you're happy to plan your own activities.
The kitchen was small, but it provided everything I needed to cook breakfast every morning and two dinners (eat on your porch!).
Our studio room was small, but the porch was like an extra room. The bathroom had a very roomy and nice shower with lots of shelves to store things. The beds were a little soft, but very comfortable.
Our hosts were unobstrusive - but extremely helpful. Their friendliness, and the resident Jack Russell, calico cat, and friendly peacocks (not sure who the peacocks belonged to) made us feel at home.
The little pool was exactly that - little, but it provided a sweet, landscaped respite from the beaches if we wanted a break. You can snorkel off-shore at Coconut Cove, but the entry into the water was not for young kids, as there were lots of small black sea urchins.
The kids could splash in the little pool, which also had a gas barbecue for anyone who wanted to use it. The other guests I saw here were all considerate types who respected the peaceful environment.
The only downsides were the ramshackle white shed-like builiding at one end of the shore, where some locals seemed to be repairing a boat motor for two hours every day, and an ugly chain-link fence separating some municipal type building from Coconut Cove's complex at the end of the road. It was easy to avoid looking at these as we looked out past the bay.
A reviewer noted on some other website that there was a disgusting pond behind property. That was not true. The salt pond behind Coconut Cove did have a lot of still water, but the native bird life it attracted were quite beautiful (and those birds ate the bugs!). It was what a Caribbean salt pond would look like, and it never bothered me.
There were a couple of ramshackle houses in the neighborhood, but anyone who's been to the Caribbean understands that it is an expensive place to live (an apple costs more than $1 at the supermarket) and that many locals eke out a living. I always felt safe and secure here. I'd definitely return.
In addition, I suggest renting a car (4WD) to travel around St. John. I don't recommend walking to and from Cruz Bay at night. There were not a lot of sidewalks on St. John.

A great place for the money. Visited: March 2002 |

My wife and I stayed in one of the studio apartments for a week. The place was very comfortable and was an excellent value. The family who manages the place was very cool and gave us lots of helpful tips.
The location was perfect. It was a short walk to downtown during the day via a path that went through the owner's art gallery (a must see!). Our bed was only 20 feet from the shore. We fell asleep to waves, but heard no noise from the downtown.
Walking to town at night was more difficult, requiring a hike up and down a very steep hill. I strongly recommend renting a car, especially if you're going to tour the island and visit the beaches.
The kitchen had everything - microwave, toaster, blender, etc. There was also a nice Weber gas grill in the pool area. After several disappointing $80+ dinners, cooking at the apartment became the preferable place for our meals. They also provided coolers, beach chairs, and other beach accessories for us to use.
My gripes were very minor. The place wasn't exactly soundproof. Luckily, our neighbors were well-behaved and quiet, but I could see where party animals might spoil things.
The stereo mentioned was actually a small radio with a tape player. There was no CD player to play the mandatory Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley and the Gypsy Kings (CDs we brought). |
