Have you visited Magens Point Resort? We'd love to know what you think...
Please write a review with as much detail as possible. Tell us about the amenities, facilities and staff.
My daughter and I stayed here for one week, and other than a reasonable price, it was very shoddy.
The staff (except for Victoria) was not accommodating at all. The view was ugly (with a hole in the ground and a hill out our window).
Also, there were cats everywhere.
The pool was cold, and the hot tub was not working. We did not have TV for three days, and then I fixed it myself. We only had water sometime, and there was no working safe in the room.
In addition, there was no telephone for several days, and then very poor reception.
The restaurant was very good. The store was poorly stocked, and there was no place to have breakfast. The bed was not comfortable - and the couch was even worse. Lunch was delicious at the bar, though.
This place needs an extreme amount of fixing up and some new personnel before I come back - regardless of the price. We were so discouraged, we bought a time share at another resort!

The resort could be great, but this one needs lots of attention.
The hot tub has not worked in two years. The ceilings apparently are never dusted because they have hanging dirt. The main office looks like a old fifties drive-in motel gone bad and left unkept.
Also, the toilets flush with recycled toilet water with bleach in it. It is okay for a few days after they are pumped, but not very nice smelling after five days of people using it. Then they get pumped and you finally get clear water in your toilet.
The resort does have some positives. Two years ago they added a restaurant, and it is one of the top five on the island. It is too bad that they seem to pay so much attention to the restaurant and not to the resort.
Also, the views from the resort are great.
Please note that there are cats all over the place, and they sleep on your doormats. And all guests must pay a $10 per person, per night energy surcharge. That is not included in the billing.
One building burned to the ground the first week of January 2006. And there has been no ground breaking for the new addition, which they have been saying they are under construction for the last three years.

This resort, is more like a run down hotel. They don't have keys for your rooms; you have to use the front desk, and there was no renovating going on the week I was there. There are ants/roaches and cats everywhere. On the positive side, the resturant is awesome!

I worked at this resort until just recently, and I can tell you from an insider's point of view that you can get nicer places here in St. Thomas for the same, or less, money. It's not that the place is a dump or anything, but they are in much need of renovation. In the past few months there have been some renovations, like the lobby, the restaurant (which is absolutely the BEST on the island now that Kirsty and Ryan own it, instead of the resort itself) and some of the rooms. But, the hole in the ground where they have sold thousands and thousands of dollars of timeshare is still just that...a hole in the ground. My job was to make up excuses to our guests for why it isn't done yet and try to get them to spend another $10,000 for a timeshare there. If you do go...DON't buy a timeshare there! You can get better timeshares in St. Thomas, with reputable companies like Marriott or Ritz Carlton, instead of this rinkydink, rundown, mismanaged, slipshod company owned by the Shelby's. They have been at it in this place for almost 20 years, and they STILL haven't got it right.

I work at Magens Point, and I would just like to say that there is a new restaurant at the resort called "INDiGO" ...and it is fan-tas-tic! It's not expensive, either. The most expensive item on the regular menu is $22.50 (bacon-wrapped filet mignon). The new owners of the restaurant, Ryan and Kirsty are doing a phenomenal job. Ryan is the chef (and WHAT a chef!)and Kirsty is the hostess/waitress/bartender/. They are attracting many locals, as well as the guests of the resort. It's so good some guests eat at INDIGO every day they are with us It's that good. Try it on your next trip to St. Thomas, you will be thrilled.

We just returned from a week at Magens Point. We stayed in the Villa Section which had a great view of Magens Bay. Our room was spacious and clean.
The restaurant and bar now has a new owner, and the food was the best we have had in years. We were pleased with the reasonable prices as well.
Thanks to Doug (the new restaurant and bar owner) who seemed to be everywhere at once, as well as Claude, Norma, and chefs Scott and Stones for making our stay fantastic.

Magens Point is a clean and comfortable resort, with friendly staff.
It is also a good value for your holiday dollar. New units are being built, and there are general upgrades in progress.

Poor service, not a first-class resort.Visited: February 2003

In my opinion this resort is only worthwhile because it was relatively inexpensive. Next time we will spend a little more if we can get a little more.
Service (with a few exceptions) was very poor. For example, our room had a safety hazard that they did not fix for two days. Even then, the manager had to fix it since the repairman would not. While it was nice the manager took responsibility to serve the resort?s customers in this instance, the person did so begrudgingly and left trash in the room for us to clean up. Not much respect was paid to guests? preferences. Since we had jet lag, we wanted to sleep in a couple of days. This proved hard to do since on 5 of the 7 days we were there someone (either a maid asking bluntly ?when?, or a maintenance man or woman) knocked on our door at 8 am. I got the general sense that everything is run according to the employees? schedules rather than the guests?.
Amenities and facilities were indicative of lack of attention to detail one felt throughout the place. Just to name a few examples: stained sheets, musty smell in room, cheap mattress, ours had a view of a dairy manufacturing plant, hot tub not working, trash on tennis court, trash on grounds, etc.
Finally, during my stay the clientele was noticeably older; I would not recommend this resort for younger vacationers.

We stayed a week here in the villas and, although the weather was very hot, our room was nice and comfortable with the a/c. The rooms were spacious, and the kitchen was a little small, but very workable. Our service was impeccable. We had to shoo the maid away from the door daily!
The activities were very well planned, Kip and Chris really knew their stuff. They directed us to great places to eat and we got an excellent deal on some jewelry. The little store provided many amenties and Lewis, the storekeep, was a delight.
The party on Friday night was awesome, with live soca and reggae. Being a native to the islands, we definitely plan on returning. The room was beautiful, and we had gorgeous view of the bay.

The service and staff was very friendly.
Magen's Beach was spectacular, although resort tour packages were bit pricy. You could do better outside or on your own. The studio that I got had a nice view, but nothing great. The bed was very uncomfortable and there was no bath tub for soaking your snorkel gear. I wish the resort had a hot tub/spa. Also, the kitchen was tiny. Resort activities were sufficient and fun.
I bought the trip through an internet auction and got a great deal. Overall, the value was great because of the price. My review would be different if I had paid full price.

My husband, two children (ages 5 & 21 months) and I just returned from a week at this resort (timeshare exchange) and had a wonderful time!
We had a one-bedroom unit in the 'Villas' section, which was laid out nicely with the rooms on staggered levels. Although there were other units surrounding us, we were never bothered by noise, and our balcony also felt very private.
Our unit was fairly good-sized, with three steps up from the living room into the bedroom and kitchen areas (not a great setup for toddlers - our daughter did take a couple of spills down the steps).
The kitchen area was smaller than other resorts we've been to, but we still managed to have breakfast and several other meals in our room. There was a little store on the property, and grocery stores were on the island for stocking up (we drove to one outside of Red Hook - about a 20 minute drive).
The resort didn't supply dishwashing liquid or shampoo, but did have a coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer and an iron and ironing board. Bath towels were only changed a couple times during the week, but beach towels were supplied, and could be exchanged at any time. There was also a laundry room, so you can pack light!
The resort offered at least one arranged activity each day, and had a nice pool, hot tub, bar, restaurant and tennis court. There was also a free shuttle service to various points around the island, including Charlotte Amalie, Magen's Bay, Red Hook, and Coki Beach, which we thought was a nice service.
We would definitely love to stay again at this resort!

We stayed at Magens Point/Tropic Leisure Club on a timeshare exchange. Our top floor studio was extremely quiet, and while small, was adequate and comfortable.
It was well equipped - microwave, two-burner cook top, small refrigerator, cooking utensils, dishes, flatware, ice bucket, iron and ironing board, hair dryer and television (which we never once turned on).
There was always plenty of hot water for showers and the water pressure was excellent. All units had air conditioning and a nice lanai with a table and two chairs. Our unit had a wonderful view of Mahogany Run Golf Course and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
The grounds and landscaping were attractive and well-maintained and there were safe-deposit boxes available for guests in the office.
A pool bar and the Tropicalia Restaurant flanked the pool deck, with a gorgeous view of Magens Bay. The restaurant served lunch and dinner. We had one dinner there and it was nothing special - disappointing in fact.
There was an excellent convenience store on the premises. Lewis, the lady who ran it, was a gem. She was very knowledgeable, helpful and just fun to talk to. Almost everything you might want or need was available, plus there was a book exchange in the store, which was a nice touch!
The activities schedule was outstanding - far superior to what was offered at Bluebeards Castle. Be sure to attend the orientation on Sunday morning.
There were lots of things to do - day trips, boat excursions, etc. - all arranged by Greg or Chris. There was a get-acquainted rum punch party, mid-week picnic at Magens Beach, snorkel instructions and a snorkel trip to Coki Beach and Coral World. In fact, they had many activities from which to choose most days. You can be as active or laid-back as you wish. Some guests spent most of the week just lounging around the pool.
The island sightseeing and snorkel trip on Sunday was very pleasant; the walking tour of downtown Charlotte Amalie on Monday was well attended and really worthwhile; and the powerboat trip to the British Virgin Islands was great fun.
Also, there were on-site lighted tennis courts for guests and island residents, and lessons were available for a fee.
Be sure to visit Udder Delight, at St. Thomas Dairy, just around the corner from Tropic Leisure Club. Their milk shakes were absolutely delicious - regular, or made with various combinations of liqueurs.
This was our first visit to Magens Point/Tropic Leisure Club, and we plan to go there again. Next time we'll try to stay in the Villas. However, if the Villas were all booked, we would definitely go for a studio again.

Magens Point Resort is getting better every year. The service, other than the resort itself, is very laid back. I think this is why I like it so much, I'm not in any hurry when I'm here. They have an activity director that has something going on all week for you to do if you like.
Our room was always clean and comfortable. I know that there is or was a water problem and they are working on correcting it as fast as they can.
The location at the resort is perfect for my wife and I because she love's the view of the ocean and being close to the pool and I love the golf course being 5 minutes away.
I hope they keep up the good job so that in my next review I can give them 5 star's.

We just returned from a week spent at Magen's Point Tropic Leisure Club. Although this is a timeshare, we do not own here. Bought the package off an internet auction. The room was clean and comfortable, although nothing spectacular. Lost electricity a couple of times...and the explanation was that the breakers blow when you use the microwave and toaster at the same time. Also water pressure not too good and sometimes no hot water.
Like I said, we got an excellent deal, however, if I had been paying the regular rate, I would have complained more. Probably would not return....I like to be on the beach or closer with better views.
